Same for me. Maps app takes all the battery.

Maybe you guys try disabling the Location services (a checkbox enables by default during setup after FW upgrade), and that couses drain? No idea how to disable it, though

go to google in your stock browser and below the search box u'll see an option as to whether u want share your location. u can disable there!!

do you use Latitude?

Do you have any idea about "Android OS" usage because it looks too much?

You should not have Google maps taking any power if you're not using it. I do not see in my list if I have not open it since unplugged.
Battery level can behave in a strange way for a few days. Mine dropped to 70% after being plugged and charged to 100%.
Next day it dropped from 100% to 90% and the began climbing to 94% for 30 minutes.
Usually main battery hog is the screen, you should not have those drainage with the screen off.

I don't think that it is problem, on my phone Location services is always enabled and from full to empty in 3 days (look at picture)

Right, that not the problem. I have used maps, location and latitude services on other roms too. I get 2 days without recharge. Or alteast one day with heavy use. But I only got 12 hrs with no use at all on stock gingerbread.

I do. But have been using it all along on other ROMs.

Exactly. The screen was off. I flashed rom, restarted, charged to full battery, slept, woke up, checked my phone and this is what i got. U can see display has consumed hardly any battery. (no wonder it was off all the time)

This is also a question? Why is that so high too?? Even if maps would not have consumed any battery, gingerbread alone would have emptied it in under 24 hrs with no use at all. (display off)

Root with CF-Root-XW_OXX_JV1-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1_NO-CWM and then original kernel.
Flashed from I9000XWJS8 with bootloader, re-partition and pit512.

I got a similar problem with Android OS eating all my battery.
It was only after I plugged my phone off and pressed the power button so that the display turns off. From that point on Android OS consumed battery.
Restarted, cleared dalvik cache, now no problems anymore.

Try to disable the Mobile backup and restore (setting - privacy - backup my data)

This might be the problem, I have seen that sometimes the system will not go to standby state although the displey is off and the reason was Latitude (this might also explain high usage by system and maps).
Too bad that Spare parts are not working on Gingerbread, there you could see what app is causing the system not to go to sleep.
So I think that some app is causing the system to be awake, and my gues is Latitude.

To be honest, since I don't use "maps" or "latitude", I only have Android OS eating up my battery. Bloody 75% in the span of 7 hours with a hint of WIFI and texting.
Going to try the "wipe Divik Cache" idea posted by h4m74o.

Just an update, I believe the dalvik cache idea is working. Screenshot shows my last hour of usage stabilizes instead of the decline I was experiencing. I will post back tomorrow for a reconfirmation.

I had the same problem with maps on CM7, never found out what caused it so i just uninstalled it

Battery is pretty good acutally, but i also have the strange Google Maps drainage (31% of consumption: 5.5hours stay awake and 50min CPU). I did just receive an update for Google Maps; Hopefully this fixed something, but that would be just luck .
But how do I wipe the Dalvik cache? And why would thit help?
Btw currently @27% and just under 40 hours. (1d15h)

I tried a few things.
1. Uninstalled the update to google maps.
2. FC google maps.
9% battery drain in over 11 hrs. i.e les than 1% per hour. But this is with no use at all.
The problem is, WHY is Maps still the major consumer of battery???
Can't I remove maps completely?

If you use modified kernel, try to flash JVK stock kernel, fully charge and see if any improvement. This gave back to me normal battery life.

Battery Drain - Again! events/0 and suspend !

I have on my Samsung Galaxy S2 as well as on my Samsung Galaxy Note a huge battery drain caused to 2 processes : "events/0" and "suspend".
I have already read a lot of threads concerning this problem, but without finding a solution.
I found out, that I only have this bug, when activating my Wifi connection (on both devices). I tried every wifi sleep policy, still getting same results.
So finally, my Android OS battery usage is more than 50%, even more than my display.
Does anyone know a solution for this problem, considering that now I'm sure that it's linked to the wifi activation on both phones. (I did a factory reset and there was no battery drain until I activated Wifi without having any other apps installed, besides of System Panel to monitor....)

If your phone is rooted you should 'freeze' or remove the apps "Wifi sharing manager" and "Wifi sharing" with Titanium Backup. Fixes your Wifi-problems.
It's a service that looks for other Samsung Wifi devices constantly when Wifi is turned on, thus draining the battery.

