Official Android 7 for G4 Play? - Moto G4 Play Questions & Answers

From what I have read Android 7 is out for the Moto g4 Play, but I have not gotten the update yet. Is the rom available to download and install manually?

moto x model number

this is a very old question, and i actually know what the solution is, but i cant seem to get it to work on my rooted moto x.
my moto x is of model number xt1058 but when i got to download and install the motorolla camera app, or the gallery app it says that my devidce is not supported, i suppose it s because they dont support my model numer or something like that.
i have allready tried the... buildpro file. but its not working, when i first tried it couldnt save, so i restarted my phone in recovery mode, and it worked, but still i cant download these 2 apps.
any way to get this working for the moto x?
am running android 4.2.2, rooted, xt1058, from claro in Colombia, latin america.

i dont really think its the apk, ever since i got the phone i havent been able to install the camera app, and that when the camera app was just put on the store. same for the gallery app.
in colombia we havent gotten the kitkat update yet, so am waiting to see if after the update i might be able to update the camera app as well.

Yah, try after you get the update, I know the new gallery works only on kitkat but I do believe theres a flashable zip in the nexus 5 theme threads that has the new moto gallery

The camera app is different between 4.2.2 and 4.4.x.

Rooting when updated to 5.0.1

Hi all. I am getting my new Moto G today (XT1068) and want to have lolipop but also need root. I was wondering how I would do this? Also if I do manage to get root while on 5.0.1 can I use OTA to 5.0.2 or would I need to un-root first? I am new to rooting so I'd like the easiest way possible, thanks for your time!
Hello,
I'd like to say hello to everyone and BIG thanks for the community as a whole. This place is pure awesomeness.
I've got similiar question to OP. Got the retaildsdsall xt1068, haven't unlocked or rooted before and I'm currently on 5.0.2, 22.21.28.titan_retaildsds.retaildsdsall.en.03 reteu
I've been on retaildsdsall and upgraded using to newly captured OTA zip from SOAK for the xt1068, by copying it to the root of sd and upgrading using normal ota updater.
Everything went fine!
My question is, what is the most reliable way to root my device?
Is there any possibility to root without having to unlock? Will Chainfire's autoroot[dot]chainfire[dot]eu work for me? I read that there is a version which is ok for Lollipop, updated by Chainfire, but I can't seem to find it or confirm that it'll work.
Please shed some light on to that. Any experiences?
Hi @Reizoko & @Silent_Infiltrator
1. You have to unlock Bootloader to Root.
2. Install TWRP Recovery
3. Download and Flash latest BETA of SuperSU v2.44
Thats all
Note: You can't use OTA to update while rooted. You have to do a full unroot.

Right, seems easy enough. I guess I'll wait with stock unrooted until a bug-free version of 5.0 is out, will be good to make sure phone is all right aswell...

Well, the Brazil Soak Test version of Lollipop is really smooth and Bug Free, the Indian version.. Not so much! If you want to try Lollipop, I would recommend the Brazil Soak Test.
Hey
Just wanted to give quick heads-up on to the matter of rooting 5.0.2. Thanks for the tips, I did it as follows:
1. Got my European Moto G xt1068 (dual-sim version) updated to 5.0.2 using captured OTA zip here.
2. Unlocked my bootloader by following official Motorola guide.
3. Downloaded newest TWRP 2.8.4.0 from Original Development.
4. Used Fastboot to only boot TWRP by executing: fastboot boot twrp.img
5. Flashed newest SuperSU 2.44.
6. Enjoying root.
Thanks!

Why the hell are you telling him to install a xt1069 over xt1068? Tell me onde thing, but are you on drugs or dont have a clue about you are talking about? Never, but never install a version that is not designed for your phone version. Before you post such thing, please do some research or dont say anything.

You do your research. Did you even go through the Moto G 2014 forums??? Read through and then post.

Krishna is not wrong as the XT1068 and 69 are pretty much the same. Only difference is the modems and radios I believe.

So they are different... Custom ROMs can work on both, but not original ROMs.

I speak out of experience. I installed the XT1069 Lolipop 5.0,5.0.1 and no probs at all. I followed the methods posted in this forum.
I was not giving a vague advice.

Stagefeight Concerns

Hi everyone,
Is there anything we can do against the stagefright exploit on a stock moto G?
Using Google Messenger app for texting/MMS, not rooted, not blunlocked, full 5.1 Stock.
(Any solution OTHER than flashing CM12.1 would be appreciated )
Edit: Has Motorola said anything about it?

Disable auto-retrieve option for mms messages if there is any in your SMS/MMS app, use firefox (latest build 38), don't download any media files like mp4, etc. and wait for a patch/update.
And to answer your second question, yes they did. For more info and concerns look here:

I'm using Textra as my default SMS app and they have provided an update that fixes the bug from the app side.
OK say the official Motorola response is:
"All of our newly launched products (Moto X Style, Moto X Play, and Moto G 3rd Gen) will have the patch integrated in the software. We'll include it in the remaining planned Lollipop upgrades as soon as possible. We’re working with our partners to update phones that have already received the Lollipop upgrade.*We are still working through the feasibility to support older devices that are not getting Lollipop"
Am I correct in thinking we are in the 3rd group? The ones that have Lollipop? Therefore a true patch is coming?

Here you can test if your ROM is safe: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zimperium.stagefrightdetector

[Update] New update for Moto X play?

So i've been reading this site
http://en.yibada.com/articles/10240...moto-x-style-moto-x-force-and-moto-x-2014.htm
They say that our Moto X play is gonna get the latest marshmallow update, I'm confused, is Moto X play's gonna have 6.0.1 update or nah? :/
can anyone explain to me about this?

Most probably no. There is not going to be an update to 6.0.1 in near future.

My girlfriend's XT1092 got the update to the version in the title yesterday. Meanwhile, my UK XT1092 still is to receive it.
Anyone else here got it?

Is it still 6.0 or have they upgraded to 6.0.1 ?
Still shows as 6.0 but should have parity with 6.0.1

I'd also like to know, if the lag is still there in stock 6.0
The whole reason why I am running CM 13 nightlies on custom kernel as daily driver..

It is just a security update, they didn't make any changes other than fix vulnerabilities.

Guess this means no 6.0.1 update like the X Play and Moto G 2015 now getting. Shame as hopped the bluetooth issue would be resolved

I'm still not seeing it on Pure Edition XT1095 in US/AT&T.
Is that release page specific to a certain Moto X 2nd gen variant?
Edit: Did you receive it? If yes, where?
I'm in the UK and no sign here.
The link seems to go to the US Moto website so I guess its related to there.

It's a mind thing. If you really want, you can flash Nexus Experience rom, best thing to happen to Moto X in a while.

Can't... Need a stock unrooted device for my work emails.
Don't want to make this into a Moto bashing rant (next time I'm buying a nexus!), so will just wait for the update.

Could you tell me the Build Number, please? I'm gonna try to find a fastboot image of it ...
