So I've been going back and forth about which Android phone is going pop my cherry and I've decided to allow myself to be deflowered by either the X or Fascinate. I'm in the midst of an ugly break-up with my Touch Pro (I know, I'm due) and it's about time to send that phone packing.
I've got a bit of trepidation about the X's size... It might be too big for me. I may want to ease myself into this, ya know. (in all seriousness I'm not sure that thing will fit into the shirt pocket on my uniform while I'm at work)
But I've heard rumors that the fascinate is dirty. From what I've seen it's got Bing's disease. Please tell me that someone here will have a prescription for that shortly after it hits the market.
it may be a option...
Maybe its just an option for search providers. This will also be my first, I will be moving up from a moddoded Omnia 910
I got a chance to see the X the other day when I went into the verizon store, they had it activated and made it a big deal I was being able to see it by taking me into the back room. I must say, its big.. but it should fit into a shirt pocket.. at least width wise lol. Looking at the specs for the Fascinate and everything I really dont find it all that special. That being said, I will be the owner of an X by the end of the week :O
The Galaxy S has already been rooted, not like it's hard to replace the launcher and everything and use your own search provider.

Wonder what you mean by not all that special because spec wise it stands at the top of the heap with the droidx. And if your speaking about the higher spec camera, that's been out done by the iPhone. Or the 3 mics. Remember this has a smaller but better screen. Better processor and gpu and its footprint is smaller. Don't get me going on the hardware locked bootloader the x has. All in all I will get this in a second screw Bing
omg
i cannot believe the people that are dancing around like little girls because there is a "bing" search widget.
Holy ****, seriously. Just delete the widget off the front screen and use a google widget..
This kind of stupidity makes me sad for the human race. To quote Fight Club, " A generation of men raised by women".

Thanks. I couldn't agree more. I've been toying with the idea of getting this phone and here and other forums have people complaining about Samsung's decision to go with Bing like we can't do anything about it. You don't even need root to get rid of Bing
I cant believe what i am see...HAS anyone on here actually used bing with the navigation before... don't get caught up in the name.. it work just as fine( In my opinion better the gmaps)
I've used Bing on the PC, never find a useful thing and has a cluttered results list. No way would I want it on my phone either. Handset makers and carriers should leave this choice in the hands of the end user.

Anyone notice it's not going to be able to use Google Navigation either?
You're going to have to pay for VZ Navigation...check the training documents.
That's a huge WTF
Hope the documents are wrong too about the ram, they're listing it in the 300's instead of 512 like all the other Galaxy phones
Verizon is back to it's "lets see how bad we can nerf and screw up this phone" days
It will have 512mb ram. It will have gmapps and navigation. Its an android phone. I would b freaking stunned if it didn't have these. Ill b getting one either way. I'm got rid of my dinc and x for the captivate on att and can't wait til I get my fascinate. The CPU and GPU are the absolute best in a mobile device anywhere period. This is going to b a great device. Even my 5mp camera and camcorder on my captivate is WAY better than either of the 8mp shoooters on the x or dinc. Trust me. These will b the best overall phone on vzw. Better than the x or the dinc. Period. I've had every Droid phone vzw has to offer. The captivate blows them all away

So, what will happen when you press the hardware search button? Will it be Bing? Will we have the option to change it to Google?
I will be rooting my phone and likely running a custom ROM once available (love you devs), but I'm not a fan of Bing.

youre wrong on all 3 points. You can use Google Maps/Nav, Specs are listed as 512MB Flash/384MB RAM with 2GB of Internal Memory, Verizon hasnt crippled any Android, its upto the manuf to come up with the hardware, the carrier can set limits on what the device does on their network, such as AT&T

