I(m currently switching between GSM and 3g - however i gprs seems to work fine for browsing however 3g does not seem to be working for browsing but ok for calls!! Im in the birmingham area where 3g coverage is normally superb - is anyone experiencing similar problems or know a possible way to resolve? I soft reset doesnt resolve the issue!
I am in T-Mobile UK and have no problems so sorry cannot offer advice - is surfing with GPRS OK? I have found T-Mobile customer support very good - give them a try. Their tech support people seem to know what they are talking about which is nice too - much different to O2. Good luck
PS - if not tried then take a look at the excellent plug-in by Daniel Herrero here. I doubt it will fix this problem but it saves lots of battery power and is very configurable.
I have exactly the same problem. 3g is really slow for surfing and GPRS is so much faster. In fact a lot of the the time on 3g I just get error messages saying the page is not available etc but if I then switch to GSM it loads in a second.
I have found something weird though: If I switch the phone off or go in to comm manager and switch the line connection off then try to surf or download on 3g it will not work.
If however, I switch the phone or the connection on then switch to gsm, and then to UMTS/3g it will surf on 3g.
For this I use Daniel Herrero's excellent program to fast switch.
but even this method sometimes doesn't work.
What I've resorted to is surfing on GPRS and when I need to download something, quickly switch (using Dan's Program) to 3g.
Am I right in thinking the no 3g connection after being switched on is a known issue with the Hermes?
HI JPHCCFC
Im in Birmingham on t-mobile and for the past two ...three days i to have had trouble connecting to the web or msn...very slow or no connection
Gavin
cheers for the info guys - im thinking that maybe its a 3g network error in the area - anybody who isnt experiencing problems in the birmingham area with 3g Data?
still no data 3g in the birmingham area....or is it my handset??? Gav1n how is your data 3g performing?
Im in manchester and i seem to have the same problem with 3g being much slower for browsing than the standard gprs
I'm getting the same issues in East surrey
phoned customer services they said they had no reported errors with the 3g network! they said try the sim swap with another tmobile sim to see if its the handset or network!
hi im still the same no 3G ....in brum (quinton) when i change the band to gsm every is thing is ok....its the same on my wifes phone ...so deff a t-moible thing...