No, my Phone isn't rooted. I was not sure if I should or not, considering the warranty problems. Is there no other way?
A lot of other users don't have this problem, I don't get why I have it-.-

As far as I know, it doesn't really void your warranty as long as you do it the right way and unroot your phone before you send it back to Samsung (if problems occur).
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
As an alternative you can disable WiFi when you are not using it with apps like Green Power and Juice Defender (although I strongly advise Green Power for it's ease of use).

Thank you.. But there has to be another way to solve this problem, because people I know don't have this bug... without using any batterysaving software. :/

In the first week that I got the Note, the device is eating up about 10% of batter per hour even when idle. The way that I use this Android phone was no difference than other Android devices I have used. When checked the battery usage, I was stunt to find that the Android OS was using 90% of the battery. Funny is that the screen showed a usage of 20minutes, while the OS showed a usage of almost 3 hours.
Soon after, I decided to do a factory reset due to other reasons. Some how this problem went away and the usage is back to normal. I don't know what happened, but in my case, it solved the issue.
Also I don't use the Note as a phone, but rather as a mini-tablet when I am not at home. So I decided to put the device in Flight mode when it is not in use. In this mode, the device hardly uses any battery. For example when I went to sleep, the battery was at 79%. When I woke up 7 hours later, the battery still shows 79%.

How about you stop ASS-uming about devices that you don't own. The Galaxy Note is faster, smoother, lighter, and more portible than your Motorola tablet. The only tablet that can match or even outperform the Note is the Galaxy tab so have fun with your soon to be obsolete tablet.
OT: Your issue may be fixed with a factory reset.

Did you try the app "Green Power". It is pretty good and promising. It will turn off Wifi / 3g while it is not using, it save much power. The paid version just including the 'night' mode.

I'm suddenly facing this issue. Have had no problem with the battery so far. My battery went from 40% to 15% overnight with the screen off and wifi off. :s

Edit one more time: I found the battery draining really fast just now too: 15%-12% in about 20 minutes.
Clearing the RAM seems to have stopped that though.

I really do think it's the wi-fi sharing/manager processes. I've frozen mine to see if that makes any difference.

It's exactly the same for me, with the suspend and events/0 processes...

I solved my problem thanks to a tip on this forum. I just did a factory reset for my ohone, and then reflashed the firmware. Its working great now

I'd think it's pretty relevant to know what android/fw-version you're all using? I'm on Samsung's original 2.3.6 and have no issues...

No, its not. Coze I've upgraded to 2.3.6, and then downgraded to 2.3.5 again, and my problem was still there. Only a factory reset solved my problem.
By the way, u can notice something is wrong by the amount of heat generated while using the wifi, or by how slow pc usb charging could be. It even used to discharge when connected to pc!
The amount of heat was a very strong indication that there was something wrong.

Still battery drain
Hello all,
as of 26 march 2012, I still have something problematic on my samsung galaxy note. I flashed last Open German firmware (LC1) (from samfirmware). The phone is rooted, and as far as I noticed the "suspend" process is still draining the most battery compared with the display ratio. I tried to wipe everything, I downgraded back from LB1 to KKA with Odin, wiped, flashed LC1 and reinstalled onyl paid apps (i.e. not with no advertises). I turned off the Wifi but the susped is still there, eating 63% of resources.
There are not special kernel wakelocks... any ideas on how to go ahead?

I have a standard non rooted rom. I also faced sudden battery drain, but use the following solution -
Folders - keep to the application page not home screens
Backlight - off when inside, 50% if outside or on charge (auto drains faster)
Browser - use one of the low power saving mode
Screen background - live wallpaper eats battery. Use a dark based wallpaper , use much less power
With all the above battery is fine. GB 2.3.6.

I've had the exact same problem as the topic starter. Android system running over 90% in standby and suspend and events/0 running at 100%. I had this problem on stock XXLA6, on Darky V3.3 XXLA6 and Rocket V23 XXLC1 and after a number of full wipes.
My wifi wouldn't turn off in standby and setting different sleep policies didn't do a thing.
I removed the Samsung Sharing app, installed GreenPower and set it to turn off wifi and 3G/data as I don't need sync when it's in standby anyway.
All problems are gone now, after an hour in standby I still have 100% charge and after browsing for 5 minutes it lowered to 99%. Suspend and events/0 no longer run when the phone is in standby, wifi is turned off and Android System is at 4% now.

What is the name of the Samsung sharing app you deleted?

