Occasionally folder disapper - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi,
I searched a lot but only found "might be - answers"...
Problem:
Install IGO basarsoft from the internal storage. All data remain in internal storage because I always run
into write-permission problems with external SD..
Ok - works for some days.
Suddenly, the igo-folder is gone - deleted by ????
I installed the same apps in other phones, e.g. S4 and S7 with Lineage..
Never got this problem.
I disabled all virus scanners etc.
What else is "watching" memory consumption and tries to "OPTIMIZE" my phone be simply
deleting data ??
NO APPs should be deleting data without asking me...

Corrupt IE Cache when moved to SD card?

Lately I've noticed that when I'm using Pocket IE I'll try to go to a web site and it will start to load, then IE simply closes and I'll be back at the today screen. It doesn't happen on the same web site every time, but once it starts happening for a particular website it will keep happening on that website until I go into the options for IE and clear the cache. Lately it's been happening once a day or more and it's starting to get rather annoying. I'm about ready to try to move the cache back off the SD card.
Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks,
Brett
Same here. I was suspecting:
- IE cache on SD
- GPRS connection always on
As those were the two tweaks I did just before the problem started.
Just a few hours ago I tweaked the gprs connection back to the way it was, but the problem came back.
I suppose it is the SD cache then.
I do not use GPRS connection. When I moved IE cache to my SD card, this problem occurred. After I moved it back to internal storage, the problem was gone.
I put the cache in the sd card but i dont have that problem
IE Cache
I also had this problem and moving the cache off the sd card resolved the problem. I wish there was a quicker way to clear the cache.
For me this was Cache on the SD card. I tried it for a day but obviously could not tolerate the problem just to save on memory. Moved it back and the problem is gone.
Regards
I had the same problem with the cache on the sd-card.
I "moved" the cache back to the device, and deleted the cache from PIE options.
Then I emptied the cache folder on the sd card and "moved" the cache to the sd card.
Is it possible that some content of the cache is somehow indexed in a database? So there would be an inconsistency when only the path is changed... :?:
Cache in sd brake Internet Explorer
Finally I had to set the cache in rom because IExplorer speed was very slow.Ok guys, we need a solution. we need to purge the cache automatically or be able to change the cache size (if I change it in the registry it is restored when system boots)...
Could it be the type/brand of sdcard? Maybe, I've just been lucky so far. I haven't experienced this problem yet?
I have a Sandisk Ultra II 1 GB.. Am I just lucky so far.

I dunno... mine is a Sandisk 512M
Brett
hi all,
I don't believe it has to do with the SD card. I am currently using a HTC Apache (Sprint PPC-6700) and I am also having this problem. I am using a Sandisk 1G miniSD. I have moved the temp folders back to main memory and haven't had any problems. :?
I am guessing, could this be related to the write speed of regular SD cards? It seems that the only one that reported no problem in this thread is using a faster-writing card (Sandisk Ultra).
Yesterday I was testing the SD card caching again. I was loading a very long blog page with lots of photos, the page size close to 1 MB. IE crashed and closed itself towards the end of loading that page. I cleared the cache and tried it again. It still crashed almost at the same spot. And the same for the third time. It almost looked like the SD card couldn't keep up with the amount of data that needs to be cached. (I was using WiFi.)
I also remembered the last time I was using SD for IE caching, I was surfing the web using Verizon's EVDO service (at around 100-200K speed), and I was able to surf for a few hours before IE started acting funny. When I use WiFi for surfing, however, IE crashed much sooner.
I have had this happen too, but never thought it could be caused by having the cache on my SD card. I always thought it was a memory issue, because a soft reset has always fixed the problem. Next time it happens, I'll try flushing the cache to see if that fixes it.

