I would like to know your opinion. I really want to upgrade my phone. As most of you know Nexus 5 battery and camera are not great and after 2 years I own it battery is getting bad. We have 2 new Nexuses out but for some reason I`m not a big fan of them. I already studied threads on XDA and it seems N5X isn`t a big upgrade for N5. Ofc camera is better but the rest is a bit disappoiting. N6p is too expensive for me as I live in Europe. Paying 649 euro for 32 GB is too much for me. Also there is a lot of concerns about the build quality.
So I came up with idea to give a chance to OPT. I already got an invitiation but still can`t make the decision wheater to buy it or not. Specs looks amazing so the build quality. Camera is fine and battery seems to be a lot better than my N5. The only concerns are the finger print sensor that is not as accurate and fails sometimes to read the print and software that comes with it. I read that a lot of apps crashes, some of them like Google Maps only works in horizontal mode etc. Is it really that bad ? Should I avoid coming from Nexus device to chinese brand ? I also heard that Oneplus support is really poor. Waiting for weeks to get the answer through the ticket system.
I would like you to share your opinion about that matter please. Still have 24h before invitation expires. Thank you !!

I had a similar problem. I changed the N5 on the OPT and my impressions are these:
+ Battery is much better.
+ Fingerprint reader works well.
+/- Dual sim is an advantage, but to automatically identify, with the sim card I want to call and write text messages are annoying and every 1-2 days I have to re-adjust to manual selection (I use a personal phone number and buisness phone number).
+/- Camera takes good photos, but there are problems with slow autofocus.
+/- In everyday use I do not see much difference in performance between the OPT and N5 (everything running smoothly).
- Lack of NFC and QI charge (although I admit that in N5 did not use these features).
- I suggest you immediately buy a case or backcover, because the back of the phone has an unpleasant structure of sandpaper.

Coming from a nexus 5 myself. I love the OPT. I have no complaints about the phone itself.
My only concern is development, hopefully that will change once the phone is released to the masses, dropping the invite system.
With the OPX now released I wonder will many people who were going to buy the OPT now purchase the X instead... Will have to wait and see.
For me everything except the heating of device because of SD 810 and bugs in OxygenOs here and there works nice. If you don't care about heating issue this will be a good buy.

I came from a nexus 4 then had a oneplus one and now a OPT. The phone is great. Oxygen OS sucks but I'm running hydrogen OS with trebuchet launcher. Fastest phone I've ever used and the camera is great. I never have issues with the fingerprint reader. The only issue is there is no quick charge so it takes 2+hours to fully charge but the battery lasts me all day so that's not an issue.
I did the same cange and the OPT with oxygen OS is way slower than N5 with marshmallow, and it is sometimes buggy, sometimes the camera is super slow... The battery is waaay better and the camera takes much better pictures on the OPT. The screen and the audio is also much better on the OPT. The speed problem is a software problem, with cyanogenmod it is super fast. I am happy, but for not flashers you need to trust oneplus and Oxygen updates if you want this phone.
I also came from the Nexus 5. The N5 was my all-time favorite device. I did my research, gave it some thought, weighed my options and decided to take a chance with the OPT.
I have no regrets, at all now.
Reading of other OPT owner experiences, I was reluctant and at first regretted my decision, but that passed once I got my hands on it.
I have rooted my OPT and have tried all the available roms and kernels for it. While the OPT doesn't yet have as many roms available, it has enough to satisfy my mod addiction for now. I'm confident that developers will put out more and more over the next while.
Currently I'm back to using OxygenOS (2.1.1) and the Beoffla kernel. I also use coolify and disable the "keep awake" permission on pretty much everything. In the kernel settings I use the Impulse governor and the row scheduler.
I don't have a screenshot available, but I generally get around 4.5 hours SOT, unless I was playing games or something intensive. Sure charging takes a couple of hours, but I stay on top of it and it never becomes a problem for me.
Is OxygenOS perfect? Nah, but no rom is "perfect". It is stable enough to use as a daily driver and has enough options to tweak things a bit. People often complain that OxygenOS isn't stable or doesn't offer enough built in mods. I think that's horse****. It's a matter of knowing what you're doing. I use Tasker for nearly anything that isn't built in to the OS. No worries.
The camera on the OPT is pretty decent. Again, you will read complaints about speed and whatnot, but I really don't think it's that slow. I mean, I'm rarely shooting something that requires super high speed reaction. Know what I mean? See the attached picture of my cat. That's not bad in my opinion.
That was just a quick shot, no set up, just point and shoot.
Besides, a good photographer can take a good picture with a crappy camera. There's far more to taking a picture than resolution and speed of software.
The only time my OPT feels hot is when I'm flashing roms. Even then its not abnormally hot or anything. During normal useage even while playing games the temp never gets unusually hot. Of course it's going to feel hot if you plug it in and play Need for Speed for an hour. Any phone would get hot.
The only roms currently which allow you to use the fingerprint sensor are OxygenOS and HydrogenOS. I think it works very well. The only time it doesn't respond is when I don't put my finger on the sensor properly. It works every time i do it right.
I love the notification slider. It's convenient.
I bought an official OPT flip cover. I think it looks and feels great.
The speaker works sufficiently well for a small speaker. Again, I don't have much need for using the external speaker. I prefer headphones, however, on the occasions I've used the speaker, it was loud and clear. That's all I need.
Dual sim... I only need/use one sim. Using one works properly as expected. The sim I used in my N5 was of course a micro sim, but the OPT uses nano sims, so I just trimmed my micro sim to fit the nano slot. Never had any problems.
So, overall, I'm very happy with the OPT.
My single real complaint is that I like to use an OTG cable and flash drive. The generic USB c OTG does not work on the OPT. You have to use the USB c to microsd adapter. I mean it's not the end of the world, its just an inconvenience.
Get the OPT. You won't regret it.

