Hello. Had my note 4 since release and just now trying to use usb host / otg and having no luck. Absolutely no devices are working on my note 4. Tried the otg adapter on my nexus 10 and its fine so unless there is a special adapter needed for the note 4 the otg cable is not the problem. I have tried a xbox controller a mous and a thumb drive and nothing not even led lights showing activation.
So any advice or is my usb port bad? Been using vanilla android for a while (nexus devices) is there a setting im not use to maybe?
solved
It appears my motorola otg is not compatable with the note 4. Tried a samsung otg and all works. Guess not all cables are equal?

I would like to transfer files from my Gopro camera to my Nexus 7. I am using this cable: eForCity Micro USB OTG to USB 2.0 Adapter Compatible with Google Nexus 7. I have tried Stickmount and Nexus Media Importer. The camera is never recognized. A solution would be greatly appreciated.
Solved
It was a cable issue. I don't know how to describe what cable ended up working, except that It was the usb to mini, that was in the bathroom.
I tested the Note 3 for USB 3.0 OTG connectivity.
I could not get Superspeed transfers, only USB 2.0 speeds.
I confirmed with the Charger Doctor and multiple USB devices on an unpowered hub that the Note 3 does output the full 900mA of current that a normal USB 3.0 port would. This means that the Note 3 is fully capable of outputting 900mA of current for OTG devices.
I confirmed that the Western Digital USB 3.0 My Passport hard drive (formatted to exFAT) was fully powered and provided sequential reads and writes.
However, the most I could get was 39MiB/sec, which indicates that it is operating at USB 2.0 speeds. Has anybody had success getting the Note 3 to operate at USB 3.0 speeds when using USB OTG?

Hi All
I am currently facing an issue with using a USB 3.0 Flash Drive on my N9005.
I recently bought a Kingston DTHX30/64GB from Amazon and the benchmark which I did personally at a IT Retail Shop at the mall using their AlienWare Laptop show that the USB Flash Drive is working perfectly at > 300/150 (W/R).
I bought an OTG Cable from a local online shop but the benchmark shows only 30/20 (W/R).
The only tests that I have yet to conduct is to borrow another N9005 to verify if the fault lies on the cable or my phone.
Anyone out there is facing the same issue?
Is this a firmware issue?
Pretty sure the standard OTG cables are usb 2.0 only. Need a OTG cable with the correct USB 3.0 connection.

The current USB 3.0 OTG comes from a Local Online Retailer in Singapore which got their cables from China too, but not sure if their source is reliable.
Anyways, I have ordered an OTG this time round that will be flying in to me from China. Let's see if this cable works.
Sorry for double posting as this is an update post.
The USB 3.0 OTG I personally ordered from China came today and I immediately put it to test.
The packaging and the cable is exactly the same as the one I bought from Singapore.
And the results? It's also exactly the same.
This time round, I am going down to Sim Lim Tower to get an Engineer to specially make one USB 3.0 OTG for me and I shall put that to a test. I think this will cost me like 15 to 20 USD (20 to 25 SGD)
I shall name my cables, OTG A (The one I initially bought online from Singapore), OTG B (The one I ordered from China) and OTG C (The one I get from Sim Lim Tower).
I have tested OTG "A" and OTG "B" using on my friend's N9005 and the results are the same.
The next test will be that, I will format my USB 3.0 Hard Drive to Fat32/exFAT and test using all 3 OTG cables.
Can it be my Kingston USB 3.0 Flash drive not compatible with the OTG Cable?
Please enlighten me. I saw somewhere on this forum that we need to activate USB3 on N9005 to use it?
I've been unable to get the SM-N900T to link up USB 3. I've been looking in the kernel source and doing some debugging and the USB 3 host controller isn't even registering a USB 3 device connected to the port. Just a USB 2 device. I've looked at some of the datasheets for the Snapdragon 800 processor in this phone and its not really clear if it supports USB 3 OTG, or just USB 3 MTP as a device.
I'd love to get a definative answer from samsung or qualcomm but for now i've given up on USB 3.0 OTG with the Note 3.
I too would love to hear if it is possible to get the phone to USB3 in OTG mode and not just MTP. I purchased 2 "USB3.0 OTG" cables expecting faster transfer speeds with my external USB 3.0 SSD or USB 3.0 memory sticks. No such luck.
When contacting the seller to inquire about the inability to transfer at superspeed, I was just given responses like it must be a bad cable and will issue a refund. I purchased 2 of these and both have identical transfers speeds.
Likely just get a refund as it looks like it may not be possible to switch the phone to USB3 for the OTG. Bummer.
I have a couple different cables coming today. If they both test at only USB 2 then I'm going to call it a fail.
What i really don't get is why the would put an xhci host in the snapdragon if they weren't going to support USB 3 in host mode.
Eric
I just posted some more results on USB 3 OTG support. I probably should have just put it in this thread but here is a link.
Short version. Still no luck

