My phone (Galaxy s5 SM-G900F) keeps crashing for no good reason even when it is idle,
These are the things I tried,
New firmware flash
Went back to factory settings in the phone
Same version
Model number
SM-G900F
Android6.0.1
BaseBand version
G900FXXS1CQAV
Build number
MMB29M.G900FXXS1CQD1
Could this be a hardware problem or software and how do I to fix it.
Thanks In advance.

This is definitely too less info to assess what might be a culprit for your problems.
First of all you should get a proper log and analyze it yourself or (if you are not able) ask other experienced xda members or devs to do it for you.
At this link you can find some useful info how on that
One of the worst cases might be for instance corrupted internal memory but guessing is not a good way for reliable answer.
Try a new battery

I use to have that exact problem. It seems to be a problem with Samsungs Marshmallow roms. The only permanent fix is to either downgrade back to lollipop or root and upgrade to a custom nougat rom. In the later case i would use LineageOS or CrDroid android.

I only use custom nougat ROM's and have had no issues. (Maybe the occasional reboot on a panic)
I use a AICP 12.1 build by optx which is very reliable, smooth and consistent.
If you want the link to try it, let me know.
If you do try AICP, try formatting /data and ART/Dalvik cache as F2FS via TWRP. (MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE!!!)
At your own risk of course

Hi,
I own a GS4 - i9505G - with google ROM edition v 4.3.
yesterday I tried to upgrade the ROM to 4.42 (Google ROM clean version without any tweaks, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341026).
After the upgrade, the UI & ROM seem to work fine but I have no carrier signal.
When I perform the mobile networks operators' search I can see all networks and by clicking "Choose automatically" I managed to renew the signal. However, after a very short while the signal is lost again (manual joining to the network does not work at all).
I searched and found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
and this lead me to use ODIN and flash the modem (twice, as recomended).
I used the modem file exactly for my phone base version which is: XXUBMH1.
However, even after flashing twice - still no signal....
Since I had Nandroid backup (always VERY highly recommended) I returned to the original 4.3 ROM version and then everything worked fine.
I also made another try to identify the issue and installed the 4.42 Google ROM edition which is not the Google clean original version and performed a factory wipe and cleaning everything
(this time the ROM I used was downloaded from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353).
However, same story and no signal....
I would very much appreciate any idea how to solve this issue.
By the way - from December I began to receive a notification on the device that an upgrade ROM was downloaded requesting me to click to install. However, when I tried to operate it the process always failed in the first steps (don't remember the error code). If anyone can direct me where to delete the file that was downloaded - it will also be very helpful due to the low free memory on the device.
Thanks in advance for all the help!
I now that for some roms you need to use TWRP recovery, or you will get "no signal".
Try flashing the rom with TWRP recovery and see if that solves your problems.
thanks but no cure yet

Thanks for the advice!
However, it seems that the cure is elsewhere. I had the PhilZ 6, and now converted to TWRP, but issue stays the same.
It appears that the signal is not totally lost, but the network connection can only be maintained for a short while, and only after a reset and when choosing automatic network registration. Soon after the signal disappears.
All other wireless aspects (WIFI, BT) seem to be working fine like before.
I am still breaking my teeth for a solution here...
Thanks.
Why are you installing a rom for the i9505 on a i9505G?
That would probably explain your issues.
You say that your phone is I9505G, but both of those roms are for I9505. Don't ever do such thing. You're lucky you didn't brick your phone. Check your IMEI
thanks for the note

Indeed I didn't notice the difference and thank you for this very important note.
I would like to elaborate - my phone was bought as a standard i9505, but I installed a clean Google Edition ROM on it and then checked under "Settings"/"About phone" menu to see the Model number "GT-I9505G".
I am now not so sure that this is the true model of I9505G, even though this is the information shown on the phone. If the model relates only to original Google Rom Edition phones then I am wrong and probably confused you.
My IMEI is: 3576********. Can you help me with the true definition and the files that I need to install?