I'm basing on some reviews, speed tests, but the two seems to be on par with each other. Price is/may kind of an issue here as I would love to use some of the money (if I buy the OP5) for the after sales and some personal stuff. However if the Note 8 is really "bang for the buck" then I'll gladly go with it. I also tried to search some issues. Here's what I found so far:

Red tint in a lot of device
Light leak (lights leaking on the side of the phone not much of an issue for me)

I may be wrong with some of this but I've researched and this is what I've seen.
If this is a point to consider, I'm coming from a Xperia Z3Compact which didn't last long (I hated sony to the hell because of this) because of the digitizer issue. However, I enjoyed tweaking that phone. Now I'm forced to use my iPhone5s with jailbreak.
Note: Just to be clear, the devices in comparison are OP5 8gb/128gb and Note 8 6gb/64gb Exynos
Note: I'm posting this to each respective forum to have a fair discussion for each phone. I hope this is allowed. I also hope to help some people that have the same options with me.

Thank you guys. After a long comparison, I'm going for the OP5 even with the rumors of OP5T. I just hate the back fingerprint scanner placements which is the trend now. And regarding with the bezels, I'm more into those phone with bezels on top and bottom for landscape usage. I've been trying the S8+, and some games that I play doesn't maximize or utilize the whole screen which leaves some part of the screen blank. However, the screen in the Note 8 is A1 dont get me wrong, but I'm more into the performance and the OP5's screen is enough. Thank you guys!
You are on the OP5 forum so replies can't be realistic... I prefer the OP5 anyday over any Sammy device for just one reason: the OS. I prefer a clean near stock Android OS over the bloated TW UI but that's just me. Note 8 is a great device and all of Samsung hardware is very well made, but the almost double price and the OS give my vote to the OnePlus 5.

I don't have any heat issues as well. Quite the opposite: It's the coolest device I ever had, much cooler than the Galaxy S5, LG G4 and the HTC 10 which I all had before.
The question, in my opinion, is not "OP5 or Note 8" but "OP5 or HTC U11 or LG V30". But I'm very happy with the OP5!

