Hi. I want to share my experience with a couple of ROMS. Maybe people new to ROMS or to the S6 would like to know.
Before my S6 I used iPhones for years (ever since the 3GS). I always jailbroke my phones and customized iOS as much as possible. For that reason I immediately rooted my phone and looked in to any improvements I could make.
Just so you know: Rooting usually trips Knox and yes you probably lose your guarantee. That's a whole other subject.
The S6 is a fantastic phone, no matter what everyone says about battery life, etc. It's still freaking great and much better than an iPhone 6.
1. My second favourite (but many people's favourite and #1 choice as ROM for the S6): XtreStoLite Deo-Mod Edition
If you want to immediately improve your S6 I suggest you install the XtreStoLite Deo-Mod Edition. It's a super lightweight version of the original Touch Wiz rom. It's got all of the Samsung bloatware removed. It's extremely fast, animation speeds are adjusted, and it makes it a 100% better experience than the original Touch Wiz that comes with the phone.
It comes with a companion zip file called the Aroma Package. It's like a second installation which includes tons of optional apps and customizations you can add to your phone. It's developed by @edgarf28. Go download it, and give him THANKS.
2. My favourite ROM (and also for many others): back-to-n0t3; Bring the larger fun to the flagship
The absolute best ROM for me is the back-to-n0t3; Bring the larger fun to the flagship. It's the Galaxy Note 5 firmware ported over to the S6. Since the Note 5 and the S6 are basically the same phone, the developer @arter97 noticed that in the Note 5 many finishing touches, memory management and performance was handled better than in the S6, so he ported the ROM.
I'll just say that after using this ROM my S6 has been on another level. It works great, it gives me 3 hours of SOT (and many people report even 5 hours). I use my phone non-stop: Facebook, Twitter, Email, etc. I give myself no restrictions.
Animation speeds are great, RAM never reaches max usage, and the higher DPI resolution is also something I love.
I also now have some of the features of the Note 5 in my S6: I can stream videos directly to Youtube, can use the "one handed" settings, etc.
So download it and thank the developer.
Both these ROMS will make you a happier S6 user.
Great explanation.
Fingerprint reader Funtionality
@gaston_garcia Does Fingerprint reader work in any of the roms you mentioned?
Does your private mode works properly on back to n0t3?
Fingerprint works in both Roms

when is the coming cm 12 or miuı roms for galaxy s6?
sorry for bad grammar
What Samsung features are missing when you install CyanogenMod ROM? I noticed that all of the cool, stock lockscreen effects are missing. But what about things like:
Super fast boot time
multi-window
S Beam
Screen Mirroring
Floating Messages
S Pen
Etc
I tried CM only for couple of hours (that was quite honestly enough for me), and S Pen features were obviously missing, same for Multi Window, and most importantly for me the display profiles weren't there, I mean the ones you find under Settings- Display, Cinema is the one I use, and I won't use anything else, and CM doesn't have anything like that, they have some colour temperature altering option however, but quite honestly that was nowhere near same as Samsung's preset calibration. Another thing is, the camera photo quality won't be like stock TouchWiz camera, and then there is the call quality!
It was way too many things to compromise for me, for little speed bump.
Was in CM till the Lollipop came and yes I don't use much TW features even though I am in TW now.
but after Lollipop, TW is better in performance and battery (without Greenify or Xposed), I've freezed a few apps though..
Im using Lean Kernel and TW base gives better battery anyday!

Thanks, I think I'll stick with TouchWiz then!
Right but it's more to personal preference. Most importantly I hate the interface. TW is much better looking for me. I can live with some lags.
CM, overall it's fast but it has some lags when opening a dialer or so. And the battery life is terrible. No matter which rom i've tried on my note 1 & 3 nothing is better than TW.
If i want a stock android i will get a nexus.

Lol
For me TW is the ugliest.
Never used gimmicks so for me there is no point in TW. Haven't touched stylus in a year, I don't multi task. And there are apps that work even better than Samsung spen apps other than snote, but Microsoft note is great.
Can't compare nexus phones to others as their design and hardware isn't best compared to Sony and htc, and some Samsung phones. I like Samsungs hardware but I have cm on all my devices. I like smoothness of CM if you can sett it up the way you want. Never ever lags here.
For me SoT is up to 8 hours and I'm happy as I have no problem charging phone wherever am I.
If CM was so bad it wouldn't be so popular and used by millions.
And those that buy a Samsung device just like others buy an apple, there is no way they can accept anything else.
Those willing to try new things can try themselves and see if it is working for them or not. Everything else is bull****, as I have listened to those before and this way missed my dream OS till I tried different ones and finally found what I was looking for.
TW is best for those that can't live without it. TW is the worst for those that don't like it.
CM is best for those that like it. CM is worst for those that see no point in it.

