Straight Talk S5 question - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm playing around with my straight talk s5 model # SM-S902 and running android version 4.4.2. We all know that straight talk does not issue the updates for phones (obvioisly) so what I really want is a stock rom and stock os on this phone that is up to date and current. My phone IS rooted and I know that this phone is a KLTE model but I'm u sure how to get the most recent android version as updates for this phone I also know that other versions phone roms work for this phone how ever I'm not sure exactly what other model number phones I can flash this one with. Any guidance or help would be greatly appreciated

Your phone is a kltevzw. G900v roms work. There is no stock mm you can use. Yet.

So is there any way for example to put android 6.p marshmallow on this with a G900v dump or update?
I found this just no idea if it's compatible with my phone or how to go about installing it if it is
http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/galaxy-s5-update/

You can install resurrection remix, aicp, cyanogenmod13 or mokee (all for kltevzw). But your firmware and modem will stay the same.

This is another thing I'm not so sure I understand, I see a lot of talk about a "modem" I know what a traditional for example dial up or cable modem is but I'm not sure if it's the same concept in the phone world or not.

[Q] Canadian SGH-i337m - Confused about which modem I need...

Hello,
I was wondering if I had the latest + most recommended radio/modem installed to my device; and also, where I could "tune in" to keep an eye on newer and better releases.
I noticed a few threads about radios and modems, and none of them even mention this MK6 modem... Also, they all seem to be ATT specific.
Anways, I am currently using "Baseband Version: I337MVLUEMK6"; should I look into changing?
Thanks!
You are running 4.3 with that modem. I think you can unlock your phone using the dial pad with that version. If you upgrade to a newer version then it is fairly locked down for tinkering and Knox enabled. If it works for you keep it. So unlock your phone 1st if need be.
You are about 3 releases behind

Youre obviously pretty new to this. Basically MK6 is just a rom firmare update from the one before it. Every time samsung releases an update like 4.4.3 it changes that number letter thing. So if you pick any rom on the forum and you notice a fewdsyd later yhat person has updated the rom from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 that number will change. Anyways its not too important. I suggest Goldfinger in the android development (regular development not original). Its a good one to start off with. Make sure during install to chose the correct phone. For example im canadian so I pick l337m otherwise it wont work right. Make sure if you chose a different rom than one designed for l337m that you download and flash a l337m kernal after youve installed and booted up the rom. I mean install and let the new rom boot to the setup screen. Then reboot into twrp and flash the l337m kernel of your choice. If you read through the goldfinger posters thread theres a kernel tool link. Its cool because it has all the kernels in one file. Just make sure u download the l337m version of the kernel tool. I hope that helps....also some roms wont connect your data and youll have to set up your apn yourself. I find sometimes I have to set up my rogers apn manually. Amyways now im probably confusing you lol. The unified section has roms that work on all phones or you can download roms like goldfinger that let you choose the phone youre using. Ok so to answer uour question the modem type just refers to the firmware the rom is built on. Haha

Actually, I'm already unlocked + rooted... And running GoldenEye 41 VJUGNH2 @ Android 4.4.2
In fact, I was getting all kinds of data drops and other basic function fails until i switched from AMG1 (I THINK!) to MK6 via Odin desktop.
At this time, everything is working fine... I just wanted to make sure it was running optimally. And apparently it's not, if I'm using a 4.3 radio/modem with a 4.4.x rom...
And also, when installing a new ROM, I've only ever noticed changes in kernel, build number, android version, and ROM version; never Baseband version.
I guess I'll double check the ROM threads, maybe I just missed a part about them being bundled with new Basebands...
Thanks folks!
/update
I flashed NC1, seemed to be the latest one... Everything OK for now.

[Q] S5 Bought In China Help...

Hello
So firstly look at the image i attached....
Now i want to know if it is possible to root this phone and install CM12 or another custom rom or even an official lollipop rom that i will receive updates on ?
Thanks in advance
It looks to me like you have a Verizon S5, although the model number states otherwise and the DONGCHAO.617 build number seems custom. You do have a Verizon S5 though, so you can root on NCG, which you are running, through towelroot. However, ROMs like CM12 can't be installed without an unlocked bootloader, which is impossible currently on the VZ S5. You can get a Lollipop ROM with root by following these instructions.

What you're currently running is not official. The build number isn't official, anyway, so it won't get the lollipop update. The firmware that I'm telling you about can be updated, but I'm not 100% sure about the ROM.
Ok Thank you I will give it a try either today or tomorrow cheers for the info

Sm-s902l upgrade modem and bootloader to mm?

I know it can be done. My phone is an sm-s902l, a klte variant. It is specifically a klte VZW. G900v ROMs usually work, but in this instance,(modem/bootloader), they don't. At least not on my phone. Odin fails every time. Flash fire fails. Nu TWRP doesn't offer any help. Is anybody have any idea how to do this?
The only firmware available from sammobile is 4.4.2
Help!
I'm going to keep bumping this thread in hopes that someone will see it and help me out. WHY CANT I GET G900V FIRMWARE ON MY PHONE??
Does anyone know why he 900v firmware will not flash on to my SM - s902l?

Huh... so if I have a question I'm annoying people. Youre a piece of work, bigmouth. I don't think I made a bad choice at all. And I won't quiet down because you find me annoying. Go Pound sand. Still looking for help on this. G900v firmware on an sm-s902l...

I didn't have any luck with the stock VZW MM ROM either. I use the Lollipop MOAR_VZW_6.6.2_BOC4 ROM for everyday use and it works perfectly. About once a week I try the latest CM 13 kltevzw nightly build. Except for a stuttering problem when sending audio through Bluetooth, CM 13 gives MM functionality and I'm still using the S902LUDU3AOG2 Baseband version.
I wonder why we can't get Verizon stock mm to work...

Galaxy s5 Keeps crashing dozens of times a day.

My phone (Galaxy s5 SM-G900F) keeps crashing for no good reason even when it is idle,
These are the things I tried,
New firmware flash
Went back to factory settings in the phone
Same version
Model number
SM-G900F
Android6.0.1
BaseBand version
G900FXXS1CQAV
Build number
MMB29M.G900FXXS1CQD1
Could this be a hardware problem or software and how do I to fix it.
Thanks In advance.

This is definitely too less info to assess what might be a culprit for your problems.
First of all you should get a proper log and analyze it yourself or (if you are not able) ask other experienced xda members or devs to do it for you.
At this link you can find some useful info how on that
One of the worst cases might be for instance corrupted internal memory but guessing is not a good way for reliable answer.
Try a new battery

I use to have that exact problem. It seems to be a problem with Samsungs Marshmallow roms. The only permanent fix is to either downgrade back to lollipop or root and upgrade to a custom nougat rom. In the later case i would use LineageOS or CrDroid android.

I only use custom nougat ROM's and have had no issues. (Maybe the occasional reboot on a panic)
I use a AICP 12.1 build by optx which is very reliable, smooth and consistent.
If you want the link to try it, let me know.
If you do try AICP, try formatting /data and ART/Dalvik cache as F2FS via TWRP. (MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE!!!)
At your own risk of course

Galaxy S4 i9505 "Downgrade" with CFW

You can, but you won't be able to make calls if you do. The KitKat upgrade changed things at the hardware level and the phone will report an invalid IMEI with older firmware.

Ok I dont used for calls, do you know which roms are still Online for Download?
I switched to LineageOS years ago because I prefer my firmware to be as up to date as possible. So I can't help you there.
