Phone doesn´t start anymore - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Hey there,
after flashing a created boot.img I think my phone is bricked
Cannot start it anymore / no bootloader / no hardreset.
Evertime I connect it to my PC first the red LED flashes and get stuck at a green LED.
Flashtool shows "no Device" and no adb connection is working.
What did I wrong?
Is my phone bricked?
Kind regards,
Chris

I don't think flashing boot img would hard brick. Have you tried connecting while pressing volume up and volume down? I have had situations with my old Xa where a bad flash zapped the battery to zero, and I wouldn't get any response plugging in the charger, etc, but I would try it with different cables and try holdings buttons while plugging, and it suddenly resurrected and started charging, (happened twice when Xposed N unofficial was first released)...

hmm, I tried to connect in many ways, but nothing happens.
If I connect it to my charger, the red light flickers (red light to red dark to red light...)
or
it flickers from off to red to off to red...
Charging in this state over night takes no effect.

Hey Guys,
now I found the mistake i´ve done.
I swapped the file.
Taken the wrong TA.img from my other phone.
Is there a way to get the phone back to life?

What, with dd command? Did you try to do it again with correct ta, or use adb to wipe?
Flashier wrong ta could be a big deal... I know with Z phones it was for sure a hard brick, but maybe there's hope.
Do you get the same error with Emma / Sony Companion?

Yes, dd-command.
I´m searching for my right Xc - TA.img file, but I cannot find it anymore.
adb-wipe didnt tried.
In worst case, I overwritten it by the old Z3 phones TA.
EMMA told me that the device could not be identified.
I think, that there´s no other way to get a new phone ;-(

X10's bricked so far...

Just wanting to start a count of how many X10's die from this rooting frenzy. Mine survives so 0 so far....
Pointless post!
Would be hard to brick with this root process unless you stupidly close cmd window or pull power/usb out while its doing its thing
I accidentally pulled the usb cable during step one, it gave me that exclamation mark when I tried turning it on, so I started over, and root worked fine, so afaik, its impossible to brick lol

There's a lot of people here (myself included) who have little to no experience with Android. So this thread might be a good idea to have to serve as a caution to less experienced users on the missteps of others.
Just my two cents...
You can't brick it with this type of root

Now that sounds like a challenge
I've bricked mine at least 4 times doing stupid things and not following instructions. But the flash tool or PC companion fixed it.
Bottom line: FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS and search for an answer if you hit a wall.

When you brick it, it becomes a brick. It's not recoverable any more and it's a paper weight. You can't really brick it more than once unless you have 4 x10's.
You can goof it up and it's easily fixed, as you mentioned by following the directions closely
I don't think it possible to brick the X10
bootloader is still there in case something turn wrong
someone to please confirm if what I'm saying is true or false

it's not a brick if you can fix it..
I think the only way you could "brick" it is if you rip out the battery while flashing the bootloader. Then you're screwed.
is my unbrickable? wait for solution...
In my case, I couldnt manage to update my X10i to flash OS or anything.
Actually, my Phone was "Bricked" while when I was updated by SEUS, the processing was stucked at about 25%, and it prompt "...lost connection...error occur..." then, i restart phone, only red led blinks every 2-3 sec. I realize it perhaps problem with battery, then i charge the battery overnight, and it was full charged. Now, when i turn it on, it shows green blink and a little vibration... and that is it, no any sign of booting...after try tens of time repairing, reinstalling through the SEUS and PC Comp. None of them worked...
I found your tools and guide on google, then download everything that needed for flash tool, I have latest JRE, PCC, SEUS installed, some stock ROM, Custom ROM.. downloaded. Also i did try to flash ROM of Ver. 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3. None got through the whole process, it all got stucked right after FLASHING LOADER...here is my log.

I saw some video on youtube, they only use 4-5min to flash a new OS, but in my case it took my 5mins to flash a loader.sin (<10k.) it must be something wrong with my PC's config or Handset's hardware??? Could you give a hand on this, try to figure out what is causes for my X10i? I was totally pissed off these days. Using backup phone for a week, and lost all the contacts info on my phone...
IMHO, I don't think it is possible to actually brick the phone... Not yet anyways.
I have a feeling that the main boot process is governed by the bootloader itself (no bootloader - no boot) . When that gets cracked/released I think we will start to see actual brick's at that point. Until then I don't think it is possible.

