This was an artical on a norwegian mobile site
This summer, it was said that Android 2.2 version of the Galaxy S probably would get an official version in September. September is known as the passed, but the update is now just around the corner.
- We have estimated the deployment in mid-October, and hopefully the update will reach users during the next week, "said Stig Ove Langø, major account manager in Samsung Norway.
Your phone is much faster
Android OS 2.2, also called Froyo, is a major update. Some of the highlights:
The browser has been quicker to load sites with Javascrip
Applications will load two to five times faster that everything does not have to be before you start, but it all happen on the way
Processor performance of the phone in general should be better
Memory handling must be very much faster.
Exchange support is greatly improved
The phone can function as Wi-Fi router
In addition, there are a lot of other things that have changed when it comes to user interface. The full list can look at the Android development page.
Great

Ah, that's good news. amobil.no are usually more dependable than any operator. So this might just be the right deal...
it depends where the corner is...
i think is near too.
Samsung just tweeted this:

We’re very sorry about the delay with the release of Froyo. We're working on it round the clock & will post an update as soon as we have one
They like to tweet something like that every other week to make us think it's nearby. All we can do is wait.
hey tweeted that on the 8th i believe, and probably re-tweeted it again
i hope to god its just round the corner, im not moaning believe me, i moaned a hell of alot more with my hero and the delays for 2.1
GPS best be fixed, as no matter what rom i have flashed, it takes an age to lock on, and when it does at best im about 100 metres away from where i actually am
The filesystem is shocking also
all in all though, i love the music player, samsung always get that bit right
that gps problems is a hardware problem some guy who sended his phone back got a new antenna(different material) in it and then it worked fine! its with the first batch of phones. i got a phone that came with jm2 instead of fp3 from when i got it right out of the box and my phone is good and acurate on gps quick fix and very accurate 5-10 meters
Its a software problem with the GPS. i get 5-10 meters accuracy too. But when i slow down everything went jumping around... locking is not a problem for me. Its only that it cant rly lock me to one place. So i guess its a software problem
yea its jumping a little i just noticed in a gps monitoring program but it keeps locked on (rarely they go all gray for a sec but then its back again)(gives no problems in actual navigation) here and while driving and navigating in car with sygic mobile maps it never looses track

FroYo better be good or I'm selling and getting WP7. Although I was against it from the start its shaping up to better than Android.
I love Android but its not polished as an OS yet. It really isn't. Samsung's AWFUL software department doesn't help either.

Good to know that they are working their ass off, because the beta Froyo's i've seen are not worth waiting for
Hope they take their time to make the update really worthwhile. No problem waiting for it.

So because Android still has a few quirks to sort out and needs some polish here and there, you're considering jumping to a spanking new, "fully rewritten" platform?
Among the features that are not yet present are cut, copy, and paste, full multitasking
[...]
Support for removable SD cards and tethering have also been left out of the OS. Microsoft claims this to be in the interest of data security for enterprise users. Windows Phone 7 will also not support Silverlight in the web browser or IPsec virtual private network (VPN) security, videocalling, a system-wide file manager, Bluetooth file transfers, and music player equalizers.

Stream TV has posted a new firmware.
http://elocitynow.com/support_downloads.shtml
Thanks for info...
Downloaded and loading now. I will report my experience with the new firmware in a while.
For anyone who has not upgraded, please let me know what the build number was on the old firmware. Nothing cosmetic, seems a little slower than the Dexter mod I was running, may have to revert back to that until something substantial occurs with the firmware. There is a new kernel if the previous one in Dexter's mod was based on the December 24th release.
I'm curious about the date of the release not changing although the description of what has changed is at the top of the page.
I just checked, it still says Dec. 24, 2010. I'm not seeing the 1/15/2011 update listed on their firmware page.
The same here ...is the file the new one or the one from December?...what is suppose to be a new build number?
It hard to say because the filename is update.zip. It would be useful if they changed the naming convention to something friendlier. Let us rename the file to update.zip. Anyway that would be a recommendation. Name the file by the release date.
It is the new firmware on the website.
Date is incorrect.
I installed but ido not see any difference...
The update is a new update. Below is the build number of the December update and the current one.
December - PBJ8000.2.0121
January 14/15 I guess depending on where you are - PBJ8000.2.0124
No visual changes, all under the hood. Ad-hoc works without modification I did notice that. I'll keep it installed since I have added the marked to it.
Still does not report external storage correctly.
Still looking for Cifs and some 3g usb dongle support. That would round it out for me.

