how to do incremental backups? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

hello,
Smart Switch does full backups only (i.e., each time it will copy all phone contents)
how can we copy just what's new, since the latest backup? it will save a lot of time and space.
kind regards,
Aldo

Anybody able to help?
Any alternative to Samsung Smart Switch, for doing incremental backups?

I don’t find smart switch does a full backup. It’s supposed to, but I’ve lost a few items each time I’ve ever used it

Buying S4 What to do first?

Hi guys
Getting the S4 in a week (maybe 2) and wondered what I should do first before I transfer data over etc.
I want to root my phone so that would be my first objective. What is the best way?
Re the bloatware, is it easily removed as yet and what is worth keeping and not keeping.
For now I would like to keep the rom as it comes (if possible) until such time I choose to change it.
Thanks for your help and advice!

I'll suggest you do a full system backup. Just in case you encounter some problem during rooting, you can always restore back to the backup.
- First of all, enter download mode and flash custom recovery using Odin. I recommend using Philz Touch Recovery.
- Make sure flash is success.
- Boot into custom recovery and do a nandroid backup.

Hi,
Ask your carrier to send you one.
Root and backup your EFS file first.:cyclops:
1)You can root but dont flash custom rom. There is no way to recover/ no stock rom that is 100% failproof. There is an update to mf3 so you need to update and then use the "new root method for att mf3".
2) exchanging files is going to be different. Wheen you plug in the phone, no usb data switcher on 4.2.2. Use samsung link
3) buy an otg cable
4)buy an otterbox
5) fill the phone with apps from 4shared
6) recommend playing with sensor apps because there are many sensors on this thing
I'll add as I think about it.

Important: try not to update and keep mdl and root that way and stop auto updates.
There is a way to root with mf3 if you still want ota updates from att to remain

I'm going to update to any new firmware or android version that shows up over the air.
Then look to root afterwards.

Hi,
I'm thinking about switching to S4 and wondering if I can TB backup my note 2 and restore in the new S4? Which restore option should I use? Appreciate it.
Thanks,
Peter

Yes you can but you may have issues with some apps not being compatible with your device & settings not being completely restored.
See here. Your question is answered on this page of a TB tutorial (great tutorial by the way)

Just backup in the SD card and then put the SD card to N3 and restore. I did that from s2 to note 10.1 and ended up to note 3
Or you can try helium.

Any way to transfer apps data without root (TB etc)?

Hi all,
I want to transfer my apps data but without root, any way to do it?
I tried google backup and restore it didn't work also tried Samsung Switch and no go either. Any other way that works?
Nothing as far as I've found
Helium backup/restore?
I've not personally tried with my S7E, but it's always worked in the past.

Nothing can restore your app data without root.

Helium backup does work, I've used it to backup data from my Xperia Z2 then restore that to my S7 Edge. Worked like a charm.
Though I'm not sure it works for all apps or not, the ones I tried, sure worked. Give it a try, no harm to do so.

I beg to differ, one in particular, that is snapchat. Depending on the developer of the application if data backups are or aren't allowed. In my case not being rooted did not work.

Does anyone have a way to backup app data before unlocking your bootloader?

BTV-W09 Model.
Build BTV-W09C128B351 with EMUI 5.0 and Android 7.0
Is the built in backup not sufficient? It appears as if it will backup apps and their settings and allow you to save it to SD.
By built in are you referring to Huawei or Google's backup?

Huawei backup. It doesn't seem to compress the created file very well but should contain both settings and data.

I'll try this. For some reason my tablet didn't include huawei's backup and i had to manually find an apk.
That's interesting that you didn't have it; I have the same build as your's.
Please do report back on your results.

I'm curious, did you find a way to unlock after you had upgraded to EMUI 5.0? I haven't figured out how to get an unlock code without downgrading.

nope, tried many a times, and talked to support like 5 times.
Never actually got the unlock code
What did the support people tell you? Did you consider buying a code from dc-unlocker.com?
