What are you talking about....
All ROMs have the stock LG Camera app... Minus the AOSP ROMs, which will not have it, just the stock Google camera.

i guess that answers my question. i had no luck flashing anything other than AOKP. everything else just sat on the boot screen for an hour.

This means one of two things. You are not flashing supersu on top of the ROM (most ROMs should be flashing it for you-- like mine). Any time you introduce a boot.img, it must be accompanied by a supersu flash. The kernels get patched by the SuperSU updater to be insecure, and disable verity.
Or, you simply did not decrypt data as instructed to do so. Good luck.
Sounds like you never flashed one of my ROMs...

Kernels For I337M?

Hey guys. So i've been beating my head against the wall here, trying to search ( yes as in using google and the xda search ) for a solution.
I keep trying to flash stock based samsung roms, they would flash, but when i try to open the camera, it opens but it freezes and then comes back saying camera failed. So I wait about 10 minutes, and the camera works...but only for about a minute, then it freezes and then never opens again.
I've tried flashing all of faux123 kernels, only one worked ( 006-MDX ) but the camera still has issues and I can't seem to find any other kernels compatible with the I337M.
Anyways, I've now tried flashing a I337M firmware based custom rom and it boots but now there it just wont boot up at all, just gets to the samsung logo and sits there, I've tried flashing other kernels but nothing will help. I'm going to have to Odin back to stock, but I'm wondering what Kernels are ok to use with the I337M so that this doesn't happen to me again in the future.
Any help and I'll have my thanks finger ready
EDIT: Ok, so after some poking around, it seems that T-Mobile kernels work well with the I337M. Can anyone confirm this for me before I bork my device again? (currently doing an odin back to stock and re-rooting... =(
It is not wise to use other carriers kernels. Not a good idea. The att i337m kernels are just as good as the others. How would you benefit from it?
Btw the answer to your problem is you have the wrong kernel. Get into recovery and flash the kernel for your device.

9505 kernels work. Flash Adam kernel directly after flashing the ROM. If you still have problems with the camera, flash ROM, go into camera and let it update firmware, immediately flash Adam kernel then reboot.

Ya, I've done the whole adam kernel in the past, updated the camera firmware, everything was fine, but this time around, the firmware didn't need updating, at least i don't think so, considering the camera app launches, but sits at a black screen and then gives me a message that camera failed. it never tries to update the firmware like it did in the past. thanks though =)

Yeah us SGH-I337M users can use other device ROM's and Kenels. (Doubt not the 9500 because of hardware differences)
We pay for our unlocked bootloader in outrageous plans from our mobile providers though!

I can imagine, I still have a g3 that is in working order with a sim, and it is cool to see the loader unlocked. although on the g4, as long as I can flash a rom, I do not care how it works. I am a happy camper right now.
Thanks for clearing up the kernel question I had, can use that info when helping others. Thanks.

I guess with LOKI you are still set, the biggest drawback with the locked bootloader is probably slower device reboots, as you see the custom screen?

[H918] Random Reboots on Custom Roms

So, I had a day 1 v20 that began randomly rebooting back in december. Thought it was a hardware issue and finally got around to replacing it the other day. Now, after getting the replacement v20 set up on a custom rom (AICP) I'm seeing random reboots again. I've tried every single custom rom available for the h918 and they all experience reboots. When i've asked about the issue in the threads it seems as if I'm the only one. It appears to be a custom-rom only problem that apparently no one else is experiencing? The kernel panics are being caused by the modem, and it started happening when I upgraded to the 10j base. This replacement also came with 10j. Am I just super unlucky with two duds or is there really something going on here?
TLDR; Anyone else with a h918 with 10j bootloader/modem running custom roms and seeing random reboots?
What kernel do you use? If you use Konverged, it seems to give random reboots after a while of use. I noticed that right away though.

Have always left kernel stock.
Are you making sure that you are wiping data when flashing a rom? Clean install should help. What other things do you use? When does it crash? Maybe a root app is causing this???

This is a fresh replacement device with a clean rom install. There was no data to wipe. Happens even without any apps installed and it's completely random and cannot be reproduced. The only thing I know is the modem is causing the kernel panics.