sounds like all BS to me.
First off, 2.1 can only use 384mb of ram or so - so if what you say is true about hte documents, it is accurate until 2.2 is out to enable highmem for the full 512mb of ram
EVEN if they blocked google navigation (which makes NO sense, because it is available on Verizon's other android phones), you could still install it or root your phone and install it.
Because this phone is already rootable, nothing in this thread is relevant or anything to be afraid of.
You can change the background, change home launchers, change the search widgets, etc etc...
I think some of you don't understand the possible issues this might have.
Verizon took away my option to have Google, or any other search provider as my default search, when I had my blackberry. Woke up, and (bam!) all that was there was, was Bing. Google and all my other search providers was gone. You could still use Google by bookmarking it tho, but that was extra steps for no reason.
Verizon has shown by my example they can cripple a phone if they so choose.
Worst case scenario? (And I hope it isn't)
Unlike blackberry, Google is deeply integrated into Android. If Verizon broke Google integration, and replace it with Bing integration, then that would be worse then you think. That means even if you replace the widget with a Google one, (for example) it won't stop links in the browser from defaulting to Bing when you click on them. Another example would be Bing maps would open instead of Google maps. Another limitation would be Bing's voice search, which can't compare to Google's.
That search/magnifying glass button would only open Bing search, A nightmare.
If that's the case, I forsee a LOT of rooted phones... running Google.

Its alright. If he had a brain, he'd realize that even replacing the widget doesn't replace the default search provider. Trolls these days.
Anyways.. Two words.. Verizon Sucks..
Love their network, hate their bloat.
I bet first thing that's gonna come out after root is a method to get rid of bing!
So... not that worried, but samsung/verizon lost lots of sales by choosing bing as the only search engine for fascinate.
I hope the money from microsoft is worth the lost sales.
All of the reviews and hands-on posts I have seen and read basically say the same thing. Bing cannot be removed. Everything is mapped back to Bing no matter what you do without rooting. On top of that Google Maps and Nav seem to crash when trying to launch. Just about all of the Google services have been mamed, broken, hidden or disabled. Root can't come soon enough to this phone, and hopefully root can fix it.
I currently have a Galaxy S3, but my dad wants a budget phone and he is looking to get the 4S...I have been trying to convince him otherwise and to get this phone, but he WILL NOT budge. He doesnt want an Android because I had multiple problems with my Nexus when I had it, and I am trying to explain to him its because Samsung did a horrible job with the Nexus.
Anyone have any good reviews or things that I can use to persuade my dad against the iPhone.
Phositadc gave an awesome review under this same general forum. Thread titled impressions after 1 day of use.
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2
To be completely honest and put my Droid bias on hold for a second, I would probably say that the 4S would be a good phone if he is new to smartphones and not very technology oriented. The one thing the iPhones have is simplicity. While I do firmly believe that android is the superior OS for power and utility, I can't deny the "user friendliness" of the iOs. Also, if he has an iPod of some sort and uses iTunes heavily, that would be a sure seller for the 4S for continued Apple nursing.
However, if he has is in any way tech savvy, push him towards the power, personalization, and screen size factors and make him hold and play with the M for a while. The M beats the iPhone 5 even hands-down in these terms, but you need to put down the Apple flavored kool-aid to see it.
At the end of the day, though, it's his cash, he will spend it how he wants so you may just have to accept that. If he starts sitting in line for days for things, however, he may need to be put down since he is obviously a lost cause at that point, lol. Can't save 'em all...
exactly what he just said. your pops has to use the phone not you so he should choose what he feels is good for him. working in IT folks always ask us at work what the "best phone" is and i tel lthem to i prefer android but IOS is a really good choce, esp for less tech savvy users who just want a phone that "works"
ive stopped rooting most friends and families phones because majority of the time it breaks updates, etc. unless they understand (or are willing to learn) how to use CM, etc and do backups and update ROMs on their own.

I don't understand why you don't want your dad to get a phone that he wants. It's true that iPhones are limited/locked down compared with Android phones, but they also have their advantages. He can likely get help from anyone who has an iPhone, because of that consistency. Even though I've owned an original Moto Droid and then switched to an HTC DInc 2, I feel somewhat lost when looking at other Android phones, mostly because of the manufacturer overlays (Sense, TouchWiz, etc.) and other changes that they make.
I tried getting my wife to switch from her Blackberry to Android, but after she tried my Moto Droid she said she hated it. After she tried my DInc 2 she said she hated it and would stay with her Blackberry rather than switch to a smartphone. One day one of her friends showed her an iPhone 4 and guess what? Yep... she wanted one. The UI is simpler and less customizable, but it's also easier to understand and start using quickly. Maybe something similar is going through your dad's head. While there are really good Android phones out there, it's mostly a crap shoot unless you know exactly what you're doing, and getting help, even from another Android phone owner, can also be a crap shoot. The simplicity and consistency of the iPhone is a liability OR a plus, depending on who's looking at it.
I see them as too limiting, and that's why I've purchased and am waiting for my Moto Razr M developer edition.
If you're looking for ease of use, get him a WP phone. Those are way easier to use and much smoother than iOS or Android.
I find Android a lot easier to use than iOS, though. I can never find where anything is on iOS, and it's not intuitive to me at all.
My brother calls iPhone's "Kid Phones". Tell your dad that.
I got my dad to get the Razr M and he loves it

