I have 2 Phones with 2 different google accounts:
S5 and S7 Edge
I have 2 Joying Head Units. Whenever I connect one of my phones to either headunit. My Contacts are deleted on the phone afterwards.
I use tasker on both phones to turn on tethering whenever connected to the headunits.
Anyone has an idea how I can fix this?
PS:
I am really pissed by now about these headunits. the DAB does not work one of them has a hiss when i play mp3s dab+ (just on fm there is no hiss)

You also replied in my review thread about this. Please forward this giant bug about the contacts to Joying and tell them this bug is over a year old.

No you can't. That's the big f*ck*** issue. It removes your contacts from your phone and your phone syncs the changes to your google account. Every single contact gone!
u can restore deleted contact on every gmail account.

Here we are over three years latter, brand new Joying Android 10 head unit just installed, and guess what, yep my contacts keep disappearing, and I keep having to restore them.
I will email Joying, but does anybody know what triggers it?
Doesn't seem to happen every time I use Bluetooth, so not quite sure when it happens.

Same here. But only happens with a newly paired Bluetooth phone. Once paired the contacts stays.
Yes I have just come across the same issue! I also have a Joying head unit. My contacts on a new phone all disappeared after the very first Bluetooth connection.
I suspect that it had to do with Android Auto, so I've turned off all the available switches on the AA on my phone to prevent it from starting. I've got 4G on my head unit so don't need AA at all. But of course, as you said, it happens only after the first connection, so maybe I'll have to wait until I get my next new phone to prove this!

It has nothing to do with Android auto, since it happens when not even being connected to it.
4 years later, and the issue still persists. Joying has no clue what happens.
What I wound up doing, was a sort of workaround, I went into the account settings on my radio and disabled contact sync just for the radio. I did go into the Google Contacts website and restored my contacts (AFTER I removed contact sync from my radio). Hope this helps you guys
Hi, I've been looking at upgrading my old KitKat joying head unit.
Last week I was told by Joying that google contact sync does not work (just like the old units)
In the old unit I needed to have TrueContacts installed.
Can you please confirm that google contact sync actually does work natively?
It would be really nice to names for incoming calls.
Thx

My Nexus pairs with our car (Audi) perfectly, all the phone numbers transfer exactly as they are in the phone book.
My wife's Nexus however transfers the numbers with dashes in the phone number (ie US format). When the car tries to dial she gets just part of the number eg 0123456789 might transfer as 012-345-6789 and dial as 012589 ... or something similar.
I have tried to go into keyboard locale and set it to UK.
I edited her google account to show in UK english (it was set US).
But the phone still hypenates every phone number. On the screen they read fine, it also has names in Surname / Forename order rather than forename / surname order.
Anyone any idea ?

Hi, any joy with this? Having the same problem with my Nexus One and Audi A3 (2009).
Tried to reset the pairing and still no joy...
Thanks for any help in advance!
Not sure how to fix your problem.. I just want to comment "you got a badass car"
got anymore pictures of it?
I haven't got an answer to this but I do have the same problem. It happens with the Garmin Zumo on my motorbike and the Parrott CK6100 in my car.
It doesn't seem to affect calling though so I haven't worried too much about it.

No I don't think so , I don't have Audi I transfer contacts to my Pioneer car audio system and I get the same problem. But there is another thing about this is he mentioned they don't have problem with one phone so maybe there is some internal setting which is different to the other phone
I hope someone could figure out the problem I have the same problem with my phone !!!
Its the same on the Moto defy
Im having the same issue with my Defy and my Audi A3 09 bluetooth kit. Numbers on the phone are fine but when synced with the car display in US Format.
I think its an issue with 2.1 not the Audi software as I sent a contact from my phone to a mate of mine via SMS and they got it in US Format also.
And there's some not so good news over here...
(Sorry can't post the link yet, but google "US Number format android bluetooth" should get a listing with bluetooth carkit syncing in wrong number format with Nexus one.
Upshot is its sorted in 2.2
Loveing the Defy and my switch from iPhone.

Hi all. I thought I would look for answer here in addition to the BMW forum.
I can pair and make calls with 2011 BMW.
However, when I accept permission to access phonebook, it attempts to download contacts unsuccessfully, then disconnects after 90 seconds and then reconnects, reattempts the download and the cycle repeats itself. If I deny access to the contacts, the connection remains solid. Unfortunately, I get an annoying connection prompt everytime I restart the car.
The first several times I did this, I permanently allowed access and then realized i had to unpair and start the process over without allowing phonebook access. The Bimmer was behaving so erratically that on a couple occasions when recycling the connection, it actually wiped all previously paired phones from the menu.
The connection is rock solid on Acura with both phonebook and message access.
Using mine on a 2014 BMW without issues here. Perhaps set visibility to always on. This help me with issues on an s4 and my car in the past.

