Hello guys and moderators, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, this is my first thread.
My question is, is it possible to mod the micro usb to type C and the retainer switch to make the original gear vr work with this phone?
Will the phone even fit? That gearvr was made for the s6 which has a different screen size/ratio so i doubt the image will look like it should with the newer gearvr's.
But with a dremmel tool its possible to make it fit, the problem is the connector itself, is it possible to mod it to a usb type C?
It would be nice to get it working since s8 compatible gear vr is a little expensive at the moment.
I think the cheapest is the R323 model

Hi guys,
there is a lot of speculation on this matter,
and it seems that after the gs3, note 2 and other devices release, the interest of this project by the developers vanished.
I want to know if there is anyone that is making progress with this matter.
Maybe some custom rom that i'm not aware of,
maybe some kernel that i'm not aware of.
At the moment it seems that the situation is really bad.
I've found an app on the store that states that "Samsung blocks usb audio devices on the S1, S2, and note 1". But they have plenty of stock phones and tablets that work with the app for a usb audio output.
I really hope that someone is trying to do something for us.
Thank you very much all
I remember there was a lot of talk about this when details of ICS first started getting leaked cause it supposedly had support for USB audio naively coded into it. I think a few people tried with a few devices but didn't have much luck and it wasn't really investigated very well afterwards (someone correct me if i'm wrong, i'm going on memory from a year ago). When the S3 dropped people tried it with a range of USB DACs and it works with many, but not all.
I've not seen anything new about the subject on here for a while, i've been looking out for it and i'd have expected it to have been big news.
Anyway, these people over at head-fi seem to think the S2 is compatible and recognises the USB audio output, but will not output through that channel, and that it just needs some developer to code something to force audio through that channel. Thread is now cold. I've got limited coding experience and it doesn't sound like the hardest job, which makes me think theres more too it. Waiting to head if someone else knows anything.
maybe I don't understand correctly what USB Audio really means, but the original Samsung car holder outputs analog audio when phone is plugged into USB slot.

I know very well the post on head-fi you mention as i'm a contributor.
The problem of the USB audio is a different problem from the car holder you mention.
What we basically want is an output of the DIGITAL audio from the usb, because we want to bypass the internal audio DAC, because it is really poor, and the output impedance of the galaxy s2 is terribly high.
If we can achieve the DIGITAL audio through usb we could convert and amp our sounds via an external DAC/AMP bypassing the internal DAC of the Galaxy s2, the Yamahaa, wich is really crap.
At the moment it is impossible for the galaxy s2 to achieve this because samsung blocks that.
The galaxy s3 is capable of this, and no one is coding something or is interested to achieve a result for our phone.
I also think that this post will go deep down the forum and goodbye.
Sad enough
Doesn't work & you hit the nail on the head; no developer will touch it. Many have been asked over the past 18 mths or so, a few have had a proper look & all have gone 'nope'. Too many proprietary Samsung blobs involved, you mess with one blob you break something else, etc, etc.
As the phone has been superceded by the S3 months ago now, the chances of finding a developer to get this done is pretty much zero. Don't bother offering money, that won't help. That one has been tried here as well; at one stage we had pledges totaling in the high 100's of $ & that did pique anyone's interest.
Better off getting an S3 if you want that kind of thing, and chances are you wouldn't need it with the S3 anyway because it has a Wolfson DAC & the sound is probably pretty reasonable. I haven't auditioned it myself as I have a good dedicated media player, which frankly is probably the WTG if you're really unhappy with the sound out of the SGS2.

Yes, there is support for USB Dock Audio, but how does it work? I bet the dock itself doesn't have any DAC or other audio processing modules so maybe it's just MHL supported? But in other way, sound through MHL will be digital, and the output in dock is analog jack.
Any ideas?
I know the Audio works in Car Dock, Problem is i am also currently looking into the software i had on previously. Some say its The Kernel , unfortunately i flashed my phone so many times i am not really sure of the Firmware / Kernel. Rest assured if i discover i will share.:good::cyclops:

