Network help - how to see my PC's shared folders?

I have set up an adhoc connection between wy MDA and PC. I managed to get ICS working, but i set up some of my PC's folders/drives to be shared over the network. How do i view these on my MDA? I can't find them anywhere.
using file explorer click menu > 'open path' then type //
i've just tested this however and i couldnt get it to work, it has done in the past though, i guess i need to configure my router.
I use Resco for my file manager, it allows you to "map" network drives (or folders) so you can easily browse shared folders from inside Resco.
There are other network browsers about, some better than others - try googling "WM5 network browser" and use a trial on anything that looks promising.
I use GSFinder, it's free and it has a "Network" option I also have ICS and a ad-hoc Wifi connection. I acces the shared folders with their UNC names. You can use your PC as a huge SD card!
Does adhoc mode only support 2 devices. Or can you have an adhoc mode with 3 devices connected?
you can have more than 2. I often have my deskop PC (connected to the Internet and with ICS enabled) My wizard and my laptop connected together and thanks to the network folder I can access files on the PC and on the laptop from the Wizard
I have noticed some programs, like media player, cant play files from the network. I get messages like 'can't play this file' or 'Incorrect parametor' etc.
1) Is there any way around this?
2) How can i make my network shares visable straight from the 'open file' dialogue with most programs? I can play some files straight off the network with TCPMP, but i have to find them in Resco first.
Thanks again.

What you speak of already works and I use it from time-to-time.
First, create an Ad-Hoc (not Infrastructure) Wireless Network with some SSID and Encryption assigned on the PC.
Then on the Universal, add the same Ad-Hoc Wireless Network as you have set on the PC.
You can connect to shared drives on your network with the standard File Explorer.
When you have File Explorer running then from Menu select "Open path" and then "New Path". Then type in the path to your network drive and you should get connected. If you have some form of security, you might need to fill in a login form.

I have tried accessing my networked PCs and it works if you use Resco Explorer. Couldn't get it to work with the standad File Explorer.
There is almost nothing you can do with two WiFi phones.
You can connect them with ad-hoc network but Windows Mobile does not have the server components for file sharing.
I use Total commander to access files on my PC and even controlled it with remote desktop.
I had no problem accessing shared files on network with the built in explorer but it worked a lot slower then TC. Some kind of delay in the protocol or something.
How The Heck Do U DO That ConnecTin Via Wifi
CAn U Explain How To Get Resco Explorer Or Total Commander Since I have Never You Used Wifi Before I Can Pick Up Wifi signals From Nokia Devuces All Over And at My School Theres Some Sort OF signal Coming From the Offices and my fone picks the up 3 diffrent ones but when i press connect nothing happens can You Tell Me how i can Connect it to access files on a pc when the 2.0GHZ Signal Is Unencrypted I Went To Resco Explorer But theres No Wifi Options anywhere and This One Company said its Creating a applications to allow file transfer via wifi checkHERE! i Dont Know how thats possible can u connect to lets say a psp or Nentendo DS Or Iphonw or any Wifi enabled Device. Whats The Difference Between wiMAX and wifi coz they both use 2.0ghz? Wha does WIFI Stand For It Cannot Be Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). Tankz Yall

Wow thats a lot of questions!
Ok, in order:
1) Just because you see a WiFi signal does not mean you can connect to its source!
It could be another device (mobile / laptop / PC) that does not allow you to connect to it.
The network could be secure so you need a key.
The network could show as "unsecure" but use MAC (thats hardware address) filter so only authorized devices can connect to it.
2) If you managed to establish a connection, it does not mean you can access anything!
To transfer files from PC to Mobile using total commander you need the HD/partition/folder where the files reside to be shared and have the rights to access that share. (On windows PC you can right click a disk or folder and select 'file sharing'). Than you just access a network folder. In total commander for example, you click on the '\\' (top in the file list) then 'LAN', then enter a network path and password if needed.
To serf the internet the network you are connected to must be connected to the internet and allow computers on it access. You may need to manually enter gateway or proxy settings for that network.
3) I did not see any WiFi related tool in the link you provided. In any case it all depends on what software is on the device you are trying to connect to. If there is a server for sharing files (like on PC running win XP) than you can transfer files or you may need a special server program for that device.
4) WiFi stands for Wireless Fidelity - that means the connection is reliable and unlike with analog radio signal which you might here distorted if the reception is not good your data will get through correctly or not at all.
5) WiMax does not work on the same frequency range as WiFi and it is designed for much higher data transfer rates.
You can read all about it here.