I've seen the HTC U11, but I'm not a fan of the shiny back and HTC as well haha. About the V30, I guess I can consider it but this bootloop issue prevents me to check on it. Also, I updated the post and added the Jelly effect. Have you experienced it?
No jelly effect on my device.
I came from a s8 and s8 plus and so far beside the screen which to me the op5 looks great screen wise obviously not as great as the s8 but still awesome. And the design of the op5 is more of a shared look with smart phones.
Beside that I am very impressed with the onep5 I do not regret the giving up my s8 for this phone. It's so damn smooth and fluid I've had no hiccups.
I have none of the issues on my oneplus 5 that you mentioned
I'm happy with it.

Well your cons for the OnePlus 5 I don't have any of them. My GPS is rock solid as I use it for work at 2+ hours a day. Locks in seconds and never see drift. Bluetooth? I connect to my 2011 Nissan with no issues and connect it to audio adapter (MPOW to stream Bluetooth Audio to my AUX port) and 2 sets of headphones... never an issue with quality or connectivity. My phone never gets hot and while gaming, i barely notice it gets slightly warm. (EX Kernel manager shows CPU temp at 98F after 30 min of asphalt 8.
Maybe you have a phone you should RMA? But there is no way in hell I'm paying $1000 for ANY smart phone when I can get a phone that's better performing, has longer battery life, faster charging, clean basically Stock Android and likely faster updates then Sammy. I used to be a big Sammy fan but not since i left my Note 4 and got a Nexus 6P and now the OP5.
This isn't a bias, these are what I look for in a phone and the things that made me choose this phone over the S8+, LG G6 and the HTC U11.
The one Phone I would look at today compared to the OP5 is the new LG V30. Simply because It will support the new 600mhz band 71 from T-Mobile. I'd have to see how the battery holds up and how well the OS is optimized cause I'm not a fan of LG and it's skinned OS and it's much slower charging speed.
Update: I forgot to mention the Jelly effect. I heard people saying it effects every phone but I got my OP5 on launch day and I can tell you more then a dozen people have looked at my phone and no one can see a "jelly effect" If mine has it it's so minimal its not noticeable. I believe the severity vary's a lot.

I'm really a fan of SPen but the price really kills it. I thought the price would go lower because of the Note 7 issue haha! I've read some reviews about V30 and its impressive. However I'm really not a fan of LG's OS. I tried G6 and its not for me. But I'll try V30 some other time. About the jelly effect, when I've seen the issue in youtube it made me dizzy a little bit but I dont know if I'll be affected in real life. There little to no demo phones of OP5 here in my country. Well, I purchased the phone 1 week ago, and yes, Jelly Effect is presented, but it's barely to notice. So really nothing which I'd somehow annoying. And the performance and battery life of this phone are outstanding
go for oneplus5.. best device that you can get...samsung sucks

Yeah I also have a theory that the when the jelly effect on a video capture, that the recording enhances the effect, especially in slow motion. I think it's far fewer people say they see then the people who say they can't see it all all.
The Note's screen is better and the S Pen is great.
I owned a Note 4 but could got tired of all bloatware and Samsung in general. I know Touchwiz has improved but it's still too much.
Super happy with the OP5. I mostly used the S Pen for navigation and I use a simpler stylus I found on Amazon on the OP5 and it works great.
No issues with GPS, bluetooth or anything else for me.
The Jelly effect is present on my device, but I don't even notice it anymore more. Very rarely.
I'd go for the OnePlus 5 just because of the price. I can't see how the Note 8's camera, screen, waterproofing and microSD slot make up for that $500 difference. The Note 8 can't even make up for the $200 difference from the S8, and those are nearly identical phones in many aspects.
I chose the OnePlus 5 for the following reasons:
- Performance
- Development community and support
- Price
Samsung tends to have issues with all 3 of the above.
The biggest difference here being the price and you really need to ask yourself "Am I really getting my money's worth?"
I highly doubt the Note 8 is $500 better than the OnePlus 5 or 2-300 better than any other Flagship launched this year.
Very cool running device... GPS issue may have been the 911 bug, but that was quite a while ago.Jelly Screen seems non existent, but people like to report it never the less (even on moto phone....) Wifi issues? Might be because using inferior x12 modem so I'm disappointed. x16 modem is much better, which is what other flagships using 835 win at. Also oneplus 5 display isn't all that great, just 1080p, it does look good, HOWEVER no support for HDR content i've so ever wanted to view. but 1080p looks very good as any screen if few inches away from.
Kinda sick of hearing the jelly effect as a negative. It's not, its more of an accent flavor. Adding life to scrolling. As for those other issues i have never seen them outside of xXx's rom. Running stock 4.5.12 right now and took a nice drive and my device had me spot on every step of the 2 hour drive. it just depends on what you want. Best hope developer support for the note 8 is more than nothing. Oneplus devices live longer than most devices out there. hell the OPO is on oreo right now. go figure.
Overheating? This phone stays cool with heavy games for more than 40 minutes. I'm not saying as a pro for op5, the note 8 snapdragon version should be the same ( I don't know if there is a snap version for the note).
Jelly is present on EVERY op5, some people see it, some people don't. When I order it I think that the first thing to do was to check the jelly issue, it came and I use it for a day, I didn't remember the jelly issue until I read it in the forum again, and when I scroll fast up and down I see it, but I have to do a fast up and down scroll and be looking for it, I don't see it normal usage. Even it costs me a little to see it intentionally.

