Hi i bought New S8 02.03.2018r.
So I have it 8 Days... and my battery Time is teribble look at SS sorry for my bad english... on 100% battery Samsung Tell me he can work for 10 hours rly? My old S7 had better results... I dont know what I should do
It happend to me as well when I bought it. Give it some time and it will optimize things.
Also, what's your usage like? LTE all the way, no wifi?
As a note, when I got mine it kept at ~3hours of SOT for awhile, now I get 5 minimum with my usage (I'm what you call a power user).

So how Long it take... because it's terrible I must take charger with me...
I didn't really pay attention. It took ~ a week after I finished with all the setup and updates and everything. I.e. once I was back to my normal self/usage.
Like everything in life it needs some time to settle.
I had this with every smartphone I had.
Cheers!
Like I said I have this 8 Days... and it's The same 3,45 h SOT and 9H on battery when I use it
I think it all varies, and there are a lot of factors to take into consideration.
For me it took that long to settle because I have a lot of apps that I need (around 30) mostly work related, that require some time to build caches and everything.
Anyway, here's my usage for ~5hours of SOT:
-WiFi most of the day
-brightness at 40%
-data on regardless of WiFi (in case I have to run outside or something)
-around 20apps with push notifications on
-bluetooth always on and connected to my gear s2
-location always on
-calls ~2hours a day
-texting a lot (WhatsApp and regular text)
I charge it in the mornings and it gets me all the way to next morning with ~ 15/20% left.
That said, battery consumption cannot be determined solely by screen on time, there are a lot of other things that might drain your battery, for example LTE(mobile data) always on.
I'm on mobile data at most a couple of hours a day(WiFi at work and at home) so that helps a lot with battery life.
I also don't keep more than 10 apps running, and I tend to close an app if I'm done with it for the day.
But it all depends on usage.
If I play games(which I rarely do) the screen on time would decrease considerably, as games use the gpu and processor a lot.
Also, I keep my screen's brightness at around 30/40% (mostly because I hate it when my eyes hurt from too much brightness ).
Get use to it - battery in S8 is crap. You can try to root it, debloat it, greenify it, forcedoze it. I did all of that, but, nevertheless my s8 has to be charged on everyday basis.

In every phone the battery is not good ( except sony in my experience).
I had some 4000 maH battery phones and frankly after 6 months i got to charge them every day. Especially after updates. That is unfortunate because we spent lot of money for them. Nevertheless i am happy for now with the performance and didn't debloat anything. If it gets worse i would change the battery and go on.

Yeah, sony have somewhat better battery life from my pov as well. Maybe it's because Samsung have better display and stronger guts inside, or it's "stamina mode" magic. It's a shame that Sony phones are so ugly nowadays.

Hi guys,
So bought the Verizon Galaxy S5 for my fiance when it came out. Over the past week or two it's been dying rather quickly. Attached are some battery metrics I took from the screenshot. Do they look normal to you?
It looks like the android system is using up all the battery, but I'm not sure why this is.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Mike
It seems your Gps is on.
Keep GPS off.(Location).
This will help you to boost your battery.
this is perfectly normal. having 35% after 8 hours is actually average

You have unrealistic expectations. Using two thirds of the charge over 8 hours is not atypical. Why do you believe otherwise?
You can do various tweaks to gain a few hours e.g. GPS always off, short screen time outs, perhaps install some inverted apps (black themed screens use considerably less battery), et cetera. Or perhaps invest in an extended capacity battery. Or some people feel that it is easier to carry a spare battery.
.
.
What is everyone on in this thread?! 8 hours is nothing and unless you have been gaming non stop, which seems doubtful considering the display being almost non existent in the log, you should normally get at least 24-48 hours with about 3-5 hours of screen time. Something is wrong with either the software or the battery, but normally it is a software problem, BBS is your friend.

You sir, are a troll until proven otherwise. You are simply wrong, perhaps the reason why all of the other posts disagree with you. 24+ hours is not normal. The only way anyone would get that kind of duration is to have the phone off most of the time and most people do not use their phones that way. The OP had 8.6 hours at @ 32% remaining, a wholly normal result.
Certainly battery life varies widely depending on GPS & wifi use, gaming, screen time and so forth. But to claim that 24+ hours is normal is egregiously specious.