The entire point here is that I don't want to run stock or anything based on stock. I would simply chalk it up to the Lineage base but since I'm one of a serious minority having this problem I'm led to believe it's something simpler that can be fixed. Possibly related to 10j as most custom ROM users are still running 10d firmware

Anything not based on stock will give you issues. One reason why I like stock based roms is because the second screen will actually work... I would atleast test a stock based rom to see how it goes. If it works and doesnt crash, Then something is wrong with the rom or your could be flashing it wrong :/ Idk, just an idea to test. Non stock roms will Always give you issues. Always
If you still have issues on a stock based rom, then I would downgrade with the kdz and try again. Its probably crashing since the modem is 10j and the rom isnt really fit for that.

I never used the second screen, it's more of a nuisance for me. Everything it did can be replaced by gestures and lockscreen settings on custom. Only thing I miss is notifications but that's why we have ambient display.
I might try downgrading to the 10i firmware to see what happens. Unfortunately there are no 10d flashables. Otherwise this ROM is flawless.

Not to shoot down your opinion, but why would you get it if the Second screen is a nuisance to you?? Im also pretty sure camera is screwed on custom roms.... I just dont have that appeal. Its better safe than sorry to check and see if a stock rom works fine than to downgrade and it still doesnt work :/ Idk thats my 2 cents

It was between this and the axon 7. I didn't want a fullHD screen so that eliminated a lot of the other options.

Not a Samsung fan. Especially with KNOX. I buy phones first based on the chances of development producing workable custom ROMs and second based on hardware features.
Back to the main topic: I just managed to flash the 10i modem alone so we'll see what happens. I'm working on extracting the 10d modem as well.

UPDATE: Flashing the 10i modem made no difference, still having random reboots (although they seem less frequent), I will try the 10d modem once I find a way to extract it from the TOT files posted on this forum.

Quick Question

So I am on H91810q and I have kept root through the upgrades. Am I still able to flash another rom like LineageOS or am I stuck with stock since I upgraded so far?
Try it -- it isn't going to break your phone
Probably isn't going to run to well on new firmware though. Most of the heavy development was done on much older firmware, and those parts haven't been updated.

I'm thinking a TWRP Full Backup of the stock rom and wipe and flash LineageOS. In theory do you think I would be able to restore stock if something doesn't go right?
Yes. When you install LOS or a LOS based ROM the only thing that gets flashed is boot and system. Both of those are backed up by TWRP.

Nope, you can't downgrade. Unless someone picks up development on current firmware, you can only use stock.

I know this isn't a custom rom but you're like me and on rooted Q, I use to not enjoy stock due to not being able to customize the phone how I liked but the instabilities in the camera and bluetooth and battery life made me appreciate the stock/stock based roms for the V20 and I actually PREFER a fully functional camera nd awesome audio recorder than inferior apps. But! Askermk2000's kernel is COMPATIBLE with rooted 10q, I am using it and it has honestly breathed new life into my phome for sure and since we don't have many rom options at the moment at least throw this kernel on your stock 10q rom and enjoy it! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out.

[GUIDE][addison] SETUP Moto z play XT1635-02 : from stock 6.0 to custom ROM.

