Moto G4 sudden death - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi, I have a Moto G4 XT1621 bought almost 6 months ago. Never had any type of problem, but two days ago I woke up, saw the hour just fine, and five minutes later I grabbed it to check notifications, and it was dead. The only sign of life the phone gave me was the blinking of the charging LED and the phone vibrating randomly when I pressed the power button. That night, the phone turned on, but the screen was always black, no backlight. I heard the boot up animation sound (the classic "HELLO MOTO!!!"), but the screen wasn't turning on.
Thinking it was a software failure, I've flashed the stock rom via fastboot (the phone connects in bootloader mode, but I can't see the bootloader screen), but the problem was the same: I can hear the boot up sound, and if right after the phone boots up I press the power button, I can hear the lock sound about 5 or 6 times, but apparently it turns off itself.
Sometimes, it can't boot properly; the boot up sound is cut before it ends, mainly in "HELLO MO...".
I really need help, I've tried everything: leave it charging for hours, tried a major amperage charger, pressing the power button + vol down for 2, 3 and for 5 minutes, disassembling it and reconnecting the battery, tried to turn it on without the battery, flash stock ROM, all kinds of wipes, etc.
The phone hasn't suffered from water damage, I didn't dropped it or anything like that. The screen connections nor the motherboard connectors does not presents any damage.
Any help is welcome .
PD: Sorry for any misspelling, english isn't my main language :silly:.

Could have been the screen or the GPU

It seems weird because the phone didn't have any issues, it just turned off and bye bye. I'm running out of options
Edit: needless to say that the phone don't stay that much powered on (5 seconds aprox. for the sound that the lock screen do), so I don't think this is a screen problem. If it was a screen failure, the phone will stay on.

Bad/good news?
Almost five minutes ago, I noticed that the screen on the phone is on, but slightly visible, almost impossible to see: you have to be in a fully darked room, and its backlight it's on, but it shows no sign of letters on the bootloader or boot animation whatsoever, it's just backlight.
Any ideas of what could it be? I'm almost decided that I need a screen replacement, but any ideas will be welcomed.

Wizard Died? (Startup issue!) Please Help!

Hello dear XDA-dev members;
I had a problem this morning with my Wizard. I have a G3 device which i had downgraded to Button ROM for unlocking etc. It was working really fine until this morning. Last night i have turned off the phone radio (wireless and bluetooth was not enabled)and the battery was charged almost at %60.
This morning i woke up, i saw that he was entered in USB recovery mode itself. (the screen with red, green, blue, with my IPL 1.0 / SPL 1.0) , i was terrified because nobody touched my phone. Then i have pushed over power button, it shut-down. I've just waited a few minutes then i've just pushed again over power button, it started with my windows mobile 5 splash screen and showing my ipl/spl. the screen is really bright at this moment but fades out, when he started to fade out, he just shut-down itself.
I've read and searched over the forum, and though that it was my battery which was dead. I've plugged it with wall charger and waited almost one hour, and the charger led was red. I've tried to turn on, he just came on and go over my Today screen! and the charger led turned to green. Almost 45 seconds later the phone turned off itself. I've tried to re-start but it's same. I'm getting windows splash screen, and the screen brightness starts to fade out and the phones shuts down.
I've tested my battery with a volt-meter, i'm getting 4.86 volts. i have also checked power pins inside the phone, i'm also getting power there (4.6 volts) when it's connected with wall-charger, so i think that it's fine.
I have tried to hard reset, pushing communication + voice command button + soft reset button, i had the black screen, he said that it was ok, but same here. I was running with Button rom as i said before. (1.05)
Please help.
if you still can get into bootloader, it should be fine
It was entered into bootloader mode itself. When i'm trying to start it, the splash screen comes on, it shows WM5 and my IPL/SPL and 20 seconds after, it shut down. I really need help because it's my only phone that i own.

Have you had your phone more than a year? It may be the battery.
Replacement batteries cost only $5 on ebay or Amazon. Just get a battery so you can be sure that isn't the problem. In any event, you will probably need a new battery so you may as well try this.

