Flash stock ROM (January or February beta) via Mi Flash Tool and use clean flash option. Get it in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/development/tool-aosp-8-0-ql1515-dec-8-2017-t3722184. Sorry for the bootloop caused by the mod.
Go into fastboot and type fastboot erase userdata to erase everything. Then flash an official Mi A1 rom using Mi Flash Tool: https://xiaomifirmware.com/roms/download-official-roms-xiaomi-mi-a1/
Get an android 7 rom for the moment, until android 8 would be optimized.

My phone came with version 66.77.... (MIUI 6) from the reseller.
I have installed TWRP, rooted the device using adb and then flashed 5.9.24. So far so good.
After some time i decided to try AOSP ROM. I made a backup in TWRP and then flashed AOSP using TWRP. No problems so far (cleared cache, dalvik etc)
Then I wanted to revert back to 5.9.24. I cleared cache dalvik etc, and then I cannot remember anymore if i have reflashed 5.9.24 or restored the backup made previously from TWRP, the thing I wasn't able to boot into recovery anymore. The phone was stuck on the teamwin logo if booted into recovery but normal boot was working fine.
Then i reflashed twrp using adb.
After doing that, my phone was still stuck on the teamwin logo when booting into recovery, but with normal booting i was getting infinite boot loops at Mi logo screen.
After several ours of tries, i was able to solve the normal booting problem by flashing the stock recovery (so the phone is now back on the 5.9.24 - and working fine) but when I try to flash twrp using adb the same symptoms as before:
- Recovery boot - stuck on teamwin logo screen
- Normal boot - boot loops
I already tried to flash via Updater app, Flashify and Windroid nothing worked.
Can anyone help me to get this custom recovery working, please?
Thanks
Regards,
Nick

i saw the request of the message but i am not using a custom recovery on my phone,i use a custom dev rom made by miui france.
i think some china dev rom comes rooted by default with custom installer updater and gapps like mine.
i think twrp is not fully compatible with this device yet.
Have you try with sp flash tool method ?

I just installed TWRP for the first time ever. I used the Flashify App from the Play Store, installed it and gave it root permissions and just selected the TWRP image on the phones internal store. Seemed to work just fine and did not have to plug my phone into a computer
Hello. I rooted my phone using this guide en.miui .com /thread-415853-1-1.html
Everything works good, but then I tried to move an app to system with Link2SD but it said "write error no space left on device" and system space was 100%. I moved some system apps to user apps to make space (Mi Cloud, Mail, Calendar) but the problem persisted so I decided to leave it alone and not do anything. I then proceed to unroot by uninstalling with Magisk Manager, reboot and it got stuck on Mi Logo. I even left it for several hours but nothing happened.
I found out that if I enter fastboot and then TWRP, I can flash Magisk again, reboot, and it is not stuck on MI Logo anymore, the system boots perfectly and all my files and apps are there same as before. But how can I unroot without getting stuck on MI Logo? Is there a problem with Magisk or something? What else can I try?
I'm thinking my best choice is to flash the Mi ROM again using TWRP, is that correct? Any help would be appreciated, I'm still learning about this.
Currently I have MIUI Global 8.5.5.0 Stable (MADMIED) and I just downloaded the zip file of that rom.
Ok I worked it out. I'm going to post my solution in case someone else has the same problem.
Since I was able to boot system normally if I flashed Magisk again, I did that, made a backup of my whatsapp chats and saved a backup of my files in MI Account.
Then I reboot TWRP recovery, wipe all (factory reset) and flash my ROM MIUI Global 8.5.5.0 Stable (MADMIED). Phone started, root was gone, restored my backup.
Then I reboot again TWRP, flash Magisk and Phh SU and everything else in the guide linked above. Installed Link2SD, deleted some system apps (Youtube, Google Play Movies and Music and some others), and then I was able to move the app I wanted to system.
Rebooted phone to system. Then uninstalled Magisk from Magisk Manager, reboot phone, and everything worked ok!
Thanks, im planning on flashing twrp and magisk, so this could become handy ?
Try flashing these, worked like a charm for me.

just remove the spaces and you are ready to go!
Found a better Solution!
If you are stuck on the MI logo after the unroot that's because of the verity check of the ROM. So if u could boot into the custom recovery(TWRP) then just simply flash the lazy flasher zip file and then you are good to go, the ROM will normally boot with all of your files and apps.
Hello everyone! I am using Xiaomi Mi9T with OrangeFox recovery.
Today I decided to upgrade from the abandoned PixelExperience ButterySmooth rom to MSM-Xtended. I wiped data, cache, dalvik and system, installed the MSM XR v2.0 and Flame Gapps and everything has been working perfectly fine - I love the ROM so far.
However, I have trouble installing Magisk. I downloaded Magisk21.0.zip, flashed it in recovery, but my phone got stuck on fastboot. I uninstalled Magisk, everything went back to normal and I then tried patching the rom boot.img with Magisk manager and flashing that to the boot partition, once again phone gets stuck to fastboot. I tried the integrated OrangeFox Magisk installer, but it just gets stuck on the MI boot screen where it says "powered by Android".
Could you please help me with how I can fix this and install Magisk on my phone? Am I missing something?
Thank you in advance!

