Hey all, somebody please help me before I go totally nuts. Is it only me, or everybody is experiencing this problem and just getting over it? Anybody who has used android should be familiar with this... You tap an image file, android asks you to chose an app to open with, you chose an app, happily press always, and 2 minutes later the same process again! This seems to concern image, audio, video, txt, and whatever other file! 3 extra taps whatever file format you wanna open, googled it, people where asking about this as far back as 2011!! And still, no solution looms in the horizon! Can't beleive Google hasn't realized this for so long... This problem has existed on all my devices, Samsung S2, S3, Note 3,Tab S2... Plz don't start saying go to apps, and clear defaults, coz' that only works in theory but not in practice... Android versions involved were ICS, JELLYBEAN, KITKAT AND NOW LOLLIPOP... Tried with all 3rd party file managers on the play store... No success...
Any workaround?
Never had that problem since S1 and Froyo .
Just tested on Note 3 music file open with power amp ALWAYS reboot and it opens in power amp .
Likewise with a picture open with Always = same result .
Me too never had that problem.
After making defaults for apps, after some minutes go to defaults and check that is that app is selected as default? If it is there and still it says again ask to choose defaults then its firmware issue. And if its not there then you may have some cleaning app installed, which clear defaults after some time.
sorry for bad english.
I use greenify, but AFAIK that shouldn't cause a problem of this sort...
For example, why should an eBook reader constantly attemp to open an image file?!
Obviously, this does not occur when I freeze all but one factory or 3rd party app which do the same, but I can't uninstall an eBook reader because it attempts to open image files

I have a problem with the Acer "apps" on my a500.
when I launch the eReading, Games, Social and Multimedia shortcuts I get a force close on the process "ApinAp (process android com.acer.app)" I have tried to clear data in "ApinAp" but it did not help... it worked when I bought my A500 a week ago.
but I don't know when it stopped working.
if anyone have a solution or a good idea to try please don't hesitate to answer ;-)
Reset it. There's probably a bad app having it's way with your tablet and causing the instability. If it continues to happen on stock, send it back.
Start installing your apps back one by one with time in between to test. Eventually you'll be able to track down the one app you shouldn't be using.
I have the same problem. After rooting, I restored *a lot* of the backups from my 2.2 phone. I uninstalled some because they didn't play nice with honeycomb, but I still haven't been able to find the culprit. Also, restoring the backup from their original, pristine condition did not help. I would really appreciate it if anyone knows which app(s) is/are responsible for this.

Ideally, you should post all the apps you've installed so anyone coming across this thread can scan what you have and have the chance to see an app that is knowingly bad.
You should always restore to a factory state to make sure it *is* a bad app though. That's the only way to verify if it's Honeycomb or a tablet hardware issue as being the cause rather than a rogue application.
Also, don't install *questionable* apps from *shady* sources. Eventually, this kind of thing will happen.
Well, I have installed lots of free apps, so it would take a while to post them all here. I have removed a few but it didn't help. It could be anything, of course, but I suspect it must be one that has root access. When I tried freezing a few likely culprits, it didn't change anything though.
Do you by any chance use morelocale 2?
I had some force closes and it was because my tablet was using a language that it didn't like (together with my Contacts) so I had to change some settings (use different locale or delete any custom characters from my contact list) and it worked.
I have the same problem. I restored apps from the android market because I couldn't figure out how to make market enabler work in the beginning. Ever since all the native apps are force-closing.

