Firmware abbreviation meaning - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could some one give a clue how to decipher abbreviation of Build Number in Motorola's firmware name?
There a few for example:
LPKS23.229-1-5 — Chinese Moto X Pole
MPKS24.107-54-6 — International Moto X Force
NCK25.118-10.5 — Verizon's Droid Turbo 2
First letter, obviously name of Android — Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat... etc. Last one letter is Security.
But what about two letters in a middle? My guess second is Carrier in case of Verizon, but I'm not sure...

Little History of the Device
We know as late as mid-August Google was testing a 5.2" 1440p Snapdragon 805 Nexus 6 variant with 3GB RAM, made by Motorola. We saw the leaked benchmarks. After August, all evidence of a 5.2" Nexus 6 model disappeared. Google decided to release only one new Nexus phone, the 5.9" version.
But instead of being released as a Nexus, Motorola released that 5.2" phone as the Droid Turbo (Verizon)/Moto Maxx.
The shared specifications of these devices are the following:
SYSTEM: Near-stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat (TESTING ANDROID L 5.0.2 RIGHT NOW ON MOTO MAXX)
SCREEN: 5.2-inch QHD AMOLED (2,560 x 1,440 pixels, 565 ppi)
PROCESSOR: Quad-core Snapdragon 805, quad-core, 2.7 GHz, Adreno 420 GPU
RAM: 3 GB
INTERNAL MEMORY: 32/64 GB
BATTERY: 3,900 mAh
QI WIRELESS CHARGING
QUALCOMM CHARGE 2.0 UP TO 8 HOURS OF BATTERY CHARGING IN 30 MINUTES
CAMERA: 21 MP (rear), 1.3MP (front)
CONNECTIVITY: LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0
DIMENSIONS: 73.3 x 143.5 x 11.2mm (Ballistic Nylon)/73.3 x 146.5 x 10.6mm (Metalized Fiber)
WEIGHT: 176 g (Ballistic Nylon)/169 g (Metalized Fiber) 184 g
PRICE: $599.00 USD (base model)/ $8999.00 MXP

CARRIER AND BOOTLOADER COMPATIBILITY
So if you are on USA my advice its to get an US MOTO MAXX to get unlocked bootloader, root and LTE compatibility on major carriers.
WHERE TO GET DROID TURBO/MOTO MAXX
DROID TURBO: http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/droid/
US MOTO MAXX: (sellers recopilation by chazzmatt) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58865000&postcount=197
INTERNATIONAL MOTO MAXX and MOTO TURBO: Int Moto maxx its currently being sold on Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brasil, Chile and india, you can look for it in motorola's page for each country ( motorola.com.mx , motorola.com.br , motorola.com.pr, motorola.com.cl )
I think its pretty Clear in this table which version of moto maxx and droid turbo work in each carrier and if they can be unlocked or not, if you have any questions about this please post.
Special thanks to @ChazzMatt for the little history text.

Moto maxx has been finally released on the Mexican carrier TELCEL i saw it yesterday on a store hope more people get to know this awesome device
I have been searching everywhere. Were you able to find a definitive confirmation that the XT1250 is unlockable and works on Verizon? Screenshots, videos, personal testing? The only thing that I can find is that one person partially attempted to do both, but didn't actually do it.

because the xt1250 runs mostly on CDMA networks by small carriers on USA, and beign carrier unlocked, works with verizon, about the bootloader, i trust the guy who said that he was able to unlock the bootloader according to motorola's unlocking site, but he did not want to because warranty issues, and if one model can be bootloader unlocked all can
I hope device come for more countrys
Does anyone know if any of the small carriers that have the xt1250 will allow you to purchase and ship the phone from a place outside of their local network? (For example I'm in Texas and would use it on Verizon)

