[Q] Good volts and screen settings please? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've searched for hours for this topic on google and I've tried a lot of the presets people are using for their N4 but man, it just doesn't work with mine unless mine is different? Whenever I use the presets of other people who claim it to be good, my N4 just stutters or just crashes and restarts. It also says many apps and even franco kernel updater has stopped working every like 30 seconds. Its annoying and not normal. I want good presets for the best battery life without performance loss and I would like good screen settings too. Much appreciated guys, thanks.
Cheers.

Don't put so much importance on voltage. I'm only undervolted by -50mv and I have awesome battery life. I can try to get my screen settings up a bit later, I've calibrated it to match my n7 as closely possible. I'm fast binned and anything at or over -100mv causes mass instability for me, it sounds like you might be in the same situation.

Thanks. May you please show me your voltage settings please?

leedroid lag?

Hi, I've just flashed leedroid but I seem to be suffering with some small amount of lag that I didn't experience on the stock Rom..... when I open messages or emails for example there is a small pause, and u can visibly see the screen refresh. I never suffered with this this beforehand. Also I have noticed that I'm getting some lag when changing certain settings, the leedeoid Icon pops up whilst its thinking..... now, so far I haven't gotten around to installing the LeeDrOiD Ace V2.2.5 R2 Kernel, is that likely to fix my little issue?
Cheers
Steve
After flashing, have you done another reboot? Sometimes I find a new ROM doesn't settle until I've rebooted a couple of times. Give it a try and see how it feels then report back either way
Let it bed in steve, should have dropped this in the rom thread

Thanks for the reply Lee, but as citizenlee said, I'm unable to post in that section at present.
So far i still seem to be having the slow refresh issue on sms and emails, do u think that the fact I haven't flashed the Ace V2.2.5 R2 Kernel yet could be part of the issue? I'm certainly going to try flashing it to see if it helps..... I know know you've put a heck of a lot of work into this and believe me it is appreciated, just hope I can get it working as well as it was intended.
You could try the kernel... and failing that a full wipe and reflash of the ROM should sort you out
problem

dear lee i have installed your PERFECT rom 2.2 1.8 ghz
but it has frozen 2 times the screen and after rebooting it stays frozen...?
this also happened with coredroid ..any suggestions my friend?
regards(i am new here^^)
Ok, i think i got to the bottom of my lag problems. I have been playing around with set cpu today. I think the minimum speed of 245mhz in smartass was too low and was causing the lag (usually when waking the phone from screen off) I have now changed settings to 'ondemand' with a minimum speed of 245mhz and maximum of 1344mhz but i also created a 'screen off' profile with a working range of 245mhz to 576mhz which seems to give it a bit more poke when waking from screen off No more lag! ( i still have the visible refresh issue i mentioned, maybe i'm imagining that one though, maybe it did do it on the stock rom but i didn't take note of it....??)
So, i really have no idea if i've done the right thing with the way i have set up setcpu so if anyone would care to comment on the settings i've used please do so.
Many thanks again for all the help.
Steve

[Q] Stop Overclocking?

I have cyanogenmod gingerbread android on my HD2 but when I play games the phone gets very hot quickly, after about 5 mins. Is there any way I can set CPU speed lower or any other way to stop it getting so hot. Works fine when just browsing or with windows.
Thanks
cant you set profiles using setcpu?
Thanks for the reply, would that solve the issue?
Everyone's processor is different so we can't answer that, won't hurt to try though eh?
$1 gets you a reply
In cm7 builds,,,, settings, cyanogenmod settings, performance, CPU settings.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I put setcpu on and it looks to be working great, Is 37C battery temp ok when playing games on the phone?

