Hello all.New user here. So i have an lg v20. About a year old now, unrooted. So it runs fine but whenever i install an app, either from the play store or out, the app installs and then a key icon appears in the notification panel and this cuts out my internet. Both the wifi and mobile data do not work. Once i restart the device, the key disappears and the internet works until i install an app again. Any help would be appreciated.Thank you.

Well the key icon means a VPN is active and I'm sure that's why your internet doesn't work after. Do you have any sketchy apps installed?

Thanks for the reply. Well i do have a vpn installed but i dont know why that would activate and cut off the internet....And yes i have a couple of sketchy apps but they work fine for other users though...Strange thing is that when i do activate my vpn, i can access the internet again and the key still remains. My vpn uses a different symbol than the key though. Once i deactivate the vpn, the internet is unavailable again

Depending on where you got your VPN and your apps I would suggest uninstalling all of them and downloading only from trusted sources and devs.

Hey,
I have a G4 Wizard, Model Wiza100(With a Camera). I'm using a generic MDA Windows Mobile v6 rom. I recently bought this phone off a friend, mine broke and I didn't want to pay 100s for a rather crappy go phone. I do not have the Data Plan for AT&T and was wondering if there was a way to configure my wizard to NEVER automatically connect to the internet. I'd also like to find a way to have it be able to browse while connected to wifi. Thanks guys, -Strife
Bumb. Any help guys?
Go into start, settings, connections, tap manage existing connections, general tab and tap delete settings. I think this should remove internet connections settings and you wont be able to connect.
Your phone shouldn't connect to gprs anyway unless you open your web browser or other app (like weather program) without being connected to wifi
Sweet, thanks man. I never really need to use the internet on my phone, I was just skeptical of downloading weather addons and such because I didn't want it to access the internet. Also, everytime I let someone use my phone they end up opening internet explorer anyways. I guess we will see the bill at the end of the month, but this should stop it. Thanks again.

Then download apps that let YOU decide when things get updated.
Also, you could try using NoData from MoDaCo (free registration on site required to see/download attachments). Pay attention to their warnings, though: you must have GPRS settings installed for it to work
It'll basically render GPRS inoperable unless you absolutely NEED it, then you just run NoData again, and enable GPRS, and Bob's your mother's sister's husband.
Sweet, thanks for the heads up. Seems like I had No Data on my phone from the MDA Rom. Alright cool, well now I know how to use No Data. Thanks again!
This is really strange. My apps can't connect to the internet when they're open, but when they're closed they have no problem. For example, my News, Email, and Finance apps show updated, current information, but when I open them they say that they can't connect. How do I fix this?

if your internet status says limited, windows only reads that and then tells the app what do to.
if your connection is limited, thats why they arent connecting
Are you using a proxy server or VPN? There are known issues with Metro apps and VPNs

I actually just tried connecting to a VPN and the connection worked! I've found that Windows 8 is somehow blocking Metro connections on private networks, but allowing them on public ones. I fixed the problem by setting my connection to Public.
Hi Guys, I have a D802 International version.
I think, there is a data sending when you connected to the Internet. It is from the Android System, I don't know what data and where it is send to.
I didn't noticed it before rooting and installed Droid Wall.
When I have my phone rooted, I blocked internet access on Android System. The first time connected to the Internet, my phone raised an error message said that there wasn't Internet access, but browsing, WA, Play Store, email, etc were okay,.
So I traced this error and found out that the error was from Android System.
Since there many packages on the Android System, I couldn't determine which one that sending the data.
On my Nexus 7, I also blocked Internet access on Android System and can connected to the internet without any problem.
Can you confirm that your phone have the same behavior? Is there any tools that can use to inspect which package that tried to sent data?
I'm using afwall+, see attachment for my para(noia) profile setup, everything needed works like that. International 802

I am using Droidwall, settings are almost the same with yours, except that I didn't give access to root - Application running as root.
It is works fine with me.
What I am talking about is Android System, this one that trying to sent something to the net, the first time you connected to the net.
In your firewall, did you give access on Android System to the net?
If so, try to block it and see what's happen then.

