Hello everyone,
After a long discussion with Samsung and absolutely no help I have ended up here. I recently updated my firmware on my Galaxy S8 Unlocked SM- G950U(Sprint Network) to the latest build G950USQU2CRC5. After this update I can no longer charge my phone and have fast charging. This is with original cable and charger as well as other cables and QC 3.0 compatible charger. Interesting enough when I plug into my QC 3.0 power brick it tells me that the phone is pulling 5v 1.5amps (7.5w) when it normally says 9v 2amps (18w). Also, only my QC 3.0 compatible car charger will make it fast charge . WTF is going on? I have already gone through settings, soft reset and also cleared cache. Nothing seems to fix this problem. I also get (Slow Charging ) notification at times. Does anyone know a workaround or a fix? Is anyone else experiencing this same issue? I have called and alerted Samsung of this issue. Please help if you can.

I seem to be having the same issues won't charge at all with the Samsung fast charger but it will charge in the car and my USB outlet and a Chromecast charger. Updated this morning to the latest firmware, also unlocked gs8

Okay so what I have found out is even with the cable and a few setting changes it will occasionally say it is fast charging however it never pulls more than 5v which defeats the purpose of quick charge.
Disgusted...
Same here; disgusted with the entire issue... Pay good money, longtime loyal customer, trust now eroded... Even went through reformatting the phone, did not help; waste of time... Thinking of switching to iPhone...
It's the cable and/or power brick. Also we're still on march secuirity, Sammy ain't that fast.
I have the same problem, when I upgraded from android 7 to 9, I lost the fast charge, I'm trying to find a solution.
the usb port says it is wet.
when the cell phone is turned off it is constantly informing that it is wet and the phone is trembling.
when it is on, it charges, however in a normal way, without the fast charge
solved.

Last night I was charging my S4 in my car adapter, but noticed the cattery was still going down. I went home and plugged it into my AC (wall charger) and went to bed. The next morning the S4 was dead and couldn't charge. The only solution was to plug it in my computer and went an hour for it to get some charge back.
I have a root i337m running rootbox 4.1, and I went into TWRP to wiped the phone and installed the ROM again - no luck.
Is this a battery issue, a software issue or a whole device issue? Thanks.

I don't think its a rom issue. I tried charging via USB as well and had phone charging a few hours and it ate crap. So I only charge via AC outlet only. USB charges but at a very slow pace.

I made an error in the OP - I meant to say I left it to charge on the wall and I got nothing.
Right now, the charge light doesn't even come on if I plug it with AC.

I've tried 3-4 different chargers and cables, same issue. Charges slowly through PC,doesn't charge at all with AC. Did a factory reset after reverting to stock FW, no luck.

I doubt it's a ROM issue, but there's no harm in reverting back to stock to see the results (assuming you've backed it up). If it all fails, i think you should unroot and send it to Samsung for the warranty. Software problems are somewhat easier to fix here than hardware, so it may be the best option to let Samsung handle it.
I had similar problems with my Note 2 before and now with my S4. What I found was, sometimes the usb cable wasn't tightly plugged into the wall charger. Once I've made sure of this, I've been able to charge (AC) every time.
I found this article that indicates that the S4 is looking for special sauce on the D+D- pins.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6914/samsung-galaxy-s-4-review/2
Obviously the Galaxy S 4 will charge with any USB charger, but the charge time will simply be longer. Samsung uses a voltage divider and signals the presence of their own charger by sending 1.2-1.3 V across the D+ / D- pins, this is similar to what Apple does with 2.0 or 2.8 V across the pins for various USB chargers they've shipped over the years. This signaling is essentially Samsung's proprietary tablet charging signaling which they've employed on the Galaxy Note 2 and now SGS4, in fact the two use the same exact charger, so it's worth tossing out your old ones and getting the appropriate one to take advantage of the faster charging.
However I do not believe this to be 100% true. I think not all chargers will work..
I took a charger that is very vanilla (Wall charger but the D+D- pins are NC) and it works with the S3 and NEXUS7 but does not work with the S4.
This charger uses a stock USB cable so I took a wall charger that had gone bad but had a dedicated cable and hacked off the end and wired up my own cable...
That works! So it appears that the S4 will only charge properly with certain chargers that do something to the D+D- pins (either shorting them with a resistor like the article indicates
I then took a look at the cable I used to replace. It is a Motorola cable and it has the ID pin pulled high built into the cable... So I suspect that is required for the phone to work... But to fast charge it will need the special sauce indicated above!
Had the same issue and found the solutions which worked for me. Go into the developer mode and deactivate the usb debug mode.
Had the exact same issue. I took a soldering iron to my charging port on my phone. Problem solved. The ID pin had a bad joint.