I am in a market for a new phone and my best bet so far is the Mate 8. I love its screen size, body-to-screen ratio, battery life and smooth performance.
However, reading numerous reviews raised some concerns for me that I was hoping you guys could help me with:
- The dreaded software. Is it so horrible in its latest official version (I would like to mention that I would use only official stuff so I am safe not to void warranty)?
- Can I make the phone look and feel as a "normal" Android phone?
- What is going on with the camera? Some reviews stated it's horribly unstable, slow and the photo quality is subpar. How is the current situation?
- How about the notification issue? Has it been resolved?
- How is the screen looking for you? Any tints and other distracting stuff?

Can't say about other variants, but I have an L29 and on official B581
- software is fine and stable (as stable as any other major brand)
- I'm running Nova launcher which works perfectly. The Huawei own launcher is ok as well. Runs like any other Android.
- Camera is ok. Not the best in class but good enough.
- Notifications issues were resolved a while back.
- The screen is absolutely fine, no specific issues.
Do note that there hasn't been any major original android development on this (some attempts at Lineage, but didn't get too far).

I am in a market for a new phone and my best bet so far is the Mate 8. I love its screen size, body-to-screen ratio, battery life and smooth performance.
However, reading numerous reviews raised some concerns for me that I was hoping you guys could help me with:
- The dreaded software. Is it so horrible in its latest official version (I would like to mention that I would use only official stuff so I am safe not to void warranty)?
- Can I make the phone look and feel as a "normal" Android phone?
- What is going on with the camera? Some reviews stated it's horribly unstable, slow and the photo quality is subpar. How is the current situation?
- How about the notification issue? Has it been resolved?
- How is the screen looking for you? Any tints and other distracting stuff?

I have the Mate8, L29C185B series. I've "retired" it about a month ago, and got the 9.
Have I had any problems in the just over a year? Nope. I run 100% stock, don't root, unlock bootloader or anything.
Other than using Nova Launcher Prime, instead of EMUI, what she came with, is how I run it.
Onto the software. It came with android 6, which I was perfectly fine with. It was updated to 7 in April of 2017.
Had 7 not been released, in my usage, it wouldn't have made a difference. 6 for me was rock solid.
My phone stays on 24/7. My usage is around 1500-2000 minutes per month on the phone, 300-400 text messages
per month, tons of web browsing (work), mp3's, streaming and LOTS of photographs.
On the subject of photos, I use Camera FV5 for that device, and it works fantastic. The key to getting a good
photo with a smartphone, is still to make sure you HOLD it still. The camera on the 9 is faster at capturing, but
for what I use the camera on the 8 for, it does the job. I do field electronics work, and use the phone camera
to snap photos of failures and parts on the equipment. The photos were always pretty clear, and in focus.
(I'm a weekend photographer for over 30 years, so I'm pretty good at holding it still).
The battery life for me, was typically 1 to 1.5 days. On weekends, I typically don't even use my phone, so charging
it Friday evening, would usually give me 60% left over by Sunday evening.
The 8 is a fantastic phone, in my opinion, unless you just "gotta have" the latest and greatest firmware installed.
Huawei isn't known for being spot on, to releasing software, but for my last 3 Huawei phones (Mate 2,8,9) they
have been very stable without any problems, that I didn't concern myself if it didn't have the latest firmware.
"It just works".

