Hello Fellas
I have been using Samsung Galaxy j7 Pro (SM-J730F) for a while. I have used some Android devices before, mostly Samsung. I have been always categorising the apps in diffrerent folders like apps, social media, photo edits etc. Likewise, I categorised my apps on my new J7 Pro. Everything was ok. But when i restarted my device, the app folders had totally disappered. After that, I made folders over and over again. But when i restart my smartphone the folders totally disappear. By the way, I have to state that there were a long time between the folder creation and restarting.
There is no other problems on my device. There aren't any hardware or software problems. There isn't any slow down or etc. All the software and application updates are done.
I don't like using my smartphone like that. This situation makes the device very unuseful for me. The personelised or alphabetical order is not acceptible for me.
I am asking for help. Why is this happening and how can i solve this weird problem?

I'm curious if the Android OS works like Windows Mobile does. With windows mobile, un-installing a poorly written app (or poorly written uninstaller) can sometimes break the OS from function correctly (thereby making a hard reset the only fix). Sometimes un-installed apps from WinMobile will leave behind files and registry settings. Sometimes these un-installations can cause problems in the future when new apps are installed.
That said, does Android work the same? If I install 10 apps and remove all 10 apps will everything be like it was when I first got my phone? Or will some traces of that app be left behind (potentially causing more problems in the future)?
It took me years to finally settle on the Windows Mobile apps I could depend on and enjoyed using. The biggest problem with WinMobile (for me), was that installing a few "new" apps that I haven't used before often lead to problems forcing me to hard reset, re-configure, and re-install all the good apps I relied on. I'm hoping Google did this right making sure that when apps are removed they are completely removed from the device with no traces left behind. As long as they do it this way, there should be almost no reason to every hard reset the phone and also no reason not to try every app that looks even remotely interesting.
So... does anyone know?
I have had the phone for a week now and have installed and unistalled many apps from the android market and other sites. So far I haven't notice the programs leaving anthing behind. What is nice is if a program is acting up you can force close it with out crashing the whole phone. Its probably to early to say exactly though.
As far as I know if it doesn't request outside access to the filesystem all the writes are done within a simple archive, which is deleted upon uninstall. So no, should be no trace.
I did notice it leaves things on the memory card thou.
Hello. Yesterday I got my Galaxy. It downloaded apps I didn't want and never intended on downloading, all sorts of game trials etc'. Moreover, when I woke up and turned on the display, the device started downloading tons of updates for many apps, many weren't wanted in the first place. This made my device sluggish and unresponsive for about 20 minutes.
Why is this happening, and how do I stop it? Also, is there an App that makes it easier to delete stuff from the device?
Thanks.

Check your settings for the Play store to see if auto-updating is enabled, if so you can disable this and pick out what you want to update yourself. Some apps can also be disabled in the phone settings, under 'Applications'.
There is quite a bit of samsung bloatware installed, depending on your point of view, some are more useful than others. Below is a thread giving details of whats installed and what can be removed. You can do this manually with a root file explorer or there are scripts/mods to do this by flashable zip. Or if you check out the custom ROMs, many have been de-bloated.

Hello Good People of XDA
I have been a i9506 owner for quite long, had a 9100 before,
I am used to root and mess with apps to customize things to my wim,
at the best of my knowledge (I lack android programming skills, but I can do things with terminal and filesystems).
All that before to say I am not totally a noob, but my lack of technical knowledge might bite me there.
System wise, I am under 4.2.2, rooted, unknow sources are not allowed, system check for apps is allowed,
I have an antivirus (more than one, but only one works each day, just to be sure I don't miss things)...
My problem is that I recently found out that some apps, actually system apps, blocked
with Titanium backup, or with gemini app manager, or app quarantine,
were actually running anyway.
They are marked as blocked in my app manager, but can still be force closed,
and they appear in battery displays (most of these under the android system block, in the list of services/apps used),
and in process running when using Ccleaner apps.
Also, my battery display show GPS is activated, while when I go into options, all boxes are off or unticked.
I thus wonder what's happening?
How is it possible to have these schrödinger apps tamed and blocked like I want them.
I want these to shut down and only work when I DO ALLOW these, for them not to suck my battery or do unauthorized chores like tracking me when I don't want.
How is it possible that they even behave like that? In i9100, I never observed that in Android 4.0.
I wonder if Google didn't change the workings for making us unable to disactivate what we don't want to work, which was pissing them off.
They already change the permissions displays in the market so permissions as intrusive as "contacts/sms message/USB stockage" are considered "not relevant/important",
while they are depending on the announced display of the app.
But I don't want to go on the "conspiracy route" (I am not like that, I am a pragmatist and I just observe facts, like these apps, with sensitive access, not being able to be deactivated), so let's focus on the technical part:
such apps were Maps, Samsung sync adapters, NFC service , Google Agenda/Contact synchronisation, sysscope, context provider, etc.
That's a lots of things that are supposed to communicate to cloud or other devices, with feels lot like a gaping flaw in the armor...
I want a phone and a tool, not something that track me or put me at risk of being stolen by somebody with technical knowledge.
Am I alone?
Thanks for any insights.
Blocked apps still working
I don't know if my title was too unclear, so I would like to change the title but am unable to do so?
Is it please possible for a moderator to do it (with the title of this post)?
Thanks by advance.
I feel like it is a true problem not being able to block some apps,
or even more, to believe they are blocked while they perfectly perform in the background,
and display activity only in secondary reports, not under their respective "buttons"/information tabs.
I wonder abourt the technical reason to such behavior.
Then delete those apps or block some of the permissions with an app (eg Privacyguard).
It's my opinion that an antivirus app (at the moment) is a waste of resources. Just think before you install something. Also if you are worried about security, you should always run the latest version of Android. 4.2.2 is an old version.