I have removed morelocale2 and the problem persists. However, Even after removing it, the added localisations seem to persist (for example, market is still translated to greek). Does anybody know of a method to completely remove its effects?
Removing locale won't disable it's effects. You can set it and them remove it and the settings will remain as you've set it.
You should reinstall it and then set it back to default settings and see if that helps you problem. My problem was an unsupported language that I've set in it and that caused crashes.
I redownloaded it and reset the settings to English (US). When I did that, the apinap force close message reappeared, so there must be some connection. Then, to make sure, I rebooted and tried the apps. Even though the new/old localisation was working as expected, the acer apps still force close, giving the same error as before.
Odd. Did you enter the info (in morelocale) manually or did you use the two selection buttons and pick the language from there?
I just picked it from the selection list.
Then it's not the same as my problem. But I still suspect that it has something to do with locale.
Do you have any custom characters under your contacts. Because that can cause problems (I've stumbled upon it when I was looking if anyone is experiencing the same crashes as I was).
If you do have them (any greek lethers and such) then try disabling google sync and wiping contacts and see if that helps. If it does than it's your contacts (some people reported that some unsupported characters and multiple notes could cause crashes on tablets).
If it still crashes then just enable sync again and restore the contacts.
I don't know what else you could do if you still experience crashes after that except a hard reset to check if that helps.
Thanks mate, I tried this too. In fact, I also removed everything with any Greek character at all. No luck at all, so I will give it a rest. I will just keep the apps in case they are needed for the 3.1 update.
I never used titanium backup, but if anyone is restoring a full backup set from this application and any honeycomb only settings gets deleted or written over by 2.2 information, you will probably have a crash..
just like flash 10.3 has 2 different libraries loaded, one for 2.2 and one for 3.0 , but only installed one of them, your device with flash will FC, when flash suddenly uses 2.2 libraries.. so not all backups and apps can be easily restored..
you will need to test the apps backed up, and avoid restoring any system settings.
I am on the March 5th build of ICS from Quarx, and have only experienced this issue on this ROM, however I have not tried going to another version to see if it's something I viewed/downloaded.
Every once in awhile I get a notification, it looks exactly like a smaller version of the Messaging app's icon. The title says something like "Faster, Better" etc. and once I click on it there is an image of an ad for UC Browser 8. It only happens when I have internet, but all I can do is swipe the notification and wait for it to happen again.
There is a folder in the root of my SD card called Joy. Inside are three more folders: Cache, PopAd, and config. Nothing in Cache, PopAd includes the ADucweb_en.jpg image that pops up. In config there is dk.pro, popAd.config, running.config, and sys.config.
When I delete the folder, it reappears once the ad pops up- which seems to coincide with why I always need internet when the ad pops up.
Any advice on how to handle this? It's annoying and could be simply malware (AVG finds nothing wrong) but it seems to be a total breach of privacy and security that a folder is able to redownload itself continuously against the user's wishes. I'm unaware if this has anything to do with the person/people behind UC Browser 8, but I feel I need to contact them as well for malicious advertising by someone.
I had these same notifications happening, and found those files too. After installing "Addons Detector" I found that these were coming from an app I'd recently installed called "Mission Impossible FREE" (com.letang.game109.en).
I wonder if there's a better way to identify the app that creates a notification. Nearly anonymous notifications seem like an easy spam vector. It'd be nice if a long press on a notification message gave identifying details about it's origin.