[Q] Incredibly annoying battery life on idle, AFTER rooting

I'll start off that I'm a novice android user, I got this phone a month ago and before that I was using a Nokia E63.
Anyway, so I rooted and all that junk, did a factory reset and all that junk, and now my battery is complete garbage on idle.
Before I rooted, when in idle for 8~ hours, the slope was very minimal and I lost about 1-5% battery life. Now, the battery is draining like crazy, to the point where I have to charge several times a day.
I know the problem isn't the fact that I rooted.. but what is!?!

The stock kernel is garbage is what it is , install Franco kernel and forget u ever had this issue , rooting your phone didn't cause battery drain like u said ..... Google services could be anything , check your maps app setting

The stock kernel is actually very improved to all other efforts and it sleeps likes baby. I'm willing to bet maps is the issue, but it isn't like the stock kernel sucks THAT much.

Ya no it dose , i coundnt get over 2 hours screen on time with my normal settings with stock ROM and kernel . screen 70% , GPS , data , Google now , sync all ON . changed to Franco kernel i get 4.4 hours screen on time now , no more heat throttle , no more heat , its smoother , faster just better , something to think about / try , u can always go back just as easy

at first I thought it was fixed; what I did was update Google Maps. After a few hours, the problem of "google services" came back...

Keep your phone connected to Wi-Fi while you're sleeping and it will drain much less (I've sometimes seen <5% over 8-10 hours). Keeping your phone on network will continue to "wake it" during the night.

Get GSAM Battery Monitor or BetterBatteryStats to get a better look at exactly what is draining your battery so quickly.

It has to be one of the Google apps running on the background. Like somebody mentioned, get better battery stats to see what's exactly draining your phone. Also, I've noticed that if I keep NFC enabled, some apps that utilize it, will kill my phone way faster. So check NFC maybe, try disabling it and see if it makes a difference.

I can only underline what ppl said in terms of franco kernel. Easy to patch and insane improvement. And it is for free unless you buy his app. I was laughing when I saw those pics with such a low battery life. I always get 6 hours screen on time.

WiFi..no way he gets that with data as this phone SUCKS on battery life with 3G/H.

Well before I rooted there was absolutely no problem with battery. I use a $15 tmobile plan with no data. I basically use my phone like a tablet. NFC and most other features are disabled.
I'll give that other kernel a shot once I figure our how to do all this...

I had the exact same issue, and there is a problem with the Nexus 4 in that some applications stop the phone deep sleeping, even though the same applications have no issues on other devices. This keep awake seems to happen lower down and isn't recorded in Android as the phone being awake. The same issue appears on Franco kernel (I've tested it) as well so that isn't a fix if this is the problem.

If anyone wants to test this with other kernels then:
Download CPU Spy. Reset CPU spy timers to zero, and first check the phone is deep sleeping by leaving for 30 minutes with screen off and USB cable unplugged and confirm Deep Sleep is around 90% or more. Now download Snowfall Live Wallpaper and set the wall paper as active, repeat the above, and see that Deep Sleep is never entered into. Use your favourite battery stats checker and you will find no indication of wake locks. Snowfall Live Wallpaper doesn't even have permission to keep a device awake.
Next set a different wall paper from the stock options (live or static) and repeat the test, note that Deep sleep is STILL not being entered even though the live wall paper is no longer in use. Now from the list of cached processes, remove the cached process for the Snowfall Live wall paper, repeat the test, and now the phone is entering Deep Sleep. So this particular wall paper has the power to stop the phone deep sleeping even when it is a cached (and so stopped) process. Another application that causes this bug is BeWeather & Widgets.
Even un-installing the problem application doesn't return the phone to be able to deep sleep, as the app is still a cached process. This can make it difficult to find the app causing a problem.
Testing these applications on a Nexus 7 and HTC One X causes no issues with the device deep sleeping, ergo, Nexus 4 bug. I'm sure there are other applications causing the same issue.

It is not garbage at all.
The op must have too many background apps running. Probably has nothing to do with the kernal or rooting..

