How do you upgrade to Oreo from Beta 4 on Snapdragon? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I've seen a lot of posts and discussion on how to upgrade from Exynos, but I have a T-Mobile G950U. I am on build ZQKS. How do I go about upgrading?

Flash BQL1 firmware, then flash CRB2 from Samsung.firmware.science
Download the update.zip to your sd card, boot to recovery, flash from there. The latest is CRB3 but battery drain is terrible, but these are the latest Oreo builds for our device

I'm reading currently that Oreo final has not been rolled out in US yet. Should I wait until it is and then follow the same instructions to update to it?

It "should" be out by the end of this month, you can if you want. But it'll be OTA when it's final. So if you're on Verizon BQL1 you'll get a system update and it'll do it like that, there won't be any need to use recovery or that website.
It's up to you though, I've been running Oreo for the last month and it's been pretty good so far, SOT is around 6 hours and performance is great. Substratum just sucks is all.

Do you use Hydrogen for yourself?
I'm a Chinese user. Be aware that Hydrogen OS do not permit OTA if you root! That means you are stuck on the current version of Hydrogen with all OTA failling to install. You will have to flash the full package following every update. So I do not recommend Hydrogen OS.

Not at the moment but if my EU variant doesn't get the 150807 update soon I may give it a try.

Yeah, sounds like any typical BBK ROM (Vivo, Oppo) in that rooted ROMs won't OTA.
However, I do remember temporarily fastbooting TWRP on my Find 5 and Find 7 then dirty flashing over the previous ROM. Sometimes it'd not like it and hang to the point of needing a full wipe anyway.

Dirty flash is a good solution. However there are folks in Chinese supporting forum warning the full update package clears everything except internal storage. So you may want a backup or modification on the script before dirty flash. just in case.
DO NOT FLASH THE ZIP!
i flashed it and now i get a locked bootloader, twrp is gone and the phone doesn't start up.

1 question.
possible to share step by step how to FLASH back from oxygen OS to Hydrogen OS?
thanks.
Oneplus Two without root.
I had flashed successfully flashed hydrogenOS n had also successfully update through OTA an update
Mine is a China set on OxygenOS. So those who said one cannot update it through OTA could be mistaken
My phone is rooted
Anyone tested this Rom? And the new version? Please post your reviews and possibly some screenshots if you can.
Thanks in advance
It's awesome. It's a way more smoother then oxygen os. Battery life also awesome, no lags by using the home button. It'd rly great. What u want to see as Screenshot?

For the moment I dont see any ota, it's possible that u don't get ota.. But maybe it's related to deactivated apps. Will report when I see a ota.

Finally got the real 7.1.1. For the z play droid!

As of 3:45 a.m. this morning I couldn't believe what I was seeing thanks Verizon it's about time still messing around with it (7.1.1.) I'll let you know how it goes like it so far oh yeah I'm on the east coast S.C. THANKS AGAIN AND GOD BLESS EVERYONE!!!
Downloading right now.
Mike
I'm in the United States and I got 7.1.1 last night ?
got it today also
Yep, it's finally here, downloading.
Update 7.1.1 is here on RETEU
Just got the 7.1.1 OTA for the Moto Z Play on RETEU
Will keep you posted as soon as installed and tested
Just downloading 7.1.1. in Germany
I'm doing the 7.1.1 update in France
I'm here on April patch RETEU, but I'm rooted, with custom kernel and modified system.
What is the safe way to install the 7.1 OTA? I've already been notified about it.
Safe way is to flash everything from bootloader with a full package... OTA is to be avoided if you modified system and recovery.

Safest way is to flash my 7.1.1 stock rom, if you decide you don't like 7.1.1 you can safely move back or forth to any rom. Taking the OTA means you can't or should downgrade or you could end up hard bricked.

Yeah, I see. But the latest avaible full RETEU firmware is NPN25.137-24-1 and flashing this is not safe. Can I flash RETAIL april patch instead?
Got the update too but is your home button with Google animation? Mine turned into pixel home button 2 hours after the update

System update

I'm on NPN25. 137-33. Flashed back to my stock backup for various reasons, am now getting a notification for whatever update is available.....a couple of things. How do I disable the update? And is there a stock rom of the latest build available for the US variant that's TWRP flashable? I don't see it. I was on the stock debloated rom which seemed fine but I couldn't get it to root with superuser or magisk.

Yes u need to flash through twrp... And I think its rootable
.67 is for the Indian G5+, but works on the US variant (RETUS). .35-5 is the most current firmware and .43 is for Verizon users (fixes call/VoLTE issues) of RETUS but is a March security patch instead of May like .35-5. The .67 has a different kernel source and March security patch. I'd go with .35-5. It's available here. But none of these are flashable through TWRP. You can fastboot though...

I believe the one posted above linked via gdrive is flashable through TWRP and was created by @GtrCraft and is based off RETIN or RETUE. You loose TWRP, but fastboot it right back.
I was just trying to help answer your original question about the most up to date RETUS firmware. Moto has made it difficult to track with all the variants.

Thanks for all. What is the fasboot command to flash a zip?
My apologies if this isn't the right place to ask, but the discussion seems to be right in line with my issue. I'm running -35 (RETUS), rooted (SuperSU) and TWRP. I got the notification to update yesterday, and being partly distracted by screaming kids, I accepted.
It, of course, failed. But more importantly, now any power/boot cycle dumps me into TWRP every time. The only way back to the OS is to boot to bootloader and click "start". I honestly could care less about the security update (as I'm sure a TWRP friendly version is on the horizon). But having to go through the bootloader to simply power up/reboot the phone is a royal PITA.
Is there a quick fix to the hook that seems to redirect to the recovery? As bad as that is, I'd live with it if it means I don't have to wipe and start from scratch.

I'd start from scratch and make a backup of your current now, flash stock .35-5 that I linked above with RSDlite (update if on Verizon - your choice), fastboot TWRP again and restore. I accidentally did it with .35 and this was the process I did to get out of bootloop recovery hell. Hope that helps...
I posted the .43 update if you don't get the update and required it for Verizon.

Can I install this ROM?

So I found this on the XDA home page. It says SM-935A is required (I have SM-935U) BUT I thought that model number mostly applies to which carrier you're using...So if I flash the lates AT&T version via Odin can I then update to this Oreo build? Here's the article:

But in case I change my mind, you extract the update.zip and apply update from sdcard, right?

How to update to PIE official (unlocked Bootloader with TWRP)

Guys today morning I got the OTA UPDATE to PIE. I am currently on v340 with an unlocked bootloader and TWRP already installed.
Should I go with the OTA update? Will it cause any errors?

Stay on oreo, pie is a disappointment over oreo in many ways, like BB reduced, sound quality reduced, no night light and most important you can't play PUBG in HD and many more.
If you really want to taste pie then you can use custom pie roms otherwise stay on stock oreo.

To install any rom using twrp you must download the rom and place it in your storage
Then boot into twrp
Click on install and and browse to your file click on it and flash it...
You can also do clean flash by wiping your sytem and data before flashing....
I saved update file on SD card, restarted mobile and update proces itself started.
Everything was fine.