And you expected something different?
Unfortunately they can't include the Market or the google app as Google won't allow them. There is nothing they can do until Google changes the rules or releases a version of Android approved for tablets. This is the case with just about all the Android tablets currently on the Market.
I'm waiting for a ROM that includes the Market and Google Apps to be cooked up by the Devs here before I to the update.

Yeah if you don't understand that stream tv won't be releasing a firmware with market at least on froyo, I don't think you get it. Wait for Dexter of another dev to cook up a rom or learn how to get market on there yourself. before you start calling the updates a POS.
That said has anyone noticed any real changes? So far the only difference for me is that swype FCs on me now.

Froyo was not designed for tablets. The only tablet, 7 inches or bigger, that comes with official market support is the galaxy tab. Well that I'm aware of being available anyway. Google is currently only approving market for phones on 2.2 and the only reason the galaxy tab got approval is a convoluted definition as a phone. or more likely in my mind some backroom dealings between samsung and google. Either way Stream TV has never promised market on the A7 and most of us jumped in knowing that. If you lost market el al by upgrading to the latest firmware that means you were previously running a mod... my guess being one of dexters since I'm not aware of any others.
It seems you were not aware that the mod you were running was not an official firmware from Stream TV and is not supported by them.

No, Dexter's V1.1 is based on the latest (1/15/11) firmware. If you install that you get the latest firmware plus the Market and Gapps.
A short great news from Engadget China.
it seems an engadget writer got an internal message from ASUS: Android 3.1 is expected to be released within next week, or even, as early as Tuesday.
source: http://cn.engadget.com/2011/05/27/android-3-1-eee-pad-transformer/
Android 3.1 newfeatures:
-UI refinements
-Connectivity for USB accessories
-Expanded Recent Apps list
-Resizeable Home screen widgets
-Support for external keyboards and pointing devices
-Support for joysticks and gamepads
-Robust Wi-Fi networking
-new browser, calendar, contact and email version
-Performance optimizations
etc.
I just got a brand new Transformer yesterday, turned it on and the first thing it did was ask me to update.
I'm almost certain it was to 3.1, I'll check when I get home tonight, but I have already been using the USB ports on it so it would have to be 3.1 wouldn't it?
I'll let you know once I check the version.
Sweet! That is something to look forward too!

No - the USB ports on the dock already work with 3.0.1 for many devices, so that isn't an indicator.
Chances are that your update is just the one released earlier this month, because your TF was probably on a boat on its way from China at that point in time!

Dave

If its a new Transformer, then the update is most likely the Asus Firmware update rather than Honeycomb 3.1 (sorry to bring rain to a parade)
I received mine yesterday, as soon as when I connected to Wifi, I got the update which is 3.0.1.
I highly doubt its out next Tuesday. Especially after what Asus stated on Facebook a few days ago about the release schedule.
Could be, actually: there's a French review video showing 3.1 running on a TF. So, if it's far enough along to be sent on a review unit, it could very well be close to release.
I'll say, if they DO release it as early as next week (or even just within the first 10 days or so of June), then I'll be even more impressed with how Asus is supporting the TF so far.
Interesting update notif
This morning when I woke up, the device was kind a slow. I did a reboot. When it came on, I got an triangle icon with ! mark within saying that there is system update avail, click for update kind of thing.
I right away clicked it. It shown as downloading system update something but then it disappeared pretty quick. I went into system info page but not seeing anything news in term of android, firmware, wifi, bluetooth.... Did several force update request but nothing. So that was an interesting event.
Not sure if it was a internal Google update (map, music..) as we have heard several days now or Asus posted the OTA Android 3.1 for a quick test and pulled it out right away or something.
Anyway, leave a note here in case anyone else had it too.
With my TF being rooted and running custom ROM and kernel I am at the grace of the devs here anyway to release a modified 3.1
cant wait, ive seen it run on xoom, only a week away.....WOW....... not bad on asus' behalf getting the update out quick

