So my tablet has recently contracted a backlight bleed, and I'm RMAing the thing to Asus. They have asked for the serial number be clearly printed somewhere, and if it is not also on the device the warranty is void.
I'm confused - there was never a sticker on the device at all, nor is there anything on the box. The only way to find it out on the device is to go into Settings --> About --> Status, but I'm not sure this is correct. Could anyone post the first few characters of their serial, and also inform me if I must have mistakenly peeled off a sticker or something?
Thanks!
I believe you are correct in thinking that is the serial number they are asking for. I found this page which verifies it:
https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/3333000?hl=en
The number should have also been on the box somewhere but may have been called the CSSN. This number should nonetheless by the same as the serial number displayed in the About Tablet section.
I'm planning to buy a used S4 through a local website that offers a space for people to display ads for their phones (something like Swappa), but the problem is that :
- I have seen many fake products which looked exactly the same and even have TouchWiz on JB. What's more confusing is that most of these products have a printed valid IMEI number.
- used phones might have hidden problems with their sensors, or hardware in general even if they are genuine.
Questions:
01- I though I might compare the valid printed IMEI with the one I get when dialing *#06#, but I'm not sure if that number can be faked as well, can it?
02- Is there a systemic way of checking the sensors, cam, microphone, wifi etc by an app or something similar?
03- I think a benchmark tool like Antutu's can help to see the exact specs and compare them to the original ones. Can some of you take a screenshot of the exact specs as they appear in Antutut Benchmark or Android System Info.
04- How to know if a genuine S4 has been flashed before if it has an unrooted stock rom at the moment of checking?
05- Any advice on what to look for when examining a used S4?
PS: I will have physical access to the phone before buying.
Im not sure about the answer to these questions
but I can help with this

The Device Info tab of the same Antutu results you sent. It's on the top right; just click and send a screen.
And the same goes with Android System Info; install the app and send me a screen of the System tab. It's the second tab from the left.
have fun
Here are some codes that access various functions of the phone.
Most useful:
*#0*# - this will give you access to a test mode, where you can try various functions (cameras, speaker, display, sensors)
*#06# - to compare the IMEI displayed by the software with the one on the phone

well, you can check if your phone is genuine or not simply by using this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
if your phone is fake samsung it won't detect at all
second use this app to detect your hardware info and sensor
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.inkwired.droidinfo
i always have this 2 apk stored in my sdcard so i can install and check the phone if i'm buying 2nd hand phone
P.S:i've been using these method since i've been scammed once for buying fake samsung galaxy s4 because it has fake antutu app
Conclusion
I searched a lot and here's a systematic test.
*#06# (dial it on the phone itself)
to get the IMEI number and compare it to the one printed on the package and the warranty certificate if any is present.
Droid Hardware Info and Phone INFO ★Samsung★ (apps from Google Play)
use these two apps to check the hardware specs (like processor, number of cores, GPU, ram, etc)
Diagnostic Menu *#0*# (again dial the number on the phone itself)
and test all the items
Connect to a laptop to check if it's read properly.
Use a Micro SD to check if it's read properly and try to copy a couple of small files to it.
volume down – power – and home to get to download mode it should say
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
if Custom appears somewhere in current binary or system status, the phone has been flashed before.
Check the battery look and weight and connect charger and see percentage/min.
NOTE: There's a faulty battery batch whose serial starts with BD1 you can find more info in this thread
Check the hand and headset buttons and their buttons. And rotate the 3.5 mm jack while playing some music to see if there's a problem with its socket appearing as distortion in sound.
I purchased 3 g2 d802 from ebay (HK top rated seller)
The phones came rooted.
When i check for system updates i geg the message "your phone is not registered yet" on 2/3 phones. 3rd one says "no update available".
When i check imei at lg site its not recognized.
Seller says phones are ok and it is probably a mistake.
Im afraid if the phones are stolen lg will block them, can they do it? I know google can....
Maybe the phones were indeed stolen and the seller changed the IMEI to a random one because the original IMEI was blocked. You can remove the back housing and check if the IMEI that is written on the sticker inside the housing is the same as the one reported by the device when you enter *#06#.

Imei number is the same at the sticker on the back and the *#06# and the settings.
The question is - in case it is stolen - can my phone be blocked in the future??

Yes.
Hi there,
Today I just opened my back cover to replace the battery and I noticed that on the wifi module (on the left hand side of the rear camera lens) it says "I9500" although I own I9505 model. Though on the opposite side, it says I9505. Is it normal? Can any I9505 users confirm this?
It wouldn't be the first frankenphone.
Anyway, that's normal.