Thanks for your answer.
Well I don't want to delete system app when they might be useful at time.
I just want them to behave correctly, that is, not work when they are blocked.
That is not a solution to say "uninstall this", while the true problem is Android general behavior here.
I didn't installed system apps, they came with the thing, and all of them are not bloatware.
"NFC service" is something I want to keep for when I am ready to use it,
but I don't want to let it free and unleashed because of the opening it leaves on my phone.
Same goes for bluetooth, synced backups and so on.
I don't want backups on the cloud, so I deactivated the options, and blocked the apps.
Why are they running? It is not normal!
And my old version is maybe not secure, but actually trying 4.3 hasn't changed anything,
and I only suspect this to be some "new feature".
The antivirus is a waste for scans, I agree, still it has useful firewall features that justifies in itself its uses.
Hey all, somebody please help me before I go totally nuts. Is it only me, or everybody is experiencing this problem and just getting over it? Anybody who has used android should be familiar with this... You tap an image file, android asks you to chose an app to open with, you chose an app, happily press always, and 2 minutes later the same process again! This seems to concern image, audio, video, txt, and whatever other file! 3 extra taps whatever file format you wanna open, googled it, people where asking about this as far back as 2011!! And still, no solution looms in the horizon! Can't beleive Google hasn't realized this for so long... This problem has existed on all my devices, Samsung S2, S3, Note 3,Tab S2... Plz don't start saying go to apps, and clear defaults, coz' that only works in theory but not in practice... Android versions involved were ICS, JELLYBEAN, KITKAT AND NOW LOLLIPOP... Tried with all 3rd party file managers on the play store... No success...
Any workaround?
Never had that problem since S1 and Froyo .
Just tested on Note 3 music file open with power amp ALWAYS reboot and it opens in power amp .
Likewise with a picture open with Always = same result .
Me too never had that problem.
After making defaults for apps, after some minutes go to defaults and check that is that app is selected as default? If it is there and still it says again ask to choose defaults then its firmware issue. And if its not there then you may have some cleaning app installed, which clear defaults after some time.
sorry for bad english.
I use greenify, but AFAIK that shouldn't cause a problem of this sort...
For example, why should an eBook reader constantly attemp to open an image file?!
Obviously, this does not occur when I freeze all but one factory or 3rd party app which do the same, but I can't uninstall an eBook reader because it attempts to open image files
Hey guys
I tried to 'clone' my Galaxy S7 edge to a Galaxy S7, the on board copy tool after startup did only copy a few, I miss basic things (wallpaper settings, app logins and more)
What is the best way to copy all the data from one Android to another?
Thanks for your help
Oli
Try Smart Switch. I used it to restore everything from my s5 into my s7 edge. The only way I could get it to work right was to create the backup into my sdcard on my s5 and then put it into my s7 edge to restore with Smart Switch. You won't be able to restore 3rd party app data with it though. That means app logins will not be backed up. Everything Google and samsung related will restore just fine.

+1 for Smart Switch but it is not a full "clone" program. You need to transfer 3rd party app data such as games, whatsapp history etc manually.

The main question here is why would you go from S7 Edge to S7?
Probably for the smaller screen. S7 Edge seems just to big for some people.
Officially Smart Switch.
If your Rooted and SD Card, Titanium backup.
You can backup, Account, Messages, Wallpaper, Settings, Ringtones, Applications, Applications saved Data.
You name it, this can back it up, Install it on both Devices, Backup the S7 Edge to SD Card
Take out the SD Card, Put it in your S7.
Search for the Backup folder in Titanium settings, and restore.
If you are not rooted there is similar apps to titanium that i work without root method.
This will at least allow some additional data and applications to be copied over that would otherwise be ignored
To answer the most important question first : Yes, smaller screen and I dont like the edge hardware design, I constantly touch the screen..
Thanks for your ideas! But that sounds a bit unpleasant compared to what I am used from iOS.. There is no possibility to move all the data from one phone to another..? I mean, properly
The Apps are not the most important things, I would have liked to have the same App's on my screen again, same Mail accounts, settings..

There are applications on the store that will get everything you want.
most apps take Priorty information, Contacts, messages Images etc etc
Titanium backup will do EVERYTHING you possibility want.
You only get the full features if Rooted.
If you are not, there are applications like MyBackup pro i used to use before Rooting.
I know there has been many other applications over the year that have done this.
But as others have stated, what happened with Smart Switch, Samsung App should do all this.
I can backup my entire device
(System Apps, User Apps)
Wallpapers, Ringtones, Accounts Added, Messages Rules ,Blocked numbers.
All your settings
This app does more than what you are able to do to transferring content between Iphone to iphone.
Its not that complicated neither, i can backup my entire system in 5 minutes.
Happy to help or guide you through it if you want.
Thanks Dave, would you try Smart Switch or MyBackup pro first? I'll try this that weekend in that case
I am not rooted yet, but I want to since I always had jailbroken my iOS devices.. But I decided to do one by one

Try Smart Switch first
(This is Samsung Official Application, They Prided them-self in this release, its a all in one suit to move your content from one device to another - Specific for the job you want)
If Smart Switch Fails, Try MyBackup Pro:

Pro version is paid for.