I've gone to buy a new battery, but it's the same thing. It just shuts-down irregullary at splash screen, or today screen.
Some faults in memory result in the device needing to soft reset in an attempt to reclaim memory. Perhaps you could try flashing to another rom. I dont own a g3 so I cant really advise you any further.
Mine not exactly like you but automatic bootloader or stuck at IPL screen. It was out of nowhere but thought a bad flash. When trying the hard reset, it would come as "failed".
Nearly threw phone thinking too old and dead but this came to rescue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276963. If not tried, give it a shot.

Nexus 4 wont turn on

Hey everyone, Im having a problem thats making me worry. I was using my phone today and for some reason the phone wont turn on after I turned it off. I havent dropped the phone at all and it hasnt been abused in any way. The last thing I was doing before I turned it off was trying to send feedback for the Yahoo Mail app because it wouldnt sync automatically, but even that was unsuccessful because it wouldnt send. So I thought I should just reboot it but afterwards its not turning on at all.
I tried holding the power button for at least 20 seconds and still nothing is happening, and I tried plugging in the power cord to see if that would help but it hasnt. Has anyone gone through a similar issue? Please Help
Thanks.
Leave it plugged in for fifteen minutes without touching it.

Try holding volume up + power to see if you can get into recovery then reboot from there.
Also, give some more details about your setup...
Rooted/Stock/What Rom/Kernel?
Yea I left it alone for a bit and then I held the power button while holding down both volume rockers and somehow it turned on. I dont know why this happened but I'm just glad it turned back on, it gave me a good scare though. I just hope it doesnt happen again
Mine is completely stock, I havent done anything with it yet
And may I ask what was your battery percentage level like after the short charge? Maybe the phone drained it all just being turned off... There were some cases of this here...
i wanted to add that i had a similar problem with my phone not turning back on. However, I managed to fix what was wrong by just plugging in the usb cable. I know you've tried it, but just in case someone else stumbles upon this thread (like me!) and has a problem turning on their nexus, I wanted to share my experience.
I haven't done anything to my phone other than add my old apps to my Nexus since I received it 1.5 weeks ago. It's stock. I've never dropped it or gotten water on it or anything. I charged it overnight last night and stuck it in my purse on the way to work. I think I briefly saw a working screen after I unplugged it this morning. However, the first time I tried to access my phone today was after I got to work. It wouldn't turn on, though that pinkish light at the bottom was still blinking. I tried calling it and the Nexus wouldn't ring even though the call went through a few rings and then onto voicemail. I tried holding down the power button for a while and also holding the power button with the volume keys to see if that would work, and it did not. Finally I borrowed a usb cable to plug it in, hoping the jolt of power would wake it up. That worked. It gave me the charging symbol for a little bit and then gave me the startup/loading screen with the glowing x made of arrows. I checked my battery and it was at full charge. Well, it was at 85%, which is odd since I plugged it in for about 9 hours last night to charge and there has only been 3 hours of non-use since I unplugged it. Also, if it was really turned off during those 3 hours it shouldn't have ate up any battery. Anyway, I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents in case anyone else has this problem. My brother, who gave me the Nexus, told me that he only has 2 weeks to return it if there's something wrong with it or I don't like it. Needless to say this gave me a scare, since the 2 weeks is almost up.

Yes this happened to me the other night. I was making a phone call and accidentally hit the power button. I then tried to turn the screen back on in order to hang up the phone and it would work. I tried holding the button for 15 seconds, tried pressing the volume up/down keys, and still nothing. I then put it back in my pocket for a minute or so and tried again. When I did that the screen came back on and the call was still active. Very strange, and I hope it doesnt happen again....

Same thing is happening to me right now.
Running stock. Not rooted. Phone charge was around 70% and I was on twitter and the app force closed. So I decided to restart my phone then went to turn it back on and it wont respond. Tried holding down the power button for 20 sec. Volume up and power, volume down and all 3 at the same time. Still nothing. Leaving it on the charger for awhile and the screen is blank no battery logo or anything.
Not quite sure what to do now?
That's scary

I try hold Power + Volum Down - or Volum + but get same result.
I plug in Adater and wait for it. I will check it 2 hour later.
My Nexus 4 use Stock Rom, Rooted. and this first i get this problem. Please advise me on this case. Thank
I'm having similar problems. Lots of random rebooting and refusals to turn back on sometimes, even though the LED at the bottom is flashing so i know the phone is still powered up. Also, sometimes when i have it plugged into a computer through usb it will get extremely hot and completely shut down, not turning back on for a long time. I called the google play store and someone is going to get back to me. I love my nexus 4 so i hope i can get this fixed or a replacement.