3G connection issues on TMobile-Vario2
Dear all,
Appears the south-east also has the same type of connection issues. Everything appeared well until about 7-10 days back.
I e-mailed T-Mobile support and they advised that there were some network issues which could have impacted the service. I did notice that their on-line account services had also been upgraded around the same time period - maybe a coincidence - but every since then the phone doesn't seem to surf properly on the 3G service. AND, battery life goes down dramatically - I only now manage to get about a day's use out of the damn phone!
I've got a replacement battery from T-Mobile - but same thing happens. I think it's all inter-related!
So what's the solution anyone? 'cos I am getting rather hacked off with it all!
I'm getting hacked off with really bad now.
My grps is faster than 3g. Period. Regardless of reception. Anyone got a solution???
try disabling hsdpa with hermes tweaker and reboot your phone.make sure you are not connected to gprs while disabling it. it has solved my problems.
3G connection issues on TMobile-Vario2
Same here in the Canary Wharf area for the last 7-10 days. First I blamed my radio rom - I have upgraded to 1.34.00.10 when the problem started. But then I have also tried 1.27 and few older ones - all the same problem. Fast grps, but no 3G. The battery also dies quite fast on 3g, so I have now switched to GSM only. :-(
Don't know if any of you have done this already but I was having the 3G problems for a couple of weeks and battery was draining quickly, I phoned up T-Mobile and asked them if HSPDA was turned on on my account which it wasn't, since they turned it on the problems have disappeared and my connection speed is now at least 750 kbs.
3G issues
i have had my t-mobile for over a week now, but in the shop they said there was no 3G in edgbaston, birmingham but when i got it home i connected quite easily
3g dns failures
I have had a t-mobile vario 2 for the last 5 months. when I first got the phone I was excited to get the hsdpa activated and quickly phoned up tmobile and got through to a tech guy who activated it. I didnt really notice much speed improvement and tmobile only shows the 3g and not the h for hsdpa, but I was pretty happy with my speeds of around 70kbit/sec (tested through http://text.dslreports.com/myspeed?jisok=1). I downloaded fieldtest_157 which showed that I was connected to hsdpa but the values showed through hsdpa cqi status were very low.
About 1 month ago I was suddenly unable to go online whenever my phone went into 3g mode, my phone would show it connected but wouldn’t find any addresses. I was only able to when it switched to gsm. I phoned tmobile to get the problem fixed. they said it was a known issue with the phone and made me permenantly switch my phone to the gsm network. I was basically told that my phone does not support 3g and hangs on switching from gsm to 3g for no apparent reason and that they were working on the problem. they must have done something on their side because when I switched to phone back on to auto network switching, I got gsm and 3g connectivity and downloads but not hsdpa (checked with fieldtest_157)
next day because I was unhappy with the download speed I phoned tmobile and asked for hsdpa reactivation. the first level who answered made me hang on and reactivated hsdpa. same problem cant download except on gsm switch. rephoned tmobile and got through to another 2nd level tech guy and explained all my connection problems.he said that my phone had never been hsdpa connected and connected it for me. what do you know Im suddenly getting 950kbit/sec speeds and hsdpa cqi status shows all high teens or 20's. for some reason my battery is lasting allot longer and 5 months after getting the phone Im happy. moral of the story is to download fieldtest_157 from:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...e=Hermes_Utils
and check hsdpa status because either lots of bull is being told to tmobile customers or there are some pretty stupid people working there.
I was getting lots of dns failures (except in gsm) and getting really fraustrated. I was going to ask for deactivation of hsdpa. Luckily the technician I spoke to (about the tenth person in 3 days) that eventually got me connected, new his stuff. He tried to trick me into admitting that I was using my phone as a modem for my computer and only connected me after I denied it. after he changed something on his side, he made me pull out my battery and do a soft reset. Everythings now how I expected when I bought the phone. It might sound like conspiracy theory but I got the feeling that he only connected me when it sounded like I knew slightly more than the average Joe. My hsdpa connection has been faultless ever since. Getting consistently high speeds even with 1 bar. On 3g!!
I had low fieldtest numbers before my proper activation. now all much higher teens or twentys
keep phoning tmobile until the problem is fixed!! and speak to someone who doesnt have to read a set of respone instructions and has some real knowledge.
Hope this helps
Cheers craig
No 3G in Glasgow. Was fine until 7-10 days ago. Phoned T-Mobile and the guy said they knew of problems. Asked for HSDPA to be activated, he claimed to have done this but no difference. Another post implies that they might not actually enable HSDPA first time of asking.
I bought the phone for 3G. It clearly has nothing to do with the handset since it worked fine for 3 months. Can I make a claim against T-Mobile?
i activated HSDPA and this resolved the issue for me!
I got my G2 a couple days ago and I must say this phone is amazing..coming from a g1 I had for 2 years its quite an improvement. The only minor problem I'm experiencing is with the radio signal..most notably in my house..on my G1 I always had signal and internet connection. Now with the G2 I constantly loose connection all through out the house and the only way to get it back is to switch the airplane mode on and off and it picks it up right away, only to go away a few minutes later..I don't seem to have the problem anywhere else.
Was wondering if any of you guys can shed some light on if there is a way for me to figure out why the signal is so random in my house and it was ok with the G1. And why airplane mode seem to fix it for a short while.

I have the same issue, I disable/enable wifi to get reception back on...I initially had really good reception but as the days went by my reception varies a lot at my house

did u activate the sim card that came with the phone or still using the old one?
I'm still using the "old" one still but considering I got it 2 months ago I wouldn't think its a big deal unless the sim that comes with the G2 is any different?

