I know this issue has been there since a long time now, but asking if there is still a fix for this. When we focus on a ny object ( bright ) the camera works fast and smooth but normally when there is nothing to focus on, it lags a bit. Not only with snapchat but also with whatsapp and Instagram.
I know this is old as hell but I'm experiencing the same issue on my Motorola Edge 30 Ultra and it makes Snapchat/Instagram basically unusable at night.

Hi there.
My problem is this. When you restart my phone works with about 1400mb free RAM. A few days ago I had to do in a short time many photos 20-25 in HDR mode. After 20 picture the camera kick me out, and when I looked at how much RAM I have, I found that I had free only 150mb. I noticed that when taking pictures of RAM consumption increases progressively with each shot, not once. Another thing I noticed that this consumption occurs only when taking pictures in HDR mode. When off HDR shooting mode there is no problem. Separately in the Running Apps nowhere figuring out what is currently using as much memory. When I reboot the phone everything falls into place, but every 20 photos i restart it, and I do not think that is normal. I would like to use HDR. My friends with* Nexus 4 have the same problem, which means that the problem is not in my phone. Can any of you to try and convince you. Before the update I had no problem with the camera and I hope you do not have to go back to the old camera. My question is there a way to fix the problem. Thanks and sorry for my English.
Unfortunately, Your friend and you arent the only one. I have the same problem with pictures in HDR and I am also on a nexus 4... :/
Same problem here. Also in photoshere, after 8-10 photos photosphere kicks me out. havnt still found fix to this issue..
After I took 20+ photos in HDR, free RAM was only 261 MB, and N4 was totaly slow. There sure are problems with google camera.
this is an ongoing issue since sometime now with no fix in sight.
My N4 restarts automatically after taking few shots. the same happens at times in other applications as well. so I don't think it's Camera application itself, but camera drivers or something which is creating the problem.
Yes the infamous camera reboot was supposedly solved in 4.4.3 but it appears that many are still having the issue. It is camera driver related and affects all applications that utilize any of the devices cameras.

ok i don't wont to bore you with details but heres list of stuff that (almost)suddenly happened to my nexus 4 !
1.MX Player lags a little and many videos won't work with H/W anymore ! make weird noise or quit instantly !
2.my phone sometimes gets so hot on full brightness , it didn't use too!
3.my phone lags ! it used to be buttery smooth
4.camera stops working on all of apps and requires rebooting ! (sometimes phone reboots on instagram) my camera also makes weird click noise ! mostly when i open camera ! (my ears are also sensitive to sound but i never heard it before !)
5.my volume down sometimes doesn't work !
6. Google chrome weird graphic glitches ! mostly when showing all tabs !
7. i don't know if its still like that but when i wasn't home google chrome made horrible weird lag when scrolling !
8. i guess battery life is a little bit shorter !
9.when i connected a low amp charger to my phone it suddenly got super-slow so i disconnected it instantly, its not lagging anymore (i mean the lag that it took my phone 5 seconds to react to my touch ! the lag i mentioned before is not that huge!)
also i see shade of chrome bar and some other stuff
i took screenshot and there's no shade on screenshot
Bump ;( i don't want to sell it like that to someone!
Re: Phone behaving weird !
What Android OS are you using that is causing all these problems? Did you do anything new to your Nexus before these problems happened?
Running Pure Nexus Project as my first custom rom from factory firmware. Wiped everything except internal storage as instructed. Camera has no issue taking pictures but this is the first time I've used the video cam. After about 10 minutes of taking videos, I could feel the phone heating up the top portion and it has a thin spigen case and I could still feel the heat through the case. After that screen just shuts off and recording stopped. This happens twice in succession as I thought I just press stopped accidentally the first time around. Does anybody have similar experience when taking videos? Could it be an issue with the custom rom or this is an issue with the phone's processor just like the first revision? Any suggestion/input from members who had the same experience is very much appreciated.
I was recording a video in 4K that was about 8 minutes long and the phone stopped recording but it never shut off. It just stopped at like 8:02 with a resulting video of about 2.4GB. I thought at first it might have run out of space (this was near the end of my vacation), but I had space. I don't recall the phone heating up at all. I was able to keep taking photos after that but didn't try more video.
That was the only time it ever stopped on me by itself, though.
Alright, so I've been using my S7 edge (SM-G935F) for around 930 hours so far without restarting and installing the new update that came out a few days back.
Since I didn't restart my phone quite a long time I experienced that it's not that smooth as it is normally. For example the gallery when opening an album isn't smooth with loading and sorting the pictures, it's more like 4 frames that build up the photo overview.
In addition I noticed that the battery is draining a bit more.
Does somebody experienced it as well?
And is there any "fix" to solve the laggy gallery for example?

