Battery draining is subjective to personal use. I never heard problems like this with battery. You should have a rough app, or more than one, that is affecting the battery. Try finding that/those apps with a battery monitor app.
You'll get more help if you ask in an appropriate thread in the forums rather then creating a new one on this topic. Just a kind suggestion.
I agree with OP, i bought this phone Feb 15 and im STILL having problems with rapid battery drainage even when not using the phone! updated the phone already how many times and im on the latest build 9.5.9.0. I tried a hard reset last night, erased everything just so i can test if battery will improve, and it sadly didnt, it was still draining the battery quickly even with only stock apps installed. I dont know wtf is the problem but im pretty pissed off as i paid 230 euros for it and i dont think i can return it or exchange it for another phone but ill try if theyre nice, i have 1 yr warranty, i hope they can do something. I mean what good is a phone without a proper battery? I dont want to have to worry about battery life all day everyday like im taking care of some infant..
Not to mention the other bugs im experiencing like:
-issues zooming in on photos in the camera app's photo preview button. i try pinching to zoom but it wont. it acts like i want to swipe left or right.. stupid. double-tap also not work.
-proximity sensor during calls is bugged, screen turns on randomly and does random stuff to annoy you, very nice.
-mobile internet (4G) sometimes doesnt work for reasons unknown... what good is a phone without internet? nothing, reading books i guess... not that guy
anyone else have these problems?
should i start installing custom roms see if that will change anything?
im convinced otherwise that my phone has a hardware defect since how is it possible that others with the same phone and build number say its working flawlessly and others like me still have this daunting battery issues? it doesnt make sense..
Try installing custom ROMs like AOSPExtended, plus, install a custom kernel: MetaPheonix.
My battery lasts for 2 days.
The only issue I face is that the display randomly turns on.
4G Mobile data work.
No issues while zooming in.
No battery drain.

Hello there I'm new here.
Begging developer.
Question is there any rom updates released ?
I have similar, or even worse problem. My Xiaomi Mi A1 loses around 30% battery overnight WHEN THE PHONE IS OFF, it can discharge completely while off. When I bought it it was off. I changed the battery, the problem persists. What the hell is this? I have never experienced battery drain in a switched off smartphone.

The problem with his battery drain isn't due to rough apps.
This is a more frequent issue being observed in Mi A1 and most of the times it's due to a wakelock called "700000.ssusb" and no one seems to have a solution as to how to turn it off.

For everyone who has posted issues with battery drain, can you install a battery monitoring app - Gsam or Better battery stats and grant it sufficient privilèges? Once you do that, you'll be able to identify what is causing the battery drain, mostly should be a wakelock, if not we'll get to know what it is.

AkCullen, many thanks for your answer. I can't believe I bought such a crap as Xiaomi A1 with battery draining when the phone is off. I spent so much time on trying to do sth about this already that I doubt I'll ever buy any Xiaomi again. Anyway, many thanks for suggestions! I tried to choose "enable more stats" in Gsam (is this what you are suggesting to do, or you are speaking of other permissions?), but I cannot "grant access with root" (unable to get superuser authority= no root?) and alternatively the app asks me to connect to computer and enable some ADB, which leaves me clueless and it way too much for a non-information-scientist as myself.
Is there a manual way to deal with those wakelocks that a non-specialist user can perform, or I must ask for warranty service? I measured discharge rates and in 5 hours, when off, my Mi A1 loses at least 20-25% of battery charge....

Go with the second option. Connecting to a computer and running a command via adb. It's pretty simple, connect your phone to the computer, enable USB debugging in developer options, download adb in your computer (the simpler version which is about 2mb) and run a command that gsam gives you.
And this is only to narrow down the issue, not to fix it.
I've been dealing with this issue for the past couple of months and it's frustrating. The service center can't help me in here because they don't even understand what the issue is.
I've been having the same issues lately. I don't use my phone much during the day, I'd say screen on time totals 30 minutes. Some days when I plug into my charger at 1:00am I'm sitting at 5% remaining, and other days I could have 55% left. I think it all depends on apps being ran, for sure. I think the improvement happens when I reboot the phone before I take it off the charger in the morning. Also, clearing all the recent apps seems to help a little.
But I do think it comes down to Xiaomi to improve the state of their operating system, either through Android or by implementing something themselves. It's really easy to cause a drainage to happen and difficult to stop it without something extreme like a reboot. I've just made it habit in the mornings to reboot the phone and clear recent apps and rarely have an issue.
My A1 Redmi went on to last 4 hours on after upgrading to Oreo. But I returned to the Nougat and the problem persists. Is it a physical fault?
If it is not a hardware problem, does Nougat solve the problem?