I asked because i was told to activate the new sim card to avoid issues likes the ones u seem to be having.
I was told to replace the sim card as well. After doing so there was no change in the reception of the unit. The downside is that the sim card does fine in my Vibrant but does not work at all in My Nexus One. Tried two different new sim cards and each time the Nexus One refuses tacknowledge it while the G2 and Vibrant do. I have found no difference in signal quality or strength with the new sim. The new sim card has a much smaller gold contact area and that area is a slightly different shape,
I went ahead and activated my new sim card to see if maybe it'll fix the problem..ill let you guys know how it goes
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Changing the simcards will not work. If I put my simcard in my iPhone 3G or my G1, I'll have 2 or 3 bard with 3G, but with the G2, It switches up all the time, from Edge to 3G or no data at all, with 1 or 2 bars. I also have five other family members that also have T-Mobile phones and their getting about 4-5 bars on their phones. So it's not the sim or a tower issue.
There's cleary a problem with these phones.
This mourning I woke up and found the phone with no service, no bars. I reset it and came back, this afternoon I left the phone on my bed, came back to it, and again no service, it seems the service keeps going out for no reason.
Another is, I live in a big building, when walking in and out the building, my data connection will drop, or sometimes I won't even have any service, and again the only remedy is to restart the phone to get service back, airplane mode won't even fix it.
Yea the new sim hasn't really fixed anything at all..

damn i was about to try that... guess i'll keep waiting... maybe an OTA radio update will help this cause it's really getting annoying.
I don't have a problem with my G2 dropping signal completely, but I have noticed that my 3G is very spotty. It's probably because I was spoiled the the MyTouch Slide's 3G only option.
Yes, I've noticed that the signal isn't quite as good as my G1. It's seems to be about on par, if not slightly below my friend's Vibrant.
But remember, the G1's radio really sucked once upon a time. Radio updates. They will come. Every phone that has OTA updates always gets new radio, in my experience.
I'm on my 3rd G2, mostly for manipulating the purchase price, and have noticed on this 3rd one that the spring is looser than the first two, the phone resets itself and often, and I'll loose data even though it shows I'm connected. This will happen in edge or hspda. I'm taking the phone back tomorrow.
Crappy thing I just put the ZAGG complete invisi shield on it. WIll Zagg comp me another cover you think?
If only Tmobile would activate the UMA calling over wifi. This would be the perfect phone with perfect service.
I am going to call tmobile in the morning and see if I can get any word on the UMA release. If not, the phone may have to go back.
I'm having the same problem, not at my house but at a local ihop that happens to be walking distance from where I'm moving in a week. I tried a reboot, airplane mode, even pulled the sim card and nothing worked. I got signal back once I left, but since it's right by the new place I would like to not have to deal with this.

well ive been searching around and i think ive found something that could help..
if you dial *#*#4636#*#* you will get a little screen of information about your phone, go to phone information, under phone information scroll down until you see select network type, the network should be automatically set to "WCDMA preferred" ive been playing around and i set mine to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) and since then (about an hour roughly now) i havent lost my signal or connection in the same spot i was loosing it in my house every 10 minutes or so. not sure if this fixed anything but so far so good. definately will let you guys know if it continues to be good or if it doesnt stay consistent.
heres some information also in case you dont know which one would be best for you.
WCDMA preferred - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 3G is favored more.
GSM only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
WCDMA only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM auto (PRL) - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more. This one is a bit confusing to me since PRL is associated mostly with CDMA technology and not GSM technology.
CDMA auto (PRL) - The CDMA phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more.
CDMA only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
EvDo only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) - Some phones are equipped with both GSM and CDMA capabilities. This setting appears to just have the phone attempt to stay connected to the data communication type that works the best. (Maybe the Samsung Galaxy S will take advantage of this???)
Unknown - If none of the above fit or the phone is acting weird as far as connecting to the carrier, you will see your preferred network type is set to this

phone came in wcdma preferred stock... I came by that option too but I would much rather suffer with spotty signal [HSPA] over Slow edge speeds...
that said I may turn on GSM only when I'm indoors with little coverage, should save a lot of battery.
is there a setting that forces the G2 to go for the G3 or H setting instead of the edge? I live in an area where my phone can get both and it always goes for the edge signal instead of a weak H signal and the edge is soooo slowww.