Thank you, @Jaocagomez.
The only additional info I would add is:
1) Chile is also one of the Latin American countries where the XT1225 is sold. Was released there after Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico.
http://www.motorola.cl/consumers/view-all-mobile-phones/Moto-Maxx/moto-maxx-cl.html
2) It's worth repeating that all the Moto Maxx/Droid Turbo models are "Quark" Motorola phones with identical hardware specs (display, resolution, RAM, cameras, CPU, GPU, turbo charging, Qi wireless charging, battery, etc), except for internal memory storage (32GB or 64GB). The "international" XT1225 only comes in 64GB with ballistic nylon back.
3) The U.S. XT1250 "Moto Maxx" and XT1254 "Droid Turbo" are identical except for carrier-specific software -- both have CDMA/GSM/HSPA/LTE bands. They both have the same FCC ID number. The "Droid Turbo" is just the Verizon "Moto Maxx" with a locked bootloader. ("Droid" is a name licensed to Verizon by LucasArts which they can slap on any phone they wish. Verizon chose to call their locked down version Droid Turbo, instead of Moto Maxx.)
4) The XT1225 has LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17 even though the official specs only list 2, 3, 4, 7, 17. When it passed through the FCC it had LTE band 5 (used on AT&T), and QPST/nv browser shows it's still there and enabled. But since the XT1225 was aimed primarily at the Latin America market, where LTE band 5 is not used, Motorola left it off the specs listing. Apple did something similar with the iPhone in 2012, having TWO extra LTE bands enabled that were not mentioned in the "official" specs.
The XT1225 has a different FCC number from the XT1250/XT1254.
5) All the XT1225 phones sold in all the various countries are the same. They all have the same FCC ID number. Why did the XT1225 go through the FCC? Because Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory. Listing an FCC number on a phone in Brazil or Mexico doesn't carry the force of law in the U.S., but listing it on the XT1225 in Puerto Rico does carry the force of law for Motorola. But since it's listed on ALL the XT1225 boxes, wherever sold, it's the same phone across all countries.
6) For people wanting to buy the XT1225 in the 50 states of the USA, you can try eBay or Swappa. There were several Puerto Rico dealers selling them. It's U.S. territory and can be shipped via U.S.P.S. Priority Mail with tracking number. Just make sure they unlock the phone for you or provide the unlock code, as in Puerto Rico the Moto Maxx is only sold in Claro stores not through the Motorola website.
My Mexico Moto Maxx XT1225 was bought straight from Motorola Mexico website (through the help of @Jaocagomez) and came unlocked for all carriers from the factory, but my Puerto Rico Moto Maxx XT1225 was unlocked by the eBay dealer who shipped it to me. Otherwise would have stayed locked to Claro.
Thumb Cellular
Just a follow up. It looks like Thumb will sell you a phone and ship outside of their area. You have to buy it at full price, and they will not offer you a return on it, so the sale would be final.
Another follow up.
I've just about called every CDMA provider on the wikipedia list to get more information about this phone and whether or not you can buy it. For the most part no one will sell it unless you buy it in the store or you ship it within their service area. (Except as I mentioned above Thumb who will sell it and ship it no returns, no warranty).
I was able to find out that, according to the rep from Pioneer Cellular, the model number for the XT1250 is MOTO GXP1031.
A few of the carriers are looking into more information for me and are supposed to call me back. I'm trying to track down who their vendors are. It seems none of them are buying this phone directly from Motorola.

That's interesting. So Motorola is selling this phone to some wholesalers, who are reselling it to regional carriers?
I know Motorola calls it the XT1250. I've seen it listed several places, just like the XT1225 -- like battery back covers on AliExpress. So, that other model number must be that carrier's product code, not Motorola's? Or the wholesaler's code?

If you get one of these XT1250 Moto Maxx, do you have a Verizon nano SIM card to put in? For an account already activated? If not, get a SIM card cutter.
Because Verizon will lie to you and tell you it won't work. You have to get a nano SIM card without them knowing about it. Best way is to cut already-activated micro SIM card down, if you don't already have a nano size.
Wow this is great news! I've been waiting for this device to come to ATT (under the rumored Moto Play name) but you're saying it's technically already available? So I can buy the XT1250 and I'll get full LTE speed on ATT? If so I might just get this...
Two questions:
1. What's your opinion on the speed of Motorola updating these phones? I know that due to their close relationship with Verizon they get it first usually, but because these have to be approved by handfuls of non major carriers do you think it'll be much slower? Will it matter which of these carriers I buy the phone from then?
2. Because these are not bought from Verizon or directly from Motorola Store, will Motorola still offer the one free screen replacement if broken within first year is ownership?
Thanks for your help

The "international" XT1225 Moto Maxx would be better for AT&T. Has all the AT&T LTE bands. Official specs say LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 7, 17 but really has 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17. AT&T uses 2, 4, 5, 17.
eBay or Swappa is your friend.
Here's some recent speeds on AT&T GoPhone with one of my two XT1225 Moto Maxx phones:

I do have a Verizon SIM, but it is for my Galaxy S3. I'll either cut and sand it, or go to a Verizon store and tell them I bought a phone on ebay and need a new nano SIM. I'm still holding off on getting the phone from Thumb until I know more about everything. Hopefully I can track down a vendor or a better source to buy the phone (one that will offer a return policy).