Edit: just so u know that that the process irq/325-k3g is causing the android os issue. Once again this process is only visible in the free app osmonitor. I let it run wild for couple of hours and it drained my battery excessively and also made android os go up to 50% battery usage. So it seems the culprit for the android os drain is process irq/325-k3g.
The process is just showing consumption when the drain happens and NOT all the time. So if u see your battery dropping quickly have a look to see if the process is consuming CPU . /Edit
Right, so ive observed lately that when my battery starts dropping % quickly that a process called irq/k325-k3g is consuming a lot of CPU.
This is only visible with the app osmonitor under process.
This randomly happens and seems to be triggered by the stock browser.
If the process kicks up it won't stop on its own, I can't stop that process in osmonitor and thus causing excessive battery drain cause it continousely uses cpu. The only way to stop this process is by killing internet (browser.apk).
I had the same problem on all roms I've tried so maybe someone else suffering from this find this helpful.
This doesn't solve the root of the problem but atleast its a temp fix.
Any feedback appreciated.

The problem is that everyone is quite about this problem. Battery life is rubbish and no one is putting forward any advice or detailed fix for the problem.
So back to your solution mate, does this process work when you use opera mini? I never use the stock browser.

A coworker showed me his SGS2 today : uptime 2days 23h and still 39% battery remaining..

1) No airplane mode
2) No wifi at all
3) No gapps autosync
4) No task killer
5) some phone calls (20 minutes), a few sms and browsing. A little gaming too..
I have the same config : but poweroff after 1d and 6 hours...

why he did not got a usual phone .
The problem is the huge battery drain in idle mode , i had a galaxy s before the drain was 1.5% per hours now i am getting 8-10% per hour

To be honest I thought my battery life on my Nokia N900 was crappy, max 2 days, usually though 1 1/2 days but coming on to my first Android, battery lasts me less than 17 hours on average lol
I was surprised, I was expecting more actually considering it is a more mature OS than Maemo, might have better battery management. Guess I was wrong haha.
That said I keep my phone charged to my PC when ever I am at work so it doesnt really bother me much.
Ever thought that maybe you've all got an awesome phone, maybe just playing with it quite a lot more than you would have any other phone.
I know i am, but when i had a day off playing it lasted 2days with 37% left.

Well, for me the battery is good. I don't use phone much for gaming and surfing but there are a lot of calls, maybe 3-4 hrs of call time or more. Also I keep quitting running services like social hub, voice command etc.

Voice calls isn't a way to check your battery life. As soon as you hold the phone near your ear, screen turns off. For proper checking, you have to surf internet via Wi-Fi/3G, play Games, watch Movies etc..Just keep the screen on. I think if you even talk 6/7 hours per day (and do nothing else) then the GS II will last for more than 2 days, surely. Voice calls can't be a way to check battery, for any phone.

Yes I know voice isn't a way to check battery. But like I said its good for me. I previously had iPhone 3G which I used like I use my GS2 and it gave me hardly 5-6 hrs usage of battery. So happy with GS2. I'll test my battery life by playing games and surfing and all that and I'll let you know the result.