I have a strange issue, my s4 is detected by pc, charges normally with usb ( wall or pc charge ) my battery is full but when I take the cable from microUSB port and s4 should work with the battery, turns off and consumes no battery, it's like refusing to use the battery and that it is full! battery checked on a sph l 720
I've tried installing other roms with safestrap but I still have the same problem, refuses to consume battery and while the battery is at 100% ,my s4 shows 0% if I disconnect the usb cable... game over. However, I can be on the safestrap menu for hours only with the battery, no problem, is a problem of rom I think but did not know how to fix it .. : (
I'm having the same issue as the original poster. The USB port is good, charges fine when connected to PC (although much slower because of different mVS). Have tried amidst everything and nothing fixes it. I've turned debugging mode off and back on, restore to backup, complete wipe and reinstall of 2 ROMs with and without apps, fix permissions, different kernels, different USB cables... The adaptor is in good condition. But when plugged in while on my phone doesn't recognize that's it's connected. Previously out would give a false charging reading. If off sometimes I got the grey bar battery but note is just vibrating every few seconds. Idk what to do...

I had the same problem. S4 will recognize charger as USB charger, not AC. solution was to clean usb port connector, was some cloth covering wires. then restarted and worked ok
I am having trouble charging the phone the same way. I have reset the phone 3 times and still can't get a charge.
Has there been anyone else experiencing an issue with the wireless charger since the last security update.
Now instead of charging the phone like it did before, it just holds it at the level it is at.
Anyone know why this is happening now, and how to fix so it charges?
Thanks.
You have gone to the menu item fast wireless charging?

Any Updates?
Hey, do the downgrade to PE1 with full wip, and put 100%, your working fast charging. Good luck. To me it helped.
I'm on PH7 and wireless charging works fine for me.
Wireless charging has never been an issue for me with any update. Might be purely coincidental, but you can also try a factory reset incase a setting or system file got skewed.
Have you checked the charger with another phone, or another charger with your Edge. It's possible the charger coincidentally failed at the same time.
My USB fast charging doesn't work. Wireless charging works faster than USB with different fast chargers. I have tried 6 of them and still not getting fast USB charging anymore. It is checked to fast charge also. All happened after the PJ3 update.,
Have you tried different cables, too? If the original charger and cable don't fast charge your phone, it's probably time for warranty service.
So I have a couple of generic QC2.0 car chargers in my car and wife's car.. I've had them a year or so? They work fine on my note 4, and they did work on my my S7E while on MM.... I've noticed since the N7.0 upgrade they are no longer "quick charging"? The option is set on my phone, and it does quick quick at home with the wall wart but not in the car anymore?
Anyone else notice this since the nougat update?
I had this happen in my car after the last mm update... cleared cache, hard reboot, and pulled the charger out and put it back in. One of those fixed it. Probably the cache/ reboot

I'll try to report back, I tried the root method available for nougat and thru all the tinkering I fubar the phone. So I had (wanted) to wipe, factory reset and did a completely fresh clean install of N 7.0 nougat. So fingers crossed.
Well, I did a complete factory reset and fresh install of Android 7.0 Nougat, but my car charger is still no longer quick charging my S7E on N. I don't know the make and model of the car charger I have with qc2.0, it's not a Samsung branded one.... I wonder if android 7.0 changed something on how it recognizes the qc2.0 chargers? The house (samsung branded) still work but the car ones do not.

I would be suspicious of the cable more than the charger itself. I've had multiple 3rd party cables that (for lack of a better term) seem to have got "fried" and would only allow standard charge speeds. Switching cables resulted in fast charge working again. Your phone itself detects the current as soon as you connect the cable, and if it isn't able to draw what it needs to fast charge - even from a QC charger - it won't.
FWIW - none of my QC chargers are branded. They're all Anker or Aukey.