I'm also assuming the phone from Thumb is 32GB correct? I've reached out to several of those carriers as well and have not identified one that sells a 64GB XT1250. I also have not confirmed that one exists!
btw on Verizon I would also expect that Softcard would not work but would be willing to lose it in order to show if it doesn't work on XT1250 with the VZW ISIS app. Also I have not heard of anyone with software updates to the XT1250 to either enable video calling or VoLTE (HD voice or Simultaneous voice/data). Would anyone expect carrier updates or updates direct from Moto or to only be able to hope firmware from XT1254 can be dissected from an OTA?
Whew that's a lot

With an unlocked bootloader on the XT1250, I wonder if you could flash firmware from XT1225 (if you want 5.0.2 sooner) or XT1254 (if you want VOLTE from VZW) and have everything still work okay. When I had a VZW Moto X (XT1060) Developer Edition with an unlocked bootloader, firmware from other Ghost variants worked just fine (e.g., T-Mobile's 4.4.3 build released before Verizon's eventual skip to 4.4.4). If XT1225,XT1250, and XT1254 are all quark boards, think this could work?
I would love to sell my XT1254 and pick up the XT1250 if it meant getting xposed back... I'd even be fine with Verizon's firmware with 4.4.4+VOLTE+Xposed and waiting for the XT1254 to get 5.0.2 w/ VOLTE since flashing the XT1225 lollipop build would result in loss of VOLTE and thus simultaneous voice+data.

Just got this email so it doesn't even matter:
What does that mean for you? As of 3/31 your Softcard app will no longer work. You can continue to use the Softcard app until 3/31. After that your Account will be closed.
Wonder if we get another OTA to remove the app.
It would be so cool if the phone had LTE band 20 enabled.
I'm hoping Moto will release another phone at some point that is not close to 6" and supports band 20
i hope some mod can sticky this thread, there were like 30 threads in Q&A and general asking this information

I ended up waiting cause I wanted to make sure everything would work, but never really saw anyone that got into detail what they could and couldn't do with the phone.
Then they released mofo, so I'm just getting it from Verizon now I think.

Unlockable Next-Gen Moto Devices

So a new line of phones is on the way, im just wondering what you guys think, will they ALL be locked down for us on VZW? or do you think theres any hope for a Dev Edition Droid or X? Maybe get lucky with something unbranded like the xt1250? Will hell freeze over and VZW will allow OEM unlock?
Basicly the question is there ANY hope for those who like Moto, VZW, and Unlocked phones?
if history is any indicator, there is close to zero hope outside a Nexus phone.

For the upcoming 2015 models, let's look at recent history of last year's models...
Something like the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 (same device, same FCC ID as the Verizon Droid Turbo which PROVES it's the same device; same CDMA/GSM/HSPA/LTE bands as the Droid Turb XT1254 -- but with unlock-able bootloader) will show up on the smaller, regional CDMA/LTE carriers.
These are actual standalone carriers, with their own spectrum -- NOT Verizon MVNOs. But they have roaming agreements with Verizon, and share in Verizon's hardware portfolio but their models are sold under different names/model numbers. However, these devices are IDENTICAL to the Verizon models, due to having the same FCC ID. That's all the proof you need.
The Verizon fanbois will be reluctant to admit it will exist because they like the believe the "exclusive" marketing LIES by Verizon. (Nothing about the Droid Turbo was exclusive to Verizon, except the "Droid" name -- because it's licensed by Verizon from Disney/LucasArts. Even the "Turbo" name was used by Motorola for another Quark phone.) This marketing lie was repeated verbatim by lazy bloggers/U.S. tech media who care more about Apple farts than anything Android-related.
These upcoming devices will work on the Verizon network just like a non-Verizon Nexus 6 -- and just like the XT1250 does.
When you find this device -- whatever the alternative model number/name is -- and buy it you will have to ensure it's unlocked from the carrier it's bought from since you will be paying full price. Again, this device will work on the Verizon network just like a non-Verizon Nexus 6. But it will be there -- just like the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 is available for anyone who wants a "dev" edition of the XT1254.
The U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 is not to be confused with the International Moto Maxx XT1225 and Moto Turbo XT1225 (see even the Turbo name is not exclusive), which are also Moto Quark phones but do not have CDMA bands enabled, and have a slightly different mix of LTE bands. All the XT1225 models are the same device, in spite of having two model names (Moto Turob and Moto Maxx). Same FCC ID across all regions, same SKU.
See, there were basically two Motorola Quark phones -- with two different FCC IDs -- released under THREE model names:
FCC ID IHDT56PK1:
XT1254 U.S. Droid Turbo/XT1250 U.S. Moto Maxx (identical device, CMDA/GSM/HSPA/LTE bands -- except for model name). The XT1250 will run on Verizon, with a Verizon SIM card. This device has LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 7, 13 enabled.

