What would be the reason that I cannot unlock the bootloader? Motorola website says it cannot be obtained
The amazon version (the one with ads) has a non-unlockable bootloader.

Then I'm not sure, maybe it was previously unlocked? I'm just guessing here, could just as well be an error on Motorola's side.

Maybe when I hook to PC, I will run a command to check if it's already unlocked. Isn't it fastboot get oem data?

A little more information. Is it an Amazon version because if it is, then it can't be unlocked.

Did you tried to get the unlock code on the Motorola page? It's mentioned in rooting guide.

When copying the string had some space between string that's
So when copying string check clearly if there is a space.

They "fixed" that error now. Amazon phones are not unlockable anymore. If you install an OTA, your phone will be "fixed" too.

Source? It's all over the G4 forums and confirmed by Amazon and Motorola.
Another source besides the official Moto page that I linked above?
Also is this thread from Moto G4:

So that clearly describes, that not all phones from Amazon can't be unlocked. Because I don't have this ad version, but bought with prime, so all ok. I have mine since 14 days and all ok with unlocking.
Oh, no, that was ONLY for the Amazon ad-sponsored versions! The other ones bought from Amazon (including mine) are fine.

Unfortunately for the xt1609 there is no bootloader unlock method available, no root method available, and therefore no roms available for it. Verizon has the xt1609 on complete lockdown.

This is partially incorrect, it DOES have a root method, just not a bootloader unlock method. Got to the auto#initroot thread by searching XT1609, mine is rooted and works fine. Like I said though, no bootloader unlockage yet. Nor custom ROMs.

Yep, I know all about it.
However, at the time of my posting it was correct that there was no bootloader unlock/root method available for the xt1609.
Also If you look through the auto#initroot thread you will see I've posted several times there.
Appreciate the fyi though.
Thanks.

I remember you, and I agree, at the time it was correct. And I have been working on a BL unlock. It might happen, since I am able to flash BLs no issue, we could possibly just use an unlocked bootloader from an XT1601 or something of the sort, since it is a harpia device, it should in theory work.

That's what I'm working on, finding an unlocked BL file to use, or, if I can, edit mine so that I can test it. If it works, I'll upload the file, if it does not, I will try to figure out the whole deal about blowing a QFuse.

Yes, as the /dev folder is not write protected*, but I wasn't able to boot it, locked BL. I flashed twrp3.1.1.0-harpia and it DID flash, but like I said, locked BL.
*As root anyways.

Disregard that, I made a mistake post. And no, could not find a BL from one of those devices that was pre-unlocked.

Locked bootloader means no custom ROMs unless a permanent root exploit is identified for this model.

You can't upgrade because the bootloader is locked. The bootloader is locked because Verizon are money hungry and want to ensure you need an upgrade.
but in developer option there is an option to unlock boot loader isint that suffice ?
bump.
anyone please update
is it or is it not Verizon?
Hi all, I am in no way a developer, found out about this site from a Quora post about *drumroll* rooting a DT2. My question is this: I purchased my phone reconditioned (whatever that entails) from Amazon. It does not have the Verizon check mark on the bottom--does that mean I can root it? Please help!

Could we trick the DT2 into believing its an update for it, but then update the firmware to unlock the bootloader?... How does Verizon update the firmware themselves if the bootloader is locked?
I am set to unlock the bootloader after permanently unlocking this phone. I am worried of the warrning that they talk about concerning the warranty. Is there a way to lock the bootloader up before sending it off for warranty to T-Mobile?
You know you can just restore the phone back to stock, and relock the bootloader right?

No, they will never know. I sent phones in that had root, fastbooted all the original firmware and they were fixed and returned to me. Now if you were talking Samsung, that's a different story.
