Hello,
I am on stock rooted (KyleBryant's method). I'm getting the OTA popup.
Should I take the OTA, and if I do, can I just repeat the rooting method?
Thanks!

You can take the ota, after you reflash full stock firmware, after which you'll just have to reflash twrp and Magisk to reroot. Or, you can just wait a little bit for me to make a ROM and partition updater from the updated firmware, which I was going to do some time today.

Goose, did you create that ROM and partition updater? Not sure where it would be, or how to use it.
Thanks!

I saw in the other threads that it does not break any root or TWRP. I mean, TWRP just came out, there is no way that an update could be made and pushed that quickly. I'm still waiting to apply the update, I have not installed TWRP yet (waiting on that to be polished too).

true, i guess i could buy the phone tomorrow morning and just do root and freeze the OTA
The OTA does not break root or TWRP.
NO
OTA fixes things, doesn't break anything IF IF IF you don't have TWRP installed already. I personally took the OTA, root did not get broken. then installed TWRP, did a backup, no issues. Just make sure you read the directions on the TWRP thread, so that you don't throw yourself in a bootloop.
DO NOT INSTALL THE OTA IF YOU HAVE TWRP INSTALLED ALREADY.

If you haven't rooted yet and install the update or it automatically installs for you as other have said happened to them. You can still root your phone? I saw a guide on here that allows you to after the OTA update. But can you still install TWRP after the fact?
Yes!

Yes, use this guide to root, even after the OTA.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
Then use this guide to TWRP it up.

Yes, this is what I did and had ZERO issues. Provided that you don't have TWRP already installed. Which by your post, i'm assuming you don't, putting that there for others.
If anyone is in a recovery loop because of installing the OTA with TWRP installed, there is a fix for that now as well.

Just wanted to make sure, thank you :highfive:
So how do I take the OTA if I am already rooted and on TWRP? I have read elsewhere that if you take the OTA with TRWP you get booting issues.

Two options:
1) return to stock (there is a thread for this), take the ota, root, twrp. This will wipe ALL OF THE THINGS on your phone, including sd card.
2) take the ota, then when in twrp (newest version w/adb support), when in tarp, apply the fix to flip the recovery flag (there is a thread for this as well).
Do i need to take the OTA update before flashing TWRP. After reading the post in Development for installing it made it sound like I should take the OTA update with root already then install TWRP, just want to clarify. Below is the portion of the post in question.
" IF YOU ARE UPDATED AND UNABLE TO ROOT, FOR NOW THE ONLY WAY IS TO FLASH BACK TO STOCK AND ROOT BEFORE THE OTA, THEN TAKE THE OTA, THEN INSTALL TWRP"
Phone status:
Reverted back to stock after the Chinese root. Re-rooted with the new method using the LG flash tool. Froze the system update app. So I am on the stock build without the OTA update and rooted.
I never took the ota, just flashed twrp while on original stock.

Thanks for the fast reply.
Did you then take the OTA update after TWRP was flashed? I have not seen anything stating what exactly the update was/did.

Nah I never take ota's.
I picked up my G2(Verizon) on Saturday, took the OTA, rooted and installed TWRP with no issues. Some were saying that they couldn't root after the OTA, which isn't true, and I think that is confusing some people. Besides, you can't take an OTA after installing a custom recovery. You need to be back to stock in order to do that.
update
Just pushed TWRP with sucsess. I never took the OTA update, making a back up now. Thanks for the info/help guys.
Hi guys
What is the least troublesome way of getting to 7.1.1 rooted/twrp from 6.0 rooted/xposed/unlocked/twrp installed ?
I'm willing to wipe, and would really just like a flashable zip but don't see any.
I'm not that familiar with update.zip's , but it seems like that might be the long way around, is to wipe system, apply the update.zip from ZTE and then accept the latest OTA? I don't know if that overwrites TWRP or whether an update.zip will even apply over TWRP ... ?
thanks for any advice

I don't know if you can get to 7.1.1 yet, but you can get to 7.0. I think you might have to wipe, and XPosed isn't availible for Nougat quite yet. The OTA update from ZTE won't work because your phone doesn't have the stock signature. Most stock ROMs you flash will take away TWRP and replace it with the stock recovery.
Miflash b15 full, take ota, flash twrp and su.
TWRP Flashable B19 (7.1.1) is coming

Thanks I muddled through by applying the B15 update.zip, then taking the OTA, and now I'm trying to get TWRP back and rooted.

You've probably figured it out, but I'll give you this just in case: https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/help/upgraded-2017u-rooted-7-0-to-7-1-1-t3574033
I got the OTA update, and I stand corrected on not being able to receive them.

Thanks. It was a new development that I didn't know about that miflash can be used, so once I found where to get it, and got through it's idiosyncracies (what a horrible f-ing app it is) it was smooth sailing.
Hi,
I am pretty new to Oneplus phones and rooting overall. Can someone please list the steps for applying OTA after you root your phone so that the data is not wiped ?
Thanks in advance for the help !!!

Don't apply the OTA.
You need to unroot.
That means flashing the boot.img from the release you are on, then take the OTA.
After taking the OTA re-root.

Ah... That makes sense. So just flashing boot.img from the current release does not wipe my device, then take OTA. Then root again.
Where can I find the right boot.img I need?
Hello,
You can follow the instructions fr this thread; I can attest to the steps as I have tried them with success.

Wiping everything, reflashing official rom and twrp? So what's the meaning of the new twrp feat?

Normally the way to upgrade as long as you are doing official is to download the OTA and do a local update.
Then install TWRP. I never wipe to upgrade.

OK, since I only had custom roms and twrp and read somewhere that twrp didn't support official Ota I thought that to flash new Ota I had to wipe clean everything and reflash : x

No.
If you are on the stock OOS or the Beta OOS as long as you stay on the same stock or beta; you download the OTA and do a local install.
This preserves your data and you only need to install TWRP and Magisk again.
I don't understand people that whine about having to install TWRP or Magisk again since it only takes about 5 minutes to do correctly.
I just do an OTA local install and hook the phone up to my computer and re-install TWRP, etc.

Sorry, was not talking about you specifically.
Going from a custom ROM to OTA, you do need to wipe.
Going from any ROM to any other ROM, you need to wipe.
you can always "dirty flash" but there is no guarantee for wonky behavior.
On the other hand people want to take the OTA and preserve root.
Rooting take five minute so I don't understand the jumping through hooks to keep root.