I agree totally. Before tw lollipop, I couldn't stand tw. Now it feels just as fast as some cm roms, save for a few lightning fast ROMs like slim and validus and minimal.
I do enjoy cm/slim a lot because of all the well designed themes and built in mods/cherry picks.
On tw you need to use xposed, or an app, to achieve different tweaks. But if you cook up a ROM with those features, you're all set. Cough cough aryamod layers, mods, cough cough
I do need more battery life, so sadly I can only use tw for the time being.
But I can find touch wiz app alternatives that suffice when on cm. Although camera quality isn't as good.
I guess I'm a perfect candidate for multi boot...
Tw average sot for my usage: 6 to 7hr
Cm average sot for my usage: 4 to 5hr

Hey everyone. After noticing that Moto X Style (Pure) is getting a lot of new ROM's of different base I am starting to be curious .
What is the best advantages and disadvantages of all bases: stock, CyanogenMod, AOSP, AOKP?
I will try to flash some of them, but right now I don't have time to experiment, so I created thread for this question.
Earlier I was Samsung Galaxy S3 proud owner, but after experience with TouchLAG, ou sorry, TouchWiz, I tried a lot of bases, but the main disadvantage of all but stock ROM's was that all "drivers" for my device was gone! - camera quality and speed, audio loudness and quality, screen colours, battery life, and other features was gone. Also battery life on outher ROM's is not so good, and a lot of bluetooth wakelocks was coming to. The main advantage of custom ROM's was speed and ability to modify everything!
So now, I am looking for answer, what will I loose after installing custom ROM to my device.
1) I suppose that Moto features like moto display and all gesture controls will be gone? But is it possible to add ambient display to work with IR sensors of Moto?
2) After my Galaxy S3 experience, I am curious will I loose my camera quality, audio, and other? Will it loose some of its juice?
I am TruPureXMM and Frakenclark user with Xposed (GravityBox) and other stuff, so basically I have all functions that I want, but, maybe with custom ROMS its possible to gain some battery life and some perfomance.
Feel free to write comments, I want to know what is your experience with custom ROM's, what did you like, what not!
I need your best advise and/or suggestions. I've been a fan of custom ROMs and switching from Touchwiz Nougat (e.g. Nemesis Reborn) to Lineage OS to stock G900F firmware seems to be what I always do (am I the only one who does this?). I am undecided as to which software should I use as my daily driver. These ROMs are great and have their own pros and cons, but I've been annoyed of the fact that I keep switching ROMs which is somehow a waste of time and could even mess up my device in the future.
Touchwiz: The ultimate deciding factor for me is the stock S5 camera app. If you can find similar camera app on the Google Play Store that gives almost the same results let me know.

Footej Camera has a great user interface but the quality of the photo it produces is not that good; noise, grain, blur -- those stuff. Also, it has no real FAST auto-focus. Essentialy, it just focuses continuously, but it does not really detect objects whether they are near or far. If it ever focuses into something, it's not that accurate, it's blurred.
The stock S5 camera app is not perfect, it does not have manual settings, but among all the camera apps for the S5, it is the best. That's why I'm sticking with a Touchwiz-based ROM.

Exactly! ???
Touchwiz. Working smooth
I personally use an AOSP ROM (RR 5.8.2) for my Galaxy S5 (klte). I don't use the camera too often. Plus, the camera quality isn't as bad compared to stock ROM. As for gaming, I don't play games anymore on my phone since the top grossing Android games would force you to spend money to progress (usually) which isn't good. I just want my phone to look like how I want and experience smooth Android experience. But your mileage may vary.
Lineage Based:
-Better performance
-Touchwiz lacks the customization options I want
-Touchwiz feels bloated to me even with the debloated Note 7 or A7 firmware
-Latest version of Android
-The features in Touchwiz aren't very practical (I set up the edge panels and then proceeded to never use them, AOD drains the battery)
-Can have better battery life depending on which ROM / Kernel are used
-I have been happy with the quality from Open Camera
-The Lineage stock apps (other than file manager) are awesome

Thanks bro. I've decided to use lineage because of the same reasons.
Open camera has the same functions as stock sansung camera?
Blur background, etc ?
What customization are you using in lineage?
What kernel is good ? I have on stock lineage

No camera has the same features as stock Samsung camera.
Open Camera is the only 1 I have found that (IMO) takes similar quality photos and has good hdr plus many manual settings. It is also very stable.
I have been trying many different kernels lately:
Smartpack lite - was not happy with the battery life even though it is supposed to be a battery oriented kernel
Boeffla venom - have been using yankactive governor for a day and preliminary results are very good. Will be trying impulse and ondemandplus also.

