Low Performance on Stock ROM - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hello to everyone. I'm using version B35. But other versions have the same problem. Often the performance is very low when the charge goes down. Performance is selected from the power manager, but I am still experiencing this problem. I think it's related to Kernel, but I can not find a solution. I am sure everyone is having this problem. Can you find a solution?

Don't be so sure... I've been using Simple Planes @ max settings and with about 5% battery, and never got below 40-50 fps which is what i always get
Try other governors maybe? Like conservative? I usually find it better than Interactive for performance, especially concerning frame drops, as ironic as that may sound

Urgent Help: HTC P3600 Freeze!

Hello,
I am owner of HTC P3600 from last 12 months and i used custom roms too all was working fine and before 2 days i found that whenever i leave the HTC for few hours it hangs and when i press the standby button to wake it up nothing appears on the screen and i have to reset it to start it again.
Updates:
Ok i re flash the Hard SPL, Radio and Rom and until now (in last 24 hours) it don't hangs.....
Update 2: I think the battery is the problem as the battery time is decreased from 3 days to just 1 and a half day and it freeze now while charging....
Any solution? anyone experience the same problem?
Help please with your views...............
I have a similar problem. My HTC started crashing after a rom update. However, i think it is not crashing due to software...
Well, the software is more CPU demanding, so it heats more than before. Also, i started using backlight properties set to high (i need to set to low again), which again highly heats the PDA. Finally, when charging the battery tends to get very hot. All this put together causes the CPU to overheat and crashing.
At least, from my experience, when it crashes it is always very hot.

Sounds like a radio rom problem. Try to reflash radio.
Thanks for the advice!
I will reflash the radio rom.
If it solves the problem i will update my post here so everyone else knows how to solve this kind of problem.
it helped ? reflashing the radio rom ?
lol you ****up your phone hahahahahahahha
No, it did not helped. Probably it is an hardware problem.
The pda was intensively used connected to the computer, because it was used for software developing.
I think it is broken, hehe.

leedroid lag?

Hi, I've just flashed leedroid but I seem to be suffering with some small amount of lag that I didn't experience on the stock Rom..... when I open messages or emails for example there is a small pause, and u can visibly see the screen refresh. I never suffered with this this beforehand. Also I have noticed that I'm getting some lag when changing certain settings, the leedeoid Icon pops up whilst its thinking..... now, so far I haven't gotten around to installing the LeeDrOiD Ace V2.2.5 R2 Kernel, is that likely to fix my little issue?
Cheers
Steve
After flashing, have you done another reboot? Sometimes I find a new ROM doesn't settle until I've rebooted a couple of times. Give it a try and see how it feels then report back either way
Let it bed in steve, should have dropped this in the rom thread

Yup...reboot will fix your problem..
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Thanks for the reply Lee, but as citizenlee said, I'm unable to post in that section at present.
So far i still seem to be having the slow refresh issue on sms and emails, do u think that the fact I haven't flashed the Ace V2.2.5 R2 Kernel yet could be part of the issue? I'm certainly going to try flashing it to see if it helps..... I know know you've put a heck of a lot of work into this and believe me it is appreciated, just hope I can get it working as well as it was intended.
You could try the kernel... and failing that a full wipe and reflash of the ROM should sort you out
problem

dear lee i have installed your PERFECT rom 2.2 1.8 ghz
but it has frozen 2 times the screen and after rebooting it stays frozen...?
this also happened with coredroid ..any suggestions my friend?
regards(i am new here^^)
Ok, i think i got to the bottom of my lag problems. I have been playing around with set cpu today. I think the minimum speed of 245mhz in smartass was too low and was causing the lag (usually when waking the phone from screen off) I have now changed settings to 'ondemand' with a minimum speed of 245mhz and maximum of 1344mhz but i also created a 'screen off' profile with a working range of 245mhz to 576mhz which seems to give it a bit more poke when waking from screen off No more lag! ( i still have the visible refresh issue i mentioned, maybe i'm imagining that one though, maybe it did do it on the stock rom but i didn't take note of it....??)
So, i really have no idea if i've done the right thing with the way i have set up setcpu so if anyone would care to comment on the settings i've used please do so.
Many thanks again for all the help.
Steve

[Q] Good volts and screen settings please?