*#*#4636#*#* then phone information, then scroll down and change the drop down from auto to wcdma only. Only problem with that is if u go to an area with no 3g, u get no service and have to change it back or go under the settings and wireless to enable 2g connections

I have problems, if it's 3G network or is computer problem.
I was not cut off calls and data transfers (always in 3G network). When setting only 2g network I have no problems ...
I can do? be my problem or phone company? 1 months ago that I suffer this problem almost since I bought the phone. You pass it 2 times for service, which updated the software but still the same.
I was told to ask for change for frequent failures, so try, but when I go to commercial office, leave the computer 6 hours and did not fail (according to them).
The strange thing is that my other times I go and is stuck ... out there think it's 3G network congestion, but I put the chip on another machine and doing well
That I can do? there will be some fix for this problem? (for me is the radio).
I hope your comment
Please help!!
I am really sorry for post duplicated, but I have only 5 days to return this phone which I absolutely love.
However this Internet issue is really bothering me.
I just bought my Mate 8 with build number NXT-L29C636B103, but I have been experiencing mobile data issues with my T-mobile carrier that only when I get 4G symbol, I can go online. Whenever I am getting either 3G or H+, I can not connect to internet at all.
I have tried my wife's T-mobile phone, at the same location, her phone will get 4G LTE, my phone will have 4G, whenever she is getting 4G, I am getting H+ or 3G, which I can not go online anymore but on her phone, it still works.
Is is because of the version of the Mate 8 I am getting or the setting is wrong, please help!!!!
Probably wrong settings. Check your apn. And also make sure your phone isn't set up to just LTE only in the phones hidden menu
Update the software also and then check access point settings and set manually.
I check the updater, but there is no new update at all.
About the APN, I have copied exactly the same setting as my wife's S6, but still this issue.
Basically, whenever I am getting 4G above the bar, I can go online, no problem at all. But whenever it comes 3G or H+, my internet completely dropped!
I don't have that problem on T-Mobile with the NXT-AL10. I can be on one bar of HSPA and go online. There are two things possible. You have a bad phone with a bad radio or T-Mobile is doing work in your area and that's why you have no internet on anything other than 4G. T-Mobile was like that in my area two years ago until they upgraded. I would think it's the service. Try turning off VOLTE and LTE Cat 6 CA and turn on Data Roaming and see if that fixes it.

I was actually trying to help out on this issue, on another forum as well. One thing we discovered is that the settings for LTE Cat 6 CA are not on the L29 model.
Dumb question but you aren't using a metal case are you? Any aluminum case will degrade wifi and LTE to the point where it might switch over to HSPA+ due to poor LTE reception.

I have the L29 model. On T-Mobile, I was getting 3 mbps down and 1.6 mbps up. So I tweaked it around and enabled Data Roaming. Now I am getting 15 down and 9 up. Much more reasonable.
Recently had a similar issue. I copied over the apn from a tmobile device and that was the issue.
Try the 2 apn setup that should be default when you reset apn.