Why does my DZ fail me when I need it the most

Now I love my DZ; it is by far the most capable phone I've ever owned, but it has this nasty habit of failing me whenever I seem to need it the most.
For example, today I was stuck behind a huge accident on the highway with an exit coming up in a few feet. I thought, "hey I'll just see if I can find a detour around it from this exit." Pulled out my phone and quickly launched google maps. right then, it completely stops responding to all touch input; the trackpad and physical buttons work fine, but nothing was registering on the touchscreen or capacitive buttons. I eventually had to pull the battery to fix the issue.
It just seems that these things tend to happen whenever i need to lookup something quickly on the phone (when im just screwing around on it, it works perfectly fine) be it completely not responding to touch input, or something weird happening like getting stuck between 2 homescreens, or the notification panel gets stuck halfway down, or massive input lag (5+ seconds) to the point of it not being usable.
And everything goes back to normal after a reset; but by then, I usually don't need to lookup whatever it was anymore.
The most frustrating part is that I can't seem to figure out whats causing it. I'm running virtuous 2.0.0 without any sense 3 additions, and I generally only have 1 or 2 tasks going on on the phone at once (usually just music player + whatever I'm doing). I originally thought it was just a performance issue, so I've increased the clock up to 1.5ghz (using daemon controller) but it hasn't has of an effect.
Any ideas on what else i can try?
Sounds like simple bad karma, I suggest donating to a charity or going to church
Other than that, I'd have no idea, sorry. Seeing as its not totally regular, there'd be no good way to easily pinpoint the issue. Maybe see if the rom produces a last_kmsg?

although people say roms are 'stable' and can recommend these ROMs as "dd" (daily drivers) you cannot say that will be completely reliable. This is because when people say a ROM is 'stable', it's only after using it for 2-3days; unfortunately, roms gather clutter and begin to slow down over time. Not a problem for many flashaholics, but a problem if you're a one-rom kinda guy (or girl). So if you're not one-night-stand rom kind of person, here are some tips:
Reset your phone regularly. Phones start acting funny when they've been on for too long
Try stock ROM with addons flashed on top of it, rather than baked in a new rom
Most reliable roms i've experienced are Stock Gingerbread or CyanogenMod. Try those
If you are flashing a new rom, use SuperWipe, this can help get rid of clutter from old roms

Hmm, so you believe that this is purely a rom issue?
I havent run a stock rom for a while, but from what i remember the experience wasnt that pleasant, there was significant lag almost everywhere in the ui. Although i will admit that was back with froyo; i havent tried a stock gb stock rom yet.
Ill probablygive cm7 a go. Ive just grown so used to some sense features that its going to be hard for me to give them up (mainly recent apps in notifications, news widget, t9 dailer+manually linking contacts, and remote ring and forward on htcsense.com)
Has anyone had similar issues running virtuous sense 2.0.0?
As far as recent apps goes, long pressing the home button is a standard feature of android that brings up the most recent. Stock is the last 8 (I think) cm7 can show 15.

Higher overclocking will make your phone LESS stable, not more. I'd stick around 1 GHz, as this is known to be very stable on most Z's, and usually does not result in any significant additional battery drain. OC may not have anything to do with your random hangs, but its probably not helping either.

I'd agree. I really wouldn't ever go over 1.2ghz for a daily driver personally.
I run my ROMs at 800mhz lol, so I don't see the advantage of a huge overclock unless you're just bragging about benchmark scores.
its funny when u wanna show off your phone and you take it out of your pocket acting all cool and stuff and when u press the power button it wont wake up or you get a blank screen
haha its just bad karma for u like nipqer said
Try the stock pre-rooted gingerbread...I just flashed t last week and it is way faster than my froyo was, and amazing battery life, for me anyways, I do have an extended life battery though lol. Anyways as far as speed it is snappy on 800 mhz

I've noticed the random hangs / glitches @ 800Mhz and 1Ghz, so I'm hesitant to say that the OC is the cause.
What do you use for stability testing? I've been running quadrant nonstop to test new OCs, but I don't think that benchmark stresses the cpu enough.
i am running Virtuous v2.0.0 w/ kernel unity v6 on it on desire z.
i've found bugs like
1/the top black bar ui, top left corner, some times i see the background wallpaper rather than the black bar. but it goes away if i pull down the notifications.
2/ the mail with microsoft exchange active sync, if i delete the mail it will automatically resync and downloads all mail including the on i deleted. but i got around that by using pop/imac instead.
all rather minor as i got ways to go around it.
i did have a similar issue where the touch screen goes unresponsive and i had to force close it, restart phone to get it back alive. but then i readjusted the clock speed and never had it happened again.
the phone is at around 825mhz with governor smart ass on wake time max, unless im watching 720p movies on the phone then i ramp it up at 1.4ghz.
sleep time on 368mhz max with governor at conservative.
i had it on like this since 11/09/11 (as i made a rom backup) and it never occured yet.