That's called theft and illegal intrusion of a computer network. People go to prison for that.
Yes it is very much possible.
Hi guys,
I am extreamly happy to say that i have been able to share files from one windows mobile to another windows mobile that too at the speed of up 450kbps.
i had been trying to do this for atleast 2.5 months with no luck(u may check the related topics, nobody had a idea, Even using xda, google, bing, yahoo, altavista found that nobody has done it before...) but yesterday i made it to work the way i wanted to.
All you need to do is create a adhoc connection(e.g P2P) and download FTP server (Yes your mobile will act as a FTP server) and FTP client.
For FTP server download mochasoft and for FTP Client download resco.
**Once you install resco 2008, go to menu-->options-->addins--> then download ftp plugging(and it will make resco to work as a ftp client)
Mobile A
Start--->settings-->connections-->add new ->name it p2p-->select the option "this is a device-to-device connection(adhoc)...once it is done, turn on wifi on Mobile B it will detect this connections, connect to it.....Now two mobiles are connected with each other via wifi(Without router).....Till this point you can find it in google.
Now to share files open mocha soft on Mobile A(It will show that it is "online" with a specific IP address(Note down this ip address), Anonymous login will be on but preferabaly create a user name (File--->settings--> Add[*give it a read/write permission]) and the password.
Then decide for yourself what exactly you wanna share with the other mobile, in this example i am going to share my SD CARD. Go to file -->settings--> other--> and in the "Login Folder:" put in "\\storage card"
Once that's done open up resco ftp on Mobile B. Go to My ftp locations-->New ftp session--Give a name to ftp session (like abcd), In the host type in the ip address address that you noted down earlier--> let the port 21-->Login:ut in the username that you created-->Password: put in the password
and Hey there you go!!!, you will have the Sd Card of Mobile A and you will be working on it as if it is in your own
....Cont...
On mobile A moccha will notify you that a user has logged on to your server. You can use all FTP commands on mochasoft.
I downloaded the 700Mb movie which was stored in my frnds mobile while we were having beer and it got downloaded at the speed of 450kbps(it started off with 350kbps and was fluctuating from 380 to 450kbps), Just before doing this i tried to copy a 10mb file using bluetooth and resco showed the speed 20kbps........
So next time when you go out to meet your frnds you can transfer all their stuff at the lightning speed via WIFI file sharing......
Good Luck!!
How to browse the internet using Wi-Fi?

Diamond as wireless storage device

Just come across Air Sharing for the iPhone http://lifehacker.com/5047136/air-sharing-transfers-files-between-iphones-and-any-system
It allows it to act as a wireless network storage device, does anything like this exist for WM? I know you can transfer files using bluetooth but not all pc's have bluetooth.
It would be great if such program exists.. for our diamond to make ad-hoc network and share some folder for downloading.. just like on PCs

You could make some like that with Total Comander it has Dirrectory named Moduls and subdirectory in it named LAN and there is two files: New server and _Quick open.
Connect you device to WLAN and type a path to computer after open one of that files (for example: \server or \Home) > press "OK"
and in next window type user name and password (like it means on computer if it has some) > press "OK"
You see that you have a list of dirrectories that are able to access on your computer.
Sorry for my poor english
You can use Mocha ftp serveur, it's a freeware (you just need a given password). It will allow you to access your phone on an IP adress like with a ftp serveur.

What hardware/software do I need to transfer

files wirelessly between my Blackstone and my laptop ?. I do not like bluetooth.
Can I also stream movies?
Bluetooth is easiest if you are only sending single files.
FTP is easiest to access files on your PC from your handset if you don't know how to create shares and access them over networks. To do this, you will need to run an FTP server application on yout PC (Filezilla is a good one), and a client on your handset.
If you understand network shares, then you simply need to make the folders where files you wish to access reside network shares. Doing things this way means you can stream music and movies.
There are literally thousands of sites which will teach you how to set-up network shares depending on your operating system.
Likewise there are many which teach you how to run FTP servers.