Wow wow, hold your horses, you are being serious? It is completely normal for me with my 900F model and a lot of people are getting it. 24/48 hours is my typical battery with phone on (the battery obviously doesn't count power off, so that is a moot point anyways). I happened to make a SS last month and will share it for you to see and I didn't even try to save the battery, I never do since the battery of the S5 is so exceptional!
I agree, it does not look normal. Something is probably holding wake locks or working the CPU. There's a lot of badly written apps out there, including some of the most popular. I've seen FB messenger and Slacker radio apps use 2-6% CPU in the background for no good reason, consistently until force closed.
In any case, try to install an app that can read wakelocks, like BetterBatteryStats or GSAM. Also check the tasks screen in Android Tuner to see if something is keeping the CPU busy in the background for no reason.
Once you figure out the abnormal drain, try installing my app, LeanDroid to extend your battery even more

I am on the latest 7.0 beta, T-Mobile version, I am getting pretty frustrated. I only get ~2 hours of on screen time. Right now at 30% and Android System has used 1350 mAh and CPU total is close to 5 hours.
Attached some pictures from yesterday and basically the same exact thing - maybe one of the packages listed is killing the battery?
I know there are a lot of posts about this issue but nothing that I've found useful unfortunatlely.

Been thinking about doing that, but not sure why it got really bad all of a sudden. I could get 3 to 4 hours before.

I am getting pretty fed up. Thought the new updates would make it better but no go for me.
If only you got root, I strongly recommend using Myandroidtools/disable service. Samsung roms sucks pretty bad, I have never ever experienced something like battery drain on other phones. Since I disabled 80+ Google Services and some samsung bloat, android system takes about 2-4% drain after a whole day. I am using Renovate on nougat.
Looks like a lot of you are very unlucky. My battery life is superb! At the end of the day I still have ~35% battery remaining. I recharge every night regardless of how much battery I have left, so it does me just fine

I would strongly advise to stay away from any of those 'fancy' package disablers.
They do no good and often deteriate things. I have on average over 8hours SOT and never used disablers.
Most Samsung apps don't put any drain on the battery. It's things like Facebook etc that hog resources.
Yeah, if only i got Facebook apps installed. I have fully working locations, notifications and other stuff - most of services I disabled are feedbacks, silent loggers and stuff I dont need or use. Only corrupted app is Gmail - which I don't use.
I got sync switched on, lots of calls, auto brightness, voice assistant and usually get 5 hours SOT during my usage which isn't bad at all.
So not sure what did it, but I installed Greenify and also changed from 1080p to 1440p and I get about 3ish hours on screen time. Still terrible but will do for now.
My phone also feels faster after changing resolution back to 1440p. So weird.

I really don't think you're right as that's not my experience either. I cited the article because usually the tech websites have some experience - my anecdotal data, or yours, doesn't carry much weight.
As posted before, my screen time has increased and keeps going up. Got near 4 hours of on screen time today. Greenify must have killed a process that was putting the CPU on overdrive and which showed up under Android System. I shouldn't have to take the time to find fixes however since Samsung and the Doze feature should be doing this already.
I appreciate your advice, no need to get upset we're just having a discussion...