I've been playing with the wake min and wake gov settings the past few days. I have it set at 600Mhz min, performance gov; I haven't noticed much difference in the battery life, but I'll have to do more extensive testing to be sure.
Performance feels slightly better, especially after a fast wake. can anyone give a detailed explanation of the behavior of the different gov settings? I can't seem to find much info on it.

GApps on Rooted LG V20

Does anybody know if we are able to flash any other versions of GApps on the rooted LG V20?
My V20 is from AT&T and since day one it has had terrible battery life. Where I was able to use my Note7 or Droid Turbo all day and still have battery left, the V20 eats the battery charge like Sally Struthers in a See's Candy warehouse. I mean, I have to charge this thing at least 2 times a day when I use it to search the web or any battery intensive purposes. I never had this problem on any other phone. I have been trying to find ways to improve my battery. I used Rom Toolbox Pro to disable all kinds of stuff, and it worked great, until my phone started Grand Mal seizing giving me the Google Play Services has to close notifications, which I then had to factory reset just to get my phone working properly again.
I would like to try flashing a minimal version of GApps that pretty much just has the play store and play store services. Are we able to do this on our V20's without having any issues? If you have any input at all I would really appreciate it.
IMHO it must be an app or two you have installed draining your battery like that. On a full charge I can a whole day and a little in to the next. I am a heavy user too. Are you blasting the brightness at 100% all the time? If so auto brightness will help a little. Go in to setting and see what is using that much drain

I was thinking it might be something I installed, as well. But I can't seem to pinpoint any apps that might be causing the battery drain. I keep the screen on auto brightness like you mentioned so it shouldn't be the screen. GSam almost always shows the Android System and Kernel (Android OS) at the top of the list of battery-draining apps. I love the phone, I just cannot figure out what is going on. I mean, I am not doing anything different than I have on my previous phones, and the V20 seems to be working fine. I thought maybe it is something with Nougat. I will gladly post some pics of app usage or data if it might help figure this problem out.

What rom are you on? Are you on stock white theme? I'm running a dark theme, which can help save a little juice. I'm also running as many team blackout apps as I can (many Google apps) to avoid all the whiteness. Just throwing out some ideas.

Interesting! I have never heard of Team Blackout Apps, they look pretty nice! Yes, I am on the stock ROM just the way it comes. I haven't changed anything at all. I have barely installed any apps just to see if I can find what is causing the battery to drain. Are there any other ROMs that work with the AT&T variant of the LG V20? It seems like they haven't made any yet for the AT&T V20. I am still waiting for Xposed to be released that is compatible with nougat so I can use Amplify.

I don't think there are any roms for AT&T variant atm. I did see an AT&T user flashed the stock deodexed rom by tilde88 in rom section. Not sure of all the details though. I'm assuming you would lose some functionality...would need to flash stock kernel as well.
What is your leading source of battery drain under system usage?

Yeah definitely, I think it is a little bit too early, for me at least, to expetiment with a deodexed ROM. But I know there will be some awesome developments coming out soon. I was so happy to see that a root was figured out for the V20 so quickly after it was released. Until then, I will keep experimenting with the stock ROM.

Hi Swizzle82, thank you for the reply. It is kind of difficult for me to pinpoint what the leading source of battery drain is because the apps seem to bunch all detected processes and wakelocks together. I know that Call Services & Android System show up on top a lot of the time, but since I factory reset the phone today, the stats are minimal compared to what I previously had. WeChat also uses resources, but I used that app all the time on my Note7 and previous phones, even more than I do now, and it never caused a problem. I attached some screenshots from GSam, BetterBatteryStats, Wakelock Detector, and CPU Spy Reloaded., I don't know if they will help, but just switching between those few apps and taking some screenshots over the span of 6 minutes, my battery percentage dropped from 79% to 76%.

