I tried following Sony's "walkthrough" for rooting my new X2A. It's a horrible walkthrough, as it took me a few youtube videos to understand how to get my bootloader unlocked. But now it is. And now I'm supposed to use Emma, which states is compatible with the X2A, but it sees my phone and states "No matching services". (See here [add an http before it though] : talk.sonymobile.com/t5/General-Discussion/Emma-Xperia-X2A-quot-No-matching-services-quot/m-p/1313898) So I have put in a request, but I'm asking here because I've found so many more answers that are from people with actual experiences who give answers.
The post on Sonymobile seems to warrant a reply of "Oh, sorry we didn't get updated for your phone" or "your phone's not supported anymore". But I figured this is the [one of the] newest phone they've released for dev options... Are there any other options to flash? It seemed that Emma would give me my Sony-fed options but still root. I'm not looking to run anything fancy; I just want my old root-requiring apps to work. And to uninstall most of Google.
Should I just resort to TWRP? Are there any images out there? I'd looked up whether the phone was rootable, how easy, etc. before I chose it, and I found a few forums that made it sound like it was super easy, Sony-supported, and whatnot. But now that I have it, I can't find anything of use.
Would appreciate any direction. Thanks in advance.

***UPDATE*** Damn. I ran the update (filename is RUU_Vision_BellMobility_WWE_1.34.666.1_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.18_M2_release_154437_signed.exe), and the update process began. It started off with "Erasing User Data"... then "Sending"... then quickly brought up a window that said:
ERROR [156]: IMAGE ERROR The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.
This sounded like a good match for this device. I'm stuck now. Anyone have any ideas?
***old -UPDATE*** I found a Bell stock update... gonna try this out.. thanks for reading.
Hello all. Forgive me, I'm a Blackberry user and I just got an HTC Desire Z (it is locked to Bell in Canada - CDMA carrier?). I'm waiting for my unlock code to arrive (as I am on a different/GSM carrier) and I'm getting antsy to try it out.
I tried searching this forum tree using many different terms but all I've managed to find were custom ROMS and foreign official ones.
First thing I want to do is update it... I downloaded HTC Sync, which installed all the necessary drivers. (Except HTC Diag - found this online). So now I can connect it to my PC without any driver drama.
Then I went looking for an update. I found RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed.exe (but to be honest I wasn't sure if this is correct for my phone - I tried it anyway). It got so far as to reboot the phone to start the process but it then told me it wasn't the right update for my phone.
So that's where I am right now. I've been reading a lot about rooting, etc. but don't even want to go that far just yet. I just want to start off by getting a nice official software update/rom to get this thing up-to-date.
Currently, the version on this phone is 1.01.666.1 (sounds pretty old to me). I want to get rid of this blasted watermark (and I'm hoping a software update will take care of this).
Which ROM/software update is right for this phone? Any info / links would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm assuming from your initial post that you're not on Bell Canada and are wanting to use it on a different carrier? If that's the case, use gfree (see the wiki) to unlock your device (and fully root it, if you want).

Hey all.
it seems i, along with a few others, have bricked our plays (See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13365748#post13365748)
Essentially, what we have done is, unlocked the Bootloader, then updated the software (through the phone settings, in my case, im not sure about the others)
it seems we need a recovery FTF for the updated software. does anyone have access to this? if so, could you get in touch with waz000000, or anyone else that may be able to help.
Thanks
PS. sorry to put this here, if its the wrong forum, i didnt have priveleges to post in development
Sorry to ask this question, It's a simple one but all the threads seem to go into too much info. I've hunted through numerous threads, but maybe someone can point me in the right direction.
I'm a Win 6.5 kind of person and Know nothing whatsoever about Android (Until my next upgrade (Sensation Hopefully))
In 2010 I bought my daughter a T-mobile UK Hero, unlocked it and is now running with an O2 UK sim.
She has never recieved an over the air update to 2.1, is this because it should come from T-mo and she now has O2 Apn settings??? On 1.5, I can't even find "Check for Updates" in the menu.
Is there an easy way and a step by step guide to this?
I'd like to use a stock rom, as I'll have her and everyone else to answer to if anything goes wrong.
Is there a thread or glossary that explains upgrading procedures and words like rooting etc. as all this seems a little different to Win Mo.
Thanks
a good place to start would be here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797740
also, please post [Q] threads in the Q&A section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=511
if you never want to root your device, just flash an RUU to the device.
you should find the correct one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
I expect only a T-mobile one will run. I am not certain if this will remove your sim unlock.

Thanks, I'll give that thread a go, and I hadn't thought about the simlock issue. I did an over the air update on my girlfriends desire that I unlocked from O2, and didn't have a simlock issue, or is this totally different to an RUU flash?
Sorry it went in the wrong section. I spend most of my time on the Leo forum where there's no Q&A Section.
Thanks again
Does anyone know for sure if this will re-lock the phone?
If it does, can the phone be unlocked using the same code as used last time?
I seem to recall reading that flashing a rom doesnt affect the sim lock. Dont know about an RUU though
Hi,
I'm using a SM-G900F with the stock ROM LRX21T.G900FXXU1BNL9. Kernel version is 3.4.0-3624618. The phone is rooted, carrier is Vodafone Germany.
I've been made aware that there are OTA-updates that I missed because Samsung's update service refuses to run on my phone ("There were unsupported changes made..."). There seem to be newer builds out there, e.g. G900FXXU1BOH4.
What is the easiest way to get those updates? Of course I could use Kies to do a factory reset and that would probably get me current, but I would have to reinstall everything, which I'm not exactly looking forward to.
Is there an easier way that does not involve a reinstall?
(A quick pointer to a howto would be fine, I just didn't find any myself.)
Regards
No idea how you didn't find that info yourself, it is literally posted a gazillion times all over this forum
Go to sammobile . com - find the firmware you want, read instructions under the download

Two problems with that:
- I can't download from that site (after clicking on "regular download" it still wants me to join something)
and
- I only found the "how do I do it" there, not the "what will it mean". For example, will "the Odin way" preserve my data or not?
Regards
So join the site, it's free
And no, I know those threads are easily available if you take the time to read some, because this is like the 1000th time I've written these exact steps for people who want others to do the searching for them
Take some time to read some threads, sounds like you need to anyway to gain some know-how about your phone
Thank you for your kind assistance.

If I'm posting in the wrong section, please let me know, or move my post for me...
I'm trying to find an ADB enable firmware for boot loader version 5, kernal version 3, and system version 4. Or, at least, I think that's what I'm looking for. I know that's the boot loader I'm looking for though. Everything I find is for lower versions.
I have tried searching all through the forums, and google. Either I'm not wording things right, or I actually don't know what I'm looking for.
Right now I have the combination firmware installed.
Aside from the above;
I'm trying to remove my google account from my device because I forgot the password, and I only had the email logged in on the device. I know, I'm stupid for not removing it first before trying to flash anything else, but, alas...
Is there anyway to remove my google account from my device from the combination firmware? Boot loader is not unlocked...so probably a huge issue there. I've found quite a few resources that detail how to do this, but they all have older firmware versions for the "ADB enabled" firmware downloads.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Heck, I'm an IT guy, I'm willing to learn something and really get into the internals and tear this thing apart, even if it's in some buggy setup that could get me closer to goal. ( I know that makes it even worse that I didn't think to remove my account though, so please go easy on me..)
Dude you have to ask in "question/answer" section of this forum to find any help that could solve your problem.
Have a good day
