Need a dump of Sprint ZVC firmware - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I need someone that has an LS997 on ZVC to dump it. Grab the patched LG UP, and use the DUMP option.
I mainly need the laf partition so I can decompile lafd and find out what the heck Sprint has done to it...
This will help towards getting the LS997 root.

Tell me how and I'll do it.

Download the patched LG UP from this thread and install it.
When you run it, you will have some extra options, one of them will be DUMP. Click that radio button and click start. You will be prompted for the partitions you want to dump. Select all, and then uncheck userdata.
Once that is done, you will have a bunch of files named like laf_COMX aboot_COMX etc. where X is the COM port number that LG UP is using. For now, I just need laf, so zip / rar / 7zip / etc the laf_COMX file and post / PM me the link.

Watching with all fingers and toes crossed. I had a rooted ls997 that was awesome. The charge port literally went up in smoke. Melted the plastic and all. Had to send it in to lg for repair. Got it back with a new mainboard and the same melted plastic around the charge port. No root stinks. ??

Brian,
Here's the laf partition

ps let me know if I compressed it into a zip correctly..

Can't wait..

Any progress yet runningnak3d

I can't see anything significantly different between the LS997 lafd and the H910 lafd. I even went so far as to flash it, and it works as expected. I am not sure why @Swordknight27 is getting the "Hello this is LAF" message.
Until I can get his phone to respond to a simple partition listing, opcodes like ERSE won't work since they need to know the offset.

Do you need a dll with a KDZ? I thought the DLL was only needed for the .TOT files?

ah, Yeah I think KDZ's you use the LGUP tool which is descriped in another thread They don't appear to need a dll for the kdz. So I believe the dll is TOT only. I could be wrong as i'm not an expert on it, but I believe that's that process.
Has anyone successfully reflash there VS995 with this KDz yet?
Im not even trying to Root my 2nd Unit until I have all GOOD
Well I managed to Get LGUP running & it picked up my phone im still Stock no Root & it fail'd at 9% for tho those's who need to know, Maybe try flashing it more then once. I also ran into a problem with LGUP not finding my device so i had to copy & paste the common folder elsewhere
Yeah I ran into the same problem. 0x2000 error. CEFS:Initalize(). Terrible!
*edit*
Ran the uppercut method (link)and was able to flash the kdz on a stock non-rooted vs995! Just with a grain of salt, uppercut is recognized as a virus by some AV, but I took the risk and checked it out and it looks like it's just a false positive because it modify's another programs files in memory... so use at your own risk!
Thanks a million everyone, I finally fixed my Lg v20 vs995! I kept having failure trying it with Uppercut, but I finally saw that I needed to install 3 files to get it to work correctly, 1st you need the kdz file: VS99512A_06_1114_ARB00.kdz, next you need to install 2 driver files, LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3_3.msi and LGMobileDriver_WHQL_Ver_4.1.1.exe, and of course have UPPERCUT.exe. Finally after installing all of the correct drivers, and loading UPPERCUT, using the VS99512A_06_1114_ARB00.kdz, I finally got it to work and you have to choose "UPGRADE" in UPPERCUT, but I completely restored my phone to factory!!! What a frickn blessling, I am so happy, because I was trying for days to fix this..... and I actually threw this phone in the trash, hehehehehe, but something made be take it out of the trash an hour later, THANK GOD!
Link to the KDZ for vs995?
can anyone please direct me to the KDZ for VS995?

[WIP] TMOUS LG G6 TWRP/Root Mega-Thread

I thought that we should probably get one thread going for theorizing/working on getting root on our G6's. I have already gone through the aboot with the latest update, and there is no way we can flash anything from there. Our best bet will be using the files autoprime supplied here.
I have no experience building TWRP if anyone would like to help with that. I'll gladly be a guinea pig once I find a way to get LGUP or a similar flashing option to work on the G6.
I also propose that all root bounty donations should go to the EFF once we achieve this.
To-Do:
Get LGUP to detect the G6 - DONE - Use the attached DLL file and follow the instructions below to enter download mode
Create test build of TWRP - DONE
Flash TWRP via custom *.TOT or *.KDZ (Priority)
Verify that we can flash an unsigned image in LGUP
Install supersu.zip
??????
PROFIT
How to enter download mode:
Unplug USB cable (if connected) and power off your device
Hold the volume up key and connect your USB cable
Welcome to download mode
I am not responsible for anything that happens due to this thread. This includes (but is not limited to) bricked phones, a broken plumbus, or explosive diarrhea.
I'm going to go pass out now. Will start again in the AM. (Also reserving second post in case it is needed.)