FCC ID IHDT56PK2:
XT1225 "international" Moto Turbo/XT1225 "international" Moto Maxx (identical device, GSM/HPSA/LTE bands, except for model names). This LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17 enabled.
Of the two Quark models -- released under three models names (Moto Maxx, Moto Turbo, Droid Turbo) -- only the one with the model name "Droid Turbo" has locked down bootloader. The XT1250 U.S. Moto Maxx is basically the "dev" version of the XT1254 "Droid Turbo" if you can get your hands on it. (unlock-able bootloader, can be easily rooted, TWRP installed, etc.)
I don't see why that would change for upcoming models. You just have to research and find what you need.
This has been the pattern the past few years, and I don't see why it would change, especially since Verizon can no longer lock out non-Verizon devices due to FCC agreement. They don't have to "activate" those devices, but if you swap in an already-activated SIM card will work just fine. Just like the non-Verizon Nexus 6.

this is exactly why im asking. im moving cross country in about a month going through several of these local carrier areas, so ill be able to go in to one of there physical stores a buy a XT1250 soon. but now with the new motos coming out im wondering if i should hold off.
I've had 4 VZW Android phones. The Turbo is the only one, so far, with a bootloader that can't be unlocked for free.
Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Yes, all of the Verizon bootloader will be locked. Seems like a silly question.
Whether that will by bypassed or cracked is another story. Although bootloader unlocking is getting extremely difficult, so is very unlikely.
Obviously root is still a possibility though.

Is not a silly question at all. In fact yours was a silly (and wrong) reply.
1. I'm sending this message now from my xt1080m dev edition and official Verizon device with a oem unlockable bootloader.
2. The nexus 6 is currently available from Verizon. Oem unlockable.
3. Next gen moto x's were just announced to be universal (none carrier specific), and unlockable.
It's a brave new world.

But for the next gen Moto X, you will have to buy a non-Verizon model straight from Motorola website. Fantastic you will be able to do that but means Verizon still has not changed their "lock the bootloader!" ways. It's just that they can no longer block non-Verizon branded devices from connecting to their LTE network if those devices are compatible. (like a non-Verizon Nexus 6 or a U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 -- same device as the Droid Turbo.)
Motorola gladly unlocked ALL Quarks, except for the Verizon branded one, because Verizon would not let them. To this day, Verizon will not let them unlock the XT1254, even though the XT1250 (sold by smaller regional CMDA/LTE carriers) is IDENTICAL and runs on Verizon with a Verizon LTE card. The XT1250 can be unlocked because Verizon has no control over it.
Yes there are a few exceptions - nexus 6 for example.
All of the Verizon branded, non-nexus non-developer edition phones will continue to have locked boot loaders. Period.
So for Verizon, get a Nexus, developer, or 'pure' device if you want an unlocked bootloader.
So I stand by my original statement, just with a few qualifications.

The XT1250 can be unlocked because Verizon has no control over it.

yes, you need to look forward, cuz those days might be over. Motorola is spitting in the carriers faces and if it is profitable to them the rest for the companys will copy it. just like everything thing else in the cellular industry. the days of service providers pretending to be software developers is ending. and not a moment to soon
IMO unless Google changes their policy, I'd not expect Verizon or AT&T offering unlockable devices (that are not Nexus nor developer edition). Both cases generally have a workaround though; AT&T will work with any GSM phone that has the right bands (aka XT1225) and Verizon will work with an active 4G SIM also with a phone that has the right bands (aka XT1250). So what you simply need is to have a non-Verizon or non-AT&T version, that's it.

