With Sony, if you unlock the bootloader it will wipe the DRM keys that allows many features to work, and the camera quality will go to hell due to the lack of those keys. Flashing stock back will do nothing to bring the quality back.
If I unlock the bootloader of the G6, flash a custom rom then flash stock back, will the camera quality be affected or will it be as good as the first boot?

On G6 you won't lose any DRM keys like on Sonys.
So this means flashing stock will bring full camera quality back?

This means that quality won't drop until you stay on a LG ROM, if you flash an AOSP or LOS Rom then the quality will drop, but obv flashing stock back will restore the quality.
Nice, I was worried that flashing anything other than stock would permanently damage the Camera. Knowing i can go back anytime is a relief and allows me to experiment a lot more.

Hi,
myself, being one happy Note 4 user, felt betrayed when Samsung locked the bootloader since COJ5 for Exynos variants, dunno about Qualcomm but I presume it's the same. Past this point we can't go back to whichever official (or custom for that matter) ROM, rendering our choices nonexistant. As far as I am concerned, we possess the phone thus we can do whatever we want, heck, I've paid a great sum of € for it! But samsung now says no-no. What gives? It isn't against the EULA afaik, and we have a crippled device now
Thoughts?
is the COK1 bootloader also locked ?

How is it crippled besides the ability to go back ?
You can root, flash kernels, flash deodex stock ROMs. and custom ROMs ? What else is there? I don't understand.
I've tried both the COL2 and COL1 recent releases on Sammobile and while I can't revert back to an earlier firmware it has affected nothing in customizing my phone.
Yeah it sucks not being able to go back. It could suck a lot more.
Hey, thanks for replying!

Yeah, maybe I've got a little bit reactionary there, but

Well, for one I can't go back to Kit Kat, which was a completely different beast altogether...

I can't install viper4android (which I could with custom roms under the same bootloader but got into many other problems like cut-out audio for phone calls and 92% stuck battery when charging)

It does, and as I said maybe I was a bit over the top, but I'm expecting someone to crack this useless feature. What's the point anyways?

I found this is a good base here for the N910C
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development/rom-note-4-mod-t3244665
Flash TWRP via ODIN. Root and custom kernel via TWRP, then make a backup.
I haven't messed with Viper in a while. Been trying the other audio mods.
I'll see what I can find. I've got a COL2 deodex ROM built. Messing with other tweaks.
I've messed with a v4a mod and finally got it working on stock COJ5 with root. Now everything's working fine and savvy. Thanks for the assistance though!
Interested to know if it also improved the camera, especially low light performance?
I didn't see anything specific in the changelog, but I think it seems better.

My camera used to drift when zoomed in... After the update, no more drift.
But, I don't see any noticeable difference in quality of the pics.
The update brings the option to auto show notifications on lockscreen. That's a big one for me.
Better battery life, got rid of the stupid notification bell, and lost my ability to root because I hadn't rooted before the upgrade. Hopefully Tenfar or someone will provide a solution soon, but it's not the end of the world.

Flash TWRP via tenfar's tool, flash modified fastboot, unlock bootloader, flash SuperSU.

Aside from the usual risks that come with rooting, does this method work reliably? I use my phone as a daily driver and I was worried that this approach would cause a conflict somewhere
Just wondering if there is a way to flash the stock v20 camera into a rom or if there is a rom that uses the stock v20 camera. im missing the dual camera and the slow motion capabilities!. thanks

What are you talking about....
All ROMs have the stock LG Camera app... Minus the AOSP ROMs, which will not have it, just the stock Google camera.

i guess that answers my question. i had no luck flashing anything other than AOKP. everything else just sat on the boot screen for an hour.

This means one of two things. You are not flashing supersu on top of the ROM (most ROMs should be flashing it for you-- like mine). Any time you introduce a boot.img, it must be accompanied by a supersu flash. The kernels get patched by the SuperSU updater to be insecure, and disable verity.
Or, you simply did not decrypt data as instructed to do so. Good luck.
Sounds like you never flashed one of my ROMs...

UPDATE:..... everything worked fine this time. not sure why. Thanks again for the help!
Hi guys. I know that the moment you install a custom rom you loose a bit in camera quality. Two questions.
1) Does camera quality go back to original when you flash a stock image?
2) Does camera quality drop if you unlock bl, root, but NOT install any custom recovery?
Thank you for your answers
1. Yes it does
2. Camera quality only drops when flashing a custom rom. Flashing a custom recovery, unlocking bootloader or rooting the device wont drop your camera's quality

Thank you. I thought it was different because with op3 if you flashed stock camera app you still wouldn't have good camera quality, would you?
Do you have any idea on how bad are cameras in custom roms as up to now? I'm not asking for specific answers.. just your general thoughts

Sorry i don't know since i take about 3 shot at year lol don't use too much camera and isn't my first concern when i flash a custom.. But from what i've read everybody wants the stock oos camera on any custom and this is because any other camera app don't use all the 2 camera of the device (i think is for this don't want to say anything wrong )
So I am on H91810q and I have kept root through the upgrades. Am I still able to flash another rom like LineageOS or am I stuck with stock since I upgraded so far?
Try it -- it isn't going to break your phone
Probably isn't going to run to well on new firmware though. Most of the heavy development was done on much older firmware, and those parts haven't been updated.

I'm thinking a TWRP Full Backup of the stock rom and wipe and flash LineageOS. In theory do you think I would be able to restore stock if something doesn't go right?
Yes. When you install LOS or a LOS based ROM the only thing that gets flashed is boot and system. Both of those are backed up by TWRP.

Well I just flashed LOS and I can see the screen flashing on and off but no boot. Any other suggestions? Am I stuck with the stock rom which I am gettings sick of...
Nope, you can't downgrade. Unless someone picks up development on current firmware, you can only use stock.
Not the answer I was looking for lol...

I know this isn't a custom rom but you're like me and on rooted Q, I use to not enjoy stock due to not being able to customize the phone how I liked but the instabilities in the camera and bluetooth and battery life made me appreciate the stock/stock based roms for the V20 and I actually PREFER a fully functional camera nd awesome audio recorder than inferior apps. But! Askermk2000's kernel is COMPATIBLE with rooted 10q, I am using it and it has honestly breathed new life into my phome for sure and since we don't have many rom options at the moment at least throw this kernel on your stock 10q rom and enjoy it! Here's the thread
