Anyone else have noticably worse battery life with 8.1 ?
I never used to have to charge it till 8 pm.
It's dying several hours sooner now.....
:crying:
I'm having the same issue. I've been giving it a couple days, but I think I'm going to have to do a factory reset and see if that fixes it.
Check your apps for connectivity and sleep.
I'm not having any issues.
I am in a unique situation. I have 2 Ph-1 devices. One has been upgraded from 8.1beta and the other was updated and then reset from 7.1.1 to 8.1. The one that was reset does not have battery issues.
I saw today the upgraded device loose battery for no good reason. I used to see like 7-8 SOT at 11%... im at 53% and at 2:30 SOT
Something is not right. Installed Better Battery Stats to see what is causing the battery draw... so far I see GOOGLE_C2DM at 3762 wakelocks...
I'm consistently getting 5+ hours of SOT with roughly 20-30% battery left
Personally I had worse battery life on my Pixel 2 XL on 8.1. I get about 3.5 hours SOT with 18 hrs off charger. While my V3 on 7.1 and 1+5T on 8.0 easily reach 4 hrs SOT with 24+ hrs off charger. My old essential had great battery life on 7.1 so this leads me to believe that 8.1 does cause bigger battery drains.

Battery life is very similar to 7.1.1 for me, i.e. very good.

Think I figured out part of it.
Somehow after the download of 8.1 the screen brightness got turned to the max.
Turned it my normal less than half and seems like that might have been some of the cause of battery drain.
It's past 3 PM and I'm still at 73 percent.

Screen brightness adjustment ?
Pull down the option menu from the top of the phone (all the way down), its on the top top of the menu.
Its a horizontal slide adjustment.

hello,
i ordered a moto x play two days ago and i will get my device today or tomorrow. Now i am not sure if i should upgrade to marshmallow. Regarding to some posts here the battery life seems to suffer from the update. Is this true? Do you have the same battery life with 6.0 as with 5.1.1 ? For me battery life is kind of crucial. I chose the moto because of the good battery.
I'd love to know your opinion.
Thanx in advance.
Battery life seemed a bit lower on 6.0 than on Lollipop for a few days. Now, it's stabilized, and I'd say it's almost as good

No the battery performance hasn't gone down but has instead remained same or been better now.

It's been great for me. 7-8 hrs sot with stock kernel and now on track to get 10 with Squid kernel.
I get 10+ hours SOT . With stock mm.. dual sim and mobile data.
I usually play around with the autostarts app and titanium backup. I guess, i can root my device and i will then be able to optimize the phone i like with these tools.
Thanx for your answers. I still would like to get some more votes.
regards.
I think the only difference MM can make will be due to optimizing certain apps. Its sucha shame that google play services cant be optimized. I am finding its better than LP.
Offtopic - I had a S5 (g900h) with LP 5.0.1 stock and samsung had this optimization option which lead to an awesome battery life. This is why I believe that can be the only thing which can make it better
It depends on your usecase. If you are constantly on the phone, they won't differ much. If your phone is screen-off most of the time, Marshmallows Doze mechanism can save you a ton of battery life (assumping you jumpstart it with Naptime or similar). It could possibly be matched or even overcome if you REALLY fine tune a lollipop setup with Amplify, but from a technical standpoint doze is far better, because the OS controls when the device wakes up, not the apps themselves. Also, the most recent (best?) kernels will only be for MM.
Battery drains during standby mode. Overnight battery drops upto 3-5 % is it normal? I am on 5.1.1

That's absolutely great.
It means if 4 percent decreases in 8 hours it's about 1 percent in 2 hours. Me too has same result although in between 8 hours I took a 3 minute call and my alarm rung.

Hi guys,
It's the first day of running Android 7.0, upgraded last night, off the charger at 10 AM. Now it's 2:40 in the evening and I have 28% left with 2h30m SOT till now, so I guess a ~3H SOT till the phone turns off. I find this pretty bad.
Are you experiencing the same problems? What's your first day SOT with N?
LOL!! give it time breh...... give your phone and kernel a few cycles to see how things go. Maybe report back on the weekend. That should be enough time for it to adjust to your usage
This helps me:
1. Flash stock recovery
2. Make a factory reset (save your files)
3. Setup your N6P
4. Enjoy
I am experiencing low battery life too. But that was the case on Marshmallow too until I installed the ElementalX kernel. It's an impressive kernel for sure, even when I installed it plain, without any customization of my own when it asks when installing it.
Looking to go back to elemental but only after giving Nougat's update and its kernel few more days to showcase its ability. Finger crossed!
Perhaps it's user/expectation error, OP. Give it time or do some maintenance wipes. I've been using the previews and battery life is very similar to MM, if not improved.