problem solved
same problem here. thx to another member, i now know how to remove it permanently. when the ad pops up, take note of the game/app that it's advertising. go to market and find its developer. then check and see if you have any of their app/game installed in your phone. just uninstall them and you'll be able to delete the joy folder permanently. and the ad will never pop up again.
the developer that's making these ads in my phone is call LeTang, Inc. i think it's the same for you.
STABILITY ISSUES & CAR MODE FAULT --HELP PLEASE!!
Guys I need some help please.
The phone is great but over the past 2 months I have noticed occasional stability issues like programs suddenly opening up when you turn on screen that haven't been selected etc.etc
There is a list of 9 common faults published including some where, for eg OK google was working fine but suddenly doesnt etc.
This week in CAR MODE I noticed this unexpected error that restarting, clearing app cache, clearing app data etc will NOT fix.
Everything was working OK and I changed nothing that could have caused this.
when selecting Nav from carmode home screen it asks you "where do u want to go?", as per normal.
When I open the search text box to enter the address where I want to go, instead of verbally telling it, it accepts text characters for about 3-4 sec then suddenly just goes straight back to the carmode home screen before you finish typing the info and then hitting search!! Every time.
This is extremely annoying as it is the only accurate way to give it an address as it often miss hears the verbal names.
I cannot find anywhere a way of downloading and reinstalling carmode version 1.2.44.16607 so it can reload whatever blasted line of code is suddenly corrupted and causing the problem. if it was a separate app I could just uninstall and reinstall it but it is part of the OS and even in Galaxy apps I cannot find the specific Samsung app.
I DO NOT want to do a factory reset and wipe my phone!!, that is a BS solution just as it is on a PC for trying to fix a minor windows error.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY POSSIBLE SUGGESTIONS PLEASE???
So a week ago my galaxy s7 edge from ATT thats now on straight talk was hacked somehow very badly and not even 2 hours later so was my whole home network which was my desktop my laptop and my sons tablet. I have all the things i need to rid whatever vile thing/person/persons that infected me home network wise but my phone is a different story i was told by a local phone shop i could factory reset it using recovery and it would prolly fix the problem but as soon as i went into recovery and seen the little android guy i instantly got booted out of recovery and went right to my lock screen and quicker then id ever gotten to it so i restarted my phone again in recovery mode and instead of seeing the normal android recovery stuff i was greeted with about 4-5 swirling circles for about 2 mins then it took me straight to a blue screen that said odin and it immediately started to download something i had to hold the power and home button down for like a good 45 secs before it finally powered off. When i turned it back on it thankfully went back to my phone but i no longer had control of anything my radio band had been switched i couldnt access any of my folders like gallery, music, videos etc. for like a good 30 mins and i was denied access to google play store and i couldn't make or receive a phone call or a text for like 30 mins then my phone restarted itself 2 times on its own and when it came back on after the 2nd restart i could access my files and google play but the only browser i could use was Chrome. Dolphin which i have set as my default and have used for almost 2 years now without a single issue and the stock Samsung browser would force close on me soon as i opened them and alot it was in chinese like home icon and tab icon etc. and i had like triple the apps running in running services then normal and alot of the normal android system apps you would see running had a 2 at the end of the app name now and i couldn't do anything with them as far as force stopping them or disabling them and not just system apps either but normal ones too like my camera or memo app and the ones i could disable which was very few came right back undisabled and running as soon as i did it. I downloaded 3 different apps just to be thorough to see if i was rooted and all 3 said i wasn't but yet i could go into my files app and go all the way in my recovery file system and see my /sys/ priv-apps folders and others too im pretty sure a non rooted phone would never have access too and i also seen a directory named fake libs and a directory that had a bunch of apps for listening through the mic and turning the front and back cameras on and live broadcasting apps and an app for logging of every keystroke i made and lots of crazy txt files one of the txt files said downloaded mobicore hidden apps and the list of apps looks like they downloaded a whole repositories worth of stuff i was told by another local phone place that the first ones i talked to were idiots and even a full factory reset wouldnt fix anything and id need to flash it or have it flashed if i didn't know how which costed 90 bucks that i didn't and still do not have so i transferred everything i had access to and wasn't denied from to my sd card and did a full factory reset which actually fixed my radio band problem i can now make and get phone calls but still cant text and or receive them even thought straight talk has fixed it on their end like 4 times now so today i decided id try and learn to flash and flash it but was told if it was rooted and i did it a certain way id screw the phone up completely and if it wasn't rooted and i did it a certain way the same results would happen. I actually downloaded win rar and went back into the recovery system directory and the sys/priv-apps/ section and /fake-libs/ section and took like 16-17 screenshots of like only a 10th of all the crazy stuff apk wise and txt document wise that was in there id seen and rar'd it up so i could email it and post them along with this post but every email address i tried to send it to immediately sent me an error email response back saying it didn't exist or the person was not allowed to recieve emails even my own email account that i was sending it from because i thought id send it to myself and download it off my computer but soon as i sent it to myself i got the email doesn't exist error email i also tried sending it to a friend in FB messenger but messenger would force close on me every time id click on it to send it and at the moment i can still access my FB messenger but now can no longer send a message it sends out but never changes from the greyed out check mark so the person on the other end isn't receiving it i also tried calling people this evening but every call i made went straight to busy signal oh also the screenshots are still sitting there in my screenshots folder and i can access them and click on them etc. but im now denied access to win rar i go to click on it and it says access denied and google play says the same thing once again so i cant download another archiving apk and the RAR archive i made to begin with that was in my screenshots folder is gone now just disappeared like that and if i plug my phone into anything to try transfer them that way it says that my s7 edge is not equipped for data transfer but i can unplug it plug it back in and try to transfer a normal picture or an mp3 song or something like that and it will transfer just fine after about a 10-15 second hang/wait time. All i know is i want my phone back from these A-holes and i am willing to flash it just downloaded the newest odin and got the stock ATT android 7.0 rom but im at a loss after that as i do not understand the whole if its rooted do/don't do this or if its not rooted do/don't do that stuff plus seeing as how 3 different apps off google play have said it isn't rooted but yet i have been as far as the folders right before my boot sector and can see hidden system apps and a crap ton of /0/ folders and stuff and somehow have odin for a recovery even though the first time ive ever even been into recovery mode in the almost 2 years i have owned it was when i tried to factory recover it the first time a few days ago and if they have control of my phone like this and i do need to root it how would i even accomplish it without them stopping me?????? Please help me i'm tired of not having control over my phone and being listened too watched and logged by whoever if they might just actually be doing it since i seen the apks and such with my own eyes so anyone that may have any info advice tips or can help me in any way please please please do!!!!
Fake-Libs
I couldn't get Google Playstore to download pro key to an app just sat there at 100%. Went online stupidly and downloaded from some site. Lots of apps like you said. Muy Norton security doesn't show under device admin there was a blank listing with device admin set! ****ed up but trying to delete all without reinstalling entire phone!!! Just did that!!!!