I own Pocophone F1 , Should I switch to essential? What are cons and pros of Essential phone? It's on latest pie right now and fingerprint option is missing from settings, Can it be fixed? Is Camera "That" bad? Is battery better than Poco?

I have no experience with the Pocophone, but I will say that I have been very pleased with this phone. The only thing I don't like is the sensitivity of adaptive brightness.
A few things about the PH-1 that I like:
1. It was developed by the guy that created the Android operating system, and it's a fairly pure Android experience, with the exception of the camera.
2. It gets security patches monthly, and whenever a new version of the Android operating system is released, the PH-1 usually gets that update the same day.
3. The camera is fine, it's just the stock camera app that's the problem, and even then, the stock app isn't terrible. Plus, there's a nice Google Camera app ported for this phone.
4. Battery life is pretty darn good. As long as I don't forget to turn off the hotspot, AccuBattery estimates almost 24 hours of use for me. Whenever I leave the hotspot on unintentionally, it will drop to around 18 hours.
5. Fingerprint option is not missing for me, and it's always worked fine. I wonder if anyone who's had a problem has a rooted phone. I've left the phone locked and on the stock OS, and it's been great.
6. You can't beat the price. I bought mine for $375 from Best Buy. It's no longer available through them, but you can easily find it in the ~$400 range.
Depends on what you want. The PH-1 has the look and feel of a premium phone with near stock software and timely updates. Battery life is great for 3040 mAh. Might not be as impressive as the 4000 mAh Pocophone. The screen is quite good if you get one without light bleed. The camera isn't great but it's now solid/ good after several updates.
The modular system was a nice idea, however Essential hasn't really done much with it. 360 camera never worked that well and the headphone jack / enhanced DAC accessory is just too little too late.
If you really want the PH-1 you should search about reception issues on your carrier. I had poor reception issues on my original PH-1 and several replacement devices.

When the price tag was 250-300 it was an obvious choice but since the price has risen to 400-500 dollars i would be less able to suggest it was the best option but for "power users" id say its still the best option. Ultimate customization, no bloat, no bull**** stock apps, 2 adb line bootloader unlock, all stock files and flashes provided by manufacture, great/fast hardware with tons of cool features in a pretty robust chassis. My wife even likes it stock, enough to switch from a life long love of apple.

My question is for former Pixel owners who jumped ships to OP. I am thinking to move from Pixel 3 to 8P but I am wondering what prominent features will I be missing? I understand that gcam mod is alive and well on OP platform, but what about tight integration with G assistant? Phone call screens, text spam protection? Is there anything else that someone could shed some light? How happy / unhappy you are with the switch?
Pixel is growing old on me. The high price for the specs are ridics; Google is having serious personality issues, hard to see the direction of where they are going with the phone. I think I am ready to move to a new phone.

Thats a solid statement; thank you. Do you use screencall feature? Is it working straight up on OP or do you need to mess with modules / magdisk ? How is your gcam mod ( or you don't even use it ? )
Bought Pro8 at launch, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted with Magisk but I don't need twrp. Played with some modules which there are many.... Stock OOS is excellent, on A11 and I'm more than happy with the 1+ camera & use stock phone setup. Really I've never looked back and will get the Pro 9 next year....

For some reason I used to get 10-20 spam calls a day, but with the screencall feature / automatic spam call rejection I get 0. My biggest fear is that I may be hurdling toward that situation, if I jump ships. Other than this, I feel I can live with everything else. 8P looks amazing. Thanks for the feedback!