I've searched for hours for this topic on google and I've tried a lot of the presets people are using for their N4 but man, it just doesn't work with mine unless mine is different? Whenever I use the presets of other people who claim it to be good, my N4 just stutters or just crashes and restarts. It also says many apps and even franco kernel updater has stopped working every like 30 seconds. Its annoying and not normal. I want good presets for the best battery life without performance loss and I would like good screen settings too. Much appreciated guys, thanks.
Cheers.

Don't put so much importance on voltage. I'm only undervolted by -50mv and I have awesome battery life. I can try to get my screen settings up a bit later, I've calibrated it to match my n7 as closely possible. I'm fast binned and anything at or over -100mv causes mass instability for me, it sounds like you might be in the same situation.
Thanks. May you please show me your voltage settings please?

KNOWN issues with KT-SGS4 Sprint KitKat 4.4 TouchWiz kernel

SO... in regards to the KT-SGS4 KitKat 4.4 TouchWiz kernel, the vast majority of users seem to have no problems with it, but there ARE KNOWN issues that appear to be caused by this kernel for some users, with varying degrees of rarity. WHY certain users have these issues when others do not is not currently known, but it would be great if we could figure this out. I am HOPING this thread (and it will only be a THREAD with input from others) will help us find cures for the issues we face with this kernel.
KNOWN ISSUES:
#1. Sound skipping - This seems to be the most common issue experienced with the kernel and I actually would not call it rare. Some possible fixes for this are to: A) increase the Media/Music Min Mhz and Bluetooth Profile Mhz to around 702 Mhz or so, B) try using a different I/O Scheduler and try adjusting the Internal and External Read Ahead Buffers, C) change disable_hotplug_media from a 0 to 1.
#2. Phone freezes/locks up while charging
#3. Screen flickers when a window is open over the desktop
#4. Mobile connection/data (and possibly also GPS) loss a while after booting phone - this may be the rarest issue, but it is OBVIOUSLY the most serious. I have suffered from it personally. I contacted Ktoonsez regarding this and he denies it being a known issue since many thousands of users use his kernels and don't have this issue... I have confirmed multiple other users who DO have this issue and the only thing I see we have in common is the KT-SGS4 kernel. It appears that this issue MAY be fixable by using the "right" choice of governor and settings. The problem is that what the "right" choice of governor and settings are MAY be determined by your ROM. On stock rooted NAE with MF9 bootloader, using largely the kernel default settings, including the interactive governor, APPEARS to have cured this issue for me (as well as the freeze while charging), while using the ktoonserativeq governor or the pegasuq governor appear to have caused this issue (I am still in the process of investigating this...).
This is not meant to be in any way negative towards Ktoonsez and I certainly appreciate all the work he does to provide us kernels, but there ARE issues that some of experience and I hope this thread can help us work TOGETHER to solve them! If there are any other issue that you believe should be listed, please post them. If you have any possible cures, please post them. If you need any help, please ask. If you have any input, please post! :highfive:
I can't get his kernel to run on my phone for the life of me so I stuck with Negalite NAE Stock Kernel, but I use his kernel religiously on my wife's s3. Even using basically the same setup I still get skipping on music, phone goes unresponsive after charging a few hours. And a few others.
Is music skipping only for users who are also trying to do ViPER4Android (probably with Convolver turned on)? I think the governor and adjustments are also critical in solving this problem. I've been using ondemand and somebody said interactive is also helpful. The other thing here is that it could be an issue of I/o scheduler. I've been using sio. I'm getting minimal skipping at this point. You're right that ktoonservativeq caused MAJOR skipping, even with tons of governor tweaks.
After switching to ondemand, my phone hasn't locked up while charging, but it has randomly locked up at other times. Weird.
On issue #4, I've lost data less with ondemand but it hasn't completely solved the problem. Sometimes I can toggle Airplane Mode on and off and get going again, but mostly that toggle won't even work and I have to reboot.

