hello, i like what is the best kernel for stock rom? i am using the extreme kernel. thank you
The stock kernel is the best if you want to get regular OTA updates.
What's best for you may not be what's best for me! I'm getting old, life's too short to be worrying about flashing kernels and adjusting governor settings! ?
It will always boils down on your preference. For me, franco and moun is giving me a good battery life and balance with performance.
I tried Franco, MiNT, Void, Extreme. So far Extreme is giving me the best battery life, so imo extreme is the best.

Hello, first of all this is my first post and thread. I have read the rules and searched for a similar thread. I am not stupid and I know how forums work. Now my question is: Which is the most performant kernel for the MT4G?
Know to be more specific, I am looking for a kernel which a very high OC and UV rate. I want something that can easily manage clock speed when it needs it the most. I am interested in genereal boosts of speed, higher I/O managing speeds, better gaming experiences and a longer battery life. I know that the kernel doesnt do all of that but it has a major impact those aspects. I am running CM7 nightly 144. Im hesitating between Faux123 Cm7/AOSP 2.6.35.13 kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113697) and thederekjay 2.6.35.13::demonSPEED INSANITY kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113554). I appreciate anykind of constructive feed back
I personally use demonspeed-insanity. It'll clock up to 1.8 atm. Couple that with the SMARTASS governor and you get a pretty decent balance of battery life to performance.
can't go wrong with either kernel, i've used both and their both outstanding in performance and battery life.

Thanks for the feedback guys . I'll probably try both of them. I'll post some quadrant benchmarks and battery life results.
Faux 123 1.0.7 is the best IMO, great uv and quadrant scores, got 2600+ on stock and battery life is great.
I have used both kernels and got great battery life from each one. I prefer Faux's kernel for AOSP roms, and thederekjay's kernel for MIUI roms. Faux updated his kernel to OC @ 2.03ghz and its blazing fast
Faux's all day!!!!
He has put in the most work and has the best performance by a wide margin.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've seen loads of ROMs all about adding speed to the Nexus 7, and most of these ROMs also advertise better battery life, but I've not found any that actually have better battery life than stock, and I haven't seen any ROMs with a main purpose of increasing the battery life.
Also, it might be just me but I'm really satisfied with the speed of the stock ROM so I don't see much need to speed it up!
Franco Kernel did increase my battery life but I can't use it on 4.2.2 as it locks up my device into deep sleep. Other kernels I've tried have increased performance but not battery life. I have tried Elite Battery Saving kernel but that's for an old version of android, so to revert back in kernel would be reverting lots of the changes in kernel that have been done by Google I think (I know there were a lot of changes from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2?)
So my question is, is there a ROM / Kernel combination out there that is just trying to increase the battery life?
Thanks a lot. No disrespect to the hardworking devs that work on speeding up the Nexus 7; it's just my personal opinion.
Roms have little impact on battery life. Its primarily going to be a combo of the kernel and your own unique settings. Want to see anecdotes regarding other users' results with different kernels? There a thread for that.

As najaboy stated, it's a combination of kernel and user settings.
Note that custom kernels have governors, which regulate cpu core active states, and mhtz. Suggest you read up on custom kernel governors to get the most.
Also, we have a thread pertaining to this;

As "Best Rom-Kernel" threads are not allowed, however, that thread is dedicated to it.

It is a hard question but the answer is pretty simple. What is good for my phone does not necessary good for yours. Need to try it yourself.
And for overclock kernel don't use overclock setting all the day.Higher clock means higher battery usage.

It depends on what u actually need. OC wouldn't be very stable for example. If u don't want a lot of customization and a stable kernel try lean kernel if you like more features try n3. They are actually all pretty good I tried every kernel and haven't had issues. At the end of the day u will have to look yourself what fits u and your phone best. If you need some info about kernels search for kernel explanation. Got help myself not 2 long ago
Hi i would like to know whats the best kernel profile for elementalx. Im looking something with good battery life and performance thanks

Hi... Running PureNexus +last EX kernel with ghost pepper profile.
I quite like it. I'm satisfied with the level of performance it offers while not being too much battery hungry...
You could also look here:

You should find details on different profiles + theirs plus/cons...

Try yourself, that's the best advice anyone can give you.

The stock kernel is actually pretty good in terms of battery life and most custom OOS kernel will either be the same or better. Franco kernel has always been renowned to be one of the best when it comes to battery life. Blu_Spark and Affinity kernel are both good all rounders. From my experience with EAS kernels, they tend to drain more compare to the HMP counterpart. You can start off with these but in the end, its best to read the OP and try out the kernels.
There is an app called L Speed (requires root) you can download from the app store, you can run this along with what ever kernel you got to tweak it to your liking.
I'm using weeb kernel with helix engine, it's quite good You may have to tweak some settings in helix to avoid performances issues in certain apps but it's quick and easy