And Verizon fanbois don't believe the marketing hype about "exclusive" devices for Verizon. For the Droid Turbo XT1250, the only thing exclusive was the "Droid" name. The exact same device with the exact same FCC ID was sold with the exact same specs and bands by other U.S. CDMA/LTE carriers as the XT1250 (U.S. Moto Maxx).
Motorola even used the "Turbo" part of the name for the Moto Turbo XT1225, which was a Quark sibling.
When Verizon says you can only buy the "Droid Turbo" at Verizon, they mean you can only buy the "tramp stamped" version at Verizon. You can buy the same phone elsewhere under a different name, with the same FCC ID -- with unlockable bootloader. The OTHER phone is actually a better phone!
By the way, for those looking for 64GB Moto MAXX XT1250, this CDMA/LTE carrier in Oklahoma seems to have one:

One other carrier listed a 64GB months ago, but when people called to buy it, they were told it was an error in the website listing, that they only had 32GB in stock. So, confirm before you buy.
moto x play (style everywhere else in world) will be compatible with att, tmobile and verizon and will come directly from motorola.
to avoid all this carrier mess we have with locked bootloaders, motorola has listened.
check the networks:

off course will be bootloader unlockable.

This, i might be interested if they release an international bootloader free variant of it.
They won't. The international version will be the 'Play' model - which won't be the exact same as the Turbo 2 like the Turbo/Maxx were.

Current rumors are the Droid Turbo 2 will NOT be based on the Play model. You are thinking of the Droid Maxx 2, which will be the mid-tier 2015 Droid model.
Looks like Verizon will have two Droid models this year. (Not that I care about Verizon, but I have the international version of the Quark running on AT&T and am curious about the successor model.)
The top-tier model will be code name "Bounce" to replace the "Quark". Droid Turbo 2 for Verizon and Moto X Force for international. It will have a slightly smaller size (5.43") than the X Play (5.5") and yet have a larger battery. And it should still have unlock-able bootloader. No reason for it not to have it.
To be released in December, will probably have Android 6.0 Marshmallow already installed.
Current leaks show at least one variant that looks like dark blue Ballistic Nylon? (which in the Quark was really ballistic nylon + kevlar.)
http://www.mnrdaily.com/article/mot...eaks.to.come.out.in.different.colors/3705.htm
Motorola has already released two new smartphones under the Moto X series namely the Moto X Play and Moto X Style. Motorola is expected to market these devices in various regions across the world in different names and possibly with some unique feature for a particular region. There were rumors earlier of Motorola launching a new smartphone by the end of the year that would be called as Moto Bounce.
But yesterday, new reports claimed that the rumored Moto Bounce smartphone would be launched as the Moto X Force, which would be a shatterproof handset. Serial tipster @upleaks had posted an unofficial press render of the Moto Bounce, which he claimed would arrive in the market as the Moto X Force.
This time, @upleaks has posted a second series of renders that depicts the Moto X Force in three color variations available for the back cover. The Moto X Force is expected to be highly resistant to impact and shocks, and is considered to be shatterproof.
In terms of design, the Moto X Force appears similar to the Moto X Play, but is expected to arrive with different specifications. The Moto X Force will feature a 5.43 inch QHD display and will be powered by QUALCOMM's Snapdragon 810 processor, paired with 3GB of RAM. The Moto X Force will be available in 32GB and 64GB variants of on-board storage, and will sport a 21MP rear camera along with a 5MP front facing camera. The handset will pack a 3760mAh battery and is likely to run on Google's latest Android operating system.
The rumored specifications list suggests that the Moto X Force will be superior to the Moto X Style in terms of processor and battery size, and will have a smaller screen size, though the QHD display will deliver a better viewing experience.

The mobile device will also include a 3,760mAh battery. (Because the Quark's 3900 mAh was too much?) To be released in December, the Moto X Force will probably come running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box.
If the leaked images are to be believed, then the upcoming handset will have two speaker grills at the bottom of the display screen.

http://phandroid.com/2015/09/04/mot...posed-again-shows-off-mysterious-new-sensors/
Late last evening, @Upleaks returned with a handful of new press renders, this time of the phone prominently displayed in white, along with red, white, and blue color options (‘Merica). The best part about the newly leaked white color is we get a much better look at Motorola’s strange sensors. You can see the dots — which are the same IR sensors that come on the Moto X Style — but what’s really interesting is the elongated ones which definitely aren’t speakers/mic... why wouldn’t they use the same grill as the top of the phone?.
So, what exactly are they? We have no clue. We’re hoping that huge chin bezel serves more purpose than simple hand gestures, perhaps hiding a fingerprint reader underneath. We saw Qualcomm experimenting with this technology back during Mobile World Congress, so it’s not too far fetched an idea.
One thing we want to point out on the leaked backs are the different accent colors surrounding the camera module. This could be a hint that the phone will also be available on Moto Maker for buyers to customize. We’ll keep our fingers crossed. As it stands, we’re going to hold off on all these new Androids until Motorola can at least make this device official. Don’t want to make any hasty decisions.