That is an interesting question, now that you mention it. I had been using ViPER4Android, probably while I was having the skipping issue, but I stopped using it in the long process of attempting to cure my mobile connection issue (I read something that made me think it could be related) and I'm actually not sure if I ever had the skipping issue without it.
Of all the issues though, this one is very common in the KT-SGS4 kernel thread, so I DOUBT (but don't know) that everyone experiencing it is using
ViPER4Android.
(Also, I THINK it skipped for me without Convolver turned on).
I haven't used v4a since I was on Negalites

Yeah, I think the skipping has to do with the kernel generally allowing the governor in default settings to throttle down too low when music is playing...

Don't forget the issue where the phone will not power up while charging if it's charging while off.
I don't. Mine even skips while the screen is on and I don't use V4A and have tried other than stock music players as well. I have no such problems with Nega but I've tried different modem firmwares too. These don't seem to affect this problem.
If anybody wants, though, they could chime in on my Wifi tethering problem. Nobody seems to wanna tackle it.

I didn't forget it, it is issue #2!
#2. Phone freezes/locks up while charging
In my experience, the phone does NOT have to be off while it is charging to have this issue, it would happen to me when I was charging my phone with it on. Fortunately, on NAE stock rooted with MF9 bootloader, using the mostly default kernel settings with the interactive governor seems to have fixed this issue for me, as well as the mobile connection/GPS issue (knock on wood still...). I mainly just adjusted the I/0 Sceduler to noop and the Media/Music and Bluetooth Min Mhz to 702 Mhz from the stock settings. The only issue I am personally left with now is the screen flicker.
I don't think the screen being on or off relates THAT much to the music skipping issue, it skipped for me too with the screen on. Definitely I would say, using the ktoonservativeq governor with Ktoonsez' settings WILL result in music skipping... BUT, IMO, this MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT, Ktoonsez DOES NOT HAVE OUR PHONE... how can his settings POSSIBLY be OPTIMAL for our phone? Think about that!
As far as your WiFi tethering issue, I am well aware of it personally, having read your other posts, but I don't know much about this (don't use it myself) and in another thread I was going to direct you to a link you are already aware of that didn't help. If anyone can help arikdahn with this, please jump in! :good:
I definitely had more problems with music skipping when the screen would turn off. Using ondemand or interactive with sio and 2048 read ahead caches seems to have almost completely resolved the issue for me. I'm still not sure which I/o scheduler is best.
I would think that the governor throttles down MORE when the screen is off, which is why I consider the Media/Music and Bluetooth Min Mhz settings important to be set above the default, which I believe is Min and should override that throtte down when music playing (ay the expense of battery time, but the battery is meant to be USED when needed) and I can't see how that CAN'T cause skipping in most setups. But it does occur for some even with the screen on.

Well, all I have to go off of is my own expertise with MY equipment only. My thoughts based on this is that it's not a limited-resources type issue, like if the CPU's throttling down or not buffering ahead enough or whatever. I had skipping problems all the time and I tried it with uTorrent running in the background, items downloading/moving, and these processes didn't slow down or cause any problems themselves. That's why I think what I think. Anyway, what this means to me is that I do not believe that in my situation, anything I can do with the kernel's configurable options will change anything. Then again, i think my phone's possessed anyway. It won't run the dialer on AOSP/CM roms and might just be one of the most finnicky high tech devices I've ever owned.

Hey, I'm not in any way disputing what you are saying, the point of this thread is to figure these things out! I'm certainly not presenting myself as the expert on these issues! I'm just a lucky one who seems to have mostly resolved the issues on MY phone. (BUT... I AM NO ANDROID EXPERT EITHER and will never claim to be, but I am not saying it is a limited-resources issues, what I am saying is that I believe the default settings will allow the governor to throttle down to below the level necessary to play music without skipping... I could be wrong, but that it what it looks like to me.)
Because SO MANY people APPARENTLY don't have MOST of the issues mentioned, I personally think this is highly related to which ROM you are using... though I don't know what ROM those other people are using...