I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy s4. I have been encountering a very annoying problem. I am a heavy texter, I text over 10,000 texts per month. My primary phone has always been the iPhone and it is extremely smooth and amazing texting. However, I find it very annoying that when I am texting 2 people or more simultaneously on my samsung galaxy s4 I experience severe lag. For example if I'm typing a text message and and incoming text comes my phone lags. I remember experiencing this on the HTC Windows Phone 3 years ago and saw it was extremely annoying. I am very disappointed that such a new and expensive phone that is backed out with internal hardware cannot handle a text messaging conversation without having the experience significant lag. Very frustrated right now does anyone have a solution? I am very close to returning this phone and either getting a secondary iPhone or perhaps the HTC One.

Custom kernel and rom, fixed.
or just CM 10.1 if you want.
I was hoping that there was a solution other than Rooting the phone. I don't want to lose some of the Samsung features that would not function on roms.

there are TW roms, kernels, and other messaging apps. i have CPU set differently than stock (500mhz with screen off, 1.3ghz on), GoSMS pro and GoLauncherEX that i use, and TouchWizUI frozen along with lots of other stuff i dont use frozen. no lag that way. Stock ROM stock Kernel, rooted, debloated, SIM unlocked. Nova launcher is quicker than GoLauncher, but i like the GoLauncher interface and icons better.
With TW roms/kernel you need root, but wont lose TW stuff like smart view, air gesture, etc etc. also wont lose IR blaster function.
Also try freezing S-voice in TiBU, that made a heck of a difference for me.
So let me get this straight Samsung wants us to call up $600 for a SPECed out phone that can't properly send and receive text messages without lagging and freezing the phone. Also Samsung wants us to buy a phone that doesn't even have autocorrect on it stock keyboard! This is ridiculous these are basic functions of any phone. They should be worried more about providing us with these basic functions make them as glitch free as possible before they worry about adding stupid and useless functions such as hand gestures and infrared. Hey I'm just frustrated right now. Everyday its something new and annoying with this phone.

No, actually AT&T, Bell, Telus, and Virgin want that. Stock S4 ROM/UI is not as lag prone. Basic functions of a phone are some numbers, call and hang up features. And Autocorrect is patented in different forms, so that's an issue between the titans of mobiles an OS providers, whether it be software or hardware provider issues; maybe try a different messaging app. GoSMSpro has decent learning autocorrect. Others too.
Welcome to the 21st century, be glad your problems and issues are those of 1st world countries. Ive been/lived/worked in places that getting clean water is impossible and babies die every day of simple diseases or infections that here, in the 1st world, practically don't exist. And there are dozens of workarounds and ways to speed it up, etc. You bought the device; i hope you at least played with it first. Never buy anything sight unseen or without some foreknowledge about it.
The $600 you 'called up' (think you meant 'coughed up') is more than the worldwide median annual income. For a phone. Keep that in mind. Every time i start getting ticked at all the problems im having, i look at a picture i took some years back of kids in a village in Swaziland on a work trip; none survived a recent flu epidemic.

First let me say that I am a heavy believer in charity and taking care of the "third" world as well as your neighbors right in your neighborhood. However, I can't stand when people post the term 1st world problems. your post assumes that its a choice where only one option can operate at a time. That is, if OP complains about a device he spent good money on he is suddenly out of touch and showing a lack of concern for various global sufferings. Or, on the other hand, if he has concerns for other folks around the world he should just shut up and put up with a sub par product. C'mon. Why can't he complain legitimately about something he spent his hard earned money on and still be concerned about third world problems. For all you know he may be funding a well in Africa, supporting and AIDS research initiative, giving his time/money in some form. You just don't know. He has what money God or whatever you want to believe provided for him, he can spend it as he sees fit and if he spent it in a premium product that fails to deliver the promised premium experience let him complain without trying to be the moral police.