Sounded reasoanable but didn' work. I even updated to BMW's latest software. Well, at least I have a reasoanble chance of full Bluetooth if I segue into a 2014 at the end of my lease.

I didn't have any issues with the F30 rental I had for two weeks. Which infotainment system is in your BMW? Do you have the enhanced Bluetooth with BMW apps? The vehicle I was in had the standard iDrive without BMW apps or enhanced Bluetooth. I did notice it made separate entries in the phonebook for each contact's various numbers(cell, home, work, etc.), which was a bit annoying.
I've noticed in my Miata the Bluetooth connection will remain open, the word "phone" remains on the radio's screen and I can't change to the radio or any other input until I've powered the phone off and on.
With UConnect in the 2014 Grand Cherokee the vehicle would lose pairing with my phone every time I shut the vehicle. A UConnect software upgrade took car of this.

I have the iDrive and updated to the latest Bluetooth software. Behavior is really strange. It asks me first if I want to download messages. If I check no, it usually asks a second time. If I check yes, it uploads messages to iDrive but still doesn't misbehave. If I check yes and also check the ALWAYS box, it usually starts to update the phonebook and that's when the predictable cycle starts of 90 seconds attempting to download the phonebook unsuccessfully, then disconnect and reconnect. And of course, it begins again when I restart the car. The only solution at that time is to unpair, pair again and deny phonebook access.
This is exactly the problem I have with my 2011 BMW 335d with idrive. It could be because the 4.0 Bluetooth on my LG G2 is doesn't want to play nice with the car's older software version. I have tried everything you mentioned and have not had any luck either. I have just learned to press the NO button 6 times every time I start the car, and manually enter names & numbers into the car's phone book that I use frequently.

Same issue here. I however am having the issue on a 2014 Ram with the Uconnect 8.4a infotainment system. It only seems to be an issue with AOSP roms, I've installed several and they all have this issue. I didn't have it with the stock based roms.

When I originally had the problems connecting I was on a stock-based ROM. I was going to try an AOSP ROM when Kat Kat came out, but unfortunately I bricked my LG G2 trying to update. I ended up getting an HTC One (M8) that is still unrooted but the phone pairs and my contacts sync. Although it refuses to recognize the phone for BT music streaming, I'm happy with it's performance so far.
There are some very old threads about this - but this is now, pretty certainly, a general stock android 4.3/4 problem with "older" car hands-free systems. My kit is a Galaxy Note with OmniROM right up to date. My car is an Opel/Vauxhall Zaphira with a Navi 900 onboard computer. However there are threads on many android forums complaining of the same symptoms for "pure" stock 4.3/4 devices (e.g. the Nexus range, including the Samsung Galaxy Nexus) and a variety of cars, and all describing the same workaround (and a few lamenting that Google haven't been very responsive in addressing the problem). The symptoms and workaround are:
The car recognizes and "partially" pairs with the phone
However, the contacts list and call lists are empty and the phone cannot be controlled from the car, neither for incoming calls nor for outgoing calls (dialing from the car interface always gives a failed message, while trying to receive or hangup from the interface just plain fails).
Calls using the phone work, and show up on the car interface, always as "Unknown" (not surprisingly - it doesn't have the contacts list)
HOWEVER if, after this "partial" pairing up, I make a 30-45 second call using just the phone itself, then, after the call has terminated, contacts and call lists are properly available through the car interface and the phone can be fully controlled from that interface (and, of course, the FIRST time this happens, I get the notification on the phone telling me the car wants this information, which, of course, I confirm)
A workaround like that can be scripted with something like "Tasker" and using, say, my voice mail number (with my provider here in France, plain fake number calls don't stay online long enough for the above to work).
But does ANYONE have any idea where to start looking for the root cause and possible solutions, or have any theories on those points?
EDIT:
Just to be clear - the workaround "make a call from the phone" trick has to be done every time the phone and car reconnect, not just the first time.
Had this happen in my ford the other day and it's sync system.
The fix for me was a not so visible notification upon establishing the Bluetooth pairing in the notification tray asking if I wanted to allow for my phonebook to be downloaded. Clicked yes and everything set up as normal.

I got that notification AFTER I had done the "make a call from the phone" trick, not before.
I should also point out that the "make a call from the phone" trick has to be done every time I want to reconnect to the phone to the car (while the notification only appeared the first time I did the trick - because subsequently the phone and the car "trust" each other).
Aside from maybe unpairing and trying to set it up again which I am certain something you've probably already tried; have you checked the cars firmware?
Could also try resetting your Vauxhall's system as well in case there is a gremlin in there causing a hang up with the sync.
Again with Fords sync I have had to do it a few times over the years when the systems been misbehaving with the Bluetooth and it fixed it.