10 hours SOT on most days here.
Really good phone, I can't fault it.
As others have said root is a breeze and the community is pretty active so there's that too.
You might miss the camera for point and shoot but you can take some phenomenal pics on the 8 Pro.
I just moved to OnePlus 8 Pro recently from Pixel3XL. This phone is a treat to use daily and everything works nice and stable. Couple of misses so far:
1. Losing widevine L1 after unlocking bootloader
2. No RCS on Google Fi on OP8Pro as of now (>7 months after release).
3. ROM update with root is a bit (only slightly) more of a pain than on Pixel where I had an automated script based update coded using ADB.
For Camera, I use both the stock and GCAM port. GCAM port gives more detail in shots just like on P3XL. I am happy with the camera performance so far.
Biggest hits so far:
1. What a treat that display with 120Hz refresh! Wow!
2. Just smooth, no hiccups performance! I think 12GB RAM helps here quite a bit. 4GB of P3XL just wasn't enough
3. Battery life!
I moved from Pixel 3 XL to a Samsung Galaxy S10 for a few months, then jumped to the 8 Pro as quickly as I could (that S10 was the worst phone ever!).
I miss the Camera. The camera quality was definitely better. A lot of times i would take pictures, and i'd crop out smaller areas because they were what i was really going for, and even though that meant zooming in on an image, the fine details of the pixel images were so much better than any other phone that it looked like a picture from any other phone, its something thats terribly overlooked by almost everyone!
Battery life is better.
I do miss having a finger print reader on the back, i just like it better...
I miss the AOD, i think its better than what we have now on the OP, but its good enough. I still miss the one on the pixel though.
I think what i miss the most though is the front firing speakers! Anything else is trash, but "trash" seems to be common nowadays....
When it comes to things like phone call screening, i believe there's a way to get that on the OP, but i dont really care much for it. I've started using (and did so soon after getting the 3 XL) the app called "Should I Answer?". I set it up to reject all calls from numbers that arent in my phone. I get 20+ calls every single day, and even when i used the call screening, it just resulted in more work for me as they tried to get me on the phone. My new method allows people to leave a message. If its important, they will, and i'll call them back.

Compare GCAM on OnePlus 8 Pro with GCAM on P3XL. The photos get slightly more detailed on my OnePlus 8 Pro compared to my P3XL. In all aspects, they are identicle, with OP8Pro slightly better. Not sure if P5 would have given better results. But P5 is very disappointing for me.

I think the battery is better on the OP8Pro, but the optimization is better on the Pixel. On my Pixel's, all of them, i'd go all day and have roughly 25 to 40% battery left. I was getting slightly more then that with my OP8P until i upgraded to Android 11, now i have to charge up around 7 or 8pm because im at < 20%. Not sure what happened, i'll go into the battery options to see what used most of it, and there's only like... 10 things using at most 2% battery, so its a bit misleading, still not sure whats doing it.

Did you wipe after the 11 upgrade?
Always best to have a fresh start between bases.
I average about 2 days and about 8-10 hours SOT
Obviously comes with a fair bit of tweaking but yea that's my average..
Currently actually running pixel experience on 11 and battery has been lessened, idle is superb but any kind of work I give the phone burns more battery than what OOS did.
Maybe it'll improve with updates and or a different kernel.

Nope! There's a chance that's contributing to the issue, but i have a few other things i think are causing it. I'm too lazy to dig into it though haha, i dont mind charging it in the evening.

Automated script based update?
I came from the Pixel 2 XL only thing i miss is the call screen where you could have your assistant answer the phone. And its really not that big of a deal
OnePlus 8 Pro proud owner.
Let's say that you take 9 Pro in march 2021.
You will have the latest and the best hardware on the market. Maybe we will get Zeiss lens for camera.
Phone is well build and looks good.
Oxygen is awesome OS! Also, except Google OnePlus is the first to get software upgrades.
Battery is decent. But that depends on the user...
Warp charging 30w/6A, there is no need to explain... And it will go to 65w or more.
Now, from 8 Pro we got 30w wireless charging. That is Great! And it will go to 45w or more.