I had this issue too a couple of times playing Pandora through my car's Bluetooth. That was when the Nexus 4 had 4.2.1. I have not had this issue with Pandora since the upgrade to 4.2.2.
However, I just now had this issue with Movie Studio app and exporting a video I edited. It turned off its screen like normal screen timeout but then would not come back on.
I had to Volume Up + Power button for a few seconds and then release to get it to reboot.
This same thing is happening to me. Haven't found a specific cause...
Just got the same issue
Today got mine not turning on.
Managed to turn it on by holding volume up and power button together for about 30 seconds while phone was on a stock charger. After that I saw blinking orange led. When I resolved buttons there was a battery pictogram. After pressing and holding power button I finally got turning on vibration and Google logo.
The only things a made after the charging were making few photos of my cat (from the lock screen) viewing them in gallery. Then I locked the screen and put the phone on a shelf. In a hour I was not able to turn it on.
My phone has stock rom and only few third party apps installed.
I got muy Nexus 4 on 21-Dec-2012. 4 days ago I flashed to Android 4.2.2 which phone dowloaded itself. After flashing phone was rebooted.
What I noticed is that it shows 70% battery. But It was fully charged few hours ago.
30% in 2 hours! In my opinion some service/app drained these 30% by using 100% of processing power that caused overheating and/or hanging.
I too have just had this problem. And I've had it previously when making calls, the screen simply won't respond at all, its quite annoying.
This morning my alarm went off and the screen wouldn't turn on, it went on for so long I almost threw the phone across the room. I eventually held the power button and volume down/up button and then the led blinked orange a few times and the phone reset, now it seems fine.
Its a very annoying problem, and could be very serious depending on what you are doing, might have to phone the play store and tell them.

This has happened to me twice now. First time was a month ago and the second time was this morning. Phone was at 100% just woke up checked my messages turned off phone 10 min later it will not turn on. Un plugged cord re plugged cord nothing finally pressed up/down vol and power for about a minute (long minute) and the phone rebooted. YIKES!
Every thing seems normal now but I hate that scare and the fact that it has happened to me twice. Full Stock, not rooted.

Happened second time.
I was able to turn it on again by following the same steps. But this time I got some strange issue: after resolving vol+ and power buttons I saw battery pictogram with some frame with a blue background; when phone finally booted up this frame and blue background were visible through the my desktop background an screen itself was much lighter with pure colors. Only after about 5 soft resets screen seems to became nice again. Each reboot caused blue frame to become less visible. I'm confused and worried.
Also during all these reboots this frame with blue background was visible even in behind "Google" and "X" logos during booting up.
Another strange thing is that on screenshots I made this frame is not visible.
That would have to do with LCD or software..
As the battery & Google are just pictures that change. If you understand what in saying lol ?

Screen stopped working, burning out?

SO Sunday morning I wake up and my phone has been on charge all night, its 100%, I unplug the phone and about 10 minutes later its very hot and at around 60% battery. So to stop this I go to turn it off and start seeing these red "bubbles" under the screen like water but its the LEDs turning red. I have never dropped the phone or put it under water. Its a hot day as it is and about 5 hours later I turn the phone back on and its fine for around 15 minutes watching youtube videos, it then starts flashing black, like the whole screen shuts off for half a second and comes back, still sound playing, about 5 minutes later the phone starts glitching out and the pixels on the right hand side start turning red (no link) like so. Then the phone starts jumping between that and this ( no link ) which happened for around a minute and since then the phone screen is just black and doesnt display anything but the phone is still active and had feedback on the screen such as touch vibrations. Really want to know whats happened and why if anyone can help
Probably a hardware defect that will be covered under warranty. But possibly a software problem that's causing the cpu and gpu to run really hot. You can try booting into safe mode to see if that makes a difference:
Shut the phone off and let it cool down.
Boot into safe mode: https://www.google.com/search?q=gal...rome..69i57.3932j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Use the phone for a while, and see if the problem reoccurs. (Your 3rd party apps will be disabled, so you won't be able to use them, but you can do other things.)
If this seems to solve the problem, delete any recently installed apps, or factory reset the phone, and see if the problem stays resolved. If so, add your apps back in a few at a time, so if the problem reoccurs you'll have an idea what caused it.
If none of this solves the issue, it's a hardware problem.
My wife had EXACT same problem. Backup everything while you can as my wife's phone died few hours later. (no display at ALL - digitizer was working fine though - so could shut down, etc). Symptom also was that when you reboot, it will display the boot up screen just fine, but as soon as all white screen was able to display, display will just die, etc. Pressing power button repeatedly would eventually turn on the screen but color would be off and simmering, etc.