I don't really see a discussion in the fact that AOD uses a lot of battery if you keep it on all day, it's pretty much guaranteed that AOD is the main culprit. And your own experience with your phone and its settings is worth a lot more than the experiences from some tech website. Everyone's phone/settings is different.
Tired of getting 2h30 SOT (plugging off power at 7 am and needing to plug on again at 2 pm) I decided to spend a few bucks on a new battery. I own a nexus 5x for 10 months, so I thought maybe battery has been underperforming.
I've ordered also the needed tools so I could do the job myself. Very easy by the way.
I was excited to see how the brand new battery would perform the next day. So I plugged off power at 7 am and 2 pm I needed to plug back on power (2h30 sot). YEAH, I HAD NO IMPROVE AT ALL with a new battery.
Maybe it's that I have too many apps (100 at about), but I'm not the one who lives with whatsapp only.
So in order to relieve the pain of not getting through out the day I've bought an S7 edge and now I can settle down so I know I will get past through the day. I dislike many things on S7, like the crap fingerprint sensor and the inconsistent physical home button, but I'll try to live with it. My next bet would be the Xperia XZ, so I'm still considering.
So it was an unburden, but I feel I can help someone out with this experience.
Have you tried a third rom or ex kernel?
im kinda in the same boat. just received my 2nd replacement battery today... gonna see how the battery compares tomorrow with stock unrooted. if no change i'll be trying purenexus + elementalx with Hawktail 1.2 profile.... such a struggle with this phone........
I don't know about you, but my typical work day I range from 6-7 hours with around 3.5 SoT average. That's pretty okay, given how low our batteries are for this phone. I use SimpleAOSP + Franco kernel.

I know.
Since I have updated to Nougat, I have only 2 to 3 SOT. Also with franco kernel or elemtalx no improvement, no matter which profile.
Marchmallow was better with the battery performance.
I will try pure nexus with custom kernel (franco or elementalx).
I'm also wondering why the Android operating system has such a big battery consumption according to "betterbatterystats".
Otherwise always it was the google services.

Which time do you plug off and on to power again? I mean, how many hours do you stay off the wall outlet?
How many apps do you have installed?
Do you use antes app/kernel for the purpose off extending battery life?
Thanks!

I have about 50 apps but i am very careful about apps i install and use. When i am at home on wifi all day it gets me 6-7 hrs SOT. I used most of the kernels i found on the XDA but now i am settled with minimalistic ABC rom with implemented DU kernel.

at first i was getting the same results but i've made some major improvements by using airplane mode when at work with wifi, greenifying almost all of my apps, removing Fitbit sync/notifications, and using the greenify manual hiberate now widget. getting over 2hrs of SoT now but it's still nowhere near the results I've seen from others using PureNexus Rom + ElementalX kernel (Hawktail 1.2 profile)
The battery of my Nexus 5x (not rooted) seemed to be nearly dead. Smartphone shut down at 50%, and sometimes the battery went down from 80% to 30% within a minute. Then suddenly the mainboard of my Nexus died. The mainboard was replaced and Android was resetted. After this the battery works as if it's a new battery.

I dont really know what you do in order to get less than 3h SOT, or what brightness you run your device on, or what apps you have installed, or if you have NFC, location, Bluetooth or LTE turned on all the time, but on this phone it is the usage that determines battery life. I got a new Nexus 5x with an old battery and had the same results. Ordered a new battery for about 10$ and got arround 5-5:30 h of SOT with the same usage over arround 43 h of stand by withouth charging in between on full stock. You might want to check whata draining your battery or maybe you are a multitasker that streams music, types on FB, browses instagram all at the same time while the screen is on 40% brightness.
For me 5x battery sucks, i want to get 6p soon, but price is a little bit too high now so i must wait some time to buy.
Im using Jolla kernel now, with small cluster -> 3cores, 1,2GHZ and big cluster -> 2 core 768MHz max.All on zzmove. Battery is now improved, some times big cluster shuts off sometimes it's working, but performance is good for dialy use. Multitasking is fine, chrome web browsing also. ~ 4h 20mins of SOT, previously ~ 3h.
So i think NOW battery is really good for my 1yr old phone.
ROM and kernel are inconsequential to battery life in comparison to normal factors such as usage, settings and signal. Without reducing performance or functionality (GAPs) the most you could hope for is +10-20%, if even that.
Low screen time doesn't mean your battery life is bad as that's just one form of measuring battery life. If you do a lot of messaging and phone calls for instance you will never have long screen time as you need to actively be using the screen in order to increase SoT. If SoT is your only measure of battery life then you don't understand how it works.
I regularly see 5-6 hours SoT over 24+ hours without root or disabling much, as I use my phone for mostly browsing and streaming.
Post some screenshots in our Battery Thread and I will take a look. Replacing hardware should be the last option for improving battery life.
I think it's not about the battery, rom, kernel, settings, installed apps....
I think......it's only about the device
I tried EVERYTHING. changed battery, all android versions, tried without google account, kernels, profiles, custom roms, interactive settings, I don't even use many apps
my device has abnormal consumption. period.
I have 3 friends with n5x that do more than 4 hrs of screen on
mine does 2. and I can do nothing. it's just this
I don't know if warranty could cover such thing, it would be hard to detect on RMA since is very user related

