So I had searched for devices with the Snapdragon 425, I I had found the Redmi 4a on the list. Now, I went on the forum for the device and found lots of Oreo roms... I was wondering if because they have the same chipset, could their roms be ported to our phone (Qualcomm) to bring us Oreo??

Nope; be nice if ROM adaptation was that simple.

Hey bro,
Just wanted to check with you, xiaomi recently released the kernel sources for the redmi 3, the hardware is very similar to our xiaomi mi4i just that they are using the snapdragon 616. I'm wondering if it would be possible for you to port your kernel for the redmi 3? I'm sure lots of redmi 3 owners will be really happy and I'll definitely ask them to try to donate where possible, myself included of course.
regards,
davtse

The kernel dev for the mi4i is willing to look into porting his kernel for the redmi 3. Take note, he does not have a redmi 3(or a mi4i anymore, he uses mi 5) so where possible, this community will need to support him with logs, information(sources) etc.
His kernel ( @haikalizz) was probably one of the few developments for the mi4i that made it useable for me in the long run.
Of course, I'd encourage you guys to donate as well(take note the nature of a donation is to support development and not to buy the services of a developer)
Hi all,
What I found today on gsmarena.com.

Seems Xioami is testing 7.1.1 for Redmi Note 3 SD version..
Not sure If it is true or fake just sharing ?

Before someone is going to point out 5.7 inch screen size is not correct, I just wanted to tell that even my Redmi Note 3 shows it 5.7 instead of 5.5 and also the clock speed is 1.4 GHz at gfxbench for me.
IMO, this could be a custom ROM with an OC kernel.
someone just found custom kernel and rom on gfxbench an posted as new rom from xiaomi
lol
Someone who said he was miui forum moderator said that rumour is fake, thus is considered hoax. But i personally believe Nougat update will officially roll out at second half of 2017, ان شاءلله
Closed as Redmi 4 doesn't have Kernel Source available

I can't find any dedicated forum of my new device Xiaomi Redmi 4
If any Mods can see this then please make one because XDA is the first place everyone searches for any new developments made to their device
If this device gets a dedicated forum then maybe it development can grow faster because not everyone goes to MIUI Forums because its not that convenient and not everyone can understand it but thats not with XDA
Its very easy for everyone to use
And in MIUI Forums the only development i see is for the China version
So It would be great if we get a Sub Forum for Xiaomi Redmi 4 (Indian Varient) | Codename - MMB29M or Santoni
So i request you Mods please make a dedicated Forum for Xiaomi Redmi 4
Thank you

Mod will only open subforum if there are actual development for said devices. Also kernel source are required.
Can you point thread for those two requirements?

REDMI 4= Snapdragon 430 and 2/16 GB RAM/ROM with codename PRADA
REDMI 4X= Snapdragon 435 and 2/3/16/32 GB RAM/ROM with codename SANTONI.
REDMI 4 PRIME=Snapdragon 625 and 3/32 GB RAM/ROM with codename Markw
STOP!
No Redmi 3s=Redmi 4 in India or other stuff.
Redmi 4 and 4X haven't kernel source i think, released kernel source needed for genuine modding and a dedicated forum
For now, only Redmi 4 Prime have Kernel source

The Redmi 4 (Indian Version) is known as Redmi 4X in China so i think this both device will share same developments
But i can't even find anything related to Redmi 4X on xda
There are Unofficial custom twrp recovery and some custom ROMs on other site like 4PDA but I don't find sites genuine as compared to XDA
So I was requesting for the forum because then no one will go anywhere else because everything can be found here
And Redmi 4 is launched on 26th of may in India so i think there not much development of this device
And there is a great confusion because Redmi 3s in india is called Redmi 4 in china and now Redmi 4 is launched in India which is called Redmi 4X in china
I don't know why Xiaomi is doing this
It would have been great if they have named the phone same globally

Just delete his thread lmao, Nah just kidding let the mods choose whether he can do that or not but I feel this is wrong.

Please close this thread
It seems that in their latest kernel release, Sony has ported kernel 4.4 for all of their devices, including Xperia X which has the same SoC as Redmi Note 3 does, Snapdragon 650. Is anyone trying to port it over? Does anyone think it is feasible to do so? I have been trying to but I don't have much experience so I haven't got it to boot yet. It would be really awesome not to be stuck at an ancient kernel version...
Sony didn't share their sources yet.
Plus alot of stuff doesn't work on Xperia x with the new kernel

Galileo support maybe ( does anyone know about it?)
Bump
Hello everyone,
I've seen few days ago a new that has shown up about Xiaomi releasing official firmware source code for Xiaomi Mi Max 2!
This is really great news and I hope that there will be ROM porters soon!
Beside this I have seen that ported LOS by @xuefer thread is locked due to not complying with GPL but maybe he is interested into continuing his work on LOS?
I love device but I hoped for a bit more development. It really ticks many points in terms of hardware.
Cheers everyone
no worries, development is slowly but surely starting now we have RR, LOS, AOKP, Mokee OSP for AOSP based roms already, so thats nice plus a ton of MIUI based custom roms. im sure it will only get better from here on out!
btw, why did u open this thread in the ROM section...? this fits probably better in the guides/news/discussion section...
Thank you, I hope the phone will attract more developers now!
I honestly really don't know. I was searching for such topic here and eventually found 3 similar topics In news. Waiting for moderator to close the topic
My apologise in advance!
Faced a bootloop after installing the twrp recovery over the latest global developer. Why did it end like this?