I was under the impression that support for external keyboards/mice was an ICS feature. Are we sure this is going to be in 3.1? (If so, that's fantastic)

It will likely be released market by market so US will get it first then others, same principle as other updates.

This is a highly underrated little tablet with Lollipop. Its so smooth and fast, I would say performance so far seems better than the time I spent with a Nexus 9.
I returned the shield tablet and bought this ASUS. It runs a lot better. I cannot believe that Google or ASUS isn't pushing this tablet harder.

Yep, thats true. They really should do much more advertising!
It is an absolutely amazing tablet for the price. It does seem to be faster on Lollipop than it was on 4.4.2. The only problem I seem to be having with the lollipop update is CrunchyRoll streams do not seem to play (the commercials do, but not the content itself)...
Installed it yesterday and not happy with performance. (and there is a bug that can break your auto rotate)
Is there a way to revert back to kitkat?
Think twice if you play music/video/internet radio through headphones.
You will lose bass through headphones regardless Audio Wizard off or on, or any mode.
However, A2DP supported bluetooth headset/headphones is not affected, and, fortunately, I have several bluetooth receivers for headphones, so I can use wireless method to retain the bass.
I have the ME572CL Japan model (JP sku firmware). There are TW and WW lollipop updates available to download from Asus, but no sign of a JP version. Anyone know if I can I flash mine with the WW version? I'm perfectly happy to lose the for Japan software (in fact that would be positively delightful), I just obviously don't want to stop the thing from working properly or brick it.
I upgraded my ME572C to Android 5.01 on April 7th and have found it to be glitchy.
Google newsstand articles close out without prompting, some issues with Asus gallery and google play store as well.
Google has announced its Nexus Set Top Player (Asus build with same Atom processor as the ME572C) will be getting the Android 5.1.1 upgrade to fix a bunch of lollipop bugs.
Can we expect the same for our Me572c soon?
Still no 5.0 upgrade for the JP sku. I wonder whether they have decided not to bother and to just wait for 5.1.1 to get rid of some of the many bugs and glitches. From some of the comments on this forum it seems that maybe us Japan users are better off having been left behind on KitKat...
I like lollipop, but it does have bugs. Mine locked up completely the other day.

just updated to lollipop. mine is having issue with auto-rotate and i would sometimes reboot twice or more to fix it.
i was hoping that the on screen navigation buttons would change after the update but asus stayed with the old on screen buttons rather than the lollipop style on screen navigation buttons.
Looks like Asus pulled the Lollipop update for the ME572C from their site.
I checked both the U.S. and Taiwan support sites (www.asus.com/us/Tablets/ASUS_MeMO_Pad_7_ME572C/HelpDesk_Download/ and www.asus.com/tw/Tablets/ASUS_MeMO_Pad_7_ME572C/HelpDesk_Download/). The Lollipop 5.0.1 WW_V12.14.1.9 build that came out in early April 2015 is nowhere to be found.
I hope Asus is going back to fix reported issues and...hopefully...go straight to 5.1 or 5.1.1 with the next update soon.