Indeed I did the resets. And yes, possibly, an upgrade of firmware MIGHT fix it, but these problems don't occur with Android 4.1.n (or, I, believe 4.2.n).
I've logged a bug with the OminROM developers, but would like some pointers so I myself can start looking at solutions and fixes.
Hmm... Unfortunately I don't know who to assign that JIRA bug to.
Problem is - none of us own vehicle headunits that we can reproduce/test this problem on. I used to have a Sony MEX-BT2500 (technically I still do...) but since I sold my old convertible it just sits and collects dust.
I would agree that this will be a difficult one to find. It reminds me of working with 802.11b/g with it's dozens of "pre-draft" variants that just didn't interoperate properly.
If you wanted to dig into this yourself, the first place I'd look is https://github.com/omnirom/android_external_bluetooth_bluedroid and its upstream and parallel variants. That is the code that generally handles the upper-level Bluetooth management functions.
Edit -- Also worth looking at https://source.android.com/devices/bluetooth.html if you want an overview of how Android implements Bluetooth.
The comments on commits there might also be worth reading through. For example
https://github.com/omnirom/android_...mmit/73ce8ab2ddd30cab6499d0062c46b3a16f9130a9
Fact is however, that the use of SDP features value for peer_features
is new since Android 4.2 and breaks existing good behavior on a BMW
2005/E46 car kit (navi professional). This kit never asks for AT+CHLD
and never via AT commands suggests it supports 3WAY (although it seems
to have the flag set via SDP).
Not the same issue, but there might be clues of that nature in the commit messages.
Ok so I have a 4.4.4 Pumpkin head unit and all stock so far.
I have a ROMed Galaxy S4, I have only a bluetooth connection in the car between the two devices.
I would like to somehow get the SMS on the phone and also be able to read it on the car head unit and respond via head unit?
Which app would suffice?
Would I need to have other connection between the two devices, if so which one?
Thanks
Try "Yaata" on your phone, it has a setting where it can read out the text messages when hooked up to Bluetooth which means hooked up to your car head unit it will actually say everything that comes in
With my back to the rise I'll make my stand

I believe this would require you to have the bluetooth app loaded and running to hear it, but I might be wrong.
I solved this problem with Pushbullet, but it requires some sort of tethered internet connection .

I upgraded back to the full version, and don't see that option. Is that just in the pro version?
In my version 17.7.9, (called "Pushbullet - SMS on PC" in the store,) if I click the 'hamburger' menu, then click SMS, I am presented with some option switches which include 1) "SMS Sync" and 2) "Show SMS notifications from other devices on this device." Enable both on your phone, then do the same on your head unit.
Tablet Talk would do exactly this. I use it to do this exact thing over bluetooth between my phone and my tablet so I can respond to SMS, etc without taking my phone out and just using my tablet.

That looks very promising, gonna check it out. I'd rather not rely on tethering and cloud services.
Hi all,
Happy New year
I see this has been asked lots before, but I haven't as yet found a simple easy solution. Has anyone ?
I want to access my sms / email from head unit over bluetooth ideally. Headers/ notifications would be nice too.
I thought about using a bigger device such as a tablet, but would have much the same issues Plus charging, storage etc.
Wont be used when driving but when I pull up and go through them and can respond. So not really interested in apps that read them as they come in.
Head unit is a new px5 erising, mtce running android 8 untouched. Works great as is.
Phone is stock S6, android 7. un-rooted. NO usb port. (can only charge wireless)
Happy to install any apps as needed.
I have tried several apps, such as botifier, btnotifier, carmode, easyconnection, hotspot control, several smart 'device' syncs and havent got any to work. Sounds easy but have a couple issues. I dont always have data on as on payg, as most apps seem to want.
Plus not keen on google apps reporting my every whereabouts so dont have Android Auto, telling google execs what colour pants i'm wearing to sell data to advertisers to hound me..
2nd I dont fancy turning on hotspot and messing around to pair up wifi. with every journey (although I have considered getting a small AP, router for the car for both devices to connect to and thus be on the same local wifi network if that helps.)
I'm aware there are about 15 different protocols for it to work on BT which is a p.i.t.a that I dont know which I have on either device. I dont (need to) play music or do anything else from phone.
So is there an android app yet that installs whats needed and just does the simple job of remotely without fuss or needing several trips round the moon to display / reply to my sms texts on my head unit while phone is in my pocket?
Thank you.