Modem WiFi issues and low battery performance issue on oreo b02

I finally decided to go public with my issues after trying to figure this out by myself for months. this is about wifi issues with the modem (any app that is loading something online, can't do anything because the phone doesn't send any up or download commands) and performance problems when the battery gets low (i think its either bad BCL driver or hotplug driver)
Modem issues.
I will try to explain this as best as i can and also hope that im not alone on this one.
Let me first talk about nougat b08 as that was the first time i have encountered the issue (on 2.4ghz networks only). And NO this is not because of interferances in my area or bad wifi channles or anything. Also it's only happening on my axon 7 (All other devices like my laptop, console etc are fine.
i noticed that any app/game when saying "connecting" (or any other indicator) the wifi icon at the top stays blank (meaning there are no up and down arrows for a period of time). This doesn't happen always but way too frequently to be a minor issue.
Let's take a few examples:
-chrome: when i try to open sites sometimes the loading bar stays at the left. Wifi icon doesn't show any up or downloads (the previous mentioned arrows).
-Sync (reddit client): loading circle spins and spins without any indication of any real progress. Again the wifi icon doesn't show anything happening either)
-XDA Labs: same thing here as in Sync.
-any game with internet connection required: Same thing again.
This often results in a connection error or timeout.
Reminder that this was while i was on nougat b08. This issue never happend in 5ghz but as i mentioned previously, this is not because of any 2.4 ghz interferances etc. here is why:
i fixed the whole issue by flashing the nougat b10 modem. Now the issue was fixed and i never ran into it again until Oreo b02.
This time tho the issue persists on both wifi bands (5ghz and 2.4ghz). The issues are exactly the same as in nougat b08 apart from 5ghz being affected now as well. Flashing the oreo b03 modem doesn't do anything since its the exact same. I also tried flashing the nougat b10 up to b12 modems but the nougat modems seem to break Calls. when i had the nougat modems installed on oreo, i couldn't hear the other person and they couldn't hear me. But they did fix the wifi issue (just tested again with nougat b10 modem)
so yeah thats the issue i have currently with the modems wifi stuff. i hope my explanation was somewhat understandable.
Low Battery Performance issue (starting between 50 and 40% battery left
Now this one is weird as idk what the real culprit is. I think its either a bad BCL driver or a bad Hotplugging driver.
Here is some info on BCL by @Infy_AsiX : https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/degraded-battery-bcl-device-lag-t3752545
Now if you have read the linked BCL post, you should know that the device throttles the cpu if the voltage hits a certain low threshold which decreases performance big time.
I gotta say that my battery isn't degraded. Like not at all (aside from very little which is natural with any battery that gets older and older).
But the Voltage never drops below the 3.2-3.3 Volt threshold. in fact my voltage is over 3.5+ Volt at 15% battery left. fully charged its over 4.
The time when the phone starts to lag is around 50 to 40% remaining battery. the voltage there is around 3.7+ Volt which should not trigger the BCL to throttle my device.
So maybe the BCL driver is buggy i thought, so i tried disabling it through the shell but it stays/resets to enabled. So perhaps its locked by the kernel. i also tried editing the thresholds but they reset right after to their original value as well. rebooting doesn't help this. AND YES my device is rooted with the system write protection disabled so thats not the issue as i can freely modify any system file.
So i can't say for sure if BCL is buggy. If it isnt than its definetly not the culprit because i never hit the thresholds for it to start throttling in the first place.
And about Hotplugging, im not really sure if this is the culprit either. I only know that it can disable a certain number of cores at various scenarios which depends on how ZTE configured it. And idk how i can disable it through shell commands. If thats possible at all.
I will edit this post multiple times probably tomorrow (and will post a reply when i updated the OP and what i added) as im really tired. So bare with me for now if i couldn't explain something as good (and any possible typos)
I have also weird issues, does this look normal?it can't be ,it sit on 6% for like 20minutes now

Idk. But this isn't the same issue i described in the op. In the op i was talking about low battery performance issues which cause the device to lag heavily. Not about inaccurate percentages

are you sure modem = wifi? I really don't know, but I think they are separate, i.e. the modem file is probably only for cell connectivity
The battery stuff is a mess, but it's probably BCL... It was very badly set on stock G firmware when I had my G. Does your phone turn off if you set a very high CPU load like Gcam pics?