i don't understand everything that was written in here.
i'm very badly wating for the usb audio support of the original Samsung Galaxy S2 Car Holder/Dock.
i can't imagine why it takes so long or is so complicated to implement this feature when it worked back in cm9 like a charm.
A sullution... (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029728) but is there a kernel compatible??
Hello everyone, I got an 11 pin mhl to HDMI converter and trying to mirror it to tv but it does not display anything on TV.
I got it from amazon cable masters brand
Just to be sure I also bought similar dongle but another brand. Same did not work with my phone. Not sure if anybody has issue with this.It does say hdmi connected but nothing displays on tv.
If anyone knows any product that worked for them can you please post or help me why it's not working. Thanks!
That's why I prefer to stick with oem products. The mhl 2.0 Samsung part does mirror. At least from the YouTube video I have seen. You could try rebooting the phone too. Custom roms might interfere with this too. Idk

Thanks for reply. I just bought Samsung 11pin mhl adapter from bestbuy. Still no luck. I can display S3 on tv but not S4. I am guessing something might be wrong with usb port of my phone?

I have the Samsung adapter mentioned above. It works flawlessly. A bit pricey, but worth it, IMO

I use the OEM mhl/hdmi and the 11 pin for the s4- works fine.
Make sure that the cable connects complete if you keep the s4 case on, otherwise take the case off
My cases are different thicknesses from the s3 to s4 and I have to have the case off for it to work well on my S4.
Also, try plugging it in to the phone AFTER you connect the power to the mhl and hdmi to the TV.
You might also consider rebooting before your plug try plugging it in to see if it makes a difference. The reason I say that is when I use the all share hub to show video via wi-fi, MX player sometimes has the audio and video not synced right, after I reboot, it is synced fine. I know that isn't your exact issue here, I'm just saying sometimes the reboot helps if you're like me and leave your phone on constantly without rebooting.
One other thought that was mentioned earlier - if you're on a custom rom, make sure it supports it.
And of course, you can just pick up an OEM (since you have the 11pin adapter) for around $10-15 on amazon and return it easy if it doesn't work on your S4 and if you're not on a custom ROM, you can point your finger at the S4 port:

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Adapter-Hdmi-3Fhu-Galaxy/dp/B0080CXSOU
Students get free prime (2day shipping) for a few months, and caregivers too..(aka amazon mom but includes a whole slew of folks also)
You could probably do this: http://itvirtualevent.com/juniperwlan/index.php and let it run in the background, get your amazon gift card and you're cable is mostly paid for (I just saw the link today, so I can't vouch for it, but it's an easy $10 giftcard if it is what is says)...
Howdy pals
Just wanna to ask, is there any legit way to spot the fake GS4?
Don't suggest to check the hardware, the clone is perfectly made now with 100% detail same with the original
Air gesture, smart video and other GS4 features now are cloneable. So any legit way to spot them?

any other way without using computer?
access to pc is limited here
thanks for replying
S4 is one of not so many mobile device on the market able to handle new HEVC (successor of MPEG4) video codec (it requires very efficient CPU and software stack).
try to find sample HEVC clip (preferably high bitrate) and put it on uSD card or USB pendrive with OTG adapter cable. clones will not be able to handle it correctly.

Try to register it on Samsung website (using the SN, IMEI or HEX)
You can also check IMEI alone. See this page:

yes, but i can't find this is a legit way
and this can't be done on other phone
I say 95% of clones may not have the S600 or Exynos 5 chip so you might wanna do a benchmark? And I also doubt they'll would put highly sensitive touchscreen for air view.

You can use CPU - Z or My DROID system info.
Legitimate way to check if a black market phone is genuine? You gotta be fu*ckin' kiddin' me, LMFAO.
From what I read a fair few didn't boot into download mode when you pressed volume down home key and power.
Not sure how relevant that info is anymore as this may have been fixed...
I am speaking from experience. I bought a clone thinking it was a genuine s4 and bought a spare battery from amazon, when the battery came it didnt fit in the clone phone, it was about 1mm too thick, but the cover will not attach to the phone. also the back cover is easy to peel off of a clone. I resold the clone and bought a real s4 from tmobile and the spare battery fits and the back cover is harder to take off. before i got the genuine s4 it was really hard for me to tell the difference i really thought i had a real one, but after using a genuine one i can spot a fake pretty quick, the oem battery is a easy dead give away that owrked for me. It may not work for anyone reading my post and if it doesnt then so be it, please dont flame, thanks

Hi all
I have the Samsung gear VR SM-323. The one that came with S7 and Note 7. It also have the USB type C adapter.
Do you think this headset will Work on the S9+
Thanks in advance.
From what i've read it should! That's the same one I have.
I read that it won't fit and you need the 325, but I guess there's no way to really know yet
If this article is correct then only the 324 or 325 will work, not the 323.

