Navigation by fingerprint sensor (kernel) - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Is there a way to use fingerprint sensor to navigate (back, home and alternate apps), using a custom kernel or another mod, like in Moto G5?

This question was asked some time ago but I can't find the thread.
I suggest this app(similar available on play store) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep since there's not kernel or other mod.

I'd like to use a kernel because this app cancels fingerprint unlock after four failed attempts (system checks fingerprint authentication even if it's not necessary).
I'll try it for some days, maybe it's not a big problem.

You can use EX kernel according to your Android version. Or Frostbitten kernel if you are on Oreo based roms. These kernels will make u our fingerprint as home button.
Then you can use Button mapper app to use home button as navigation buttons with various gestures. I am using it and it works pretty well.

No, you can't. That's a hardware feature

With this Xposed module

[Q] Hide Screen Buttons

Hey, i just saw that the Huawei Ascend D2 has on-screen buttons that you can hide easy and pop it up again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH4Zt9lP23c(it's from 0:55) and just wondering if anybody could make something like that for the nexus 4?
There are a few ways to do it i believe. If you have a root a few apps will let you do it. Also AOKP has options to change it, as far as without root I'm not sure as I didn't try before i rooted my device. One of the things I have set is using Gesture Control I made swiping gestures from the area where the buttons would have been instead of having the buttons. I think it looks a lot better and for me works just as well.
download a custom rom such as cm10.1 to get this feature.
AOKP CM10.1 and PA all support this in the power menu.
Yes i know about the extended desktop, and i use it all the time. But i were thinking about a button on the soft-keys and a gesture to enable and disable it.

pa has per app expand. meaning you define app you like to jump into this and that mode and they will. if they have a quit button your bars will come back automatically.
there are apps out there can can do that with gestures. three finger gesture or whatever - not sure if they can hide the navigationbar because that would need framework changes afaik. we're working on something like that actually, its not yet 100% ready though.

The on-screen home button does not work at the first tap

Hello everyone,
I'm on Skydragon + Boeffla, sometimes the on-screen home button (the square icon on the display, not the fingerprint physical button) doesn't work at the first tap, I got this problem on stock OOS 2.2.0, too
Anyone faced this issue?

Probably just a preference. I simply like them more, albeit my capacitive buttons are broken. OP, if you have xposed framework already I recommend installing gravitybox and using pie controls. If you can get used to it it has tons of advantages (like saved space/shortcuts), also should have this problem. I do remember having this issue on oxygen os but I still use pie because I really enjoy it
Try disabling the finger print scanner. It worked for me. I tried H2OS, SKydragon, Oxyslim and all other stock based ROMS but the problem still persists.
@Migdilu: Yes, just a preference, and it's more precise and easier to press than the capacitive buttons.
@wtoj34: thank you, but I still want to know why and how to fix it completely

I will try to see if it can fix the problem, but I cannot disable the FPS, it bought OP2 because of this sensor >"<
My on-screen home button works on the 1st tap properly now, don't know how to fix it exactly, but I recently install Boeffla beta 3 and change some configs
Those who got this problem, try SD 3.1 and Boeffla beta 3, if the problem still exists, I will share my Boeffla config

Some parts are, I am unable to do things like remap buttons etc and it crashes if you try to do any quick management editing (which is to be expected). On the plus side, the developer has just ordered the 3t and is planning on making a full;y comparable version for us

That's right. But I still have to wait to have device in my hands as it's currently hard for me to assess what it will take and whether it is worth to work on Marshmallow version considering 3T is receiving Nougat in couple of weeks, which seems to be quite different (hopefully more AOSPish) compared to OOS 3.5.
The only one I seem to find a use for is "Ringer and notification unlink" so that I can separately set notification levels. It adds the slider with the others in settings/sound.
Is there any module to auto hide the navbar after a certain time to prevent burn-in?
/e: so trying to manipulate softkeys with GB results in some weird outcomes (e.g. backbutton not working)
I want this function but i can´t find any mod for it
Short press on recents button - Open menu
Long press recent button - open recents
Long press back button - kill app
Include my modules

a must have is "app settings 1.13" for the simple reason you can change orientation, dpi, keep on, and much more on any app

I tried the pro version but couldn't find it so I did a refund. I can only get it to start an app.
That's sad, maybe I've just been using it for so long it seems simple to me. I guess it just wasn't meant to be for you then because it works perfectly on every phone I've ever had including this one.

Enable Multiwindow in MIUI [Nougat] No Root

We all know Xiaomi doesn't let us use multiwindow on its MIUI though its an android nougat feature. However there's a nifty trick to activate this feature on any nougat MIUI device including our Mi 5.
Note that this works on nougat based MIUI only.
First download the app called Button Mapper. You need the pro version.
Playstore link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton
Open the app and give permission for services.
Go back to the app and click the 'Menu' button. On top activate customisation. Click on long press. Scroll down and select Split screen.
Your device is now ready to use splitscreen or multiwindow feature. Open an app. Press and hold the menu or recents button. Slide your finger from the extreme bottom of the screen to slide the window up. Now you can open and run another app simultaneously. When using two apps at a time, press the outline separating the windows for a few options.
Make sure to allow the app to autostart in Security>Permissions>Autostart.
Not all apps are supported by default but you can do it by enabling force activities to be resizable from developer settings. And this won't always work like you intend. You may face a few bugs.

Just got news that miui is bringing multiwindow in miui 8. The alpha builds will get it first. Quick reoly is probably a long way to go, sadly.
Thank you
The quick reply is really much important and useful then the multitasking window , I hope someone here can find a workaround or an app that can do this without rooting , I have tried some floating apps like notifly but all doesn't provide any thing near the native quick reply feature

Havent looked into it. This is probably because the app alters input of the device. Does three finger screenshot stop working when using two windows at a time or just after configuring anything within the app?

Just after configuring anything within the app ? I think once you grant accessibility access it tottaly stop working in all cases

Is there Moto type fingerprint swipe for Essential?

Question to the collective.
In going full immersive i have been trying to find and app the uses the finger print sensor.
My other phone is a Moto Z4 play .
Motorola has the this kind of immersive mode where the nav butons are hid, but the fingerprint sensor gains functionality.
Swipe left go back.
swipe right go to running apps
tap Fingerprint sensor and goes home.
I use the fingerprint sensor to swipe down notifications, but want toi have the moto z4 type functionality.
I have tried multiple apps to the fingerprint sensor and they all dont work. any direction that i can be pointed would be appreciateed.
Thanks
I use Fingerprint Swipes (by Adrian Campos) on my essential. It works relatively well.
Did you try that one?

The beta will not allow you to have OTA updates just so you know if you are going to go thru with it. And the app doesn't have tap for home, but you can swipe up or down for that.

That works on 7.1.1 too.
I wanted to not have to touch the screen to go back, home or running apps.
Just use the fingerprint sensor each swipe be defined.
Looks like I'll have to wait for Oreo to be pushed and I can try the app mentioned above