That's a good point, I'm using the cable that came with the charger... its a good solid cable, but you know that goes I will try another cable - that's a good idea. I'll report back when I do. Thanks for that suggestion.
I had problems with fast charging not working until a reboot or leave it unplug for a few minutes then plug it back in then it works flawlessly

Since the new update mine and my partners s7 won't fast charge, we both have official samsung chargers, we've even tried family members chargers and still the same, I've been in touch with samsung and they just told me to factory reset the phones which I did and still doesn't work, hope it gets fixed soon!!
Absolutely check the CABLE as the culprit. I have an old 6ft Belkin micro usb 2.0 cable that only fastcharges half of the time I use it on my Aukey QC2.0 adapters. I suppose a few factors could be in play here: oxidation buildup on the terminals, worn wiring insulation due to heat and/or bends. Maybe I'm drunk. Lol
Forgot to update. I've tried a few cables none allow quick charging on the car adapter. They do charge at 2.0amp and those same cables will charge quick charge in the house.... So, either my car adapter has suddenly stopped doing quick charge or something mysterious has happened to my specific S7E.
I'll have to try with my note 4 in the car and see what happens.

Mines dont quick charge either. Now how the heck do 100k a year coders miss this? They had to knew
Was gonna start a thread about this issue a couple days ago. Been having issues with fast charging ever since the update. I would connect the charger, it would say fast charging but revert to normal charging. Sometimes it would say fast charging for the duration but be slow as balls.
I found that shutting my phone down and charging it that way does a fast charge fine however.
I wonder what changed? At least in my case, I have 2 QC2.0 car chargers, from different vendors... one is from ebay the other I bought at Fry's electronics - and neither will quick charge now. I guess whatever handshake happens to enable quickquick isnt present since the nougat upgrade oh well... I am glad to see others are having the same or similar issues - at least I'm not crazy.
Mine still fast charges on my qc2.0 vehicle charger after nougat. *shrug* ill post a link to the one I'm using in just a sec...

wireless fast charging not working.
Since the security update my wireless fast charging does not work on my samsung wireless charger. if i unplug it and plug directly into phone it fast charges fine. anyone else having that same issue? fast charge works fine with car and battery backpack fast charger too.

fast charging works with my car charger and at home I use the factory charging brick and cable which also works fine. I also use a wireless Samsung fast charger but I haven't checked it works on that being I only set my phone on there before I go to bed.
I had issues with Quick Charge right after Nougat update, Just got my SM-G935T from T-Mobile last Friday.
To fix it I had to clear the cache and disable and reenable quick charge under system battery advanced options. and everything started working fine again.
I also had issues with wireless charging on a stock Samsung "Fast Charger" and ended up having to replace the usb cable from the power adapter to the samsung wireless 'fast charger' it seems after the Note 7 issues, samsung put some quality control software in the nougat updates for the S7 and S7 Edge, and if there is anything slightly off things won't work because of the new samsung QC steps.

Go to Settings (COGWHEEL ON NOTIFICATION BAR)
Then Select "DEVICE MAINTENANCE"
Then SELECT "Battery" bottom left
Then go to "Advanced Settings" using the drop down menu at the top left (... vertically)
Toggle "Fast cable charging" turn it off reboot phone then turn it back on.
You can also just type "Battery" in the settings search then go to "Advanced Settings" that way.
wiping cache, disabling, reboot and enable didn't work on mine. Seems its doing it no matter how or where im charging it now. it says fast charging but it's not if you look at the amount of time its taking (approx 20 mins per 10%)
Like mentioned in the title, my fast wireless charging works, and when I put my phone on the pad it tells me it is fast wireless charging. However, whenever I try to use the cable directly and not wireless charging, it becomes cable charging which is incredibly slow (8-10 hours for 50%).
I have obviously checked all the simple steps. I'm using the adaptive charger, I'm using a good cable, fast charging is turned on in settings. I even tried factory reseting my phone but still no luck.
Is it possible that my charging port is loose? And if so is there any way to fix this?
The other possibility I'm thinking of is that my Europe to America convertor might be bad (I have the international version so I have to use the plug convertor) I recently lost the one that came in the box so I had to buy a new one off amazon. Are there such good things as good and bad convertors or are they all the same. And if it is the convertor, why would the wireless charging work but the cable charging not.
EDIT: I just checked plugging in an S6 to the cable and it says fast charging. Does that mean it is definitely the port on my phone?

