Which carrier versions are bootloader unlockable - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

Title says it all. Looking to pick one of these up as a tinker device. I know the Verizon bootloader is not unlockable, but are any of the other carrier branded devices unlockable? I've heard the AT&T and Metro PCS versions may be. Thanks!

I think that the Verizon version is the only one that's not unlockable. I can confirm that the MetroPCS/T-Mobile version is unlockable.

Verizon one

The Amazon ads version isn't unlockable either. Though they have removed the ads I believe.

I got the Amazon Version for 130$ Works great. I think there are cheaper version though. Just have to find one that you like, other than Verizon.

Thinking of buying one is the developer and T-Mobile version are same? (because it would be good for me to get custom colors with dev edition networks).

Yes they are the same, the factory stock firmware for the Unlocked version also work with the Dev version.
I will try to get developer edition..
I hope it will be great functionally..:good:
Anyone know if we can apply the $50 off discount to this?
Sent from my XT1034 using XDA Free mobile app
Looks like all the carrier versions are coming up $50 more on the website. I wonder if this will be the same in the "sale" that starts tonight? Hopefully, we get the carrier versions for $299/325 and not $50 more than that.

Nexus 6 $550 at Best Buy

Edit: I posted the below deal this morning but it was pointed out in the replies that an even steeper Nexus 6 discount was announced today (see Phandroid link below). The 32 GB Nexus 6 is now available for $500 from Best Buy and also the Google Store (64 GB for $550).
I wish to highlight a Nexus 6 deal which I could not find listed anywhere else on XDA Dev or by Google search. The unlocked Nexus 6 is available for $550 at Best Buy. To obtain it at this price, one simply needs to ask in store for the unlocked Nexus 6 and then ask for a price match against T-mobile's online store, where the phone is currently on sale for $549.84. I also called Best Buy customer service and was informed by a representative that this price match should apply in all stores and to any purchases made from the Best Buy online store.
I can confirm this approach can work, since I was able to obtain a Nexus 6 for $549.84 in store from a Best Buy store this last weekend. However, I also found a Best Buy forum post where it was claimed that the price match was initially not honored (unfortunately I cannot include the link since I am a new member). Therefore, the ease of this approach may vary according to the representative one encounters.
As an additional note, T-mobile starter kits, which include a nano SIM, are currently on sale at Best Buy for $5. Thus one can set up an unlocked Nexus 6 on T mobile for ~$555 plus tax.
I apologize if I posted this thread in the wrong place or duplicated a pre existing thread. I will monitor the thread and delete/repost if necessary.
Is there any advantage (Other than the price right now) to buying the unlocked version -vs- the carrier specific one?

The ATT and Verizon are locked to their respective carrier. However once you have them paid off for the device you can get it unloved to work on other carriers.
The hard was is all the same.

Thanks. I'm thinking of getting one but I currently have the Note 3 on ATT and they use diff sim cards. I was going to simply pop mine in. Seems like I have to get a nano sim and add another line. I hate that the carriers have us by the sacs.

If you get one you don't have to add a line just have AT&T switch Sims and phone.
You would have to buy out right. With the T-Mobile $100 off deal is a great way to save some money. Best Buy will match the price.
Also Best Buy is selling the 64gb version for $550 not the 32gb Verizon and AT&T sells.
No need for price match anymore.

Thanks, I just saw that too! Google says that TMO doesn't price match, but I'm still in my 14 day window for the one I bought from them. Has anyone had any luck getting them to price match, or at least allow a return without their restocking fee?

Is this the US model?

I am looking to buy this at JET.COM. Want to make sure its the US model of axon 7. https://jet.com/product/ZTE-AXON-7-...e-55-4GB-RAM/e71750c351a64e9d8cd0833a22de7362
Yes. Jet.com is a US company owned by Walmart.

