FM Radio App - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hey, I just recently got my LG V20 brand new. I noticed this phone has a support for FM Radio. My Model is an US996 unlocked, but did not come with a FM radio APP. Any suggestions on how I can get that? I do not wish to root or install custom ROM at this point. I still have my 1 year warranty in tact.
Also, I do not want to download FM Radio from Playstore. i want the LG built in FM Radio App. Where can I get a working FM radio APk for LGV20?
Please suggest, and thank you.

you can try next radio either from play store or download the apk from google

It's not listed in settings/apps

Down load the zip extract the fm apk.. Try installing. If it don't install you need to resign it using apk editor on the market.

Thanks, i got to installed, but when I click the power button. It doesn't turn on. The power button only stays red. Guess my option is too install a custom firmware, but I do not want to do that yet.

Same here. I was able to get the resigned app installed but the radio will not turn on. The button remains yellow in my case.

Lol this may seem a bit obvious, or then again maybe not... But have you plugged in your headphones before attempting to play the FM radio? That's the only way you can achieve a signal, as it uses the headphones as an antenna source.

Yes, wired headphones were plugged in. The power button has no effect. Just to be sure I am not on a wild goose chase, I have a US996 unlocked, bootloader unlocked and rooted, running a stock ROM. I am on VzW and have not heard that they even would activate the fm radio. Shall I throw in the towel?

I have a GSM unlocked LGv20 Us996. I tried 2 different pair of headphones and the power button doesnt turn on the radio.

As far as I'm aware, one of the common known bugs/issue persisting with rooting the V20 of most variants, is a non-functional FM radio. Chances are you may be out of luck there my friend. Unless you've tried a third party FM app. My last suggestion would just be to use a digital radio app, although that doesn't help much if you travel in and out of cellular zones often.

Yeah, I get it. I just use the NEXT FM Radio app . This does the job while I am at work on wifi. But having it on data will just eat my data. I will see if there are more options.
Thanks for helping.

[Q] radio FM ?

Where is the FM radio in the X5? . In the description of the phone it is listed. Unfortunately I can not find anywhere this application.
Hardware supports fm radio, but there is no software to use it... Its a disinfomation...
porting FM?
I tried to upload an FM radio with HTC and Motorola, but unfortunately when I start the program is stopped. Maybe there is someone who will try to match any of the available online programs to support FM radio?
i hope someone can do it for us.after all the hardware support it.
the unlucky news is that huawei said they will not do it,so we must rely on the other people, like some people here.
FM files
The system files, I found the files to the FM radio, it seems that only lacks a program that would be handled.
Are someone working on getting the FM radio to work? I would really appreciate if someone made it possible!
Registering ALOT of interest in a FM radio
Tried few fm radio apps on cm6.1 alpha4, few from miui rom and one called spirit fm radio. Neither does work. Spirit fm puts out errors on logcat. Miui one dont put out so many errors, but it says that audio is routed to hdmi and mute is on.
But maybe there is hope
fm
I installed it FMRadio. Although radio is not working but the program is not interrupted (FC). When you receive the "FM working ...." select button "back". the menu works. Radio comes with ROM DroidX. This is the only program FMRadio that I managed to install. It is worth to work on it.

My dreams are coming true, i hope the community gets behind this!
I have not had proper FM for years.
I've installed the FMRadio.apk but when I launch it, it sits on "FM Radio is being launched, please wait..."
If i go 'Back' i can access the menu, select a frequency and even set a preset, but it doesn't play.
According to Huawei Norway the x5 does not have the hardware to support fm radio.
The phone seems to have FM radio (the kernel initializes the chip and sets audio routes for fm), but those apps from Moto/HTC etc phones are designed for either for TI or Broadcom chips so won't work. There's also the possibility that the chip antenna isn't connected to the headphone jack so even if everything else is there you won't be able to get reception.
I did a bit of searching and there is a Qualcomm FM radio app.. might be an idea for someone to build this and see what it can do (probably it won't work, but you never know).
https://www.codeaurora.org/gitweb/quic/la/?p=platform/packages/apps/FM.git;a=tree
chould some work it out? i wilk wait!
Is anyone still still looking into this?
This is the one feature that the x5 is missing that would make it a killer phone for the price point.
No news with Radio?

I downloaded and installed PacMan rom. So far I like it, but I am missing the FM radio app. I got the app from sense rom, but will not install. I am new to rooting and flashing, so please explain to me how can I get my FM radio work. Thanks

Thanks. I am going to miss my radio. I took of the PacMan and installed the CM10 4.2.1. Works fine. I had to update the Google Search as was FC any time I try to use the mic. Works fine now. So far, it is the best JB rom on my glacier. I hope that someone will found a way to install that radio app.

Thanks for the info on FM Radio app. But unfortunately, there is no trial version available. Can someone confirm if it actually works?

[Q] Development status for FM support.

Dear friends,
I had read in some threads about the existence of the BCM4329 inside the HD2, that it makes FM receiver AND TRANSMITTER options possible.
So, I was wondering about the chance of having FM transmissions possible, if things had progressed with the years (those news are from 2010, still focused on WM6.5), also thanks to the existence of very updated versions of Android, although it seems to me that nowadays an FM API is still not available to us.
Thank you.
What are you talking about? Where did you search for this? As a Google search you are Fired!
Just instal Spirit FM and you are ready to use FM Radio on your magnificent HD2. Plug the Headphones which are needed as antenna. Also the Radio will turn on Bluetooth because the chip to run FM radio is implemented into it.
Have Fun.