I have the habit of always asking on a new device no matter how much I think I know!
I have an xt1635-02 (I am US ATT Prepaid)(nano SIM) supposedly here tomorrow so I've been reading tons here.
However, it seems that a lot of the threads are aimed at rooting stock, which I never do.
As a rule, it's trivial:
[!] In this case it seems best to OTA update stock to 7.1.1 if it isn't already. I believe bootloader must be 7.x.x for doing custom Oreo ROMs . Since mine was 6.0 it took about 8 updates OTA and maybe 2 hours(wifi) .
[!]I go to moto site and do the unlock bootloader dance (already carrier unlocked supposedly).
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
[!]Then flash twrp-3.2.1-0-addison.img (Alberto97) using fastboot on my PC. (Ubuntu 17.10 dev 18.04 with adb and fastboot)(dual boot win7)
I do this twice in a row as I have experienced it not working the first time (dead android LOL).(OCD much??? )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-unofficial-twrp-moto-z-play-t3495629
- - -
[!] -->then flash Alberto's verity patch mentioned at the top of his TWRP thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-unofficial-twrp-moto-z-play-t3495629
This modifies stock. Else your backups of stock won't boot. Learned this the hard way!
- - -
[!]Then use TWRP to backup (default settings) stock a couple of times and put copies of both on PC (via USB on stock).(or if for some reason my USB-C doesn't work, via wifi to my router using filezilla FTP and phone app: "wifi file transfer" by "DNL Media UG"(needs permission storage=on..) - I had to redo this twice - redo this twice - kept dropping back to stock recovery.
[!]Then flash the boot logo using fastboot on PC - I usually use TWRP for this but these that I found here are not set up to be TWRP flash compat so will just remove bin from zip and flash using PC. I think I have about 4 possibilities that I found on these threads. Nice! Easy.
[!]Then boot to TWRP and flash Alberto97's AOSP 8.1 arm64 ROM. Why that ROM you may ask. Been using mainly that Alberto97 ROM on my Moto G3 (32bit version of course), and love it. There's plenty of time to try all the others!!!
I usually consider 2 root options; SuperSU 2.82-SR5, or majisk 1520. (for future readers, these are the latest at this time.)(besides I'm very used to them.)
With SuperSU I have had no probs wiping all 4(Dalvik/ART, system, data, cache), flash ROM, flash 8.1 gapps, flash SUperSU, and boot to install.
With majisk I have sometimes had troubles during install if I flash majisk in the first batch so I tend to wipe all 4, flash ROM and gapps, and boot to install. Then when I finally hit desktop, boot back to TWRP and flash 1520 and reboot.
I need root to use TBPro - no restoring on first time with this 64bit ROM- got to do it the hard way!
SO I believe that's it, but if anyone sees a flaw or problem in there, I would appreciate your help.
Thanks!!!
yep look right, i would have added backup EFS and Modem partitions, if you want to be completely safe.
For now, open gapps 8.1 are only unofficial, i would feel a bit unsecure to use that, but it's only me.

Merci! Many thanks for looking in!!!
Yes, forgot to add that - did much xda search on the efs thing and best I found seemed to be a twrp-3.1.1-0-EFS-addison.img which I may very well flash first and do that since no other TWRP that I looked at offers backup efs. Official and squid2 derived (G3) don't. I assume Alberto's doesn't. Seems like I did it very manually on the G3. If you have it it's a pretty good guarantee that you'll never need it! (Murphy axiom)
As to unofficial gapps, I've been testing about 5 different 8.1 ROMs on the Moto G3 over the past couple months and if the gapps aren't built in to the ROM(some pixelexperience roms), all you can get is an unofficial gapps, or do a minor simple hack to an 8.0 so it will accept it. Usually devs will include it. Bless Alberto97 for not including it so I can select my own!!! But I've had no prob with gapps. Open gapps project has 8.0, but of course they won't work on a true 8.1 unless minor hack. I was planning on using open_gapps-arm64-8.1-aroma-20180109-UNOFFICIAL.zip (from https://cloud.kenzoroms.club/?dir=opengapps) unless you have a better idea. I wanted to grab camera from aroma(somebody's idea), but I also have about 5 other cameras and gcams waiting on the Sdcard that I want to test, simply because there seemed to be disagreement on what works on Alberto's new 8.1 build, so wanted to be able to report.
Thanks again!

Thanks for great link! yeah I think I used adb as well as an app last time. I'll add recovery this time so that's 3 backups on internal storage (and copied to PC) should be enough! (yes dear readers I am serious about this - 3 times! They are so tiny! And that pretty much guarantees I'll never need it, but if I do, it's childs play to get it back.)
Thanks!!!
If you're wondering about the delay, they sent me a -01 (Droid)(Murphy's law), so they paid for a UPS next day air label back to them(mailed at 4PM) - don't know if I'll get this going before Sat! Oh well!!! Never take these things too seriously!!! Gotta be costing them a chunk! I did briefly turn it on and stuck the SIM in it and it did show LTE on my ATT, but there's a few bands missing that are on the -02, so will wait. Pretty display, though!!! Really looking forward to it!!!

