Hey, I'm running the official Oreo build and I keep having this problem of the AoD randomly turning off completely and refusing to reactivate until I reboot the phone. Sometimes it will come back as randomly as it disappeared, but I can't really recognize a pattern since it always bugs me enough so I just manually reboot. Any solution or at least explanation?

Do you have a screen protector over the proximity sensor?
That has caused issues on devices in the past as recognizing it instead of through it

Not using a screen protector or obstructive case.

My nexus 7 has been randomly rebooting a lot lately. I have no idea why. I haven't even rooted or unlocked the bootloader or anything on this. I haven't installed any new apps for like a month probably so I don't think it's an app.
Also, my screen wakes up on it's own quite frequently. See the attached screenshot. Notice how often the screen is on, there's like a million lines for it turning on and off. And this is while I'm asleep and not doing anything with it.
I can't think of any app that causes this because I haven't installed any apps in forever. Not a root or unlock issue because I haven't done either. I have a case with a magnet in it to turn the screen on and off. I don't think it's that because I took it out of the case and I still saw it happen.
Any ideas on what is causing this?
I had one too hope its only 1 and screen wake maybe caused by some application you have installed, try reinstalling rom and without installing anything you will notice no screen wake
So I have been having this random issue and I have no idea what the cause is. It seems to be random, but I'll have my phone locked, whether it be done automatically or if I do it manually, and anywhere between 30s to 2mins the backlight will randomly turn on, causing my phone to lose battery life. Sometimes it stays on for a minute or so, and only twice has it stayed on for hours to the point where the phone was pretty hot, was at work and didn't know til 3 hours later at break.
I do have the phone rooted and flashed with PACman 19.3 with Gapps 12-10-12 with the inverted gapps as well. This has been happening at random and was hoping someone might know what might be causing this.
My guess is your sensor is broken.

Guys, my nexus 6p suddenly started a strange locking behaviour every time it shaked, any clue why this happend and how to disable this locking behaviour? Also the finger print doesn't unlock my phone, and it shows the pattern unlock screen afterward.

There is no stock function to do that.
Are you rooted or are you running a ROM/Xposed ?
Maybe it's also a contact issue with the power button so as it's maybe broken, it emits a signal once shaken?
But the fingerprint issue was common with people who rooted 6.0.0.

Have you tried resetting the fingerprint sensor? I mean, remove the current lock method and fingerprints, and reset them.

Weird then. You can try a factory reset maybe? But do make sure that you have a backup of your internal storage, and everything else that you feel necessary. This will give us a clue, whether or not this is a software, or a hardware issue.
I sort that every time I plug my power bank to the phone the problem pop-up, very weird!
Happened three times today that from the state of sleep phone's screen couldn't be turned on. At last i had to force reboot the phone to make it work. is anyone else facing the same?
No. Doing totally fine with mine. Maybe you have some installed app that is freezing your phone
I have the same problem, happened 3 times so far in the past week. Did you find cause for this?
i am also facing this issue from yesterday, suddenly screen becomes full black and refuse to wake, after restarting also problem persists, sometimes screen remains on but didnt responses to touches, also turned off ambient display and also calibrated proximity and light censor but no luck
i m using black color made in china. purchased on day 1 from offline market (Vijay sales)

Sounds like exactly the same as my problem. I might have found "fix" for this. There seems to be a bug or something in ambient display setting. After I deactivated (few days ago) it from screen settings I haven't had problems.
I also had this problem and it usually happens when im using ambient display. Turning ambient display off now ang testing it. Hopefully an update fixes this.
i faced similar issue.. two times.. and i feel that it was due to ambient display..
I guess it happens when the ambient display is live, and quickly you try to unlock using fingerprint.
Though i didnt disable the ambient display yet, i just add delay if i need to unlock when ambient display goes live .
But if it bugs me still, ill try switching off ambient display..