Post your Battery usage here. Lets see what we get with these new devices.
Is Bad battery...
Can't say I'm very impressed so far, I switched from a snapdragon s10 plus. Stand by battery drain was never a problem on the s10. I would finish the day with at least 50% battery left. Less than 3 hours screen time and I'm at 40%. And that's running at 60 fps, 1080p. Snapdragon was so much more efficient for me.

So far, not too impressed either, getting 5.5 hours of screen on time, with no video watching or gaming. Literally bit of instagram, whatsapp, messenger, camera and spotify. This is at 120hz FHD+.
This will honestly be my my ''normal usage'' but still having removed it from charge at 9.30am and after 12 hours on 20% is a bit sad to some point, specially after those youtube videos with 6.5 hours of screen on time playing games and and filming videos and what not... Hopefully they will get a fix for it, this is UK version with the (not so lovely) Exynos...
Coming from an LG G6 lets say battery wise Im having same performance
For me 6 hours with 120hz, that literally destroys the battery, switching back to 60hz you get 1 - 2 hours more....watching youtube is no issue, but as soon as you get to any scrolling or
multitasking it all goes away.. especially with that 120hz, also it's not very efficient in standby, you can go to sleep with 100 percent and wake up with 93 or something like that..
Hopefully they'll get an update
Not awesome battery life, if I wasn't careful I need to charge twice a day
50% left, 2h33 min screen on. I disconnected charger at 12am, woke up at 7am. Lost 5% during the night with 4g on. I was playing a lot today. Screen at 120hz
It's so unbelievable bad... Damn :/
I'm glad i.ordered the Snapdragon version
This is always the case when buying Samsung flagships early. An update comes out a few months after to address the issue.
Hmm, I have to agree with you. Upon further use, I don't think stand by drain is the issue. It seems to be more app optimisation. Have to give it some time for developers to optimise their apps for this processor.

Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you. There is even speculation that exynos doesn't get the same Sony sensors for the camera. Instead we get Samsung made one's. Totally not cool for sure. I imported a snapdragon s10 last year and it was amazing for battery life profomance. But honestly, I can fully charge this phone in just over an hour. So to say that the shorter battery life is a major problem is just not true imo.

Where did you get your Snapdragon S10 from? I think I'll order from Amazon.com
Which country are you from? Did the Snapdragon work perfectly with your carrier and 4G?

In Australia. Had the china s10 I believe. Everything worked just fine. Although I believe things are a little more complicated when it comes to 5g.

Unless one is next to the wall everyday or likes carrying a power bank that personally I hate, it certainly is a problem.

I understand, but I haven't come even close to needing to charge the phone during the day yet. I'd say I'm losing about 10 to 15% more battery then I did on the s10 so all good for now.

Yes, "usage pattern". I'm charging twice a day with the +, something that I did years back..
This is the only complaint i have so far, battery life. It is not disturbingly awful, but I usually have to charge it in the late afternoon, so I dont run out of juice in the evening (I am getting 3.5 - 4 hours of screen time). Situation is even less annoying since It charges really fast. I am running optimised battery plan, bluetooth, wifi, data on. Other than that it is a beast, I am fully enjoying android freedom over my iphone X. Battery will probably improve with updates though.
First and first full charge, 120hz all time. Let's see next days.
Does anyone know that is wrong with my phone?
the standby battery life off the chart
i can get close to 9h SOT stright no problem, but if i leave it on standby i can't even get 16hours out of it
no warm, hot or something like that
i thought it was the battery but it is still the same after replace the battery
i've try anything i can find on internet
1.Disable AOD
2.Reset network setting
3.airplane mode
4.factory reset
5.screen resolution
6.adaptive brightness,adaptive power saving
7.reflash firmware
8.replace new battery
9.switch it off for 24hours(not even lose 1%)
i'm ran out of idea now
if anybody know what wrong with this phone please help me
sorry for my english ><
You might need to take it somewhere and have a tech look at it or contact Samsung on it or claim warranty with Samsung.
See if it does it in safe mode.
Probably a rogue apk(s)... a software issue.
okay i'm going to give a try on safe mode
it's still there losing a about 15% over 5 hours on idle.
Same on my note 10. Battery live just went bad over nigh, exactly 1 year after I bough the phone. So I guess this is build in to make us upgrade to the next gen phone. I won't even waste my money to replace the battery because I know it won't make any difference. Typical $am$ung