What is your point? I got HTC HD2 and I use Spirit and everything working fine. Where is your problem? Maybe you have the wrong Rom installed. I know someone complain with some rom but the hardware it's the same.
BTW, what FW trasmissions for?

Unfortunately, there hasn't been much progress on that field (as a matter of fact, there hasn't been any progress at all). If you read the replies in that thread, they couldn't make it work. The furthest the could get is to confirm that the HD2 indeed does have the chip.

He isn't talking about the radio receiver, he's talking about a radio transmitter. E.g. You run a special app, ask the app to transmit a song using radio. And then you can listen to that song, say, in a car using the radio. No wires/bluetooth connection needed. Simply tune in and listen. I really wished they did it.. what a pity.

Yeah, I figure out this at the end, my bad.
It will be a good option but the radio receiver will have to tune to a specific frequency and this part I think will be the issue here. In terms of words so simply but unconventional.
I think they don't do that for a national security.

[INFO only] FM Radio improvement

If you use the Sony stock FM Radio, as good as it is, Sony missed a setting when porting their Radio3.apk from the Z/ZL Qualcomm FM chip and driver to the Z2's Broadcom chip and driver.
If you live in an area with moderate signals, you will notice that although the stereo image is very wide, it doesn't get narrowed by the Broadcom chip or API as the signal strength varies. This results in a noticeable increase in background noise (hiss). Sony forgot to enable Stereo Blend....
The link below allows you to use an FM Radio app that correctly blends the stereo image automatically,
I use FM Radio a lot - this is a vast improvement.
Once you have installed the app, it will run correctly at default. If you are rooted DENY SU permission.
Note that there are some UX bugs to work out at the moment...but it works well. This is only a test release.

Remember to support dedicated developers like Mike if you like their work. Spirit FM is available via G Play. If you like the test release, buy the app.
Thanks for the post. Audio sounds great from this app. I have a weird bug with my phone though and the FM Radio. In both this app and the built in FM app, it will only play audio (through headset or speakerphone) when the screen is off. Is it supposed to be this way? Anybody else have this or know why it might be doing this? Updated to latest .314 update in Canada on an unlocked Z2.

Yeah, it didn't do it the first time I tried using the FM radio after getting the phone but recently it does. I wonder if a factory reset might fix it, I just don't feel like setting up my phone again!!
Check Google Now settings and check activate from lock screen.

Thanks! Also found this after re-googling it today. Somebody also posted this solution on the Xperia Support forums. Guess it's the always listening "OK Google" that was messing with the FM Radio. Strange but at least I know what the issue is now! Wonder if this will be fixed with future updates to either the Google Search app or the FM Radio app?

T-mo version has FM radio active and working

FYI for those who care, despite what most reviews I read said, my T-mo S8 FM radio works fine: just download next radio from Google, plug in headphones for antenna and you all set.

Hey Thanks for that find! What a pleasant surprise to find that a FM radio tuner is included in my Galaxy S8! I just installed that "next radio" app and receiving all my local FM radio stations here in NYC area using the AKG supplied earphone cord plugged in as the antenna. The tuner even seems to be really sensitive picking up the signals really well.
What a nice bonus to have built into this T-Mobile S8 phone. I would suspect that all the other S8 variants have the radio built in also...?
AT&T here and works like a charm.
Most excellent! Kudos
If its in a tmobile phone isnt it in all of them?? seems really really odd if samsung made a phone specifically just for tmobile with different hardware in it

great, so if i have sim free then i have fm radio!! didnt even know it had one, didnt see it in any of the specs!!
I can't see next radio on the play store though. i googled it on my pc and play store said it was not compatible with any of my devices, and refused to install. im using S8+ sim free G955F! I guess exynos doesn't have the fm receiver
I saw at least one review where it said no FM radio. Now, as far as I know all Qualcom Snapdragons have radio build in, but often they're disabled. I do not know if Exynos have it? Being on 9/11 in Manhattan and during znd after Hurricane Sandy on Long Island, having FM radio in your phone could be more than just convenience, especially that I do not have battery operated radio anymore except in a car and now in the phone.
Verizon here. FM radio is working
Anyway to get this working with bluetooth headset ?
You need wired headset to act as antenna. You could get old headphones, cut them off and try using shorter wire alone as antenna, but I do not know if you can reroute sound from headphones to speakers or BT. I used to have old phone that had a switch in menu, where sound could bypass headphones and go to speaker or BT even with headphones plugged in, but don't think S8 has this capability and it would have to be hacked somehow.

It works because carrier specific S8's are actually the same model but have different software on then.

I was surprised. Verizon stepped up. The carriers must have made a deal with NextRadio to get a commission when you buy a song.
Actually I think this time it was Samsung who put the foot down and told carriers how they wanted to sell their phones through them. This is why you don't have any carrier branding either
I hate how carriers can dictate their own stupid model hardware. They should all have the same hardware regardless of which carrier you have but have different software. I still hate all the carrier bloatware though.
If you flash factory binary there is an app that lets you listen without headphones, I've been trying to think of a way to get that to install on stock or get the ability to launch it since it seems to be already installed on stock. Doubt it can be done without root, but maybe someone can figure it out?
What is the name of the app?
Just says fm radio, you can just Google Samsung fm radio all the ones I try says that it conflicts with a package of the same name on stock, probably need to wait for root if it ever happens to make it work
Ddan
It's working on my S7 edge as well not only the S8. I flashed factory binary on my S8 plus and did a backup of the fm radio app and transferred to my s7 edge and guess what? Working perfectly without any problem. Thanks samsung for snapdragon chipset.

A wired headphones should be plugged in for the FM chip to work because it acts as an antenna.