That's what i meant. As you can see on the screenshot i don't allow internet for the system and everything works fine. No message from system about lack of internet.
Also make sure you disable CarrierIQ from System, General, Backup and Reset, Collect Diagnostics and uncheck Allow Diagnostics.
Cheers!

When I go there the settings force close. I think i restricted that on day one with this phone but i would like to check. Don't find anything frozen in titanium or blocked in xprivacy or afwall that should cause this fc.
Also: install xposed framework and xprivacy to control which data you don't want apps that need internet to send home.

That is not what i mean. If i give internet access to root, of course, it won't be any error.
I don't wan't every apps has root access to access the net without knowing by me.
Take a look at attachment. With that setting, i still can browsing, WA, check mail, etc.
I guess, something from LG's stuffs burried in Android System trying to connect to the net, and since it has no access, err msg raised.
Except that root apps can do whatever they want even if you block them... the root thing is an old habit from when i was on 4.3 on my previous phone, under which i had to allow all rooted apps to have access to the net in order to have access at all.
Anyways, i blocked rooted apps now, rebooted and still can access the net without any error messages. Why not install afwall+ and see if it works the way you expect it to work?

Check your firewall log. On nexus 7, I didn't get err msg, but after looking the log, there are numbers of Internet access blocked.
I found it who is trying to sent/receive data from the net. It wasn't LG, it is Google.
On the log, here is one of the blocked ip address : 74.125.235.32.
See if your log recorded same address.
What the hell they are doing, spying on us the minute we connected to the net?

They take your location whenever possible and also collect data for whatever they would like. How do you think they know how many people are running each version of android and things like that

Of course they are, that's why we use firewalls, to at least try to make it a little bit harder for them.
Here's One part of what afwall blocked for me over the last. 20 minutes:

1- Root will not affect play store app in any manner.
2- Not sure what did you mean by 'home WiFi and phone WiFi'???
3- Anyway, try the following:
a) Make sure the internet connection is good. You can use any web browser to check.
b) If the Wifi is not successful, try to use data connection (G/E/3G/H/H+...)
c) Make sure the Google account is valid (user name/password)
d) Try to reboot the device.

Hi friends, i try to secure my children phones from accessing not wonted sites. At home i configured mikrotik router so there is no way to bypass restrictions. But i cannot control what they access from mobile network.
The ideal way would be to connect phone to home VPN . Is there a way to force phone use VPN so user could not just switch it off?
In that case all home network rules and restrictions would work.
If you have some ideas about it, please share.
P.S. I did it recently when noticed that 8 year old neighbor children are watching porn...
I never tried it, but you could check if "Multiple users" gives you the chance to create a low privileged user which could maybe not edit network/vpn/dns settings?
Maybe you could setup the main accounts &co from the admin user and secure it with your fingerprint, then grant your childs just the "guest" user access?
Maybe give it a try and check what those users (a new one you create or the guest one) are allowed to do and if that achieves your objective

My mother utilized Norton Family to limit what could be seen and not seen. You can also utilize the built in family link ability from google to block searches on google and app store. Link for reference: https://protectyoungeyes.com/content/android-parental-controls-complete-guide-parents/
As far as what you are asking, you could use adguard to create the persistent VPN and use their family dns set up. Once done you can always use an app locker to lock the app settings and the app itself so it can't be uninstalled.
maybe you can test an app locker. with it, they can't stop the app vpn if they haven't the code lock

You can use an APP locker to lock the settings.
If you can't access the settings you can't turn it off.

Try private dns: dns-family.adguard.com
Read here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/adguard.com/en/blog/adguard-dns-announcement/amp.html
One problem with the "lock the VPN settings" is that the VPN swithes off fairly randomly. On my phone, I set up a VPN using my home router, and connect to it while on mobile. But at random points in the day it disconnects. It's necessary to go back into VPN settings to turn it back on...

I already use opendns, it blocks everything.
I do not see option to add just dns in android. Child just installs some vpn app or connects to some wifi and restrictions does not work.
On other hand if phone is connected to home vpn, there is no way to bypass it.
My microtik bloks all proxy, vpn and routes dns to opendns.
thanks for app locker suggestion. will try it
