Wondering, anyone got this problem of having multiple entries for the same persons in their phonebook. I only sync my contacts from Google Contacts, which only have less than 50 in it, but on my phone, there are over 100 contacts. Some person have 5 or 6 entries listed against them. When I delete one, all are gone including the one in Google (confirmed from Google Contacts website). It is NOT a case of having multiple entries of the same person as they are not repeated in Google Contacts. It is not a case of me having to merge contacts as there is nothing to merge. They are effectively the same entry repeating itself on the phone's phonebook.
I am using stock B09 ROM for A2017G with the stock Contacts app.
I noticed that those repeats are the ones which I have live chats on WhatsApp, BUT, it does not matter if I select WhasApp under "Contacts to display" or not.
Had the same problem in my davice. The fix for me was to clear data and cache for all the related apps such- phone, contact, contact sync, ext. Than re-sync the account.
As above - delete data for the "Contacts Storage" app and then re-sync.

I have the same problem, apparently caused by the "OnePlus Switch" app, and tried to do just that. But on my new OnePlus 6T I cannot find any "Contacts Storage" app. Deleting data of the "Contacts" app does not cut it.
What can I do?

I have done a search for this and can't find an answer - apologies if I've missed one.
After months of irritation with the HTC Sync thing, I have now exported my Outlook contacts to my Gmail account and now have 396 of them sitting there. I enabled Gmail syncing in the settings menu and did a sync, changing my contacts view to 'Google'. Problem is, I get nine hundred contacts after the sync, even though I have turned off the 'phone contacts' view and should just be seeing the Google contacts. (I can see 904 gmail contacts in the 'Google view' in the 'contact source' view.)
If I go to menu, view and then deselect 'phone' and select 'google' and then hit 'delete all' and then try again, will this delete my phone contacts or just the google ones? (I can't risk losing everything, you see.)
Thank you, in advance.
I had a similar problem. I logged into my gmail account from my pc and found three of each contact. Gmail has a nice function to find duplicates and then you can merge them. Worked fine for me.
Hi all.. Don't know if I've done something wrong (!).. but the contacts on my wife's Legend aren't syncing with Googlemail.... The phone is set up with the account, and the sync looks like it works on the phone, but when I log on to google there are no contacts..!! Help!
Her contacts are probably set as 'Phone Contacts' not as 'Google Contacts'. If you go into the People Application and look to the right of the contact name, it should say 'Google'.
Fix
Try and log out of facebook in settings/account and sync/facebook for HTC Sense, and then reboot and then log in again.
worked for me

I have the same problem. In fact i has have some "google" contact Sync with Google and other "phone" linked with but not sync.
Is there a way to change the phone contacts in google contacts without re-insert them?
I searched for a tool a while back to do just that but didn't find one. As I had only half a dozen 'phone contacts' in over 450 'google contacts', I ended up erasing and putting them back manually via google.com/contacts
Ended up backing them up to the SD card, factory reset the phone and then re-imported them back into google, instead of the phone. PITA.. but had to be done..
So I'm new to Motoblur, but not Android phones.
At the moment I have two Gmail accounts and a Facebook account linked to my Motoblur account. As a result, I have ALL my contacts from all of those accounts in my contact lists, even though I have a "Cell Contacts" list under one of my Gmail accounts.
On my Milestone/Droid, I could select this group from Contacts > Menu, but apparently here I cannot. Any attempt at deleting all my contacts won't let me delete my primary Gmail account, saying other apps are using it. This is leading to frustration. Using Motorola Phone Tools won't let me delete Facebook contacts, as it says they were imported by a third party source.
Am I screwed here? Any solutions?
download Contact Remover from the market and you can delete all or selected contacts in one swoop.

But won't that just make them come back when my contacts re-sync?

make it so it doesn't sync contacts?
When you delete contacts you don't want they do not come back (I've done this a couple of times) I also went in and liked all contacts that belong together to make it less messy

so ive done some digging and cant find the answer. the phone on froyo would save contacts to the phone AND all accounts. we have multiple accounts for these phones and would like them to be synced with only the outlook account. what i want to do is delete all phone numbers saved on to phone memory at once. then re sync with outlook so all is good. we have hundreds of numbers so i dont want to do it one by one. any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
btw i cannot do a factory reset. ive seen in the past you go to manage apps-and clear data from contacts storage, but that option is greyed out....
I would think the first thing to do is go to menu>settings>accounts and uncheck the sync contacts option for each account. Then go to settings>apps>manage apps>all and find contacts. On my phone (apex gb) I can select clear data.

I have tried multiple times to stop facebook from syncing contacts. The only way i've managed to stop it is by removing facebook. Now, obviously i'm doing something wrong.
Can someone point me into the right direction? I have actually unchecked "sync contacts" under facebook in accounts...but when i checked to see if it was still unchecked a couple
hours later...it was checked. Now everytime i want to text someone (as i type in their name) my phone contacts AND facebook contacts show. HATE IT lol Help

Did you turn off facebook contacts in your contacts app?
Inside Contacts, hit the three dot icon then settings then contacts then contacts to display, and then select your gmail (or which ever contacts list you use). It's defaulted to all contacts, so maybe that's why you still see facebook contacts.

yes sir i did...do you think after i installed facebook and had it installed for a bit that it synced FB contacts already...so even after i turned sync off it was too late? I'm not worried about the contact list though. I can choose what contacts i see in the contacts app. Thats no problem. It's when i compose a new text message...that's when ALL contacts show up. Phone and FB
Check the FB Messenger app if you have that installed; it also has an option to sync
The Facebook app itself also has an option to sync. In the app settings, it gives you 3 options under "Other Settings" - Sync all (which is what it's doing on your phone), Sync with existing contacts (which only syncs Facebook info with contacts you have on your phone), and Remove Facebook data (which removes all Facebook info from your contacts; it may also be called Don't sync).

Thank you guys. Finally found the option in the actual FB app. I was always looking under "accounts" in main settings. Thanks again