Interesting... From what I can tell it flashed the bootloader just fine (according to the log it only took just over a minute), but the kernel is failing to upload to the phone.
I'm not sure what would cause that. bad USB cable/connection? If possible try flashing it from a different computer to see if there is a difference.

Had this issue once, I think it was a power issue, pull the battery, hold the back button with the USB cable already plugged in put the battery back in.
Think that was the only problem.

Xperia X10i Flash Mode

Hi guys,,, just bought myself a X10i to play with,,, figured I,ve flash the thing with a rom from the developers forum,
This is where I came unstuck,,,, cant for the life of me get it into flash mode.
Instructions were as follows
1 With fone OFF. Hold down back button and insert usb cable, green light comes on and hit enter. What bloody enter, on the fone or on your keyboard. I,ve tried both, fone just keeps on booting into the main screen, nothing even resembles a flash mode screen. Tried this untill my thumb nearly bled.
Someone help please.
Read the tuts in the dev forum. P.S. no custom roms yet but there is root.

Try hold down "back button" without battery then insert USB cable and then insert battery.
When it says to hit enter, that is to continue from the screen (on the PC) that says "press any key to continue" when you are doing the steps for rooting. If you don't have that window ready the phone will only stay in flash mode for about 5 seconds and then it will continue to boot. So, just make sure you are ready with the PC before entering flash mode.

also it might help to disable any antivirus (worked for me)

Hi,
I know this post is pretty old, but still I'm struglig the second day now to get into flash mode and still no luck despite trying every method there is on the web.
I've got Xperia X10i mini pro, reinstalled standard ROM with PC companion just to make sure it's nothing with the software or any modifications I made to it.
I'm guiding myself with instruction given here:
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Mini_Pro:_Full_Update_Guide
in order to get my bootloader unlocked
what I've done so far:
-installed Android SDK incl. SDK Tools, SDK Platform-tools, Google USB driver package. Not installed any API from SDK.
-put android_winusb.inf (18 KB size) in C:\android-sdk-windows\extras\google\usb_driver
-in general- everyting given here: wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Install_the_Android_SDK#Windows
command
Code:
adb devices
rerurns
Code:
List of devices attached
43423531315537465737 device
in my opinion meaning it works as it should.
So I turn the phone off, unplug the cable both from computer and the phone, take the abttery out, plug both end of USB cable where these should be, hold the Back button (tried with Volume up too) and put the battery in.
The result is it only goes into flash mode for several seconds (confirmed by SuperOneClisk log) and then goes into charging mode. nothing gets displayed on the screen. Only when PC Companion is on it detects it, than looses it and pops up with a window on how to properly connect the device... :/
So can someone please tell me what I do wrong?
Why it doesn't stay in flash mode?
PS. when I enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu, after pressing the last * the numbers just disappear and nothing happens...
Pls help
Edit:
I somehow got around that with s1tool and Flashtool. But eventually I could not go along the way given at cyanogenmod.com and unlocked with the help of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225

[SOLVED] Xperia Arc bricked?! HELP!