That would be kind of you.
For me, on Wi-Fi, at Auto Brightness in stock browser, with SetCPU set in Ondemand mode, battery drains at a rate of 18-20% per hour (I don't let the screen off). Lets see if yours are better or not

I have on my Samsung Galaxy S2 as well as on my Samsung Galaxy Note a huge battery drain caused to 2 processes : "events/0" and "suspend".
I have already read a lot of threads concerning this problem, but without finding a solution.
I found out, that I only have this bug, when activating my Wifi connection (on both devices). I tried every wifi sleep policy, still getting same results.
So finally, my Android OS battery usage is more than 50%, even more than my display.
Does anyone know a solution for this problem, considering that now I'm sure that it's linked to the wifi activation on both phones. (I did a factory reset and there was no battery drain until I activated Wifi without having any other apps installed, besides of System Panel to monitor....)

If your phone is rooted you should 'freeze' or remove the apps "Wifi sharing manager" and "Wifi sharing" with Titanium Backup. Fixes your Wifi-problems.
It's a service that looks for other Samsung Wifi devices constantly when Wifi is turned on, thus draining the battery.
No, my Phone isn't rooted. I was not sure if I should or not, considering the warranty problems. Is there no other way?

As far as I know, it doesn't really void your warranty as long as you do it the right way and unroot your phone before you send it back to Samsung (if problems occur).
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
As an alternative you can disable WiFi when you are not using it with apps like Green Power and Juice Defender (although I strongly advise Green Power for it's ease of use).

In the first week that I got the Note, the device is eating up about 10% of batter per hour even when idle. The way that I use this Android phone was no difference than other Android devices I have used. When checked the battery usage, I was stunt to find that the Android OS was using 90% of the battery. Funny is that the screen showed a usage of 20minutes, while the OS showed a usage of almost 3 hours.
Soon after, I decided to do a factory reset due to other reasons. Some how this problem went away and the usage is back to normal. I don't know what happened, but in my case, it solved the issue.
Also I don't use the Note as a phone, but rather as a mini-tablet when I am not at home. So I decided to put the device in Flight mode when it is not in use. In this mode, the device hardly uses any battery. For example when I went to sleep, the battery was at 79%. When I woke up 7 hours later, the battery still shows 79%.

How about you stop ASS-uming about devices that you don't own. The Galaxy Note is faster, smoother, lighter, and more portible than your Motorola tablet. The only tablet that can match or even outperform the Note is the Galaxy tab so have fun with your soon to be obsolete tablet.
OT: Your issue may be fixed with a factory reset.

Did you try the app "Green Power". It is pretty good and promising. It will turn off Wifi / 3g while it is not using, it save much power. The paid version just including the 'night' mode.
I'm suddenly facing this issue. Have had no problem with the battery so far. My battery went from 40% to 15% overnight with the screen off and wifi off. :s

Edit one more time: I found the battery draining really fast just now too: 15%-12% in about 20 minutes.
Clearing the RAM seems to have stopped that though.
I really do think it's the wi-fi sharing/manager processes. I've frozen mine to see if that makes any difference.
It's exactly the same for me, with the suspend and events/0 processes...

I solved my problem thanks to a tip on this forum. I just did a factory reset for my ohone, and then reflashed the firmware. Its working great now

No, its not. Coze I've upgraded to 2.3.6, and then downgraded to 2.3.5 again, and my problem was still there. Only a factory reset solved my problem.
By the way, u can notice something is wrong by the amount of heat generated while using the wifi, or by how slow pc usb charging could be. It even used to discharge when connected to pc!
The amount of heat was a very strong indication that there was something wrong.
Still battery drain

as of 26 march 2012, I still have something problematic on my samsung galaxy note. I flashed last Open German firmware (LC1) (from samfirmware). The phone is rooted, and as far as I noticed the "suspend" process is still draining the most battery compared with the display ratio. I tried to wipe everything, I downgraded back from LB1 to KKA with Odin, wiped, flashed LC1 and reinstalled onyl paid apps (i.e. not with no advertises). I turned off the Wifi but the susped is still there, eating 63% of resources.
There are not special kernel wakelocks... any ideas on how to go ahead?
I have a standard non rooted rom. I also faced sudden battery drain, but use the following solution -
Folders - keep to the application page not home screens
Backlight - off when inside, 50% if outside or on charge (auto drains faster)
Browser - use one of the low power saving mode
Screen background - live wallpaper eats battery. Use a dark based wallpaper , use much less power
With all the above battery is fine. GB 2.3.6.
I've had the exact same problem as the topic starter. Android system running over 90% in standby and suspend and events/0 running at 100%. I had this problem on stock XXLA6, on Darky V3.3 XXLA6 and Rocket V23 XXLC1 and after a number of full wipes.
My wifi wouldn't turn off in standby and setting different sleep policies didn't do a thing.
I removed the Samsung Sharing app, installed GreenPower and set it to turn off wifi and 3G/data as I don't need sync when it's in standby anyway.
All problems are gone now, after an hour in standby I still have 100% charge and after browsing for 5 minutes it lowered to 99%. Suspend and events/0 no longer run when the phone is in standby, wifi is turned off and Android System is at 4% now.