This is a known problem, thats why samsung has provided a setting where you can turn on auto restart. It's located at backup & reset:

Lol,are you kidding? What do you think the "fix" would be? Restart your phone...
Hey I just got my Z4. Upgraded from a Z2 Play. I bought direct from Motorola off their website. I'm having really strange 2D performance issues, and was wondering if anyone else is having similar issues because they seem outright stupid for a phone as beefy as this one is to be doing this.
OK, so, this is going to sound super vague because I did try to nail it down with a ctrace, but wasn't able to come up with anything conclusive.
Sometimes, when drawing 2D only, my phone will drop to 30fps or lower. This happens in both in the launcher/normal apps and games (Fire Emblem Heroes)
However, when the phone is drawing in 3D (Dragalia Lost) the phone never drops below 60fps, ever, for any reason.
I have tried the developer option to force 2D Drawing on the GPU. This does not change the behavior at all.
This happens regardless of what MotoMod I have attached (None, Car Dock, Projector, 360 Camera)
This seems really weird to me. The phone isn't getting hot. It happens both plugged in and unplugged. Fresh reboots and not. What's interesting about this is it's exactly the opposite of my Z2 Play, which Dragalia F***ing hated (It would run fine for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, and then it would crash) but FEH would run fine on, and never ever have issues, ever, even if the phone hadn't been rebooted in like, 3 months. And the Z2 Play is just generally a weaker, crappier device in every way (Except Ram, I had the 64gb/4gb model of the Z2 Play) than the Z4, I kind of "expect" the Z4 to just do everything the Z2 did but better.
I'm not a particularly heavy user (I upgraded from my Z2 Play because the battery was expanding, not because it was insufficient) and both of the games mentioned are the only things I do on my phone that could be considered to "Push" the phone in any way (Push in quotes because Dragalia and FEH are both REALLY light games.)
Has anyone else noticed any strangeness like this?
I have the same issue, and yes, it's really hard to describe and difficult to determine what causes it.
What it actually looks like to me is that the digitizer randomly goes into a powersaving mode and samples input at a lower frequency. When scrolling through any app, if you hold your finger down, it'll make it look like it's running at 30fps or less. But if you fling a page that can scroll, for the most part the scrolling animation will be full 60fps.
I know for certain that if you reboot the phone, you're more likely to trigger it soon after boot. But, if you suffer through the agonizing experience, the phone will eventually fix itself for the next week or so before it happens again.
Here's the weird part, not everyone is affected by the weird performance. My theory is most people can't detect it or don't care, or there's a particular app that is prompting the digitizer to behave badly. No idea what it is though.

It's definitely not the digitizer though! I have some data! Fire Emblem Heroes has an autobattle mode, This is as likely to happen during an autobattle when I am providing no input (Phone sitting on desk/just watching while holding) as it is when I'm scrolling through my list of apps.
Same problem here, pretty sluggish experience compared to my girlfriend's G7 Plus.
I've noticed that since the latest update, this issue has gone away for me. Anyone else confirm?
I don't think it was the update, but certain apps seem to exaggerate performance issues. I fixed mine by marking Pokemon Go (the only 3d game I play), as "Restricted" under battery usage settings.
I've been testing this configuration for about 2 days now and it looks like that solved it.
Just to set the record straight, the Android 10 update fixed the random performance problems that have plagued the device so far. There is some hitching right after a reboot, but if you let the phone settle, it's fine until the next reboot.