I had android system for a while killing me.. I factory reset and setup every app one by one with no data transfer or anything. Installed every app like it's first install. I charged it til it reached 100 percent, with the phone plugged in, I went to data/system/batterystars.bin and deleted that file and rebooted. It was a long process but it hasn't been an issue since. This was when the phone first came out last month. Never knew which apps data it was but it is gone now.

That sounds like a good idea to try. I will do this today since I already factory reset it yesterday. I would rather do it now before I get further into using it again. I have not heard about this until you mentioned it so maybe there is an issue with app transfers with the V20 causing it. The battery does seem to drain less than before, but it seems like there are still some issues. Thank you for the suggestion!

If you followed did the dirtysanta method, make sure you flash the Konverged kernel for the H918. Or Tilde88's 5.1 kernel for the H918. It worked wonders on improving battery life. Also make sure you disable Lookout - that drains a lot of battery it seemed to me at least. I usually get about a day and a half of battery life when I use my normal amount (which is honestly quite a bit).

Okay, thanks for letting me know! I have not even looked at those kernels thinking they weren't cross compatible with H910. I am going to try it right now with the dirtysanta method. No, I had the Note7 before getting the LG V20. Before that I had a Note 4 and a Droid Turbo. This is my first LG phone and I really do love it. I actually like it more than the Note7, the only problem I have is the battery. I do think that factory resetting and manually installing the apps instead of restoring them will help, and using the Konverged kernel seems promising, from what I am reading.

Yup I always start fresh and install apps manually anytime I reset my phone. I think it's always nice to start fresh - even if it is sometimes a bit inconvenient to go through all the apps you've installed and choosing which ones to install. Hopefully you get it all sorted out!

Okay, I just factory reset the phone, rooted it with DirtySanta, and flashed the Konverged kernel and the phone is NOTICEABLY faster and smoother! This is great! Each time I reset the phone, it had noticeable lag. I just figured it would go away over time, which it did, and that it was because it had to load and download everything since it was fresh. But with the Konverged kernel, it has none of the lag and is silky smooth! Time to manually install the apps I want and disable some stuff I don't need. I will update you guys after I see how the battery is with the new setup Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate all the input!:good:
I need your help! I changed the screen cover sensor to off not realizing that I would not be able to turn off the static after rebooting my phone since the sensor is off. Would somebody please post a few screenshots showing how to navigate to the screen sensor settings so I can tap my way there and turn it back on? I am trying but there is no way to tell where to tap with all the static. Thank you!
Nevermind, I fixed it! I finally navigated to the second screen settings and turned it off when the screen is off and that got rid of the static after I turned the screen off then on again. Note to self, never do that again LOL.

Get me your stock system.img and boot.img, and I'll make you a modded ROM with a custom kernel!

Haha yeah, I never knew something like that could cause such a huge problem. Now I can't seem to find what I did to cause that in the first place. I have been looking through all of the settings and can't seem to find anything that affects the proximity sensor. On top of that, the screen rotation stopped working, it will not rotate when I turn the phone to the side to type. I have toggled all of the motion and second screen settings, calibrated the motion sensor, and nothing is affecting it. When I turn the main screen off, the sensor does not shut off the second screen when I cover it with my finger, and the phone does not recognize when I rotate the screen. I am kind of at a loss on how to fix it.

Low Performance on Stock ROM

Hello to everyone. I'm using version B35. But other versions have the same problem. Often the performance is very low when the charge goes down. Performance is selected from the power manager, but I am still experiencing this problem. I think it's related to Kernel, but I can not find a solution. I am sure everyone is having this problem. Can you find a solution?

Don't be so sure... I've been using Simple Planes @ max settings and with about 5% battery, and never got below 40-50 fps which is what i always get
Try other governors maybe? Like conservative? I usually find it better than Interactive for performance, especially concerning frame drops, as ironic as that may sound