Subversions ??
When further searching about versions I found there are kind of, sub versions to each versions as follows. But I am not sure how to differentiate each. Some of them we can make out from the name, like the name of carrier. But some of them are more cryptic, or at least to me. It will be helpful if any one can point out what each of the m means. Bets on when turbo will get Android M

It seems that Motorola will be releasing Android M for the turbo relatively quickly, but that doesn't mean Verizon will take any less than a decade to approve and push it out to devices. Anyone want to place bets on when we will actually get the update?
(I'm guessing four to five months)
3 months before "N"... like the Droid Turbo got Lollipop (July) 3 months before Marshmallow was released (October).
5 Internets and a dozen cookies on Verizon letting the turbo die on lollipop.
My vote is beginning of the first quarter.
I think we get it in may or June. I have no confidence in the new moto nor do they have a good track record.

Good guess, I'm thinking Spring sometime too based on the update history of the other Droids
I'm not sure if you have noticed, but EVERY carrier section has a thread about how their carriers are always last to get updates (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc). If you don't believe me, go check out the other sections.
Verizon is actually one of the fastest to send out updates for a phone that is available across all carriers. It's just the Droid Turbo that was late with the L update. We can't say Verizon was last for the update as it was a Verizon exclusive phone....
According to Motorola, we are slated for the update around same time as the Moto devices. Based on that alone, we should be getting M soon as Moto X has a record of being updated fairly quickly.

It wasn't an exclusive phone. The name only was exclusive, and even then only the "Droid" part (because Verizon owns the rights). Moto used "Turbo" for another Quark too (Moto Turbo XT1225). Don't drink the Koolaid.
XT1250 U.S. Moto Maxx is the exact same phone as the XT1254, exact same FCC ID, exact same bands, works on Verizon with a Verizon SIM card -- just like a non Verizon Moto Nexus 6.
Many people bought them as it was basically the "dev" version of the XT1254 with unlock-able bootloader.
Moto released two Quarks under 3 model names. The XT1250 and XT1254 are identical in every way, except the Verizon branded one has a locked bootloader.
The XT1250 is sold by various regional CDMA/LTE carriers in the U.S.. Same FCC ID.
The XT1225 is sold in other countries and has exact same hardware specs as the XT1254/1250, but does not have CDMA. Just like non Verizon variants of the 2014 Moto X doesn't have CDMA and will have slightly different LTE bands. They're all the same phone. There was no "exclusive". And the XT1250 is the exact clone of the XT1254, including the bands.
The XT1225 got Lollipop in March, by the way.

The XT1250 Moto Maxx is IDENTICAL to the XT1254 Verizon Droid Turbo -- same FCC ID, same bands, same specs -- except it has an unlock-able bootloader. The XT1250 is basically the "dev" version of the Droid Turbo. You can unlock the bootloader, install TWRP recovery, root, etc.
______________
All the XT1225 models are the same device, in spite of having two model names (Moto Turbo and Moto Maxx).
__________
FCC ID IHDT56PK2:
XT1225 "international" Moto Turbo/XT1225 "international" Moto Maxx (identical device, GSM/HPSA/LTE bands, except for model names). No CMDA. This LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17 enabled.
________
Of the two Quark models -- released under three models names (Moto Maxx, Moto Turbo, Droid Turbo) -- only the one with the model name "Droid Turbo" has locked down bootloader.
The XT1250 U.S. Moto Maxx is basically the "dev" version of the XT1254 "Droid Turbo" if you can get your hands on it. (unlock-able bootloader, can be easily rooted, TWRP installed, etc.)
FYI: in the U.S., due to the American Disability Act (ADA), a device with the same FCC ID as another is the SAME device, no matter if it has a different model name for marketing purpose. Devices are certified to work with hearing impaired by the FCC ID. Any company that messes that up is liable for millions of dollars in fines and lawsuits in the United States.
Thus the fact the XT1250 U.S. Moto Maxx and XT1254 Verizon Droid Turbo both have the same FCC ID shows the device and all the Droid Turbo device's specs/frquencies is NOT "exclusive" to Verizon. Only the name "Droid" is exclusive (because Verizon paid for the rights), not the device. Anyone that says differently is just believing Verizon's marketing lies and doesn't REALLY know about the technical/legal aspects of the cell phone industry.
Many people have bought the XT1250 U.S. Moto Maxx and run it on Verizon with a Verizon SIM card, just like a non Verizon Nexus 6. It's the same phone as the XT1254 Droid Turbo, just a different model name. Same FCC ID irrefutably proves it.