hey fellas...
....as the title says, i'm afraid i might have bricked my device!
what happened: assumingly, the battery was too low to perform a firmware flash via flashtool 0.2.9.1 - despite that, i tried it. the result was an abort of the process (error flashing, process aborted)....
....the situation now is that the device won't even boot anymore, it just shortly vibrates, that's it! (i've tried to reflash the uk 184 firmare several times, all resulting in process aborted....windows vista, 64 bit)...it does not matter if i use flashtool 0.2.9.1 or 0.2.9....
what was done to the device before: a successful flash of the uk 184 firmware, a successful unlock of the bootloader (done on a computer running winxp, 32bit)....
...it'd be great if anyone of you guys had some advice, any help is greatly appreciated!
regards,
paddy
EDIT: reflashed generic uk 184 on a windows xp (32bit) computer, everything went smoothly and the deivce is running again! thank you everybody that tried to help!!!!
So you battery is charged? What happens when you plug it in? Does the battery charging icon shows up?
no, nothing shows up....only the battery led keeps blinking, which is kind of strange
Leave it for a few hours and see if it charges. Its possible your battery wont charge, this was a problem with motorola defys and there is a mcgyver workaround but I would say only attempt it if your sure it will fix it and done mind blowing up your phone if it goes wrong. So basically only as a very last resort
have you tries SEUS?
thanks for replies so far....nope, i haven't tried seus yet, i'll do that right now.....despite that, i did try pc companion to "repair" the phone, which actually resulted in pcc telling me it is not able to do anything since the phone is running a modified firmware
edit: seus won't workt either, "firmware is not supported"
Try turning off holding the menu and back button starting up seus with the usb already plugged in. When detects phone let go of menu button but keep the back button held until it says let go is the boot loader unlocked. I believe its impossible to brick if its not

if possible get the battery charged from some other device or external charger...
and then try flashing via flashtool again..
this is weird....just tried it on a win7 computer, doesn't work either, flashing gets aborted immediately...even stranger is the fact that i've just let the device chrage for 45 minutes, still, the led just blinks in flashmode color, won't turn on at all and just shortly vibrates....fastboot recognizes the device though

i dont know if fastboot can flash system.img / boot.img even at low battery...
still i would recommend u try to get the battery charged externally then try normal flashing via flashtool...
so you'd say it's probably the battery causing the problems? mh, okay, i'll see if i can find a way to charge it externally....hopefully the brick is reversible

well the answer lies within this thread.
how do you brick a phone
well, there are many ways you can brick a phone.1. you install the wrong software
2.you install a 'broken' rom
3. you install a recovery that isnt supported for our phone
4.or you were messing with your bootloader
etc etc... you get the point
how to rescue a bricked x81st: If you have done a soft brick then you can boot into xrecovery and restore your latest backup. easy
2:if restoring doesn'twork or you have a hard brick then you should either launch:SEUS (sony ericsson update service) or pc companion. click update and follow the steps.
3:if none of that works then you will have to send it off to se. if you dont get some kind of phone company to fix it then its as useless as a real brick lol or a replica of a phone.
3:you can use a flashtool to fix it as well. if you open flashtool you usally get a number of options such as unlock bootloader etc. there should be an option where you can restore it. (lol i think)
Cheersi hope it helped. if it did then please do press the thanks button.

Soft Brick is the common brick we get.
Hard Brick is a brick you can only get with messing with the bootloader. There's no complete brick.
Say something about flashtool too.

On the W/X8 and X10 mini/Pro you can get into FLASH MODE by keeping the back button pressed while connecting the TURNED OFF phone by USB.
That being said, you have a NEO which doesn't work that way.
Your phone has "fastboot" - to get there ... turn off the phone, keep the bottom right key pressed and connect the USB cable to the PC.
What you have to do from there on out is either best asked in the RIGHT subforum or through Google research.

Hummm...?
I only replied to benga_mircea's post from today.
Or ... did I miss something? *notsure*
Thank you for your help, but I can't acces flash mode or fastboot mode again, lika I use to, after I connect the batery, push the back button, insert the usb, a few seconds and the "sony ericsson" screen pops up again and stays blocked. I think I've killed my phone
Well, for as long as you see the SONY ERICSSON boot logo - and I'm assuming from the way the X8 works here - the boot loader and kernel are intact; there's just a problem boot-strapping the system ROM (shot system, bad flash).
The real problem is that Fastboot isn't comparable to the Flash Mode of our phones ... it's very different.
In your stead I would try to find out how you can perform a "disaster restore" (like we do with our W/X8 through Flash Mode and Flashtool) by flashing back to stock.
Anyway ... just to repeat it ...
1. You need to TURN OFF your phone and DISCONNECT it from the computer/charger.
2. You insert the USB connector into JUST your phone.
3. You press the bottom/right button (also "Back"?) and keep it pressed while you connect the USB to the computer.
Once the phone connected to the computer as a (wild guess!) "Flash Device" or "Fastboot Device" you need the apropriate tool(s) and Stock ROM image - in case PC Companion refuses to repair your phone.