You guys wrote about Touchwiz Nougat but there is no 7.0 Nougat ROM Touchwiz based for G900F. Why?

fv camera its amazing with almost total control manual mode inluded
TouchWiz is one of the most modified and conceivably heavy Stock Roms of native android between companies, but its interface is very flashy and intuitive, and the system is very sophisticated, giving an impression of exclusivity.
On the other hand, Lineage OS gets closer to pure Android, has a simpler, lightweight and stable interface, greater compatibility with third-party apps and greater flexibility to system modifications.
Note: Samsung's "Camera" app for example is much higher compared to the same "Camera" app available in Lineage OS, after all, the original app was designed for the original rom itself. If you decide to install Lineage OS, you can choose to use the "Cameringo" app available in the "Play Store", it's the best non-native camera app I know, but it's paid.
Recommendation: Keep using the latest official Stock Rom version available for your device. Only install Custom Roms (like Lineage OS) from android versions that are not officially available for your device model.
Hi,
My father is using my old S5 (KLTE) for about 2 years now. He's recently complaining about the performance (response and battery) of the phone. So I was in search for a price/performance phone to replace his S5.
But then I decided that in the old days, I was able to have better performance from my old Android phones by just changing the rom. (to a lite and recent version) together with a factory reset, I believe he will have better performance for at least a few more months while I find a better phone for him
So, I'd like to get your suggestions on a performance rom.
Preferably, I'd go with a touchwiz based rom because I don't want to change his familiarity of the interface. But I know that it (touchwiz) would mean loss of performance.
he's used to use video talk over the GSM so I believe this is only available in touchwiz , right ?
On the other hand, a lite rom with possibly Nougat (7.1.x) would be a good upgrade.
I can't select at the moment which path to go.
Can you recommend me best roms for each path ? (Touchwiz and Non-Touchwiz)
Thanks.
Currently I'm with the stock Marshmallow ROM from Samsung and it's pretty fast. You can check my signature for all the info about it. But I'll soon change to MagMa ROM VX3 (when it gets released) which is a port from the S8/Note 8. While still on Android 6.0.1 it has all the features and is lighter I think. Try out a few ROMs and see which one's the best. It all depends on apps installed, kernel used, disabled stuff, etc. In my opinion better to stay on TouchWiz since he's familiar with it. Plus non-touchwiz ROMs tend to have bugs.
I would like to know also if there is any custom rom than has better performance than the last stock one and has no bugs. I'm afraid that custom roms could have neither and add some extra features that won't compensate.
About the battery you can simply buy another one. That was the last Galaxy S to have a removable one and that is the main reason why I have not upgraded it. But I have the feeling the phone has become slower, even I have reset it.
Try these ROM. It is a TouchWiz Rom so I think your dad would like it. It is fast in terms of performance and battery life is okay. Works best with boeffla. Heres the link:

But in what way is this better that the last stock one? And it has any disadvantage? (battery life, bugs etc that are usual in custom roms)
For me the bigger problem of the phone are not the features, that come mostly from the apps and they are the same. It is the performance as it always have a delay before starting any app that is not present in newer devices.
Even cheap devices as the Moto 5 has better performance, but the camera and the display is worse as the Galaxy S5 was a high end device making the upgrade a mix bag. Unless I go to more expensive devices. But the ideal would be a rom that optimize more the speed.

So far so good. No problems or bugs at all. The performance of the Rom is absolutely amazing when it comes to games or whatever you are doing. I even got a 64000 score in Antutu Benchmark without overclocking. I think it is the most stablest Rom that I had to my galaxy s5.
My recomendation if you want fast its the Ressurection Remix 5.8.5...
Its the fastest rom I've tried no doubt

But is buggy in any way? And what is the link for the rom? I have done a search and appears lots of different versions.
My s5 has the tendency to stall at the start of google maps and is rather slow with google assistant. Eventually I will buy one new but I would prefer a s9 (that is quite near) or s10