Hello, i live in a relatively small town where my service provider has very poor 4G signal. but pretty good 3G signal. With the Axon 7 i have a lot of signal problems that i didnt have with any of my previous phones, where outdoor signal is pretty bad and indoor signal is almost unusable. It also connects almost exclusively to 4G, and in contrast all of my previous phones connected almost exclusively to 3G. Over the last weekend i traveled to a major city where my service provider has very strong 4G signal, and the signal problem was almost non existant. I even had signal in places where other people with the same service provider did not. So my theory is the following, assuming that the hardware (antenna) used for 4G and 3G is the same, it may not be a hardware problem, but a problem with the software having a hard time knowing which band/signal it should connect to. It seems that in my case it prioritizes 4G signal and the cost of a VERY unstable cellphone service. This is also assosiated with the fact that when it connects to 3G (incredibly rare), the phone goes inmediately from 1/2 bars to 4/5 bars. I also changed the SIM configuration to leave LTE out, but either for a visual bug or a software bug, it keeps connecting only to 4G. So could this be the problem that me and a lot of people in low 4G signal zones are having? Is there anyway i can force the phone to connect exclusivly to the 3G signal to test if that is indeed the problem?
Regards!

Without knowing which model Axon 7 you are using, where you are using it, and who your provider is, there is little anyone can do to help you. All I can say is that it helped me A LOT to go into settings and turn off
VoLTE.

U model last update, using it from Argentina, and the provider is Claro. I have LTE disabled in SIM confg as i already said and VoLTE turn of as well but the phone keeps connecting to 4G no matter what i do, even if i configure it to only GSM
I don't think its a matter of position or provider (version could be if different software is provided), but a general issue with the phone and band/signal interpretation coupled with the apparent innability to go off 4G
Refards!

ok when it connects to LTE it says "4G LTE". The 4G that you are getting is probably HSPA or something. And we had someone on here a few months back using Claro in Argentina and they had to seek answers from their Claro

If "4G LTE" is 4G and "4G" is HSPA, when only a "G" appears, what band am i connecting too? Its still pretty weird that im having major signal issues in my town, but when i go to a big city my signal is even better than other phones, it seems inconsistent with the whole "bad hardware" theory. I talked to Claro and it seemed like from their end it was a non issue, can you point me to the thread to see if he got it fixed somehow?

I'm always LMAO when I hear US people talking about that 4G scam (which is H+ for real btw)
G is for 2G
E is for 2G+
3G is 3G
H is 3G+
H+ is 3G++ (an intermediary protocol up to 42MBps)
4G is LTE (up to 150Mbps in the EU most of the time)
4G+ is LTE-A (which is available in most of the EU, SK & JP) - up to 600Mbps, 200MBps in most tests
I've not heard of an app that could modify the way the phone "clings" to 4G LTE, since that might likely be the modem firmware doing it on its own.

Then this is even weirder, because is G is not 3G, but 2G it means that the phone NEVER connects to the major band that all of my previous phones and Claro users connect to. Is there anyway to force to only connect to 3G?

i have the G european model, in my town i have bad lte signal 1/2bar, when with my previously xiaomi mi4c was got 4/5 bars (maximum). In the big town i have got in the most of cases 4/5 bars. I think the "signal problems" are relatives of a lack of somehow software. i told this because i've read with the china model with the last updates an improvement of the signal reception of the phone.

Then this is even weirder, because is G is not 3G, but 2G it means that the phone NEVER connects to the major band that all of my previous phones and Claro users connect to. Is there anyway to force to only connect to 3G?
Regards!

You can however force a specific protocol indeed, but you will lack the ability to autoswitch networks. Just download 4G LTE Switch (here) which is a glorified secret code dialer. Just click on prefered network and change at your convenience (4G LTE only, WCDMA only - H+ - and so on). Remember that if you force 4G LTE in an area in which you have no coverage, you won't have internet, and no 2G/3G fallback (so no texts, no calls)
I don't know if this is the same problem, but my wife has an iPhone 6+ and I have an A2017U on B29 stock root. We both use the same network (Movistar Mexico) and while her iPhone often registers LTE, my A7 often registers 4G or even E in the same place. The A7 is receiving the same bands but appears to be "choosing" or locking into the slower protocols more often.
EDIT: NEVER MIND… an xposed module was messing with my network settings. Fixed it. Now I get LTE right away.
