Lag and freezing after April security patch. - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

I've had ongoing freezing and lagging when leaving the lock screen (fingerprint unlocking) since installing the April 2018 Security patch which has been frustrating.
Often I'll be required to put in my lock screen pattern as if I've just restarted the phone, so it seems like something is getting hung up there.
Anybody else had the same issue?

Having to put in your lock screen pattern should be because SystemUI is stopping, not sure about everything else. Did you try clearing cache? That might help.

Thanks for that, clearing the cache for SystemUI didn't seem to make a difference, but I'll keep trying for a solution.

Clear cache from recovery, not settings. It's more effective that way.

i have to put the pattern with fingerprint enabled many times since i bought the phone.. i think it is more of a security problem

*Possible* unlock glitch\security flaw discovered

So yesterday, I turned off the security pattern to unlock the phone. This morning, when I went to unlock it by sliding it, I was asked to draw the pattern again, even though I had turned off the Unlock Pattern.
But here's the interesting part: when asking for the unlock pattern, it'll accept ANY pattern to unlock the phone. Even if it is just a single circle.
I'm gonna upload a video showing this to YouTube soon.
EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPUY52kb8G8
Nice music in the video!
Interesting flaw there, perhaps it could be a settings glitch? Have you tried toggling the option to ON, then locking the device, unlocking, and then toggling it to OFF, to see if it didn't get interuppted while saving that setting?
Otherwise, have you rebooted after you removed the pattern requirement? If not, that setting could be lingering around in memory...
Actually, after shooting that video, I turned on the unlock pattern and turned it off again. It seemed to be good for a few hours, then the problem reoccured. Even now, the phone switched off due to the battery running out. When I turned it on and asked me for the unlock pattern, it unlocked atfer touching ONE circle.
Hm, interesting. Have you flashed the device at all or are you running stock OS?
As my sig says, stock. If I turn on the Unlock Pattern and turn it off, it'll stay like that for about 8 hours or so, and then it'll come back!
Hm, alright. I was going to suggest a factory reset, but that'll wipe your stuff off your HTC's memory (not the MicroSD Card, though). I haven't run into this problem before, I'll see if it does the same on mine when I get it.

I don't mind resetting it. I can backup my data through WaveSecure. I'm pretty sure that will fix the problem. But I'm more interested in finding out WHY it is happening on the first place.

Bizarre Lock Screen

Can anyone explain what would make THIS happen? I had Widget Locker installed for a minute and when I uninstalled, I still had a normal lock screen. Now this.
Thanks!
I had thought for a while, it just went away randomly and never happened again.

Try rebooting. This happened to me when I installed CM7, and then every time I change themes. A reboot always fixed it for me. Good luck!
Rebooting didn't work... IF i had lockscreen disabled. Leaving it enabled on reboot worked.
It could also be fixed by going into spare parts and unchecking compatibility mode. I had the same problem and i was like wtf. It did the same thing on a few apps.

Yup. I had this problem with Phiremod when I enabled the lock screen. What's worse is I enabled a password and found that when you slide this particular unlock screen, the password screen is small and only shows a portion of the number pad, so I was unable to enter my PIN. I'm told that a hard reboot would have fixed it, but I didn't realize it at the time, so I actually reinstalled Phiremod before doing the "compatibility mode uncheck" fix.

[Active Notification] Sometimes It Doesn't Work At All

Today I've the problem again, the notification simply doesn't work, it looks like the sensor is failing or something because I took it out of the pocket, as usual, and it doesn't light on... having to use the power button again...
It happened other time, some weeks after I bought it... complaining with the technical support on Moto Care, without results, so I've factory reset and wipe everything, and it works...
So, my first guess is that the cache of Active Notification may have some guilty on that, but I can't find the app from it to clean and check if it works. Does anyone knows what app is it?
I'm not gonna to factory reset this time, it simply not useful as a solution.
Does anyone have/had this problem?
Regards,
It happened to be one time. I found the solution to be simply disabling Active Notifications and then re-enabling it.

If a factory reset fixes it, it's probably not a sensor issue. It's possible that an app you've installed is interfering with it somehow - do you have any kind of root apps, or apps that play with system resources (like process managers/Greenify/etc.), or apps that control notifications?
I've noticed this on 4.4 a few times, as well as the lag on unlocking from AN a few times, too. Then again, I'm still on the leak, so that may have something to do with it.
Case maybe? Make sure the screen is clean. That proximity sensor is sensitive.
I think I found the problem.
The app management of what will show on active notification... don't active any of those that did not come checked after a reset. I did check some "Google's" for active notification.

Anyone have this problem with Oreo?

Updated to Oreo and now my second screen is missing and every 2 seconds a pop up says Unfortunately the second screen has stopped working.
Is there any fix for this? Thanks!

Have you tried a factory reset? That or force stopping it and clearing data?
Hi,
I found (with hard effort, kinda, cus it kept popping up) that in App info there is two of them, Second Screen provider & Second Screen settings.
Tried to quickly force close & clear data both of them but the Second Screen is crashing still.
Plus, I don't want to factory reset.
You are going to have to factory reset that is the fix. You might be able to fix it with clearing caches and davlik in twrp if that is applicable. But chances are factory reset will be the only thing that fixes it.

S10+ keeps randomly restarting, is there any way to find out what's causing it?

My phone sometimes restarts in its own, just randomly in the middle of something but not always the same thing either. Before I was just in the middle of writing a text and it just restarted.
I was wondering if there are any logs etc I could look at that would tell me what caused it to restart?
I want to avoid having to do a total wipe to fix it.
I have tried clearing the cache partition.
Any help would be great.
James
In Device Care theres a App Issue History, you can see if any apps have been crashing which may or may not be related.
It looks like what happened to me when I set a Private DNS.
