Hidden SSID issue - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Hi
my Mi A1 has Oreo latest build with Magisk root.
I have an hidden SSID (in my case is a 5GhZ, but I don't think it matters) and I can't connect to it.
I have added into the Wifi connections with all the correct parameters, but then I can't connect.
With a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, everything is fine as well with other Android products I have.
If I unhide the SSID everything works without any change on the Mi A1.
Anyone with same issue?
Thanks

I have opo device with Oreo, I did found only one solution:
1- add my network manually (hidden SSID also ip config if DHCP disabled)
2- install "WiFi Manager" app
3- open "WiFi Manager" app and tap on saved network and it will be connect.
Note: every time you disconnect from wifi you have to use "WiFi Manager" app, BIG Thanks GOOGLE Oreo!!!

When you input the parameters for the hidden SSID network, select static IP, advanced, input IP, subnet, gateway and DNS (same dns and gateway), select "is hidden" and it works. It worked for me, I have Xiaomi Mi A1 and after the update to Android Pie I had the same problem.

wifi proxy settings

Hi guys,
Well I have searched everywhere and found nothing.
Well my college has wifi but it uses a proxy to access the internet.
So in Internet explorer on my desktop/laptop there is a direct option in the lan settings to specify a proxy ip and prot.
how do i do the same for my xda2s running 5.0.
thanks
Hello,
The way to go about doing this is to set up a proxy server under Start> Setings>Connections>Connections. Under My Work Network, select "Set Up My Proxy Server" and check the boxes for "This Network connects to the internet" and "this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet". Click on the "advanced" setting which should open up a window where you can choose your proxy port and enter your port address & numbers. Note when using pass through or any other connection that doesnt use the same proxy, make sure you turn your proxy port settings off (by unchecking the "this NW uses proxy port" check box). I hope this solves your problem.
Alternatively, a solution I've found which works is to use Opera Mobile - you can specify an HTTP and/or HTTPS proxy to use (in the form of hostname/iport) and then when you connect it just asks you to authenticate against it and boom: you're good to go.
No more faffing about with My Work Network, half the time I could never get connectivity with my Alpine when I did it like that (which meant it tried to dial up to the GPRS)... However if I'm not using Opera for one reason or another, I will use the My Work Network method with my TyTn. Both ways work just as well, I just think the Opera solution is neater because you can just set all your wifi networks as 'connects to the Internet'.

i think it may work
it worked for me

[Q] Connecting to an ad-hoc WiFi network

I am trying to connect to an ad-hoc WiFi network, but it seems like the general instructions for this don't apply on the WIldfire, since there is no tiwlan.ini just to start.
Has anyone succeeded in connecting to an ad-hoc network? The only WiFi network I can use at the moment is an ad-hoc one, so I have no choice...
Confusing question. First you said cannot, then you said you can. BTW what specifically is meant by ad-hoc network?

I am not saying I can connect to an ad-hoc network, where do you read that?
I read somewhere that you can't connect to ad-hoc networks yet. I can't either.
Peraphs your wireless card supports Managed (Ap) mode ?
I just got it working:
* Add your ad hoc network via Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi settings -> Add Wi-Fi network
* add the line "ap_scan=2" to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
* add the line "mode=1" to your network's section in /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Your final result will look like this:
Code:
ctrl_interface=eth0
update_config=1
ap_scan=2
network={
ssid="Ad Hoc"
mode=1
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
priority=41
}
This gives me a working connection. I don't know if this is a permanent solution, I haven't tried it out after a reboot, but for now it is enough for me.
how do you do that? i tryied byt isn't working. i set up adhoc wifi, but in wildfire seems to be out of range even if i'm near laptop
I am using software Connectify. Setup Connectify into the PC. Turn on wifi. Next ... next ... You must click on the Connection icon in your taskbar at the bottom. Select Open Network and Sharing Center. Click Connections wifi. Choose Details. You should see the IPv4 Address.
Then open your phone, press Menu -> Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Open and select Wi-Fi WiFi Settings -> Select the broadcast station name that you noted above, type the password and click Connect. Then press Menu -> Advanced -> Check Use static IP entries
IP address: x.x.x.y type (using the same IP range x.x.x.x means that the first three numbers, the other end of the IP v4)
Gateway: x.x.x.x (as in the ip address v4)
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
DNS1: 8.8.8.8
DNS2: 8.8.4.4
thanks a lot, i finally got to connect to my adhoc... still, internet sharing is not working
Whats all this hassle with messing files?
I just wen't to CyanoGenMod, started the ad-hoc network with my notebook (win7), connected my Wildfire and its working like a charm.
"I just got it working:

Hi Cumulus007.
How you changed this file?
I have changed the file in PC and copy to wildfire via sdcard, so I have bricked the wireless and used Recovery setings from factory.
Then I ask for the process you have used.
Thanks in avance.

Static IP on Nexus Q

Has anyone figured out how to set a static IP on the Nexus Q? I have not unlocked my Q yet, but I am planning on doing so since my network only supports static IPs. Has anyone taken a crack at it yet or will I be blazing a trail here?
It's very easy:
If you cannot connect to your wifi network automatically you need to do it manually, if you can do automatically, just jump these steps:
1. go to system settings
2. click on wifi
3. click on add network
4. enter your network ssid
5. choose your security
6. enter your password for you network
7. click save
After that you network is set you need to long press (long mouse click) on the network name and it will show you 2 options: "Forget network" and "Modify network"
1. Click "Modify network", roll the screen a little
2. Mark the "Show advanced options" checkbox, roll more
3. Change the IP settings to "Static" and do your show
4. Click save and have fun.
Cheers!

Tethering WIFi doesn't share internet connection

Hi,
i have this problem:
when ativate Tethering wifi the Mi A1 isn't able to share internet connection. The other device see the hotspot, connected to it, but there is no internet connection...!?
Any solution to fix this?
Same problem, havent solved yet...
Hi, I also thought tethering was not working, however only the dynamic DNS server provided by the Mi A1 does not work.
Simply set a static DNS server (Google's one 8.8.8.8 or others) on your tethered device and it works.
It's another bug that needs to be corrected in the firmware, but at least it can be simply circumvented.

Xiaomi mi a1 with Android 7.1.2
Is there any other fix? Or is it fixed in the Oreo update?
Thanks,
Adao
I have OREO version in my A1 and also have this issue with the hotspot DNS. I have to manually set the clientes to use static IP and setup 8.8.8.8 as the DNS.
I have reported this issue using the app that comes with the phone, the one from Xiaomi to send feedback.
Let's see what the next update brings to us.

Thanks Adam_Manson!!!!
I solved the issue using that post recommendation, can't believe I spend months dealing with that and the solution was that easy!
I copy/paste the solution here so we have it here at XDA too:
"On your problem with tethering, what you need to do is use the sp.mb.com APN, but add 'dun' to the APN type field. In other words the APN type field should be default,mms,dun,supl. That should resolve your tethering problem"

Weirdly, it doesn't seem to work for me while the adb shell "settings put global tether_dun_required 0" does
delete