I've tried a variety of USB 3 OTG adapters and none of them have worked correctly. Suspect OTG functionality doesn't work with USB 3?
Okay
I have tested with 2 different 9005 and 3 USB3.0 OTG Cable from 3 different source.
Everything doesn't work. All possible test are conducted and test results are at USB2.0 speed.
N900 N9000 and N9005
N900 is the Note 3 Neo version. It has USB 2.0 only
N9000 is the Exynos version with USB 3.0
N9005 is the Snapdragon version wiht USB 3 ports but USB 2 speeds.
I want to buy this phone as I can use an Image App to control a camera, and then copy the SDXC card to a USB3 HDD.
Could someone kindly confirm with a quality USB 3.0 OTG cable that the N9000 Exynos version is capable of USB 3
speeds while operating as a USB 3 host ?
N900a n900t
I have both a N900A and N900T rooted and running android 5.0.1 roms.
Having the same results as the rest of you, ~35Mb/s transfer speeds on usb 3.0 otg with a ssd. Quite disappointing.

Does the nexus 6p have OTG support? I have tried searching and didn't come up with anything definitive. Some say it works some say it doesn't. I currently have this OTG: Monster USBOM-0064-L 64GB USB 3.0 High Speed Mobile https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S70GGKI/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_a92zwbV8J56A7

I can't get it to work. I am on Beanstown's Pure Nexus rom. Is it because of the pure nexus rom? Or is it my hardware?

I'm on Pure Nexus and OTG works fine for me. I'm not sure what your problem is but I don't think its the ROM.

I'm using a Kingston USBc 64gb jump drive.
Yea I am pretty sure the problem is my adapter but I think I am just going to buy a USBc OTG.

I picked up this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZWN64RS and it works great!
OTG works but you need a USBc OTG adapter.
Using a USBc to MicroUSB adapter with a MicroUSB OTG cable does not seem to work.
I don't have write access as a user, only READ ONLY
I tried several known good USB drives. I tried several file managers. The system can write and reformat the USB drives. The Nexus 6P is not rooted. Is this normal? Any suggestions to get it to work? My head hurts from banging it against a wall.
Sorry to post dig, but ive got a working adapter but im seeing an issue:
- Sub 5mb per second transfer speeds
This is with es file explorer, but on other android devices with the same usb2 stick i cam easily get 14mb per second.
What speeds do you guys get?
I was able to get OTG working when I got this adapter ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017MP658G ). Not every device works on it, however. Several USB thumb drives have worked with no issues, one inexplicably does not. Also, and more disappointing, is that my USB to SATA adapter doesn't seem to be recognized. I have a 120gb SSD that I used this method with my LG G3 and it worked fine.
Maybe it's the adapter? Changing setting from "supply power" to "transfer files" does nothing to change it. It sees there's a USB attached, but doesn't read the format.
I've tried several USB to type C adapters with stock Nexus 6p. All of adapters had USB3.0 support, it's important. They all worked fine with USB2.0 flash drives and they all didn't with USB3.0 flash drive. I've ordered some adapters USB2.0 to type C to test.
UPD: I've tested six USB to USB type C adapters with both USB3.0 and USB2.0 support - they all not working with USB3.0 flash drives and work wine with USB2.0 flash drive. Also: the phone can recognize the drive but can't mount it.
I'm sure this is the phone issue - I've seen successful mount of my test flas drive with one of adapters on some Xiaomi phone.
Is there any way to connect multiple devices I.E. keyboard & mouse through an OTG adapter? I have a powered USB hub and it does not seem to work.
I use this with my note 5, in the process of purchasing usb type c adapters to use with the nexus 6p, if you want to check this out.

Hi guys. I have bought a Patriot Stellar OTG USB 3.0 16GB flash drive. when I connect it to my Samsung S7 Edge I encounter the error that says "High-power USB device connected..." and it doesn't open. While my brother's Galaxy Note 4 has absolutely no problems opening it. I also have problems opening any USB 3.0 drives via OTG adapter or other OTG cables. Does anyone else have the same problem? Any solutions??

Can't open my 32GB Sandisk Ultra in a microUSB adapter on mine. 16GB works OK. Samsung appear to be a little excessively conservative on power allowances on the port for some unfathomable reason. This is running Nougat.
I got two S7 edge, one is ok with a samsung otg usb drive but the other is not, however, it's fine when using a otg cable. (dual connections, normal usb and otg usb drive)
same problem with my s6 edge, unable to connect to Pc