There is a modified version in the thread for repacking, but hopping on the Github page shows that there is some hidden verification method in the kdz file that makes it fail. Still worth looking into, as this seems to be the best option.
I believe .kdz files have some sort of encryption, and .tot files do not

LG 20 H910-10Q to US996

My phone is a unlocked at&t h910-10q can I flash US996 Firmware on my phone so I can have a phone that does not have AT&T junk on it using kdz without root
Post a link to the KDZ that you want to flash and I will let you know if it is safe. I can't tell you if it will work, but I can at least let you know if you are going to brick your phone.
If it doesn't work, you will have to root it so that you can flash back to stock since there is no H910 KDZ.
@runningnak3d can I flash this zip https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/rom-us99610k-stock-rom-twrp-flashable-t3691784 on my h910?

Hey @omnixech did you used the us996 kdz?
@runningnak3d any thougs about it?
I got busy on Friday and didn't get a chance to check. I will as soon as I get to work and post the findings.
@prismk @omnixech
The US996 definitely uses the same RSA key as the H910, so you won't brick your phone. I can't tell you if it will work, and I also can't tell you what the ARB version is.
Before you flash, you need to verify from someone that has a US996 what the ARB version is for 10l. If it is greater than 0, then don't do it, because if it doesn't work you will be stuck and can't flash H910 firmware back onto your phone.
Prismk, I understand why omnixech wants to flash the KDZ -- he / she doesn't want to root their phone. You already have root, so what are you hoping to gain?
-- Brian
@runningnak3d I was scared because the us996l zip flash all partitions except recovery, but I will give a try. Thank you!
The US996 ROM have UI differences, like the carrier name (hidden) on status bar and LTE icon. I can change that on H910, but I will have to use xposed and will break magisk
safetynet.
@omnixech If you did used US996 KDZ please update this thread, if it was ok I will use this KDZ too. I won't be able to use an app that my company use because I have root
No I have not used the kdz I most likely will not it is my only phone and do not want to risk ruining it.
I just was tying to remove all the at&t junk on my phone with out have to root, I do not like the current rooting method that is available for my phone leaving that warning message during boot.
I will just leave well enough alone until a better way to root comes along or I get a new phone what ever happens first.

Sorry, the H990 handles the cellular modem quite differently. If it doesn't outright brick it won't have service.. Its why there arnt any Lineage builds for it.
It work for me. Network service working in my country. Except I cant access phone information in *#*#4636#*#*
So I cant lock to specific network. Other than that it runs much smoother without those AT&T bloat.
I did a test on the latest version US99610o_01_0202.kdz and it worked perfectly fine.
Just one note, make sure you are carrier unlocked before flashing to the new KDZ variant.
The only thing I found a little bit of annoying, at least on my case, is that you can't check for updates in the phone, I keep getting the following message "Your phone is not registered yet." Although there is a workaround (just google it), my way of fixing it is by updating through LGMobile Support Tool.
Hope that helps.
So it's possible to flash a us996 rom on H910? I'd like to know because the att ui sucks.

Yes, it is possible, I did the conversion from H910 v10q to US996 v10o.
However I am not sure if further versions in the H910, the ARB is incremented, making impossible to change the firmware, however if that is the case you will be stopped when LG UP will say "anti-rollback check failed" and abort.
In this case I used the patched LG UP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/guide-patch-lgup-to-unlock-features-t3652222

Regarding the battery, I haven't found any real difference, but the ROM is way cleaner.
The way I did the conversion is doing the following:
Download the latest KDZ variant for US996: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673956719939828249
Further versions can be found here: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-us996-firmwares/
Download the patched LG UP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/guide-patch-lgup-to-unlock-features-t3652222
Make sure you install it in C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP or it will either read the wrong model file (if you had a previous installation of LG UP), or it will not be able to find the model file at all.
Put your phone into download mode (power off / hold vol. up / plug in USB cable)
Open LG UP and click the PARTITION DL radio button, pick the US996 v10o KDZ that you downloaded above, and click start. Make sure all partitions are checked.
Once it is complete, your phone should reboot into the new US996 ROM.

What is your mobile provider? Most likely LTE isn't working since your provider doesn't support the LTE bands from your device.

You're SOL, one of our devs tried several months ago with someone else who was bricked and still had no luck. Plus whatever firehose you found almost certainly won't work on an H918, you need one explicitly for the H918, and not any random other msm8996 phone.

I created the XML file to root by bricking and then flashing TWRP and the engineering aboot, but I have not created the XML files needed to completely reflash a phone (which is what you will need to do).
Let me know if you want to give it a try, and I will send you a link.

