Hi guys ,
I have recently brought a Samsung s7 edge on EE in the UK, I did but the phone second hand but appears to be working correctly to start .
The phone will not find any software updates or play pokemon go for my son and Samsung knox is also tripped out , says the software has been modified in a unauthorised way, I went to samsung and they said it has been rooted and void of warranty so all I can do is Give them £250 for a new motherboard for the phone.
I followed some instructions by downloading a terminal client and it's not showing me as having super user status on the device ,
.I've had I phones since day one and was loving the freedom of android but I really do find myself out of my league as I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to this kind of stuff . I'm looking to either flash the phone back to its factory state or have the phone rooted properly to allow me to update etc
I'm very apprehensive about attempting this myself and was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a idiots guide on how to or specialist on here who would do it for payment if I were to meet them somewhere with their laptop
I have tried Google searching but nothing much seems to make sense , thanks in advance
You want to flash a stock firmware. Get everything working OK first. Try "Updato" for fast firmware downloads. Try a "BTU" firmware. Download Samsung phone drivers and Odin. YouTube Odin very simple to use. Should restore your phone. Then look into rooting.

The phone is modified in a way that it was rooted before, but prior to selling, the vendor unrooted it. Pokemon Go will not work on a rooted device.
First thing is to find the exact build of the phone (under software info in the about section of settings), then look for the corresponding firmware. Trustworthy sources is this forum and sammobile (I usually get my firmware files here). Samsung PC drivers can be found on the internet. Officially they are installed on the PC when you install Samsung SmartSwitch (Samsung's PC Backup and Updating software). Then download Odin. You will use that to flash the stock firmware back onto your phone.

you need to unroot and Relock the Bootloader
OTA updates doesn't work on some phones with unlock bootloader

The UK S7 Edge, which is the Exynos variant (G935F) doesn't have bootloader restrictions in that form, thus there is nothing to "relock".

Why do you link to an article on a questionable site, named exactly what I'd imagine a phishing, scammer website would call it to someone completely new to Android!? Seriously, stop linking to these weird a** pages. These pages only exist to generate traffic. They're not even ran by real people. The same exact text on that website is on five other websites, copied and pasted. This is not productive. New users need assistance that's going to help them in the long term. They have to understand the process.
@Elliottsdaddy You want your device restored to its original state. Unrooted. The process of unrooting by flashing a stock firmware is fairly complicated for a newbie and requires you to extensively read and comprehend the tutorial/process. Seriously. There is a lot that can go wrong. I'm gonna ask you to follow the link below. It's a tutorial, posted on XDA by one of our senior members @henklbr. If you have questions, first use the search function and see if your question has already been answered by someone. If not, feel free to ask and give enough detail so people can help you appropriately.

anyway thanks for noticing :good:
I'm not very tech savvy, but rooting this model (S7 Edge SM-935A) seems to be hard according to what I have found. I would like to root it and get rid of all the bloatware and try a custom ROM, but don't want to mess things up. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks very much for any info.
I have an AT&T S7 Edge and wanted to get rid of the bloatware also. I installed this ROM and all is working great. I didn't root device but I have no bloatware. It also get's OTA updates quick.

Not really difficult. Need a special version of odin, modded by someone who goes by the alias Prince Comey. Then must rught click on the exe file in winblowz and select 'run as administrator'.
The non-modded versions will error out and won't complete the flashing process. Must be careful, and be sure that you are are flashing the correct files for your particular phone. I rooted my AT&T S7 Edge by flashing just one file.
The trickiest part is finding the files for your variant, whether it's AT&T, Verizon, or other. Also must install the usb driver for Samsung and the adb driver, both on your windows computer.

There is no engineering bootloader available for Oreo yet, so you will have to drop back to Nougat. From there, you can either go with AT&T firmware or the Unlocked firmware, depending on how badly you want WiFi calling and VoLTE. (If you aren't an AT&T customer, this is a really easy call).
Just going with the U firmware will remove the vast majority of the bloat right out of the box. You can root it and get the rest, but I haven't found it to be worth the effort, as the U firmware is pretty good as it is.

