Can anyone confirm if the Galaxy Tab A supports USB Host mode fully? Either out the box or with a custom ROM? Specifically looking at the SM-T350.
Currently using a Nexus 7 in the car, USB host mode works perfectly allowing me to charge the tablet as well as run a number of different attached USB devices. I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition, but it does not support USB Host Mode (at least not without a Lavalink adapter). Trying to figure out a replacement for the Nexus as it is slowing down but need to confirm USB Host Mode works first.
Thanks.

After spending most of an afternoon trying to figure out how to get Heimdall to recognize my new phone ("Samsung USB Composite Device" was not turning up on the list of devices to install the driver for -- just 'Unrecognized device' turning up in device manager), I just came to the realization that I had it plugged in to my USB3 port. Switching to a USB2 port fixed everything.
Strange thing is, the rest of the phone works fine on the USB3 port -- just download mode won't connect on it.
Putting this here in the hopes anyone else struggling with this will spot it and give it a go.
@ OP
download mode works fine with USB3 + windows 7 64 bit.
USB 3 works and USB standard is backwards compatible anyway .
Was your USB port a mainboard port as SGS2 needs one not the often lower output on other ports .

Can you guys check the NDIS ethernet link speed on your PC when connecting your phone in usb tethering mode through a usb 3.0 port?
I'd like to here from owners of both the exynos and snapdragon version.
Just go to: Network and Sharing Center> Change adapter settings right click on the Remote NDIS connection and select status and
you can see the connection speed in the status window which in case of my xperia z shows as 480Mbps (exactly the speed of usb 2.0)
I'm planning to buy a tablet and the reason I'm asking this is to find a solution for playing with my PC through the tablet just like nvidia shield streaming.
I'm currently thinking of waiting for the Galaxy Note Pro and connecting it with a usb 3.0 cable in usb tethering mode
to my PC and create a 5Gbps ethernet connection between the note and the pc and stream using splashtop.
Anyone?
I am using W8 and the USB stays @2.0. The high-speed 3.0 is kinda unstable on 4.3, I will let you know how it works under 4.4.2.
Also, the 3.0 is not even used by Kies!!!!!

Tethering/MTP it doesn't matter.
For 3.0 mode you need to select a different option.
Hello. Had my note 4 since release and just now trying to use usb host / otg and having no luck. Absolutely no devices are working on my note 4. Tried the otg adapter on my nexus 10 and its fine so unless there is a special adapter needed for the note 4 the otg cable is not the problem. I have tried a xbox controller a mous and a thumb drive and nothing not even led lights showing activation.
So any advice or is my usb port bad? Been using vanilla android for a while (nexus devices) is there a setting im not use to maybe?
solved
It appears my motorola otg is not compatable with the note 4. Tried a samsung otg and all works. Guess not all cables are equal?
I am looking to getting a tab a 8.0 for a car setup to replace my nexus 7. My main concern is the tablets ability to charge while using otg. I need the tablet to have USB audio out to a sound processor and also change the tablet.
Samsung website says it does otg + charging however I tried in a store and it not work - I'm thinking maybe it's down to the tablet being in retail mode?
Any info Is appreciated
Can anyone confirm if the Galaxy Tab S2, specifically the SM-T713 has full USB Host Mode support? Either out the box on factory firmware or with a custom firmware? I currently run a 2012 Nexus in the car and have a powered USB hub with a flash drive, USB DAC, Joycon etc all plugged into the hub, which is then connected to the tablet via an OTG Y-cable. The Nexus is starting to slow down and show its age, so I am trying to figure out a replacement. But, without buying something and testing it out, not something I can realistically do, it is proving difficult to find which tablets support USB Host Mode. The S2 looks like a nice tablet, and with an S4 coming out sometime soon I expect prices on the S2 to come down a little as well. USB Host Mode is going to be a deal breaker though.
Additionally, is anyone running one as an in car tablet? If so, how reliable is it? any issues? recommended ROM's?
Thanks.