Like Phoenix591 said; even with the xml files, what are you going to do? Can't do anything in 9008 mode without the signed firehose loader for H918.
In this post you can find some examples of these files generated for various LG G5 variants.
The firehose included in the rar-file is the same one mentioned by runningnak3d (but it won't work for H918). Just remove the Chinese characters from the link.
So it's a dead end eh.... Why are they making things so hard for the consumers..... SMH!
I know right... Had the same "shock" myself a while back. I'd been dabbling a little with phones before I purchased an el'cheapo H918 on ebay to play with, but those where of a different breed, as I never expected there would be no way to recover from a brick.
I have lots of experience with computers and arm devices like tv-boxes. Been playing with firmware, bios modding etc... Now suddenly LG and Qualcomm tells me I can't even load the original firmware back onto the device.
Just to give an example of what talking about:
I have a fanless mini-pc I bought from Aliexpress 3-4 years ago. Recently it's been acting up with the later Win10 updates, I logically concluded I needed to update the bios, but... good luck finding a bios update for a no-name aliexpress pc.
So what I did was; I used some Intel specific tools to dump the bios and then modify it, updating vga rom, gop rom and cpu microcode. And now I can actually continue to use it. Previously I could not, as it was randomly restarting. Most ppl would have thrown it away at that point.
Now imagine if it was not possible to dump and/or flash a new bios to the motherboard, how ridiculous would that be.
I will not stop harassing anyone I can until I can write my OWN RSA key into the CPU so I can have verified boot AND run my own firmware.
On PCs we can install our own SecureBoot keys -- that is EXACTLY what this is, SecureBoot for phones. We should have the exact same rights. The modem being the ONLY exception.
I understand the need to not have people messing with the modem firmware, since you could crank up transmission power, and do other nasty things.
Simple solution -- keep a separate RSA key just for modem firmware verification.
-- Brian
Ok.... I forgot to mention that I made a TOT backup of this device. (LGH918AT-01-V10t-310-260-MAR-06-2018-ARB01+0.tot) What are my chances of recovering from this TOT?
No. You haven't been able to flash TOT files since MM.

How about extracting the files and compile to make xml files out of this TOT?

The firehose you have is almost certainly not the correctly signed by LG firehose for the H918 (which is even different from the LG firehose for the other V20s), and even when a correct firehose was used (the firehose for the v20s except the H918 which IS a different key and was attempted in the post I quoted) it still wasn't able to unbrick a different model V20 (presumably judging by their public silence after the attempt).
You have spare parts unless you want to send to LG to give them a chance to fix it.

Can I ask how did you make this TOT, qualcomm premium tool, or something?
Probably it contains the needed files, yes.
If you hang onto it, and the phone, then perhaps eventually you'll be able to unbrick. But you don't really need a dump of *your* phone to accomplish that, unless you erased some important unique partitions.
Would be cool if we'd have a leak of LG factory tools/firehose soon

I used Z3x LG to create TOT file.... the file is still the same..... haven't changed anything. I tried to extract this TOT but it's telling me the PrimaryGPT is around 40Gigs when extracted... I don't have that much space available in my laptop
I'm sorry, it seems you have trouble absorbing the info that's been handed to you.
My last post was not to indicate that the TOT could help you in some way, simply that it contains the bootloader (just like any KDZ).
Read Phoenix591's post just above mine. He explains it well.
And here's my supplement: You told us you have this: "prog_emmc_firehose_8996_ddr.mbn"
That file will not work on any LG phone. That can be determined from the name itself - *emmc* and *mbn*. Those are wrong, the right ones are: *ufs* and *elf*.
Second, there exist no known firehose, publicly, that will work on a LG H918.
Your only hope is that eventually one will leak, or that the Z3x, Infinity, Octoplus etc... Team will be able flash in 9008 mode on H918.
Or send it to LG for repair.
Can someone send me the firehose? I won't use it on my phone, i'm just curious how this all works.

Thank you.

Soft brick

I soft bricked the phone and now can only get into download mode. The phone only has two partitions and I was hoping that flashing a KDZ would fix this.
I'm running Linux Mint on my machine and using SALT an LG type open source program in order to flash.
Question: I heard that I should flash something before the Dec 2017 security patch. I can't find any KDZ files unfortunately and was hoping someone here would have a server I could pull it from.

Oh goodness I'm so terribly sorry I seem to have over looked it.
It's an LGV20 H910
What happened is that I used a ROM that was for another model and it kept crashing. After some time I started tinkering with some other software before I realized that even though I bought the device as a 996 I got the 910 version from the eBay seller.
In any case I remember someone mentioning that if I'm going to flash a stock kernel I should stick to something that was before the DEC 2017 security patch so that I can keep the exploit that enables ROM flashing.
Not sure if that's referring to the bootloader that I'll have to flash or the stock ROM itself.
Oh and lastly I remember someone mentioning that the KDZ for my variant of V20 doesn't have any stock images so I'll have to take one from another model flash it to boot then root it and flash a custom bootloader and then re-flash a custom ROM.
That's probably not how it's suppose to work but it's roughly what I remember.

Sorry darling that it took so long to reply!
My phone is detected by SALT (the open source program developed by steadfasterX) BUT it is doesn't want to work with LGup on a windows system because I don't have the proper .dll to work with my model type.
The LGup log file says
"LGUP can't load the model."
funny enough though the log file shows the model type right after a hex key string.
It says "LG-US996.. US99610d..."
I can get the phone into download mode but the phone doesn't have any partitions right now. So for now it's a paper weight.