He was asking about the Droid Turbo which is exclusive to Verizon but I understand that " technically" it's not and the existence of other models, it even displays all the model numbers on our section [emoji14].
But I do stand by my statement. I should have said "for the most part" as there are always those exceptions. But generally speaking, Verizon is one of the fastest carriers to update their phones and that was the main message I was trying to convey.

My point is the Droid Turbo is NOT NOT NOT exclusive to Verizon. There is not only another device sold in the U.S. that is identical (U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250), there are sibling series devices with slightly different bands -- just like the 2014 Moto X for Verizon and 2014 Moto X for AT&T have slightly different bands, and the Moto X for an British carrier has slightly different bands. Yet, they are all the Moto X. But the U.S. XT1250 and XT1254 have NO difference. It's the exact same device and both are sold by U.S. carriers. Verizon just chose to call theirs a "Droid".
The ONLY thing exclusive about the Droid Turbo, is the "Droid" name. The exact same device is sold by a dozen different regional carriers in the U.S. and will run on Verizon with a Verizon SIM card. When Verizon says it's "exclusive", they are legally correct because no other carrier/manufacturer is allowed to use the "Droid" name -- if all you care about it a name. But the exact same device/exact same FCC ID shows otherwise.
All the hack "tech" reporters repeat Verizon's marketing lies verbatim because most don't have a clue how the cell phone industry works or they want early access to devices -- one reason Apple gets a pass on outrageous lies.. Those who REALLY know about the cell phone industry know to take "exclusive" claims with a grain of salt, but they still may not challenge it in print because it can hurt them professionally. They will be blacklisted from early access
So, the real question is when did all the other Quarks receive Lollipop and when did Verizon's Quark receive Lollipop? The answer is March 21015 (for non carrier versions) and July 2015. Now, when will the other Quarks receive Marshmallow and when will the Verizon's Quark receive Marshmallow? For the record, I do not know if/when the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 received Lollipop. So, it's possible Verizon was not the last.

No kidding.. they were supposed to release lolipop for the Ultra/Mini, and by the time I retired my Mini like 3 weeks ago it still didn't have LP.

OEM (bootloader unlocking)

So since the new droid turbo has this has a toggle under developer options you think we will see any root love? Its not supported on Motorola's website but maybe its just because its so new? or maybe it just followed over from another variants software? what do you all think?
The turbo 2 will maybe get root but I will bet my life it won't see an unlocked bootloader. It's a Verizon phone. They lock their phones down hardcore

Lets hope so. This phone with custom software would be even better than it already is.
I am Droid Turbo 1 user here. That toggle means absolutely nothing. We also got that toggle when we got the Lollipop update, it's only for devices that have bootloaders that can be unlocked. Since, it's under the developer options, the toggle can't be removed. Enabling it will only do you harm, simply disables the device theft protection features without giving you anything in return. I recommend you keep it off. Don't get your hopes up about root either. When we were on 4.4.4 all we got was a temp-root, and now even on Lollipop we still don't have a root method. I just hope you guys don't have to go through the update crisis we went through.
EDIT: Just because the Moto X Force has root, don't assume it will work for you. The Turbo 1 has an international edition which got root, but doesn't work one bit on the US version.

The Motorola link I posted earlier states that you can get a pin from motorola to unlock the bootloader but will have to agree to voiding your warranty.
Except the Turbo 2 isn't on the list, and never will be... So that link doesn't mean much to us...

Considering if you do a Ctrl+F on the page and type "Verizon" the only hits on the page you'll get are for developer edition models, I wouldn't think they're going to suddenly decide that this phone should be allowed to be bootloader unlocked.