Hey guys. I just got a Nexus 7 recently (sold used, but "like new", description said it was used briefly for a day and then packed back in the box again). It was working really well until I flashed this kernel. I had CM10.1 on it for a while and flashed that kernel so I could use CIFS.
After I tried this, I saw the the battery had gone from around 75% to 55% one night (over 8 hours). This is much worse than it was before, where it would only drain around 3%, or at most 5%.
I understand that my issue is probably simple: Just flash a different/old kernel or a new ROM and see if it helps. But I was wondering if there's a way to see specifically what is draining the battery. I tried getting Battery Analyzer, but says that "android keyboard" uses the most CPU, and the actual battery settings says, other than the screen, that "Media Server" is using 8% of the battery, as well as System Idle or something.
I don't know what this means exactly. But I do want to know a couple of things:
1. How can I know for sure what is causing the battery drain. Is there any way to figure it out?
2. How can I troubleshoot this, that is, I want to try disabling features and seeing how much the battery drains after that.
In the mean time, I'm gonna flash a different ROM and I'm sure that'll fix it for now. But I'll have a NAND backup just in case.

I actually found this before and tried it. It showed something with Google+ being highest with partial wakelocks, though I didn't fully understand it. I ended up removing the G+ widget from my home screen on a whim and it seemed to help a lot, only reduced 3% over 8 hours. I'd like to improve even that if possible, but that's how it was when I got it, so I'm really pleased with that. And hopefully it's not a fluke, I'll have to see what happens another night.

I use System Tuner to set the off-screen CPU max to 384, seems to help a lot.

May have well just have told him to only touch his tablet on even numbered dates and to only charge it face down on an espresso colored end table. They have the same effect on battery charge and indication that wiping battery stats does. The myth of wiping battery stats was clearly and concisely given an official debunking about a year and a half ago. If anything, wiping battery stats will hinder the OP, not help.

Try turning off the daydream. Though it shouldn't be the problem. and please attach the screen shot of your battery usage it may help us to find out what's wrong.
Install cpu spy app frm playstore nd chk ur mobile is getting deep sleep mode or not....!!

yesterday I rolled back from N to MM in order to install a fresh MM and install the N again and I still have high battery drain where Android System and AndroidOS are top battery consumers. I have high drainage when I am not using the phone too, and its not even connected to the internet too. Few days ago for two hours of not using the phone I had around 30% battery drain and I think that's not normal at all. I think that the phone is draining less battery when I am using it than I am using it...
As I said before, I have freshly installed Nougat b371, I am not rooted and the bootloader is locked.
I thought it was because I tried to install the b381 300mb version but it failed installing it and I thought it was part b371, part b381 and that was causing some problem with that and that's why I installed a fresh version of MM but that's not working too and I don't know what to do now. If you can guys help me It'd be awesome!
And I also these days never have 4g, only H+ and its losing the connection and it automatically reconnects after few seconds and I don't know why. Before I always had 4g... The fresh MM didn't solved that problem. Do you think that b381 failed installation somehow misfigured something?

Before I had 4G symbol, now I have H+. And sometime it changes to 3G but thats rare.
I dont mind the H+, but it annoys me that it disconnects all the time and reconnects after few seconds...
Disable the Google app and go to phone manager،tap cleanup then tap on the option icon on the upper right of the screen. Now tap memory clean up whitelist ,and uncheck all of the apps (recommend) or just uncheck all except the apps you don't want to close like messenger ..etc. Now go to phone manager and wait for it to load then click optimize. You'll notice a huge difference.