Wow, it is gone... I've been happy with mine running lollipop at this point, but if it has been pulled they must have found something seriously wrong... The only thing I have had a problem with it is CrunchyRoll does not stream content (it does stream the advertisements!).
This update is far from perfect, some bugs disappeared, but there are new ones :
- sometimes, when watching videos with Youtube or Twitch for example, through headphones, an awful shrill sound comes out. Stopping the video has no effect, it looks like unplug/replug stop it.
- everytime the charger is plugged in, I lose the fade on the wallpaper.
Sent from my K007 using XDA Free mobile app
Strange how they pulled the 5.0 firmware updates for the 572C but not the 572CL. Also strange that they released the updates for WW and TW, but not for JP.
They have now pulled the source code for the lollipop update, which was still there last I had checked...
The lollipop firmware for the ME572CL has now been pulled too.
The 5.0.1 Lollipop firmwares for C and CL tablets are back online. I updated via system update.
There are 2 problems I discovered. If you have multi-users on the tablet and if one of them has any security lock set up, you can't switch between the users.
The second problem is that face-unlock is missing.
And the biggest problem of them all is that we still can't uninstall or disable the bloatware. Stupid ASUS.
Thanks for posting. Updated and so far no force closes.

Had the Nexus 6P - but even with Franco kernel and normal use battery life wasn't long enough. Saw the release of the S7 Edge unlocked which was great so I went and picked it up from best buy last night. Big reason is the monthly update cycle and keeping everything patched from a security standpoint without the Verizon bloat and slow release cycles.
Went to check the patch level and saw "Android security patch level: May 1, 2016". Checked for updates and are none.
Anyone else experiencing this? Appears to be missing June for sure and the newly released July security patches.

Yep - same with me - no briefing feed when you swipe left - nothing there.
Wonder whats happening - would hope Samsung provides updates to their own phone.. ?
I'm guessing it's because the phone just came out that they haven't released an update with the latest security patches yet. They probably have to set up their update servers for this new phone and a bunch of other behind the scenes stuff to get updates rolling. I would assume that it will get something within the next couple weeks and then continue to keep up with the other variants.
Does this variant of the S7 Edge have an unlocked bootloader?
No unlocked bootloader - just not tied to an individual carrier i.e. verizon, etc. with the extra bloatware.
Still no updates yet to the SM-G935U.
Ended up returning it and going back to my Nexus - no updates really sucks.
Has anyone figured out how to get briefing on the left screen. I used that a lot and i can't get it to work. Even went to the play store and Samsung store, got briefing but it won't let me enable it on the home screen settings...?
I've gone round and round with Samsung support about this particular unlocked device. The bottom line is that they are saying OTA updates for these devices might not be available because those are normally pushed through the carrier. They suggested to use their Smart Switch tool to apply updates. Even though this is a terrible idea and they should use OTA (with the invention of non-carrier WiFi these days ), I checked using this tool and surprise... there were no updates available.
I'll spare everyone the entire conversation, but this is how it ended:
"We understand. If you have an unlocked the latest updates for firmware and security can be done through Smart Switch. If you have checked for an update using Smart Switch and there aren't any currently available, we couldn't speculate on when that may change. In many cases this wouldn't be delivered OTA because OTA updates are normally pushed by carriers. Unlocked devices may not be able to get updates directly from the carrier currently being used. ^Jay"
Mine just updated today with the August 1st security patches. If had to guess, they waited until the Olympics were over since they handed these unlocked devices out to every athlete in attendance and they didn't want them receiving updates during the event.
Hopefully now that the unlocked models have received their first update, they will continue to get regular updates at the same time as other variants.
just checked for update - 164.13 mb ) ( g935v flashed to g935u)

Thanks for posting this one, thats good to hear. I wonder if they will proceed further. Good to hear Samsung's infrastructure will support updates in the future. I wonder if its only for security patches or if they will do incremental updates to OS as well, like Android N for example.
Just got this tonight. I didn't have automatic update turned on but I checked and this showed up. Idk if i should do it or not.
I'm on T-Mobile with the SM-G935U. I got the update a few weeks ago and now it shows the Aug 1,2016 Android security update.
As far as root and bootloader unlock should i not do the update or just go for it?