First of all know this: You should never reveal your IMEI, it's not safe. Edit your post and hide your Imei number.
Now check again if the Imei that you see inside settings> is the same as the one from the back of the phone, under the battery. If its the same then you are fine. As for the device model, you can also find the model under the battery, and if it says that it's a i9505G than that should clear all the confusion.
My advice would be go back to stock official using ODIN. Grab the latest firmware from sammobile. It's always the safest thing to do, and it should handle all the mess
its a I9505

Many thanks for your message - even though I feel stupid both for not thinking to check "under the hood" and also for publishing the IMEI (now fixed).
It appears that my phone model is I9505. This validates my initial question, how to update the Google Edition ROM (clean version) from 4.3 to 4.42, but avoid the loss of network signal... I will try to take it to a local store and solve my unknown issues with the upgrade by paying a few bucks.
Many thanks anyway!

My last guess is that you are using an incorrect modem. Are you still on the old bootloader?
If you are already on the new bootloader, just flash the latest modem available. If it is correct that you have XXUBMH1, then you are using a modem that is to old for 4.4.2.
this is very true

I think that this is the correct problem identification and that my modem file is not updated for 4.42.
I tried to flash the updated modem file for XXUBMH1 version (in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025), but this did not solve the problem (even after flashing it twice).
Could I flash a different modem file than the one set for the phone base version which I have (or do I risk bricking my device)? and does the base version change after installing the new ROM (I forgot to check this after the new ROM was installed)? If yes then I will re-install it and flash the new modem file which should solve the problem.
Thanks for helping out.
Which modem did you flash? And are you on the old or new bootloader?
So I'm playing around with my straight talk s5 model # SM-S902 and running android version 4.4.2. We all know that straight talk does not issue the updates for phones (obvioisly) so what I really want is a stock rom and stock os on this phone that is up to date and current. My phone IS rooted and I know that this phone is a KLTE model but I'm u sure how to get the most recent android version as updates for this phone I also know that other versions phone roms work for this phone how ever I'm not sure exactly what other model number phones I can flash this one with. Any guidance or help would be greatly appreciated
Your phone is a kltevzw. G900v roms work. There is no stock mm you can use. Yet.

So is there any way for example to put android 6.p marshmallow on this with a G900v dump or update?
I found this just no idea if it's compatible with my phone or how to go about installing it if it is
http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/galaxy-s5-update/
You can install resurrection remix, aicp, cyanogenmod13 or mokee (all for kltevzw). But your firmware and modem will stay the same.

This is another thing I'm not so sure I understand, I see a lot of talk about a "modem" I know what a traditional for example dial up or cable modem is but I'm not sure if it's the same concept in the phone world or not.
First of all hello to everyone!
I have quite weird problem:
I have my phone rooted and customized since day one - Installed KitKat, tried some launchers, unlocked UPSM and so on.
It ran flawlessly for nearly 4 years.
Recently, for no particular reason I decided to wipe&refresh it and maybe install some totally custom ROM.
NOW: I can install ROMS like Lineage 14.1, 15.1 or Resurrection Remix 6.0 and they run fine except (yes, You probably guessed it) they mess up baseband and IMEI.
I can still revert to original 4.4.2 stock ROM and both baseband and IMEI work fine so i'm not in any "brick panic"
The point is I still want to move to some custom ROM but can't sort out baseband-modem and IMEI problem.
I tried to flash several different modems to no avail - sometimes (totally randomly) IMEI showed up on first boot after flashing but was gone after reboot.
- On my current 4.4.2 stock, IMEI shows up correctly NO MATTER which modem version I flash (is it weird or normal or what?)
- none of modem versions work on Lineage OS nor RR
- SIM card works flawlessly on all other devices and on my current 4.4.2 ROM so it's not damaged.
Is it matter of proper custom ROM+MODEM combination or something else?
Can anyone help to sort it out?
What more information do You need?
Thanks in advance!
Flash the latest lollipop stock firmware to update your bootloader.
Yeah, meanwhile I did flash lollipop an hour ago and it works fine with IMEI and all.
Latest version I could find for my phone was Lollipop 5.0
How can I tell if bootloader is updated?
Can I Flash sole bootloader independently via Odin?