I also experiencing battery issue here. previously when using MM, i got > 4 hours SOT. but after upgrading to 7.0, i only get about 3 hours SOT. when I see the battery settings, the Android System is consuming more battery than the screen. I never had experience like this in MM
do you guys also have the Android System consuming much battery?
I got 4 hours and 8 mins. SOT with battery remaining at 15%. This is with sync and high accuracy location switched on. I also played 1 hours and 15 mins of NBA Live during this period. That said this is using black pepper v2 profile on stock kernel.
So for me it's not bad, though a few more cycles would be ideal to give a concrete evaluation of battery life. Doze does seem to kick in a lot more now, and phone is really deep sleeping when on standby so I think the results are promising.
Could you guys post your Screen on Time? I get average 6 to 7 hrs SOT on moderate usage.
Also would be helpful if you could share your battery saving tips

Previous day's I'm kinda disappointed with the battery life/SOT since I just get an average of 4-5 hrs. This time however, I can hit 6-7 hours. IDK what happened perhaps my charging habit? Or my habit of playing/using my note 9 while charging? Also I charge my phone overnight and I must say those did not hurt my battery but improved it. 2 hours SOT and I only lost 20%

I felt the same. Discharge was more during initial charging cycles then improved slowly. Now almost everytime i get 7 hrs. I felt the difference especially after the October update I'm seeing good battery life. :good::good:
even more screen time

Latest SOT (one UI beta)
I get around 16 Hours screen on time. My display is set to a Screen resolution of FHD+(2220x1080). I have a black theme and amoled black wallpaper. I game a lot (rise of the kings) and stream from Spotify regularly. My game performance setting is set to balanced and I went to... Settings>Device maintenance>battery and added apps that need to run in the Unmonitored catagory. Email Facebook Skype and so on. The rest I put into the always sleeping catagory. I have the snapdragon Canadian variant SM-N960W. Had it 5 months now and on a non gaming day I can push 20 hours. I don't watch videos tho, got a TV for that. I also disabled any unneeded apps and removed all bloatware. Hope I've given you some ideas.
Cheers!
Here are the stats:
Verizon
9.0.11
Not rooted
I updated yesterday and the battery drain is a crapshow. Fully charged since 9 am, and its 1:30 now and I'm 84%, with a 6 min screen on time.
I literally touched my phone 10ish just to check messages and text a few people.

Not seeing a difference with 9.0.11 on mine over previous versions.
As for suggesting installing a kernel on a non rooted phone :-/
I also have the same problem, when I was in 9.0.7 I was able to get as much as 13hours screen on time in 48 hours or 7 hours in 6 days. Amazing battery life. Updated yesterday and the phone cannot compare. It is draining as much as 10% over night.
I am stock, no root.
Yeah they fcked something up.
Also beta2 has issues with standby drain...
I've seen this on and off. Some nights latent drain is 3%, others it is 13% with almost no app usage monitored.
Maybe cellular draw? Tonight I'm going into airplane mode with WiFi on and see what happens.

Do you have any social media apps? 7 hrs of sot in 6 days without a charge is nuts even that 13 hours of SOT in 48 hrs is impressive. I've been nowhere near those numbers with my 6t

Ya it must only be possible to get that good of sot without those apps. Do you use any Google apps, I know that is another battery drainer which decreases maximum sot potential.