I have wifi on almost all the time and I get a full day, 5 hours screen on time. I use franko kernel and aokp.
Google services must be something like lattitude reporting your location, or an app that polls data all the time. Even with
auto sync on, whatsapp syncing and wifi on all day I dont have google services anywhere in my battery list.
Of course, it is entirely possible it is something to do with google now, which I have turned off

My "multitask" button menu is always empty. I never keep anything voluntarily suspended in the memory (if that's what your talking about)

I originally hated Google Maps (before I rooted) because it used up about 1-5% of my battery with GPS and all other related settings disabled... no problems at all with battery back then. I basically did the same thing after I rooted, but then I started having the Google Services battery problem, where then I re-enabled most of the Google applications I disabled (maps, books, magazines, wallet) and updated them, hoping for Google Services to be satisfied, but nada.
Anyway, today was TERRIBLE. I need to keep WiFi on all the time otherwise Google Services eats my battery. But at the end of school today, I looked at my phone in horror to see that Google Maps took a huge chunk of my battery (and 3 hours earlier there was no trace of Google Maps in the battery status settings)
Battery life today : the bad stuff started happening once I left the mobile service area. Google Maps did not show up on battery settings before that time.
Keep AWAKE FOR AN HOUR???
still not sure what this is, 5% from this app basically translates to another 30-40 minutes of battery life

I just disabled the Google Location Services, I wonder if that would change anything... could it really be that simple? Unlikely.
As for applications, I don't have many... and I don't have a live wallpaper or anything. I keep my phone on the lowest brightness indoors and automatic outside. I try to save every bit of battery I can, and a useless wallpaper or running application doesn't help with that (I uninstalled a few apps like FB that kept on running in the background)

I wish I had 20 hours of battery life... My N4 is empty after 6 hours on CM10 with Francos kernel.

Android OS draining battery?

Well my nexus has been giving me 5 hours SOT for the longest time, but just randomly, it decided to start dying really fast. I checked battery stats, and sure enough, android OS is the killer here. I'm aware android OS drains are usually because of apps installed, but I haven't installed anything new or suspicious any time recently. I even did a full wipe and reinstalled the rom I'm running.

Anyone know how to troubleshoot which apps are killing my system? I'm running CM 4/22/13 and franco.kernel r127 if that makes any difference.

If your phone has been on standby for that long then obviously androidos will be up there since nothing else has been working your battery. Post the pics so I can clarify this.

Nah because when it happened (at least for me) the battery drain was sudden and drastic.
All day Screen was at the top, then all of the sudden in the evening Android OS went from 15% to 74% in about 15 minutes.

Pretty much my scenario

android os thing happened to me, i think for me it was because it was trying really hard to connect and stay connected to the bad wifi at my school, turned off wifi and the drain stopped. not sure about ur situation though

This might just help you out. It'll show you any partial and kernel wakelocks and which processes are causing it.
I had this problem a while ago, so I did a clean install of my rom and apps and the problem was gone. If you can pinpoint the app that's causing your phone to stay awake, you can avoid having to do what I did xD

Really weird... this has been happening to me too, but not as drastic as yours (still a good chunk)
I just reflashed my ROM just in case that was the problem.
Also when I used better battery stats to see what's going on, all it showed me was the power manager thingy. Which showed me nothing.

That's all it ever shows when it comes to Google services jacking up the phone. Kind of convenient for Google since we can't pin down/point blame for the issue

Turning off WiFi when idle at school seems to have helped. I did notice that when I got to my house it seems the battery drain is more normal. Maybe it really is because the WiFi is just slow.

did you ever solve this problem? or find out what caused it?

I had a similar issue. My phone would not deep sleep. Yet things would work fine when I wasn't on WiFi. A reboot of my WiFi router fixed it.

first go to Settings -> Developer Options -> Apps Tab -> checked Don't keep activities
set brightness to auto
then go to location services -> off access my location
then go to wifi -> advanced Wi-Fi -> keep wi-fi on during sleep -> change to Never
now go to application manager -> Running Tab -> Force stop some apps with extra ram usage like settings
my phone just uses 5% battery in 13hr sleep mode ; ENJOY!

I think if you only do this you will solve the problem.
At least for me my only problem with "Android OS" is when sleeping my phone and having "keep wi-fi on during sleep -> Always".
I have franco kernel and cannot check the kernel wakelocks but I test some days with CM kernel and didn't see any kernel wakelock that consumes too much battery... but maybe some of you have this problem: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1039838404

I mean, when I installed CM months ago I select "keep wi-fi on during sleep -> Always" because I thought that if I don't do this I will not receive any notification. The fact is that when putting "Never" Android OS was CPU active mostly the 80-90% of time my phone was sleeping and Wifi ON and now with "Always" (or when plugged) has CPU active like 20-30%... AND I receive notifications also.
Probably when downloading a large data If I put my phone to sleep It will stop download, I didn't try.
One thing I don't understand is that when sleeping it doesn't use mobile data (as it says "Increases data usage"), even I have data and wifi on.
So, if I get notifications in both options ("Never" and "Always") and I get less battery drain with "Never" I prefer "Never".