Turbo 2 stuck in boot loop, help needed

I have a Droid Turbo 2, XT1585. It got water damaged by a 5 second full submersion. Before that, it already had a display problem... a pink vertical line as well as a loss of color depth. This was caused by a small drop... the screen may be unbreakable, but the display is still fragile. I took the phone completely apart to dry it, and noticed that one of the ribbon cables of the display was torn, so I bought a new display module that included the power button and volume control rocker (OEM with the Verizon logo). I washed the motherboard with alcohol and allowed it to completely dry.
I put it all back together and though the display looks great with the Motorola logo, that is as far as it goes. I can get to the boot menu, and all of the system info looks good, except that is shows Battery Low in red... it showed 39% just before when I took it off of the charger. I can choose recovery, factory, or normal boot, but they all produce the same boot loop. Just shows the Motorola logo for a few seconds, then goes off, then back on and shows the logo again. I have to go into the boot menu to tell it to power off.
I've got nothing to lose at this point as I am looking at getting a replacement. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Jim
I had an issue with my turbo 2, but it wasn't caused by water (I don't think). The phone randomly froze, went into a bootloop, and would not turn on correctly no matter what I tried. I tried charging, power and volume down for different lengths of time, power button, connection to my computer, nothing worked.
Moto turbo 2 xt1585 Go itno bootloop and sometimes not
My moto turbo 2 xt1585 go into bootloop everytime i turned it off, it comes back to its life after 2 to 3 times turning on and off, sometimes after 2-3 days. Any Help?

[SOLVED] Stuck in boot loop: No image, short vibration every ~5s after battery drain

SOLVED: had display repalced.
Hey there!
I've had this Zenfone 3 Zoom ZE553KL for almost 2,5 years now and this is the first real issue I had with it.
One night I went to bed with ~30% battery remaining. When I woke up the phone was dead and holding the power button only made a short vibration. No image on screen.
Here's the things I tried:
Plugging it in: THe charging LED lights up and the phone vibrates quickly every 5 seconds or so
Leaving the battery to drain for 24h: The phone still starts vibrating when I press (or hold) the power button
Holding PWR and VOL+: The phone starts this vibrating cycle agian
Connecting to a PC via ADB: adb devices shows nothing. fastboot devices shows nothing. The phone had USB debugging enabled.
I did those things with and without the SIM card.
Any ideas how to troubleshoot from here?
Cheers!

Not much you can do. Try opening the phone and disconnect the battery for few minutes.

Disconnected for 5 min. After reconnecting, same behavior.
Will try leaving for 1h, although I doubt it would make any difference. After 5 min all caps should be discharged...

The storage is encrypted. The only way to recover the data is booting the current firmware, right? The last backup is a few weeks old...

Yea, it's encrypted by default. No way to recover it really if you don't boot the device into the os.
Also if the battery disconnection doesn't help, try disconnecting different parts that can be disconnected, like the screen, changing port, cameras etc. One at a time.
As a last resort will be to try to bypass the battery or change it.
I had something similar. I plugged it in and left it for several hours (I think about four or five) and then it turned on.
Mine did NOT vibrate every few seconds though like yours but maybe worth a shot.
Good luck and hope you get it working!
It was the display. Had it replaced and now the phone is working fine.
Thanks, guys!

I accidentally dropped my ROG 3. The screen had no scratches or any cracks at all, but the screen had no display. It's totally black. I can hear the sound and the vibration when I hold the power button. No charging LED lights. PC could not detect the phone. Thanks for this post. I need to replace the screen, and it's really expensive.