Any chance this thread (in the Xperia Neo General section) could be of any help to you?

Thanks! I tried like 50 times, and nothing, the ennoing "sony ericsson" is booting (no sony ericsson logo as usualy, just the writing) I flashed 10 times in the past whith no problem. Now, even when I put it to charge ( wall charge) the phone is turning on showing that stupid "sony ericsson" writting, I cant shut it down from the on\off button. Before killling it, I've instales stock MT15i_4.0.A.2.368_GLOBAL ROM, then I upgraded to MT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Global, then rooted with DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su, Installed CWM( wiped cache, updated SE tweaked v8.5 Rom) After the restart, the "se" writting started booting. I've pulled out the batery, and begined flashing it with flash tool(no green led). The flashing started and my little brother accidentaly pulled out the Usb cable; that's the whole story! I've tried like 100 times with wotan, flash tool and FlashTool_0.2.9.1_FOTAUnbrick, no result, even if pc companion tells me "phone conected" and gives me further instructions whith the phone being dead, and the flash tool showing me to connect de device... Thank you for all the help, hope there is a solution. sorry for the long post and my bad english...

Whoa... that's what I call a "security vulnerability".
If the flash process got interrupted because your lil bro pulled the USB cable I'm somewhat certain the NAND is messed up pretty good - no wonder you're stuck at the SE boot logo.
If there's no way by which you can get the device back to normal (read: even the guys over in the Neo sub-board are out of ideas/help) I think your best shot would be to send it in to SE for repair if you still got warranty. SE should have other means to resurrect the device and slap it back into shape.
I'm sorry I can't really help you here with this - the Neo is different from the X8 and also different from the way my tablets work.
Thank's for the advice! My waranty is lost, i've unlocked the bootloader. Only if I could enter in flash mode!

Well, on my Samsung, which has Fastboot, I first enter Fastboot and from there I put the device into download mode for flashing (in theory you can compare "Download mode" to the "Flash mode" - in Flash mode the W/X8 awaits a ROM image to be flashed into the NAND, pretty much the same as "Download mode" works).
Since your Neo isn't completely dead (you just have a shot system due to the flash interruption) you only need to find a way how you can re-write the system.
I lack the time to research how the Neo works, but I think there should be a way to get the device going as you can even "resurrect" a W/X8 where you formatted the system partition (by mistake in CWM, for example). However, that's not as bad as interrupting the USB connection but about the same "ooops" to blank the system.
Flash mode not working, fastboot not workingI Tried a lot of programs (wotan, flash tool, fota unbrick tool, octopus, omnius for se, pc companion, se update. Non of them manages to connect to my phone. If only I could connect for 1 sec. I have a backup of TA, but I can flash it. Thanks anyway!

0.-google the ftf file for your device or use flashtool>xperifirmware built in to download it
1.- turn off your phone (or keep it off in your case)
2.-install xperia companion to have the latest drivers and reboot your pc
3.-run flashtool by androxide ver 0.9.25

well, you can see this like an oportunity to (with a little effort) buy some android one device to get years of google's support. right now there's a lots of devices within the android one program and for any type of budget.

I've got almost the same symptoms with the same phone.
It didn't boot while disconnected from a charger.
Being connected to the charger, it tried to boot and almost immediately failed. It also blinked 3 times with red on every my attempt to turn it on.
I've remembered about battery and background surface replacement, that had happened before.
Verifying the background surface i found out, that it's not sealed tightly to the phone body. Inspecing internals i've disconnected and tightly connected the battery.
Also, i've firmly installed the background phone body surface and heated it for better coupling.
As a result, i was able to charge and boot the phone after this procedure.
P.S.
From my point of view, you need to disassemble the background phone body surface and re-connect the battery wire to the phone internal socket.