yes. stock 8.x is a no-no. This one that is coming is 6.0.1 So I will let it ota update to 7.1.1 after giving it a thorough check-out, then try unlocking it, etc. Sound right? I have no interest in any of the hardware-type addons, just the plain phone 3/32 octacore etc. Why this one? - I love the reception (radio) strength of Motos, plus a ton of other things. I stick with them. Plus it's all Albeto97's fault for deving on AOSP 8.1
Lol Alberto97's roms are buttery smooth!

I think they are. He recently came out with an 8.1 AOSP version for the Moto G3 and I love it. I test others, but that's my daily driver. Sure not perfect, but quite good enough for me!!! So I figure when I get it (Tues?) that's what I'll put on it. There's always plenty of time to test others!
Okay, since I am waiting for phone (Tues) , obviously I am worried about "what-if"s and so researching on what to do, "if".
I succeeded in finding a nice zip for 7.1.1 with the Nov security patch
https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto Z Play/Stock/
(I am US)(there are many others at that nice site!!!)
That took a lot of time.
Then I needed to be sure that I could get RSD lite to run, and tried and tried to no avail to get it to recognize my phone (even on my laptop) (I was testing with an old Moto G3 stock zip and my G3 phone) before some post gave me a version number much higher than at the RSD site. google gave me:
http://rsdlite.en.lo4d.com/
version 6.2.4, which worked perfectly.
I really need to write a short guide on this stuff - feels like I'm re-inventing the wheel, even though many folks have written much before I came along!
The reason for the above two is that for a while the last few days I kept running into folks who had taken 7 OTA and wound up with a bricked phone. So, yes, I just did a search for "brick" on xda in moto z play and will start reading them! LOL
Quick EDIT: I think I am wrong in that brick assumption - the first 3 I looked at involved encryption and 2 downgrades to MM (which is a no-no). I will read further.
edit2 - nevermind - most are downgrading to MM. Wish folks would just ask before doing that. That is a no-no of most (all?) phones. -

I have no problem with various cameras getting good image, but sometimes on still first pic doesn't save. ( tried camera MX and Professional camera hd. I'm sure lots work about the same.)
Forgot to flash Alberto's verity patch right after flashing TWRP. So I had to RSD lite 7.1.1 Nov 1 and start over - no big deal! OP corrected.
Hello Kris,
I would like to ask for a link where I can download a working RSD so I can unlocked my bootloader.
Thanks

Wifi on Custom OREO ROMs & Kernels

On Custom Oreo ROMs/kernels such Renovate ICE O, Batman ROM, Nox Kernel, notorious kernel , Wifi does not work on my S8 G950F. The only way to make these work up to now, was to restore the boot image from stock rom.
Whilst restoring stock boot.img does resolve the issue, it creates another in that after reboot wifi takes about 2 mins to turn on.
This Solution Worked for me, but doesn't always work for everyone, try it:

the stock boot is one you would take from twrp, or if you don't have that can install soldier rom, skip all the install options, then just backup boot in twrp
I have very kindly been given a temp fix by @Noxxxious who makes the truly excellent Nox kernel. Will update as this develops & hopefully share a perm fix for everyone
Same
I have the same Problem with my s8 in every custom Rom since oreo i cant Turn in my wifi..

Post 174. This worked for me now I have wifi on all custom roms
Thought I’d chile in here as well so people learn this problem is for real, and that I know how to flash custom roms....
I am always doing the boot.img trick that @StackOverflow13 taught me a white a go.

I take it the 2 files trick didn't work for you? So are you facing the issue of really slow WiFi start-up after reboot? Glad your here anyway. The more people we get the more chance a dev or devs will take notice
Still dealing with this in 2020. I'm using a Japanese S8+ with stock Oreo firmware and a custom kernel, the second I flash Magisk and my boot image gets replaced, WiFi breaks. I checked the file directory mentioned in post 174 and I see both files are present on my phone, unless the files @noxxious posted are modified in some way.