I have 324 and it didn't work with S9+.
I hope that March security update will fix that

It works
Hi Again
Finally I got the S9+. And I can confirm that the Samsung gear VR SM-323 works with the S9+ - if you got the USB type C adaptor.
BTKBTK, can I ask which USB C adapter you are using with your Vr2 and S9 plus ?
I know there are two versions of the USB C adapters. One was a 2016 for the smr-323, vr2 (usb c, GH98-4035), and the other came out in 2017 for the smr-324 vr3 model (also usb c, GH98-41582A).
Just clarifying, thanks for the help. I just got my S9 (not plus) last Thurs. So im trying to figure out which adapter would fit it best.
I will check back here, or email me at [email protected]
have the 324 and it works fine with the s9plus i have from t mobile. had to push the phone in pretty hard initially to get it to work, but it works great now. Now sure if the screen protector makes it more difficult to get in than the s8 i used to have - but that had the same type of tgsp.
Going to pick my z4 up from the vzw store today. Will test my usb c to hdmi hub adapter. Worked for my galaxy note. To bypass using dex so i could plug my phone mouse and keyboard to any hdmi tv. Got online for $11 worked great. Going to see if the z4 works for this and test out its otg capabilities today. Will let yall know
Also going to look into getting root. After i contact moto to see if we can get device on there bootloader unlock list
No go on the usb c to hdmi hub. Detects charging. But does not extend the display to the hdmi device. Tested on one of my tvs . Will test on my samsung smart but i doubt that makes a difference.
Regarding the bootloader unlock, are you saying it's possible that the VZ branded Z4 may be eligible through Moto's portal? I tried it and, as predicted, it failed. I just assumed all VZ phones are locked down.
I don't think any support MHL anymore as Miracast and Googlecast replaced it. Tried OTG and no worky. But, please prove me wrong.
Any luck on unlocking the bootloader? I've never had a Verizon phone but I came across this z4 practically brand new for a 100 bucks so I picked it up. If I knew that u couldn't unlock the bootloader I would have passed.
No dice on the bootloader. I emailed moto have heard nothing. No mhl no ucb c hub to hdmi . Its unfortunite i love this phone aside from that. Maybe if we bug the heck out of moto they will add it to there bootloader unlock. It worked for older vzw moto z devices. In other news I went to vzw paid $200 for the projector mod. A little disappointed. Not bright enough. At close distance maybe max of 40" its pretty decent. Only on a white surface with lights off.
detects charging, but doesn't actually charge
At least that's what the usb-c "charging bridge" I tried did. I am very disappointed, I can use the OTG keyboard and mouse through the usb-c adapter, the charge indicator came on... but no charge.. The battery ran down.
Is this what you found? I only tried one adapter.
I also discovered the moto Z4 is the only Android I've ever found a wired Xbox compatible controller to not work on OTG, the device shows up as a usb device but isn't recognized as a controller on this phone. ???

This may not be the place but I haven't seen a debloat thread specific to the z4. I ordered one today after the sammy a50 didn't support 1x or 3g. I've only owned a droid x, s3, and s5 cid15. All rooted and with custom roms. But I'm afraid no root or unlocked bootloader for the z4.
Even so, I know you can uninstall or disable apps for the current user on the device through adb. Have you guys done any debloating of the verizon crap thats installed on the z4 from vzw?
I'm sure it can be done with adb but I'm not sure how effective it is.. My understanding is that the user you uninstall the apps for will no longer load or run for that user.
One other question is can this device be themed with andromeda since it's fairly close to aosp from what I've read. If not can it be themed at all. Thanks all for your assistance.