So what? That still doesn't answer the question. Jet.com sells items from other countries, just as Wal-Mart does.
In the listing it says A7G331. Is that specific to U.S.or is that an umbrella model number for this phone?

Yes.

The second sentence is merely stating that yes, JET.com is a legit site.
(And Wal-Mart sells non-US phones? I didn't know that, will have to see what they offer when I get a chance.)

The second sentence seemed to be your rationale for saying yes, when it's not proof.
I've never bought from Jet.com but their model is similar to Amazon where various goods are sold online at discount. Amazon sells European phones, so I wouldn't be surprised if Jet.com did especially if the bands were "compatible" to U.S. carriers.
Whereas people specifically want U.S. Axon 7 model due to better audio.
It probably is the U.S.model, but just being an online discount site owned by another U.S.company doesn't guarantee that.

JET.com lists the LTE bands for the US model (some of which are not present in the other models), and the the part number "A7G331" is used by the other major retailers (Best Buy/B&H/Newegg/etc) to refer to the US model of the A7.
@borijess : While JET.com is not an "official" ZTE outlet, and therefore is not officially part of the Passport 2.0 warranty program, some people on Reddit have found that you can get your JET.com invoice to generate through Newegg (which is an official outlet), so you might still get the warranty. https://www.reddit.com/r/Axon7/comments/56uuru/if_you_ordered_from_jetcom_and_are_worried_about/
I called jet.com. They said it was the us version which is coming from newegg.

Target!
I don't know if you are in the United States, but Target has the Moto G4 Play for $80. It's network unlocked and bootloader unlockable. That is what I am using now.

The promotional G4 Play is a stripped down 8GB model (~5GB usable) which will need a decent SD card to be useable for most.
oops. Thanks for the catch. When i bought mine online it came with 16GB, didn't realize there was another model.
I got mine at target it may be able to be u locked it usually take a up to a week after purchase that moto allows u to unlock the boot loader it wouldn't let me for like 6 days

Moto G5 Plus recommendations

Hey guys! Don't kill me for asking all these questions, but..
I'm currently using a Nexus 5x, but it's gone bad (Melts chargers, usb data connection melted, etc)
I'm really interested in the Moto G5 Plus, but, I'm having difficulties finding it in person, so i intend to order one online!
So my questions go:
I have only seen two varients, a 32GB-2GB, and a 64GB-4GB. Is this it? Are they all "Potter" And will work with this rom?
Is the bootloader difficult to unlock? i see some kind of scrubber and pasting of data on a website i found.. seems kinda simple but i wanna be sure ♥
Is it safe to buy one on Amazon? The 32GB Variant is currently on sale. Is it safe to use the "Moto Maker"?
I see "DTV for XT1683 model" is broken. What is "DTV" and which model is XT1683?
Thanks for your consideration! ♥
EDIT: Too late, bought the 64GB Varient from Amazon. Wish me luck!
I just picked one up for my wife and have been pleasantly surprised. Of course we are coming from 3 yr old phones, so anything is an upgrade. Having the finger print reader, fast charge, adequate camera (certainly better than the LG G3 camera), unlockable boot loader, etc all for $180 for the non ad 32gb version I feel it is an incredible bargain.
I hope you got the non-ad version from Amazon as you cannot unlock the boot loader on the ad version. That is the only issue to watch out for. You can get rid of the ads on the ad version, but there is currently isn't a method to unlock the boot loader (and likely never will be).
Enjoy!

Which G5 Plus did you buy? The cheaper Amazon subsidized version or the slightly more expensive non amazon subsidized version?
If you bought the Amazon subsidized version just note that the root process will likely be different than the non subsidized version. See this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/help/resolved-root-moto-g5-plus-amazon-t3652932
Its a good phone with one or two issues however. Moto is apparently rolling out today a potential fix (see this post in their support subforums) for the poor/garbled audio on Verizon, no word yet if it works or if it fixes any of the other issues (like low volume on headset) the phone has.