You say you receive notifications even with the "never" option, but are you sure its not using your cellular data connection instead?

There is a bug in google backup service, google backup service acquires wfii connectivity lock and does not release it for hours which prevents device entering deep sleep and as a result drains battery. Fortunately you can disable backup in Settings->Accounts->Backup and Reset-> uncheck 'Backup my data'. This should resolve the issue ... after a full recharge monitor your battery stats - Android OS should NOT be on the top.

Sorry disabling backup didn't help - encountered the same problem. There is indeed a bug that some OS module that holds a wlan lock but it's not a backup service. I suspect that full charge triggers this flow. Device restart will temporarily fix the issue. I'll post if i will find the causer, sorry for mislead.

Overnight battery drain

I have a problem that I noticed some people are experiencing. Overnight idle the phone drains like 25% with wifi off and on battery saver. Is there a known cause for this? My Honor 8 is brand new. Help!

After I wake up it's normal again (I turn WiFi on and use phone normally) -
I will try and leave WiFi on during the night today to see if it makes any difference.

Fyi, since I woke up and turned wifi on, the battery has only went down by 1%! Something is not right. How can it drain so much without using it and almost none when I actually use it.

Which hardware and firmware version are you using?
Do you have cellular data connected when WiFi is off?

Hi. I'm using FRD-L09 and EMUI 5, build FRD-L09C432B381.
No wifi, no mobile data turned on. All apps closed.
Yesterday I left it at ultra power save when it was at 12%, after I woke up (around 6 hours). it was off. Don't think that's normal either.

Sometimes I have the same problem. Overnight phone drops 25% of the battery.
What I found useful is to turn off Wifi+, Link+ and in GPS location (3 dots -> Search settings -> turn off Searching for Wifi and Bluetooth). In fact that will stops searching for Wifi, while Wifi is toogled off.
It might help you, I think this is Android 7 issue, since most people complains about heavy battery drain when not using the phone. Noone complained when using Android 6.

This isn't normal, but at the same time it is... I don't think any one person has figured out the real reason why, but many of us have had similar battery drain for seemingly no reason. I simply backed up my data and factory reset the phone and haven't had an issue since. Others haven't been so lucky.
Can you take a screen shot of your battery graph so we can see if your system is awake during the drain?

I have update B381 and u have this problem with battery drain for my is very bad battery life update B360 was good for battery life.

I found the high Idle battery usage some what related to the phone keep search for upgrade and the process "android OS" was consuming around 50% all the time.
After set these two setting, it fixed the battery drain and "android OS" only use around 20%. Now it remains 100% battery for 10 hours standby.
1) Setting->System update ->(three dots)->Update Settings->Wifi auto download (Disable)
2) Setting->Battery->(Setting icon on top right)->keep wifi on when sleeping->Never

I did as everyone suggested and turned off auto WiFi and bluetooth search and auto WiFi download of the system updates. If I turn off keep WiFi on during sleep, I don't get any notifications from messaging apps, so I won't do that. I've also only left Messenger, Viber and Whatsapp in the whitelist of programs that will be closed when screen is locked.
Here is the most recent screenshot of the battery usage.

Try factory reset and wipe cache. Screenshot tells us that your phone is awake when you are not using it.

Okay, I'll try later tonight and reply tomorrow if anything's changed.

Just use the backup tool that was loaded on the phone. It works nearly perfectly to backup all your texts, call log, apps, settings, etc.

Looks like it tried to sleep when you went to bed last night, but something woke it up early in the morning and it never went back to sleep. Find out what that was and you may solve your problem.

If you have data, you still get notifications.

As a test, I created a Magisk module that freezes all of Huawei's system power management apps and superfluous services. I just loaded it today, so it'll be a few days before I can provide feedback on if it improves battery life.

I backed it all up and am wiping it tonight but I was thinking. Perhaps it's not a good idea to restore the data yet? Maybe I should try a night with stock settings/apps to see if that makes a difference, then restore all and see if there's any difference.

Honestly, I wouldn't expect that experiment to provide you with any useful info. You will naturally see more battery drain once you have your apps and services running because more will be happening in the background. Reinstall everything and use your device normally to get the most accurate comparison to your previous battery life.

Factory reset I know how to do, but how to give the wipe cache?

IIRC, the cache should be wiped automatically when you Factory Reset.

I like to do it manually. Turn off the phone. Hold Vol + and power button.

I wonder how the battery drain overnight will be with the new custom Roms which are out.