Actually if you venture into these third world countries Samsung makes phones, which are downgrade cheaper models that's have touch wiz without Android and they cost almost nothing but send and receive text messages more efficiently and with no lag ass compared to their flagship phone samsung galaxy s4 which cost me over $600 since I got the 32 gig model. So I wish Samsung wasn't ripping people off and advertising this as the next big thing because I'm pretty sure my iphone 3G didn't lag when sending and receiving text messages. And that was 4 years ago.

Many things it could be. I dont see the issue you describe on my Note II. I would be very irritated like you if I did. You might have to go back to the iphone. I would try returning the s4 first though. Careful about the apps you install as well. Free is rarely free.

I had a note 2 as well and that phone was simply amazing. In my opinion that is the best built phone the Samsung has ever come out with. It is also the best Android phone. It's billed very sturdy and solid and the software is excellent. Till this day I have never experienced any lag with it or any slow down despite any applications I have installed. Based on this reliability and the amazing job Samsung did with the note 2 I assumed that's a much more speced out phone such as the samsung galaxy s 4 which is a newer model would be just as stable and lag free as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Boy was I wrong.

Is it just me? I'm so glad to see specific forums for Sprint Galaxy S8+. I've always felt lost with the S7e with all the carriers lumped together, of course there may have been specific carrier forums, I never stumbled upon them. Watching some youtube videos, I've noticed some things that Sprint left out of our variant (such as the NavBar is suppose to have an option to change the color).

You must have done something to goof with it or just have a bad OEM flash. I've been using Nova since the 19th without a single issue from it.
Hello
I almost didn't go with samsung again after 2 terrible s7 edges in a row that were defective, as well as sprint horrible customer service.. I'm glad I bought the S8+. Working great, battery life is amazing and no issues except for one. The adaptive sound crashes every time I try to personalize my sound. Other than that, I'm happy with it.
I bought this phone in excitement over the soon coming physical keyboard mod. I've been waiting for this for years and refused to upgrade from my Droid 4 until a new qwerty slider was made.
Now to my great dismay I am learning that this phone is UNROOTABLE????
I just... Can't. I have ads popping up, noise robots shooting on my screen and I can't close them FOR 5 SECONDS??????? This is preposterous and torturous I am losing my mind. How can this be acceptable? I need root to effectively block ads via the host file. I just can't continue to use this phone like this. Keyboard or not, if I can't have root I don't want this phone anymore.
Will someone please direct me to where I can purchase a rooted or rootable z force?
Besides that I'm willing to put a .1btc bounty on anyone who can successfully guide me to root this phone. As much as I want a keyboard and shatterproof screen these ads create horror. Like I'm tied in a chair and being poked prodded burnt and pieces of my limbs cut off... Without anaesthetic.
Will others please join me in adding to the bounty for the first developer that produces a working root for Verizon Moto z force?
Great phone, excellent mods... But the ads will be a deal breaker and I Will get rid of this phone and unfortunately sit out whilst going back to my Droid 4. I will buy 4 Droid 4s to add to the 3 I already have just in case they start getting scarce.
As a longtime Moto advocate and customer I am deeply hurt, very deeply hurt by these ads and the inability to root and block them. As a voice that begged for physical qwerty to comeback and begged for a Droid 5 for years to be facing this now.. I can't even.
Please someone... Help!
I am on nougat 7.0 and halted system updates until there is a root method
So as it turns out, the z2 force is rootable, so I'm getting one of those. Didn't expect that so soon but there it is. Verizon Moto z force sucks.
Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
I know it's rootable but make sure Verizons version is, because I know Verizon locks the bootloader on those kinds of phones too. Don't make a mistake again. Also I can't upgrade for a few years so I'm still hoping some miracle happens
I've also been waiting for a root method. I'm on build NCL.2 5.86-11. I tried using Dirty Cow, but I was unsuccessful.
A little dramatic aren't we? As of now only the Sprint and T-Mobile versions can be unlocked/rooted. If your main concern is ads try blockada, its a free, non root ad blocker that works pretty well.