May sound odd but have you tried unplugging and replugging the charger in over and over to see if one of those times it pops up as fast charging?
i had this problem with my Note 5 (im in the UK and note 5 was not released here so i had to buy a Russian variant and they sent with 2pin to 3pin adapter)
I don't think i ever had a fix for this other than using a different fast charger without the adapter..
However like you The official note 5 charger with adapter does work to charge my s7e fine though
so our problems seem pretty similar... Maybe buy a new fast charger that doesn't require an adapter and try that?
Hello,
i'm new here and i'd be glad if someone can help me. So i got my phone a month ago and i noticed that while its charging (with the original charger) and while using it in the same time it almost does not charge at all, still when it's not used it does actually fast charge. As a previous samsung user, i never had this issue with samsung phones (they always fast charged even on heavy use).
That's one problem, the second one is scrolling isn't smooth. Yet my internet speed is 1GB at home although i don't see it related, overall scrolling let's say for example Facebook, snapchat, browser, it gets slow at few times and it ain't smooth like i expected it to be.
My device isn't even rooted so i haven't messed with it anyhow, running usual diagnostics and clearing apps regularly, downloaded just few social media apps so no heavy games on the phone but still i can't figure out if it's just my phone or is it the lg g6 like that.
thank you
1st i wanted to mention maybe the problem is your outlet in house but, yes G6 is charging slower when you use it on your charger.. And when it comes to fast charging to mine it tooks 1h and 40min from 0-100% bit slower than competiton models, but again fast enough.
When it comes on smoothness i am on V10T EU update and the phone has no laggs at all. It did had on past versions. But with this V10T i hadn't had any smoothness issue.. It really is great, and for playing with the phone while charging i wouldn't recommend that. It can really take effect on your battery.
Powered by LG G6
The scrolling lag sounds like there might be something making the phone work hard. Heavy usage would also make it charge more slowly than expected, because some of that power is going to operate the phone rather than into the battery. BUT I don't think it would prevent the "fast charging" text on the display.
It is remarkable how badly-behaved apps can be - I'd remove/disable your apps one at a time and see if one of them is responsible.
Try a fully compliant aftermarket quick charge 3.0 charger, it should charge much faster. Unlike a QC 3.0 charger, the charger bundled with the phone does not include 12V charging mode, so it's not allowing the phone to charge as fast as the phone can handle (the phone is fully quick charge 3.0 compliant and can charge faster than the bundled charger is capable of doing).

Yup, that's true. BUT I have s7 and g6 and both are slowly charging when I'm using them, phone would get too hot if it would fast charge while using it
I appreciate all your replies guys. Thank you.
Although i noted i dont have any heavy apps or heavy usage, the scrolling lag seems like a lag to me because i got used to faster phones before. Or maybe it is the original cable i need to change as you guys said. Anyway thanks again
I also encountered slow charging problems, but it seemed to be the cable, in some position it worked and in some it did not. I've bought an one plus dash cable for about 10 $, red one, and no problems since then. The cable is more thicker and robust, I highly recommend it.
Hi, I've got this problem: sometimes when I plug my G6 to the charger, a popup message comes out saying:
Charging slowly
Try the following if charging is slow:
- make sure to completely remove any water or debris from the USB ports.
- reconnect both ends of the cable.
- use the charger and cable that came with the phone.
Sometimes, instead, the phone starts charging normally with fast charging. If that popup comes out and I try to unplug and plug USB cable a couple of times, the phone starts charging again with fast charge.
Sometimes, when the phone is already charging with fast charge, suddenly the phone stops charging for a couple of seconds and starts again (I notice it because of the popup sound that comes if you plug the phone to USB)
I even tried to clean USB port, swapped the original USB cable with Anker cable but still using the original LG charger.
Of course there is no water in the port, otherwise a moist detector message would appear.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Can I solve buying a new charger? I'm afraid USB port might be broken

Yeah i found that funny that LG lied and tried to get by on using the chargers from the failed lg G5 shipped with the G6. They only support 2.0 charging so just use the cord and use another 3.0 block or get a portable 3.0 power pack. They are 20 bucks on amazon. Good ones too.