I'm running on Pie with a 10+ so you may have different issues/solutions. One of the big reasons I never upgrade; I have this phone optimized, it's fast, stable, reasonably secure and I like it. Took a lot of time to get to this point.
Lol, I'm still happily running W7x64
Probably a Google apk; Backup Transport*, Google Services Framework and Google Play Services are known offenders.
Try clearing their data.
I package block the first 2 and use Karma Firewall to block GP Services except when I need it for gmail or gmaps.
In Developer options look at running services.
Also in the same look at Standby apps; all buckets should show as active. If not then power management** is active, disable all power management; Android will manage it's self nicely.
Enable only the "Optimized" option for display/cpu and fast charging in Device Care.
Use the factory load version of Device Care if on Pie. Firewall block it though after which use it's system cache cleaner.
Download Galaxy Labs Battery Tracker from the Galaxy store.
Download Karma Firewall from Playstore.
Consider using this: https://www.packagedisabler.com/
*turning off backup Transport in goggle settings doesn't stop it and Framework is a dependency of the former I think. It needs blocked too and will still show as running but at a very reduce amount.
Occasionally even when blocked all 3 need their data cleared to stop excessive battery usage.
**track down the roque apks one by one and deal with them without using power management options.

i completely agree with you
there no point replacing the battery like i did
Li-Ion/Li-Poly can't go bad in just 1 night unless it blow up or something
even my previous note 5 battery can take charge day in day out for over 3years without needing a new battery.

Avoid charging to 100%
Avoid draining below 30%
Never charge battery if temp is below 60F and especially if freezing or below.
Ideal charging start charging temp seems to be about 80-90F
Keep battery temp below 100F whenever possible.
Shut it down or cool it if battery reaches 105F when using it.
Li's like small frequent midrange charge cycles*.
I run between 40-65% normally and fast charge it 3 to 4 times a day.
A charge takes about 10-12 minutes.
I'm at over a year and not seeing any detectable deterioration yet.
*this can extend the battery life by hundreds even thousands of full charge cycles.

Live and learn. Play with it and sort it out.
You could always get it flashed back to the original firmware if worse comes to worst... hopefully that won't be necessary.

agree, this will reduce the stress on the battery except on Note4,that phone just keep asking for new battery every
6-12months no matter what i do.
for me personally i just use it as day in day out like most people do course i don't mind replacing the battery every 1-2 years as long it works the way it should,i mean not the way my S10+ does right now ><

I haven't been a saint with the 10+'a battery but the insults add up if you do it every day.
Likewise being conservative with the charging and temp parameters should too.
It will be interesting how long this battery lasts as I use the phone a lot.
Accubattery to spite it's faults is a good monitoring tool. It's charge reminder is handy and it's milliamp overlay has been useful.
It also logs charge/discharge milliamps and times which is probably the best battery indicator.
speaking of discharge rate, may i know whats your?
mine was like 100ma-150ma on idle off screen thats pretty high even compare to 3 years old device

Disable Android updates. Only update after others have given feedback and you have more to gain than loss. Once you update you may well need to start this witch hunt all over.
Androids are fun to play with... go to it
noted,will do
do you recommended me to rollback to 1st 4 bin Nov firmware or just stick with current firmware?

Depends what you want. If not sure, play with this one for a while.
I'm still running on Pie on my 10+ so I don't bother looking much at updates.
I'm not pleased with Q though so it's a no brainer to stay with Pie. At this point I have near zero issues, it's fast, stable, it does all I need it to do and runs the apps I use well.