Instead of probably your Stable Magisk v20.4 (six months old), try Canary v21101
Download Magisk Manager Canary v315 ( latest) from Github and patch the boot.img (Recovery option must be unticked) and flash magisk_patched.img by Fastboot to Boot partition

SOLUTION: I reached out to the ROM developers on Telegram and they sent me an old Magisk to flash. I did and it worked successfully and after updating through Magisk manager everything is working perfectly fine now The file can also be found in the ROM thread.
I'm running Android 10 with EvoX rom and after last update of Magisk to 21.4 the phone is stuck on bootloop. After going to recovery and uninstalling Magisk I have the same problem, it's still in bootloop. What can I do to fix the problem?
Dirty flash ROM or if 1st step doesn't work factory reset and install everything
Same here. I don't want to do a factory reset.
I tried to:
- uninstall Magisk from twrp
- flash the boot.img of the rom
- flash the previous version 21.2 of magisk
but none of this worked!
I have the same Issue. Havoc 3.9., Magisk 21.4.
I tried to dirty flash the rom, uninstall magisk 21.4 via twrp, and flashing 21.2.
Didn't help. Occassionally I got into the system, but the screen is a bit more white than usually, I can type in my lock password, but after this, System UI fails.
Yesterday I flashed the fix for safetynet passing after the latest update, which made it work again, and I remember that at the relevant magisk forum, somebody mentioned that would affect System UI somehow. Now I am trying to repair the System UI to see if it works as a solution.

What fix are you talking about? Where can I acquire it?
EDIT: In my case the bootloop was caused by the Systemless Xposed Framework module v90-beta2 by rovo89 (packaged by topjohnwu). Disabling that module allowed me to boot normally.

How can you install that Module from TWRP?
That i remember i never installed it, it's automatically loaded with magisk?
To solve this problem i had to format the phone, installing the OS again and also magisk v21.2. But Today i got the same problem... so maybe is not the versione of magisk. But I don't know of to solve it.
I tried also the sotck boot.img, but it stays some seconds on the boot screen of lineage OS and then reboot again stucking on Mi logo.
i also had to install stock rom, lost all the data on the phone. today i have to install custom rom, and will probably pass on the magisk, i don't need sh**t like this happening again.
I had to reinstall the rom from scratch, and needed to format data partition too. After flashing my ROM back, I installed magisk 21.2 and it works great.
I solved:
-go in fastboot mode
-flash twrp recovery
-go in twrp and with mtp insert magisk-uninstaller.zip and last magisk-21.4.zip
-run uninstaller.zip than installer.zip
-reboot in system

Thank you, brother. It was a simple solution but I forget to do that. After wasting 2 hours finally able to solve the problem. Thanks again.
I do have orangefox recovery flashed into my phone. Wiped data, system, cache... and format data
First of all, I installed MIUI (the latest version from mi website "miui_DAVINCIGlobal_V12.1.4.0.RFJMIXM_e0ac13ed89_11.0.zip"). If I reboot into the system, it works fine.
Then flash magisk(v24.3) and 'disable DM-Verity_ForceEncrypt', and reboot into recovery
When I flash nethunter (nethunter-2022.2-davinci-miui-ten-kalifs-full.zip), which I downloaded from offensive security webpage., it does install well (at least it doesn't show any error messages).
After flashing nethunter, I rebooted into system. When nethunter logo did pop up, it got stuck into that fire animation. I can still access fastboot and recovery menu.
Any idea of what's happening? Why doesn't it boot?

For Magisk you ABSOLUTELY don't need Verity and so
Simply, extract boot.img from the firmware zip and by using Magisk APP take install, Select and Patch to patch your extracted boot.img
Do not enable Recovery option while patching
Then flash from Fastboot the patched boot img to Boot
That's it - the proper way to install Magisk to your Xiaomi ( I used and still use on my Mi 9T from MIUI 10 till now with MIUI 12.5)
For Nethunter I cannot help you. It's been more than two years since I used Kali and at that time it installed flawlessly.
However, then I had MIUI 11 and Kali required MIUI 11 - don't know how is it now...
And btw, I always use the latest TWRP.me version - currently 3.6.1_9-0