Disabling Google app is just like a default thing I am doing after factory reset, hahah. And I also unchecked the apps before, its like a normal thing to me after installing all the apps I need after a factory reset. The thing is the android is draining too much battery and I was asking for a way to somehow reduce it, because even if I am not using the phone it drains the battery for more than 15%, not a couple of percents... I will do a test this night and I will let you know tomorrow.
And also the phone is getting hotter than before...
That's why I did a rollback and installed all new MM, like it came from a store, to see if that'd help but nothing...
My phone had battery drain when I disabled google backup transport.
I don't use google backup. Everything is disabled, but since I enabled it, battery drain is gone.

Ummm... in my phone Google Backup Transport is already enabled...
Went to sleep at 4:00am and my phone had 90% od battery and woke up at 11:45am and I had 43% battery. Thats 47% battery drain over night.
HELP?
I also installed gsam battery monitor and combined app cpu was the highest battery drainer with 76%...
Maybe to try deleting EVERYTHING from TWRP and flash a zip file of emui 4.1? If thats better than a normal factory reset I would try that too, because factory reset didnt solved my problem...
I have the same issue on B360.
Phone Idle in Hardware Section and Android OS in software drains alot during standby. Android OS keeps the system awake.
I think they played around with the cpu governor since they removed the battery performance mode.

I found that in my case, the battery drain comes from the wifi not turning off when the phone is asleep, regardless any saving options i tick.
I discovered it while checking my wifi router, i saw my phone listed but it was un plugged from charger and locked.
I unlocked my phone and surprise, the wifi icon was already here full and ready now i'm searching a rom without those issues as i'm sure it did not do that when i flashed my first roms on this device (CM13 i think)
can some of you guys double check this issue so i can know if it's related to my device only ?

I didnt had something like that while I was using b371. When I turned the Wi-Fi off it was off.
In my case I think that there is something screwed up with the mobile network and causing battery drain and warming up the phone...
Maybe I will try a new rom, to see if the problem will be still there.

lol, yes man. does not work, i can choose any options it does never turn off the wifi while the phone is locked...
so i'm trying to do a task (tasker) to auto turn off wifi when the screen is locked.
Installed MM again yesterday, rooted the phone and installed Better Battery Stats and here are the results after the night. I had a battery drain of 30% over night.

hi, I have similar problem, during night 10-15 percent of battery drained.
i think the cause is either the google account sync, some google apps or google backup functionality.
according to power manager, the phone is awake and also OS has the most percentage in consumption.
i dont have root, do someone figure that out or at least found out the reason?

I fixed my issue by changing the mobile network to 2G/3G, not using the 4G and for some reason that was causing some problems with the battery drainage.
I rooted the phone and installed Better Battery Stats (which is working with non-rooted phones but using adb) but I couldn't make it work so I rooted the phone only for that, to see what was draining my battery so much with a lot of help of @pilgrim011.
If you have a problem with the 4G as I mentioned before, try disabling it and check the results after.
And I don't think that google's backup and sync apps were causing drainage because they obviously need an internet to work, or to back things up to be simple. If I am not wrong, haha.
Hope you'll find a fix for your problem.

Ok so i am back, and have bad news. But at least i am seeing a pattern in behavior.
Last evening i charged phone to max, before sleep ir was ok - android os little drain, android apps bigger.
After night the battery dropped from 97 to 79%, like last time i charged to max, the system was awake regurarly and all drained by android os.... i only happens during tje first night, do you have any ideas?