I think so at least since in nougat b08 i fixed that issue by using the nougat b10 modem.
It could also be that its just for cell connectivity like u said. But then is the question why it still interferes with wifi somehow.
About bcl. My phone never turned off. Yeah i tried getting a high load on cpu through various apps (like gcam, games, benchmark). But they all lag like hell because of some throttle on cpu and gpu. Not thermal throttling though as this only happens on the mentioned percentages (40-50%). And the voltages are not hitting the thresholds either

This thread is about stock oreo though. Not pie.
And 3.7+ voltage is perfectly fine and healthy for your battery at 10%.
I suggest you make your own thread with all the issues you encounter on your setup (rom, kernel etc) and try to give an explanation as detailed as possible.

No,but i was planning to flash the EAS version right now lol.
I did a clean flash ion gsi with hellsgate reborn sinister eas and the problem looks gone,or maybe not.Happens random but less then on bootleggers.
Clean flashed again latest bootleggers with schwifty r5 kernel and speedy vendor 5.1.Wifi also just random disconnects. But one thing i notice now,i charged my battery to 100% and unplugged it,it stays at 100%.Rebooted to twrp for transfer some files to my phone and it still sits on 100%.Booted system and still at 100%.I think its odd because most of the time when i unplug at 100 it drops directly to 99%.

okay thanks, and sorry. We need a thread we can discuss everything
Finally found a command that works to disable bcl. Now gotta test for a few days if it solved the low battery performance issue.
I will update the OP once i confirmed it working
For anyone interested in trying it out (for stock oreo only!):
Requirements:
-you need to be rooted of course
-Selinux must be set to permissive. Otherwise terminal emulator doesn't work
-terminal emulator app (on playstore). Im using material terminal emulator
Type in:
su
echo -n disable > /sys/devices/soc/soc:qcom,bcl/mode
Don't reboot. This will revert the changes since those are kernel files (which are not real since they are temporary virtual files) and get loaded a new everytime at startup.
In short: bcl gets enabled again
Sidenote: most results after googling for disabling bcl all had false commands. Every one i found had the "-n" missing inside the command. At last an xda post for a sony xperia phone, had the right command. Funny how the only thing that was missing was entering "-n" after "echo"
Short update: Yes BCL was the culprit in my case and disabling it helped the low battery performance issue i was having. Also no sudden shutdowns for me (since my battery isn't degraded that much as previously stated). If you experience sudden shutdowns, don't worry. BCL gets re-enabled at every boot.
As for the wifi issues, i still haven't found a way to solve this problem.
Will edit the OP later.
Update on the bcl matter: right now it actually does seem my battery is degrading. The voltage readings jump up and down which shouldn't be happening. Perhaps this is the reason i thought my battery was fine since the voltage was fine when i checked it. But in reality it often jumps down and up randomly. This started to happen more often since yesterday
Disabling bcl worked without issues at first. But today i noticed that my battery has problems if i disable bcl. The percentage jumps down way too quick. It jumped from full charge to around 47% and stayed at that percentage for over an hour even tho i was actively using my phone (while the real percentage should have been higher since it hadn't used 53% in such a short time). So i guess the bcl lag i was experiencing was infact first symptoms of degradation of by battery.
I also had my first sudden shutdown at 9%
Its not certain tho yet. I ordered a new battery. Gonna replace it and then i will see if that really was the issue

Wow well i guess this answers that question (see screenshot)
1768mah at full charge. So yep, im so gonna change my battery
Battery health 56%...almost half.
Edit: i know accubattery is not THE most accurate way to show the actual degradation. But its a rough estimate. So the actual capacity could be slightly higher or lower. Nevertheless, it's still clear my battery is clearly degraded by now.