I just bought a Verizon branded Moto z2 Force Edition, and have come to find that my FoxFi no longer works due to the update to Nougat. I'm actually coming from a Note 4 and was able to downgrade it back a previous version of Android after it automatically updated itself just after buying it. Does anyone know of a way to downgrade the z2 Force back to Marshmallow? I can tether the thing to my computer using PDANet, then start the WiFi option in Windows 10 so my XBox One can connect, but I don't want to wake my computer up every time I want to play my XBox. Thanks in advance.
The z2 force come with nougat out of the box so you can't downgrade... If you where talking about the original Z forcr droid as it has locked bootloader you can't donwgrade either...

Are the ads put there by Verizon?
I have verizon Moto z force and wish could root too. I have success blocking ads with adguard but you have to install the ".Apk" from their website and allow untrusted sources on phone.
I'm grateful for adguard bc I feel same as OP about ads, they are insufferable torture and psychic abuse.
The reason I want root is that adguard uses local VPN connection to mimick hosts file type host blocking, but then you can't use an actual VPN at the same time. So you sacrifice privacy to block ads.
With root you could have both ads and VPN privacy which is ever more important as net Neutrality disappears and corporate abuses will abound.

Two updates ago it ruined my phone... Made it super laggy, I put off the update that followed it thinking it might help, it just made everything worse. Now my phone won't load YouTube videos, if they play they're a terrible resolution, web pages won't load, and the phone is even more laggy its unusable.
Suspisciously both of these updates happened the month the phone was out of warranty, is this how Google works with phone companies to make sure you buy a new phone every year? By making your phone an unusable slow brick that can't connect to the internet? Battery life is also terrible now! I'll never install another update! Now my phone is a "secure" brick!
I really really need to be able to root this phone and install a rom that makes it work again! Can anyone help me? Please!
Yeah I stay away from updates. If the fone I working perfectly fine... Why update?? is my motto

This is the third or forth time an "update" has rendered my year old Android phone virtually unusable because of updates to the apps and os screw things up like clockwork make it partially usable, then the next wave of app updates screws everything back up again.
I am so disgusted and pissed off I think I'll save up and get an Apple. And I am a die hard anti iPhone guy, but you know what?! Starting to think Google and Android are evil, greedy, and don't deserve a dime from me. So no more to scumbag Google and Android.

And you think Apple is better? The IOS 11 update is apparently a real horror show and they aren't quick to fix things either.
Your beef isn't with Google, it's with Verizon. Unless you bought an unlocked moto z force, you're locked to Verizon and your updates come from them, not Google. Google may issue the initial code, but then it's submitted to the carriers for their branding and then they send it to you. Nexus and now pixel phones are the only ones updated directly by Google.

Well you might be right. Verizon is one of the greediest companies in the world as far as I'm concerned it's no wonder they'd introduce "security updates" (those don't come from Google!?) that completely destroy your phones performance and force you to get another FROM THEM.

Not being critical, but maybe your issue is device specific or usage specific. Both my sons have moto z's and have taken all the updates and have no issues from firmware performance. Have you done a factory reset? You might have corrupted something. And yes, the monthly security updates are created by Google, then sent to the carriers to tweak before you get them as ota's. Google is only responsible for the core code, not what gets done after. I've just come from a Nexus 6, updated directly through Google for 2 years, and any issue was quickly resolved.
Your problem is not with Google, it's either your device, your application, or your Verizon issued firmware needs a clean install.
You know what you were right. I returned to stock via the bootloader and downloaded just the bare necessities and updated everything and now none of the problems are there any more. The phone is smooth, fast, and the battery life is much better. Who knew?
Thank you so much for the suggestion you have restored my phone!

Soon as it's out of warranty they send updates to cause problems. If you ignore then you get one that bricks your phone. This not only happened to me but 6 other people. All a few weeks after the warranty was up. It was a move to sell the z2 force.
Let me guess. You have a min of 2 Moto mods huh? I got the z2 force after it happened because of the mods but I'm glad Moto is going belly up. Phones are trash now and the support is a joke at best. They can't go under fast enough. Soon as the new note launches Im ditching this hunk of trash z2 force and getting a quality phone.updates won't be any slower then Moto. Hey z force's how's 8.0 somce they said you were getting it winter 2017? Oh wait they are dragging there feet trying to get you to buy new phone.