Samsung S7 edge and S7 flat variants do not allow TWRP to remain installed upon rebooting. There are ways to still root with it however. I found a post on X.D.A. that states SM-G935A ( AT&T variant of the 7s Edge ) runs fine after flashing the SM-G935U firmware. I had flashed it without issues myself, however I never tested it before running across the comboRom that I was originally looking for. Just place all 5 files in the correct positions ( BL,AP,CP,CSC,USER) of Odin. If Odin is only allowing you to 4 spots to flash. You need to use a different version of Odin. I used the "patched" version of Odin. Unsure if that is one and the same as the prince version.
S7 Edge while 'rooted' at least by the way I had rooted them. Runs very very HOT and lags to the point of annoyance.
So if you 'think' you need to root your phone. Make sure you need to first and fore most because was a back and forth headache to root. make changes, then unroot. then test. then root again. then test agian, then unroot.. etc.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/development/easyroot-unroot-t3859762
that link is for bootloader V4 to root.
When flashing SU make sure you use the system version and not the system-less version if you follow the instructions for OREO (Android version 8 ). The instructions I originally followed never stated that aspect and I had gone in circles for an hour until i discovered the problem.
Verizon variant had a few different ways to root/un-root, with different walk-thrus of which I 'think' would work with different carriers. Just instead of using the S935V firmware, You would just need to use your carriers firmware while flashing it with Odin but I could be wrong so please double check the comments of whichever way you choose to root your phone for someone else with similar question/concerns as yours.
If you had been using your phone after the messages were deleted ( especially if its been awhile since you deleted them ) then you are likely S.O.L. However if it's worth the time spent for you to try, then it's worth the effort to try.

This thread is only 1 page long with 10 previous posts before yours. Out of those 10 posts, 3-4 of them describes what you're seeking...
Guessing you saw the threads title and bcuz of that you clicked on it and asked your question. Did it ever dawn on you that your question is nearly identical to the title of this thread? This is how forums work, if a threads subject is similar to the subject that you're interested in then, the thread may contain your answer. Next, is where quite a few folks seem to really struggle, sort of like yourself but it's ok, everyone was new once. This is where you'd want to pay close attention, really concentrate and use every bit of brain power to focus on this next step. I'm going to reiterate, just in case I lost ya: You just located a thread that it's title is very similar to a question that you have (you did a good job searching & your instincts to click/open it are on point, well done). A threads title tells you that the discussion(s) inside there relate to that topic. Upon opening the thread, you'll see rectangles vertically aligned, when members add thoughts or ideas to the topic, they're separated by the rectangles. They're arranged in chronological order the top being the first, the most recent or latest entry being the bottom. And thats how forums like this one and many others work. Pretty simple idea, I think, yet its highly effective.
Now, with this knowledge, Im sure your already 10 steps ahead of me, but I'll mention anyway for anyone else. To fully utilize the resourceful contents here, as it contains vast amounts of invaluable info, one must simply READ and COMPREHEND info that pertains to the subject that brought you here. That means reading (& understanding what you just read), each one of the posts inside the threads. No really, it really is that simple! Unless your device is new, theres likely someone who already asked your question or someone already posted a set of instructions describing the task youre needing. You can test this theory with this same thread youve commented in.
Amazing isn't it? By now, you've probably already figured it out and concluded that posting your message which mirrors the first one here wasn't necessary, nor was including your phone number.. If it wasnt already obvious, you're the lone outcast whom shared their number on a public forum. Most of us here, refrain from such similar activity, since the forum has option to directly contact members via the internal private messaging system. Some highly value their privacy and anonymity. But I cant decide for you, obviously you're comfortable with it.
......
@Talysdaddy
So that was the most condescensing, egotistical, and just blatantly rude response I have ever seen given on this site.. I promise you, I have a very impressive ability to retain knowledge, but considering I was on this site in the first place due to the fact that I have never been interested in, or ever even attempted to mess with my phone before in any type of way, I am slightly uneducated on this PARTICULAR topic. However, that IS NOT because i lack the ability to learn, comprehend and/or retain information, understood?
It is due to the fact that I have never sat down and educated myself on it.. WHICH BY THE WAY, is WHY I'm on this site in the first place, you know that IS the entire PURPOSE of this site? ....
You see how that works? .. Let me break it down for you! Pay close attention and try to follow me and actually comprehend what I am saying! (if you're able to, that is). ANYWAYS, as I was saying, I CAME TO THIS SITE TO TRY TO EDUCATE MYSELF on something I NEEDED to educated on! ALSO to be able to interact with other people, and ask those people questions! To be able to recieve responses from those people, in order to obtain the information THAT I CAME HERE FOR! WHICH BY THE WAY, IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS SITE IS SUPPOSED TO BE USED FOR! Hopefully I have yet to lose you, because this is the most important part! Let's try to read this next part, and actually try and COMPREHEND and UNDERSTAND what I'm saying. I CAME HERE TO USE THIS WEBSITE IN THE EXACT WAY THAT IT IS MEANT TO BE USED! .. To be able to share information! To exchange information! And to obtain information that I am not privy to or an expert on prior to visiting the site!! .. If I was educated on these things I WOULD NOT BE HERE!! Obviously! Soooooo, instead of being an arrogant and cocky JERK, do EVERYONE on this site a huge FAVOR, and next time NOT leave such a RUDE, SMART COMMENT!! Thanks!
P.S. isn't it funny how just from that comment, I could tell you exactly what you look like, the life you live, how insecure you are in yourself, and how you deal with that by trying to belittle others, in an attempt to make yourself feel superior.. BUT, and yes, there is a BUT!! Just because you might know more about this topic than myself, absolutely does not make you ANY more intelligent than myself.. Because I promise, anybody who leaves the response that you left, when I am using the site for its specific purpose in the first place, welllll... let's just say anyone who would do that, and who would do it to boost their superiority complex as a defense to their pathetic insecurities, well, let's just say I would bet my life on the fact that my IQ would make yours look SORT OF like you TRIED to make me look and feel when you left that comment
That's all, hope you find something better to do with your time than this in the future.. it is kind of sad! If you're not here to help, then don't comment! That goes for everyone's posts! Jerk.
Hey all, I have successfully achieved root on the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G SM-G977B. The process was simple due to it being the same process as topjohnwu already published. This is the official page for the instructions by topjohnwu which do work: topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root. If you struggle at any point feel free to reply and I will help where I can.
Currently TWRP doesn't work but I am spending time attempting to port it over. I am in no way an advanced developer but technology is my passion. So if I am successful and another developer hasn't already ported one over I'll be happy to post, but expect bugs. Due to this my device is currently unrooted but I can quickly root it and add pictures to prove .
Happy Rooting!.
Verizon Locked?
Are you in the US? The only way to currently buy it is through Samsung/Verizon and I am worried it may be locked to Verizon. Will that cause any issues in terms of rooting?