Hermes screws up memory card

I've been having an issue with my device. Once every week or so, something happens to my 16 GB SanDisk memory card. Exactly what happens I can't tell you, but it can be stuff from Media Player not beeing able to add files to the library (but plays them fine if you open them manually), to the phone freezing after entering PIN upon start-up. Sometimes it freezes randomly, and I have to remove the SD-card. Whenever this happen, using my card reader and running Vistas error-checking sorta helps it, or if I can isolate a file that causes a problem (not a program, any kind of file) and delete it, it usually works.
But, why does this happen? I never take the card out of the phone, except when trying to fix the errors. I sync over Bluetooth and USB, I've used different ROMs (I think, I've flashed quite a few recently so can't tell for sure), I've used diffrent line-up of programs, but it stills keep acting weird. Any clues? It's quite annoying. I didn't search the forums, since I honestly don't know what to search for. Any clues or search strings are most welcome! Thanks!
Forgot to mention, I'm currently running CRC's latest stable, but, as I said, I don't think that's the problem.
same thiong happened to me
My mem card started showing up files with some weird names, other files were unaccesible, programs stopped responding and the phone would freeze until I took out the mem card. What I id to fix the issue was, took out all the vital info (keep it minimal cuz there might be a corrupted file and we dont want to transfer that one to the phone again. format your memory card using a "low level" format application http://lmgtfy.com/?q=low+level+format+freeware+download+sd&l=1 then pop it back in again and the phome will format it, and transfer your old data back. This happened to me a while back and havnt had a single issue sience the low level thingie. Hopes this helps
I'm afraid this is a common enough problem and has been written about many times. Causes vary from software errors, switching off before all data is written or even physical contacts between phone and card (some evn say different brands of card work better).
If it happens that you see corrupt file names do not continue using the device or open programs or trying to delete data. Imediately perform a soft reset, this can recover (sometimes) the corrupt FAT file and save data.
The inability to save Media Player files to the library is an un-related issue and is a known software issue. You can overcome the issue by deleting the msmetadata file (search this forum for more info). Unfortunately it's something you may have to do fairly regularly.

[Q] App settings being reset

I've had my HTC Aria for about 2 weeks now and I have constantly been switching between Liberated and CM roms trying to solve my problem. I'm experiencing trouble with mainly GPS apps or any apps that require downloading to SD. I've switched between CoPilot and Sygic because of this. GPS apps once installed and set up (added favourites, edited settings, etc), keep reverting back to its initial state when you first install it (where it asks to activate, etc) and apps that download keep downloading those files over and over again even if it says its completed. Any idea what could be causing this problem? It's quite annoying especially with GPS apps not saving my favourites.
I was having the same problems until I realized its because I was moving the apps to SD. Try moving them back to the phone. It worked for me. This doesnt happen with all my apps, but the ones it did happen to I moved back to the phone and all these problems went away.
I'm not too sure if I can do that (or know how to). I havn't touched moving apps yet. and my SD card doesn't have ext2/3 for a2sd to be activated. =\

Mediaserver is just a generic category. You need to find out what app is using mediaserver. It's, as you might imagine, probably a media app e.g. audio or video player. An app like GSAM would help you track that down.
There is also an app that kills mediaserver every x hours. But it would be more effective to find the actual app that is the root cause.
.
Had the same problem. Happened to be some youtube-downloaded videos that I had recently downloaded and were somehow corrupted. Renamed then to .old and mediaserver disappeared right away. I've heard it also happens with big m3u or playlist files.
Hope this helps.
I just had this problem for 2 days. Media server is sipping the phone's battery at 45%. First, I tried turning off the phone and restart but it didn't solve the problem. But just this morning, when I was not connected to wifi, the media server disappeared. Then when I reconnected, it was completely gone (well, for now). That's just my observation. I have microsd with lots of data and media but I did not delete any of them. It like it went away on its own. :/
If you have an external SD card it's easy to reproduce the problem, just mount / unmount and you will see it starting / stopping. With internal you can backup the whole card and start deleting folders till it stops. It is cause of a faulty file, you just have to find it
I had the same problem, 45% battery used by media server on galaxy s5 stock rom. I solved problem by finding corupted file on micro sd card. I had 5 GB on micro sd. I have created folder name "backup" on internal storage. Then I select all files on sd and moved it to internal memory in "backup" folder. It took some time. At the end is says that it can't move two files. All other files were moved. Those to files were corrupted. The files which remains on sd card were videos taken with phone and when you tried to watch them they were freezing. I have format micro sd and at the end move everything back from backup folder to sd. Problem solved.

Apps icons dissappear from home screen

Hey all! I purchased a Moto g5 plus and upgrading from G2 to G5 is something beyond imagination I have to admit....
Today I came up with the following problem :
I inserted a Samsung Evo+ 32GB MicroSD and formatted it as Internal storage.
4 specific applications' shortcuts (Beat, Quizdom, Trials Frontier and CamScanner) disappear from the home screen everytime I reboot the phone.
I had to move these apps in the device's storage and the problem stopped, but this is not the solution I am looking for.
Has anyone come across this problem?
Quick update: Today Facebook and Messenger disappeared from home screen after a reboot. The problem occurs with apps installed on the sd. When I move them to the phone's storage, everything works fine. I guess we need an update from Lenovo then?
I have the same problem too - did you guys ever find a fix?
I solved it by moving disappearing apps installed on the SD to internal memory. If you use an SD as well, try moving the apps the way I described above.
I've had this problem on my previous phone, with Lineage OS. It's a common bug, sdcards formatted as internal storage often cause trouble, especially if they arent HC. It's a system-level bug that plagues all oems, no simple fix for this.
I have read that having a class 10 or higher Samsung or SanDisk card seems to help, not always though.