I am having this similar issue here. Phone getting freeze some times. And even after restarting if i try to open any app quickly it will freeze again. I didnt have this sort of issue before for my moto g3.
Screen scrolling freezes some times.
Got the November update, but still facing the same issue any idea how to fix this? Is it a hardware fault? Coz all devices ain't facing this issue

That doesn't help at all, I performed "calibration" - which is in fact just test of proximity sensor and 10 minutes later my screen froze. The only workaround was to disable Ambient display. However it has been fixed in the November update, I'm using Ambient display without any issues now.
I have turned on my ambient display after the Nov update and so far so good. Has been a week since and no black screen.

OK, I did both activities at about the same time (calibration and update) and it works fine now - no freeze with "ambient" turned on.
So correct, I cannot say which action helped I am just glad it works
It seems my phone has a problem of ghost touch. The status bar slides down automatically and randomly. I turned on developer mode to see what happened, it seems, some coordinates near (320, 0) are clicked very often with no reason at all. It annoys me a lot since it interrupts my normal operation. Did someone has the same problem? And how do you solve it? Thanks
I had the same issue. top right of my screen would think it was being touch when it wasnt.
Yes, my wife's ph-1 has this issue. the ghost touches liked a bunch of Instagram posts, it was hilarious seeing my wife's reaction to this, and then she had to go back and unlike a bunch of crap posts.
But this is an issue and very serious one. I believe this could be also causing battery drain if it interacts with OS and causes deep sleep not to kick in when it should. If the issue happens again I will be contacting support to get this BS sorted out.
I have this issue on the oreo beta although it will keep touching the same spot continuously for about a minute or so and if it happens while the phones locked i cant do anything till it stops luckily its been happening less and less often
I had this happen on one phone but not the others, worse when the phone got hot
i think it's the screen, if you look closely, its not flat. Mine is kinda wavey at the edges, like there's a little too much adhesive, and i think that waviness gets worse when the phone gets hot, and causes the phantom touch

It was gone for 3 days and now the problem is back today. I tried to restart in safe mode and problem is still there so it is a system issue, not caused by third party app.
Same issue here. No rhyme or reason I can see as to why
Mine was happening on my old PH-1 without the earpiece screen, but i got the new version i got has no issue.
This issue is very annoying I'm thinking of returning the device to Sprint and getting another but since it happens so random I wouldn't even be able to show them the issue. Thought it was an issue with the oreo beta but after going back to stock I still have the issue starting to regret buying this phone
I've never experienced this issue on mine
Bump. Been happening to me on Oreo beta. About once or twice a day it happens. I just lock and unlock the phone and it stops. It's weird. I think it has something to do with the screen sensitivity. It's more prone to happening when the device screen is all smudgy or if I just washed my hands.
I have the same issue too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbHtJLQEU7o
Me too
Same issue here as well. I did the touch sensitivity trick as well and still getting it. Hope its a software issue and not a hardware one.
I haven't encountered ghost touch but encountered slow responding touch issue. Sometimes the touchscreen will respond to my command slower like 3-4 secs after i touch the screen. Every time this issue appears, a restart of my phone will clear it. Very likely software issue. I'm still on nougat, hopefully they fix it on Oreo before it goes out of beta.
My first PH-1 would become touch unresponsive for 30+ seconds all the time (it was fully updated at the time). It seemed to happen more frequently when I was typing on the stock keyboard. I eventually returned it and bought another several weeks later. I've had no issues with the new one-quite happy with it. I'm running the Beta2 update and enjoying it.

That's good to know. Mine also happened when using the keyboard occasionally as well. I have a replacement set coming as my original set's packaging did not come with the pull tab on the box and there was a fingerprint smudge at the back of the phone when i took the phone out of the box the first time. I presumed mine was a used/returned set, not new as what i had ordered. Hope the new set fixes the issue.
My phone has the same issue whenever I'm charging it and using it at the same time it's registering multiple touches when I'm using just one finger on the screen, it mostly happen when I'm doing a long press action. In developers option I have show taps enable so I'm able to see all ghost touches.
I fixed my ghost touch issue with a simple hard reset.
It will come back sadly