ALL the Quarks (U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250, International Moto Maxx XT1225, Moto Turbo XT1225) had unlock-able bootloader and root, except for the Verizon Droid Turbo XT1254. Because Verizon told Motorola to lock it down.
But if you wanted root on that device, you had to buy the phone's twin -- the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250. It had identical FCC ID, was the EXACT SAME DEVICE as the Droid Turbo -- but bootloader could be unlocked and rooted. Many people bought it to run it on Verizon. It runs on Verizon with a Verizon SIM, just like a non-Verizon Moto Nexus 6.
There were two Quark devices released under THREE model names. Kinzie will be the same, in that there will be a U.S. non-Verizon version available... Wait for the regional CDMA/LTE carrier version, unlock it and run it on Verizon...
____________
TWO MOTOROLA QUARK PHONES -- RELEASED UNDER THREE MODEL NAMES
The U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 has the exact same bands as the Droid Turbo XT1254. Has the same FCC ID. The only difference is the XT1250 has an unlock-able bootloader. It's basically the dev version of the Droid Turbo. One of the best LIES Verizon ever foisted on the public is that the Droid Turbo was "exclusive". Only the Droid part of the NAME was exclusive -- because they own the rights to that name. Not the DEVICE, nor even the "Turbo" part of the name was exclusive. The EXACT same device, with exact same bands, exact same FCC ID is being sold by a dozen other carriers IN THE U.S.A.
The U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 (CDMA/GSM/HSPA/LTE) is not to be confused with the International Moto Maxx XT1225 and Moto Turbo XT1225 (see even the Turbo name is not exclusive), which are also Moto Quark phones but do not have CDMA bands enabled, and have a slightly different mix of LTE bands. Both the "International" XT1225 models are the same device, in spite of having two model names (Moto Turbo and Moto Maxx). Same FCC ID across all regions, same SKU.
See, there were two Motorola Quark phones -- with two different FCC IDs -- released under THREE model names: Moto Maxx, Moto Turbo, Droid Turbo
FCC ID IHDT56PK1:
XT1254 U.S. Droid Turbo/XT1250 U.S. Moto Maxx (identical device, CMDA/GSM/HSPA/LTE bands -- except for model name). The XT1250 will run on Verizon, with a Verizon SIM card. This device has LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 7, 13 enabled.

FCC ID IHDT56PK2:
XT1225 "international" Moto Turbo/XT1225 "international" Moto Maxx (identical device, GSM/HPSA/LTE bands, except for model names). This device has LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17 enabled.
(Moto stock ROM for the XT1225 is still Lollipop 5.0.2 -- but we've had custom Lollipop 5.1.1 ROM for several months, even before Verizon finally released 5.1.0 for the Droid Turbo XT1254.)
______
The two FCC IDs associated with the Kinzie are:
* IHDT56UA1 (Droid Turbo 2) < this will be the same FCC ID for the U.S. non-Verizon variant.
FCC letter: https://fccid.io/document.php?id=2690015 (lists Verizon LTE band 13)
* IHDT56UA2 (international Moto X Force)
FCC letter: https://fccid.io/document.php?id=2711123
Motorola is only required to list the GSM/HSPA/LTE bands used by carriers in the U.S. in their specifications to the FCC. Of course, we know the Moto X Force has many, many more LTE bands than those listed in that letter. It's only important so you can track the FCC ID. (Last year, Motorola did not list all the LTE bands the XT1225 Moto Maxx had, even in their official specs -- until they released the identical XT1225 Moto Turbo in India. THEN, then finally listed all the HSPA/LTE bands we had already found. )
Just like with last year's Quarks, Motorola swears all the Kinzies are identical in specs except for CDMA/LTE differences:

So, based on this, we should be able to buy a Force and enable it to use the SW locked out LTE & CDMA bands required to make it fully functional on VZW?
Where to buy the unlockable turbo 2 having CDMA bands ??

Its not out yet. It is called the Moto X Force. We do not know for sure if it has these CDMA bands, but based on the info posted above, it should, since the FCC filing basically is certifying it as identical to the DT2, which has CDMA bands. Basically, our DT2s should also have the international GSM bands as well, but the SW locks them out.

I am thinking of picking a Force up on Swappa when it comes out and trying to get it unlocked and running on vzw. If not, I will prob just switch to T-Mobile. I am tired of VZW locked down phones. I love moto, and since they are no longer doing DEs, this is my only hope.
EDIT: I have reread this post a bunch of times. It looks like there is a solid chance that the Force WILL NOT have CDMA bands, but WILL have LTE band 13?