The US version of the Galaxy S10 5G Model is snapdragon 855 SM G977U and from a bit of search you won't be able to root
If you want to root your phone your going to need an Exynos version SM G977N Unlocked & SM G977B of the Galaxy S10 5G which he has above
Your going to have to wait until someone sells a unlocked version of the snapdragon even then don't know if you can still root

Currently I can successfully boot into TWRP by flashing a custom modified built using the s10+ device tree as a base with modifications to fit the s10 5g.
TWRP seems to work perfectly, and it seems that the current issue is all the security measures Samsung put in place. I have attempted modifying the multidisabler just by adding my version to the support list but while I do get further then without it. I still get stuck on Samsung logo before a reboot. And based in my limited knowledge on the script and also looking through the files as root previously it seems Samsung has changed a few files around. So that is were I am at.
Latest update: I am now working with ianmacd (the current maintainer of Unnofficial TWRP for the s10/+/e) to bring youse and myself a working twrp for our devices!, according to my observations and Ian's observations when building a custom kernel that the s10 5g is more different than the s10/+/e range so please be patient while me an Ian work on this. Based on everything he will now be the lead developer and I'll be the tester gathering all required files. I doubt my work will be used but it was fun experimenting with it and who knows maybe it could help. I'll continue to post updates

Hey there! Do you have any updates on this? I just received my new S10 5G today (coming from G975).
I saw @ianmacd mention this variant on his G97x TWRP thread... is it already working? Safe to patch AP with Magisk? What about the multidisabler?
Thanks mate!
I just seen that Sprint's US 5g ver has a boot loader that can be unlocked. I just checked on my fully updated Sprint 5g the setting is there. One step closer to root?

I'm actually considering purchasing this phone since I find out it's bootloader can be unlocked and there's root possibility.. I really hope it can be done.
no progress right ?
most people dont have the phone
and the root right now is for the B model which is going for 1500 on ebay
while the N model can be found for 700
N model needs root so badly
i want the 5G but due to lack of support i can't buy it
keeping the s10+ for now

Hello everybody,
I have an SM-G977B and I followed the root guide in the top of this thread.
Arrived at "Unlocking Bootloader" => "Long press volume up to unlock the bootloader." in download mode that option is not in the list and pressing volume up nothing happens.
By skipping that step with Odin I can only load original roms without the root.
How do I get the option to unlock the bootloader in the download mode menu?
Excuse me for the bad English,
best regards.
I tried flashing Magisk onto my phone, everything was going well then suddenly it went into a boot loop and I assume Knox was tripped. I can get it into download mode but I can't find the firmware and I'm quite lost. Someone, please help!
I am also looking for my firmware. I must say it's a huge pain in the rear to find something that you can download for free.
From what I found it seems the fastest option is from samfw dot com
There, you have to find out your version, your region and carrier as well.
Good luck, you're not alone, although as you wrote it 4 days ago I assume and hope you already found something