Hello Community,
I think my Samsung S8 is hacked, well it has been some time crazy.
My 4 connection sensor for LTE, 3G, 2G and so on, plays around. It is this little thing on the upper right of the screen. It stopped one day..
Seems a bit crazy, but the police isn't answering a application.
My Instagram changed too I can't see the List anymore which other people liked.
I think someone wanted to troll me first, but then sent me to the police or smth. **** happened.
I need someone to tell me if the process list is right, or if there is something that shouldn't be seen there.
For example: com.samsung.faceservice. , Face , out of nowhere came the "transfer data to other phones" , the phone is in German, one process is new: "settings suggestions"
Some process can't be stopped, so I writed a really really long text to the "hackers" . And then I just deleted the process and it worked...
I'm thinking a lot.
Can You help me?

The best bet is if your bootloader is still locked. No root. Then if something is on your phone a simple factory reset will wipe it. Unless a phone is rooted nothing can be installed at the system level. I would start there. You may have some form of spyware or something installed. Check in application manager at the bottom of list for any apps the may not be named. As in space at the bottom but no details. I have i installed apps before that apear not to show in apps list but they are there

there is a video from Marques Brownlee where he discusses some ways that apps have been allowed to get thru the play store that do exactly what you mention. Apps getting installed and the icon disappearing or changing its opacity to 0. This is more-so for the OP, but several of those apps download more parts to the app that then act as spyware. But the mad scientist is correct, if youre not rooted, no system apps can be installed. Go to your apps list and look for stuff that doesnt seem normal and uninstall it. Android wont let you uninstall system apps when youre not rooted, so thats not a worry. Even if you do uninstall system apps, all you need to do is reflash the firmware with the "HOME_CSC" so it doesnt remove anything, instead just overwriting the system stuff. Basically its a mulligan, which you can do over and over and over. So there isnt really much fear of hard bricking these phones. Soft bricks happen frequently, but theyre mostly just a time waster.

I've had apps described as such before. Most people don't or wouldn't even notice them. I've seen posts before and very similar applied