Yes you can. Go to this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/bootloader-baseband-bl-cp-samsung-t3582504
Thank You all for help and pointing to right direction!
Taking care of proper bootloader version was the key step that sorted things out.
Now I'm enjoying superlite bloatware free 8.1 oreo with LineageOS 15.1 on great 4 yrs old device.
And it works super smooth. Way better then original 4.4.2.
Now I'm being tempted to push the limits and try 9.0 Pie with LOS 16...
Whenever flashing a stock ROM with Odin, the stock ROM includes a bootloader and modem file.
Hi everyone,
just a long-time forum-lurker in the dark here, now I'm here asking for help to restore my galaxy s4.
Here's the story:
gt-i9505 no brand, italian official firmware 4.4.4 (kitkat), never updated, only used towelroot to gain rood adn unistall couple of unused apps.
everything worked fine
Then i decided to upgrade to lollipop.
downloaded last samsung lollipop rom for my phone from sammobile, made a full backup via TWRP Recovery, and installed lollipop via Odin.
Then the nightmare begun :
1st problem, no modem, no connection, only wifi, i restored EFS, still not working, reinstalled modem via odin and then i got my imei and connection again.
2) think i've tried to change the rom to a custom downloaded here (i don't even remember the name), then i tried couple other roms.
this as far as i remember
Now the phone has a samsung original lollipop rom, wifi won't turn on, data not working, knox status is obviously altered (so i cannot restore it via kies or whatever the software name is now) BUT It overheats a lot after few minutes and i'm forced to shut it off to not damage it.
I'd like to restore it to a full working condition, i think i've messed up with bootloaders, modems and roms from different android versions.
can anyone help ?

Hey, @dokrobei
Take a look on my Guide.
You need the guide clean install from the scratch. Please read it carefully till the end. There avaible links with all necessary stuff like modem/bootloaders/stock rom-firmware/recommend customs roms etc.
Hi @Retrial, thanks for the answer..
I've managed to reinstall stock KitKat 4.4.2 and working modem drivers, following another tutorial here. Now Wi-Fi, 3g and bt works fine, BUT the phone overheats a lot. It's not a battery problem and sure it's software related 'cause it wasn't like this before my stupid first attempt to upgrade to lollipop.
I've searched the forum for the overtheating near the flash zone problem, some say that is a microsd problem (wich I removed), some other that's a battery problem (wich is not in my case).
Do you think I should start from scratch again following your guide? IHow do I know wich modem / bootloader is right for my phone? I think the problem is there, maybe wrong modem version..

First of all there is no need to still be on KitKat...a lot of apps don't support Kitkat nowdays...and is outdated.
I will recommend first to proper upgrade to Lollipop stock and then use some of the latest android Pie Custom JDC Roms by following my complete guide. As I said above there is a full guide with links and very well explained steps. The latest Firmware for our S4 i9505 is QK1 - No matter which country you will choose, and it's recommened to have the latest. Just read it carefully till the end and check the asterisks.
The overheating it may be no compatible Modem/Bootloader since you messed up with Lollipop. To check what Modem and Bootloder you can simply install "Device HW Info" or "Phone Info" app and check.
Let me know how it goes, and if you have any question or problem feel free to ask. Good Luck :fingers-crossed:

After every flash the device become hot. Let the rom settle for a while.
If you have PK2 Firmware then you need PK2 Modem and Bootloader. So no, don't try other modem/bootloader.

I flashed it last night and checked if it was working this morning. I'm sure the high temps are not related to the usage or to the battery. It become hot eachtime i turn on wifi. Havent tried with data but I think it will be the same thing.
Please any help would be appreciated! So I'm having some touch screen calibration issues after root and flashing TWRP + LineageOS. I search the forums and find that it can be fixed by dialling *#2663# and updating the firmware, but for whatever reason it doesn't work for my device. I tried other codes and find that none of them work at all on this device?? Do the codes normally stop working after root and will I need to flash back to stock firmware to get them back? The Phone Info App didn't work either. The SPen still works so at least the phone isn't totally unusable but it's still very irritating that nothing seems to fix this. Thanks in advance!
EDIT - I ended up fixing this by flashing stock Samsung firmware (marshmallow 6.0.1) via Odin. The code worked perfectly and I was able flash LineageOS again and it all works fine now! It was a little annoying to basically have to start all over but at least it's all good now lol. Cheers.

I don't know know for sure, but I couldn't easily find any. I leave the firmware alone unless it gets corrupted. In over 12 years that's never happened.
The big thing with Samsung's is never upgrade or update a OS that's fast, stable and fulfilling its mission. Upgrades/updates can and do break things...