I bought this phone last year in july and everything was going pretty smoothly until the nougat update. It completely broke my phone.
MY PHONE GETS FULLY CHARGED IN 30-45 MINS(OBVIOUSLY A BUG).
BATTERY DRAIN IS TERRIBLE, FROM 100% TO 15-20 % IN MAXIMUM 1 HOUR.
PHONE GETS SHUT DOWN ALL OF A SUDDEN AND SHOWS WRONG BATTERY PERCENTAGE.
Now let me tell you all what I have tried to fix this and STILL TRYING. -_-
In January 2017 tried methods like factory reset, clear cache partition etc, nothing works.
Now this month I thought of going back to MM to fix the problem l, that too didn't work.( I downgraded using fastboot)
Again updated to nougat and rooted my phone for the first time, and tried some popular custom recovery. Result = No change what so ever.
Tried Elementalx kernel = No results.
Currently using the Lineage OS 14.1 latest version ( heard it's the most stable CM) = no change even after using some battery optimising apps like greenify.
Attaching battery info screenshot for reference.
If anyone found out any fix to this problem then please tell me. I feel like throwing this piece of **** in the garbage.
PS - while writing the question my battery drained almost 10%

I have unlocked my bootloader so I don't think they will help me. Correct me if I am wrong.

There's always a chance if it's a hardware failure of the battery. It depends on the service center. You should give it a try.

Did you get the battery drain issue resolved? My g4 plus is having a same issue after bought it a year but rarely use it....now after lightly used for about 15 mins, battery is down 10%. Any help is appreciated.

What firmware do you have on your device? Do you have any apps besides the standard stock apps (e.g. Google apps) on your device? How strong is your signal?
You may wish to download Better Battery Stats (free version here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 ) or GSAM Battery Monitor to check if there's any apps or processes draining your battery.
Alternatively, as others have suggested, if there's no obvious draining apps, it could be a firmware issue (try a clean, complete firmware flash) or a battery issue.

1. What firmware do you have on your device? I have the original unrooted stock rom running Android 7.0 and just checked no update needed.
2. Do you have any apps besides the standard stock apps (e.g. Google apps) on your device? The G4 plus is showing i have 133 app installed and currently running Nova Launcher.
3. How strong is your signal? I am setting it at Airplane mode while turning wifi on just to listen to music and surf the web.
I will download the Better Battery Stats and GSAM Battery Monitor to monitor the battery performance.

A possible cause is that the connector between battery and motherboard is loose (so that the accu cannot give full power to the motherboard). To fix this, you need to open your phone with a t4 torx screwdriver and tweezers (look for the instruction videos on this on youtube). Disconnect and reconnect the battery cable connector to the motherboard and make sure it is well fixed.
In my case this worked like a charm, I also noticed that next to the battery having normal behavior again, the phone was also much faster. Apparently the processor speed was also tuned down as the battery could not give full power before applying this fix. Saved me 25 / 70 / 230 euros (new battery / new battery with service costs / new phone)

Thanks a lot Rinthros for your solution. My Moto G4 Plus caused same issue after having overnight charging for two consecutive nights. 2nd day morning I realized that my phone discharged with normal use in only 1 hour. And after get fully charged in only 30 minutes. It felt very sad but then found this solution by Rinthros. I did exactly the same. Opened my phone with t4 for screwdriver and disconnected battery connectors and just reconnected it. It worked for me exactly smooth and amazing. Now after doing so from last 3 days my phone working as it was previously.

I too had the same problem but actually this occurs after updating it to Oreo my battery is not fully charging and after unplugging battery percent remains same got stuck after 1hr of usage device gets shutdown due to low battery all these problem are only in stock Oreo so I downgraded to marshmallow everything works fine after a battery calibration I dont know what was the problem on Oreo guys pls help me to fix it
Thanks a lot Rinthros. My battery was original from 2016 and tired. I decided to buy a new and followed an instruction on the net. After a day or two I noticed rapid drain and quick charge . In the end I had 30 min of use before I needed to charge again. I opened the unit and, for sure, the connection between battery and motherboard was loose. Fixed this and this was very successful. Two hours later, after re-charge, my Moto 4 is still on 94%. My theory is that a floor-drop caused the disconnect. I visited another forum in search for a solution, but nothing helped. I think this solution applies to other versions of Moto. Please Lenovo, listen to Rinthros, this can save you a lot of customers. Moto is a greate phone and deserves better support.