Yes, I use a lot of them, maps, Gmail, keep, calendar, etc etc.
Move to beta 2
Last night I let my phone on .11 sit idle for 9 hours in airplane mode with WiFi on. It drained 7 % over this time which is more than I used to see on build .07 with cell service on.
The odd thing is that apps are reporting very low usage (in total less than 1% of the battery overnight) so I need to look deeper. Phone is >95% deep sleep overnight.
Some nights low drain, some nights high, no pattern I have found.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
.11 overnight (8 hours) on mine is currently draining around 3% over that period with everything on as normal.
I have experienced the same. But, after having .11 installed over a week now suddenly my SOT has improved to same level I had with .07.
I have read somewhere that since it is software controlled the system has to "learn" the most efficient way to handle, e g the option "Smart battery" (have that always on), and that process should take approx 1 week.
I do not know what's happens when I updated to a newer version. Maybe the system has to "relearn" again? My device is rooted, so I receive the full version on every update (no incremental) - maybe that also have an impact on the battery performance.
I do not say there lays any proof in this "theory", but my battery life is very good again (around 13 hours SOT/48 hours total). So in case you have updated recently, be patient for some extra days.
If I knew about this I would have stayed with 9.0.7. Let's hope they fix this soon.
Rebooted about an hour before going to bed, let phone charge to 100%. Unplugged. 9 hours later it was still at 98%. This was the first reboot in a while. Just a data point; previous night even with cellular off it lost lots more than that.

Hey guys, my s10 plus battery wasnt that great out the box I was averaging 4:30 sot that's with alot of spotify 1 hour of YouTube snapchat all day and all the social apps, I recently changed it to wqhd and not only my screen looks better my battery life is much better I'm now getting 5:30-6 hours of sot it seems like Samsung optimised the display for the battery where on my s9 plus wqhd was draining more battery but it seems to improve battery on s10, just seeing if anyone's had the same experience
Hmmm.. Let me try that. I've only used FHD on my S10 since I got it.

What I know is that you have to be patient. The internal AI will adopt to your usage and then improve your battery life. It will take 2 or 3 weeks.

Nope, that was just coincidence. Changing to WQHD+ will not improve battery life. It will reduce battery life by a very tiny amount. You must have had something else happen at the same time.
This is why comparing battry life with others is pointless, because there are just too many variables. As you have found, you can't even compare battery life with yourself without getting onconsistent results.

No reason it should take weeks to settle in. My first full day on the s10+ was 5.5 hours screen on time and still had 49% left after 16 hours. Currently on 40 hours off charger 7.2hrs sot and 17% left. This battery really is amazing but will always vary between users. Can't see how wqhd could do anything but hurt battery life but I'll run it tomorrow just to see what happens.

Thats insane. 5.5hours sot with almost 50% battery left? Surely you have turned off LOTS of features / adjusted brightness and various settings?
For me to achieve that i would need to use the phone at almost its lowest brightness and disable background activity, turn off auto sync, bluetooth, and pretty much anything else thats a battery drain!

I don't think I have that much disabled. Brightness is on auto and is often pretty bright, power saver is on medium so background data is disabled along with auto sync because I don't need push notifications. I have bixby routines turn on auto sync when charging at night to sync anything that needs it. I use Bluetooth in the car and for headphones at the gym. Probably 6-7 Bluetooth hours on that screenshot. Not much WiFi since I'm never home. Location on. Don't use bixby itself because, well, who does? It's pretty effortless really. Especially compared to my note 8 where it's nearly dead at 5 hours sot.
I'm upped the resolution on my S10 plus from the beginning and getting anywhere from 8-9 hours sot. Way better than the iPhone 10s Max I had! A lot faster too!
With a week so far of using the S10 I've gotten equal battery life with FHD and QHD. About 4.5hrs SOT and 15-19 hours up time.

Ah you have battery saver mode on. It works magic to extend your battery life. It gave me good life on my S9+ when I had it. But my logic is why did I have to have battery saver on to match the battery life that I got on my 1+6 and Pixel 2 XL?

Yeah. I've always used battery saver on every phone I've had. I'm kind of a battery life junky and when battery drains fast or when idling it bothers me. Some reason I got better life in my note 8 without saver on though. Helps on my s10 though and easily outlasts my wife's pixel 2 XL. It really all just depends on the user though. 4.5 sot is still a respectable time in my opinion especially for heavier users and about what I got on my note 8 and had no complaints. Difference now though is that I can use the s10 HEAVILY in one day and it won't die whereas my note 8 would have been dead hours before and would need a boost late in the day.
