i decided to find out what the hullabaloo about Beautiful Widgets was and bought it... and then tried their fanciful widgets and weather and stuff. Not sure if I get the deal, (I look at the sky to find out the weather and I dont need more reminders of what time it is) but anyway -- last night I got into some settings in BW and then remember something about "reboot to disable home button" or whatever and I forgot I was not rooted, so I went ahead with it. (Had i been rooted I would have done a data wipe and restore and not needed to make another XDA thread)
But now I cannot use my home button. It goes nowhere. It vibrates but thats it. Doesnt go "Home" and long press doesnt give me my last 6 apps.
I uninstalled BW (both the apk and whatever the widgets were) so now I have no more BW on the phone, and it somehow even reset my system settings so I had to set that all up over again!!!!
I had Launcherpro apk and Zeam and have uninstalled both of those and now I only have ADW launcher. I set the ADW settings to enable the home button to go to "default screen" but now it doesnt do anything.
I havent been able to use home button normally since that Beautiful Widget setting thing last night.
My next step is to go into fastboot and do a data-wipe (the stock settings for data reset doesnt really come close to what a fastboot data wipe does, I think) but then Ill have to deal with restoring a non-rooted phone and not looking forward to that without my beloved Titanium Backup.
So anyone know Beautiful Widgets inside out who can let me know how to get my home button back to normal. Otherwise its a hardware issue and I doubt it because ive been treating this phone like its the queen of england, delicate and carefully.
Im positive this was caused by a Beautiful Widget setting change...
solved
I tried everything possible.... and got so pissed about the home button not working that I did a factory reset off the SPL. That fixed it -- my home button now works.
So something in the Beautiful Widgets settings caused something to become embedded and it made my home button useless. Im 99.9% sure of that -- .01% would go towards "hardware malfunction".
careful in those BW settings. nice widgets, but horrible batt-drain. Too Sense-i for me.
Did you try resetting the default app settings for Beautiful Widgets or the built-in launcher? Menu -> Applications -> Beautiful Widgets -> Reset Defaults.

I just updated my Verizon Samsung Note 3 to the 4.4.2 version of Android OS via OTA. I couldn't figure out how to get the Camera app to display on my lock screen, so I went to my "Lock Screen" settings and found something wrong. I had the Swipe Pattern as the unlock type at the time, and my only options where to change to "PIN" or "Password". I changed it to PIN, hoping that I could change back, but no luck, I am now only able to choose "PIN" or Password" for my lock screen options while the rest are greyed out and it still does not show an option to enable the camera app shortcut on my lock screen.
What I tried to do so far:
Cleared all cache on device
Disabled "Lookout" for being a device manager
Cleared certificate for "FoxFi" app
Rebooted several times (I read somewhere that doing a factory reset did not work either)
I'm hoping this is not a permanent bug in the 4.4.2 OTA update from Verizon. Does anyone have a solution?

Someone had suggested going to the security tab and clearing the certificates cache or something like that ... I am at work so don't have my phone in front of me , but that enabled them to change a bug wth the foxfi app. So maybe that will help you change the lockscreen security settings.

I went ahead and cleared all of the trusted certificates by going to "Settings > Security > Clear credentials" and IT WORKED! I can now select any of the unlock types and the camera app shortcut is now functional. Thanks for the help.

your welcome ! Glad it worked and got you up and running :good:
Clear credentials is grayed out for my phone. Any solution to that?
as a side not for those of you with root still you can make any of your widgets full size upon waking the phone on the lock screen which is pretty cool. you use a module for Xposed called Maximize Widgets

It looks like you have most likely encrypted your SD card, which forces you to have security installed. Go into settings>storage and uncheck phone storage encryption and sd card encryption and see if that resolves your issue.
guys i have the same problem,i can't find a solution i have cleared the credentials cache and no solution

mine credentials are also grayed out on Galaxy S3 LTE 4.4.4. and i dont have a password active and i also added a password to sdcard and i decrypt it after and changed back to swipe. i also disabled all device administrators as well. my phone was optus until i unlocked the network. Dont Worry i fixed it, but i think people should try this any. what was happening was my Galaxy s3 was in Easy Mode for somereason what that does is disables Lockscreen options like widgets and Multi-window, so if the credentials dont work, see if you have Easy Mode on, because after 2 weeks of frustration, disabling Easy Mode fixed it for me.
On Android 4.3 since I got the device.
I setup my lock screen widgets some time ago no problem.
Today I just went to add another widget and found that the add button didn't appear. I ended up deleting my other lock screen widgets and now I can't add anything. The clock widget animates when you swipe it but doesn't move to a + button as it should.
Just to get this out the way, I have the proper settings in place:
eg.
Swipe to unlock.
Settings > Device > Lock screen > multiple widgets - enabled.
I am completely baffled by this and have tried to google an answer as to why this may have stopped working but no searches seem to have any similar problems announced. So in desparation I'm hoping someone here might know why this has stopped working?
Any help, suggestions would be welcome, I'm at my wits end.
Super odd problem here. So I had originally turned off animations (running latest nightly of Lineage 14) and I turned them back on just to see what they were like and the soft rebooted. Upon rebooting a bunch of stuff, settings, functionality disappeared. My recents button does not pull up recents at all, no notifications. When I went into the settings and searched "button", nothing appeared. Finally, I went to development settings and could not access any of these settings I had before. It appears I entered some odd user state or something, but I don't know how changing animations could trigger that.
Any thoughts?
Okay so I realized it's a problem with the current user being a non administrator. I don't know how this switched over but I've read it can be fixed by running SetUp Wizard, however I can't find an activity to do this.
I have found the similar problem on my HTC desire (7), hope you solve this problem soon.
I wanted to share this with everyone in hopes that my solutions helps at least one person.
I have an LG G6 running Android 8.0. A few apps I use require Draw over other apps to be turned on. One of those apps is Keeper Security, which needs permission to Draw over other apps so that its Keeper Fill feature can read the screen and go find my username/password for that website/app I am trying to login to. Since around December 2018 it has started acting 'flaky'. Even though I had enabled Draw over other apps for the app already, it kept notifying me that I needed to turn it on. After some random setting changes of turning the draw over apps setting ON/OFF, along with the Keeper Fill setting from within the source app that needs this permission, I could eventually get it to work again, but it would always break again very soon after.
As I am getting ready to go on a trip, I installed Google's Datally app. It, too, wants me to turn on Draw over other apps, but when I tap "next" to be taken to the Android settings page to enable Draw over other apps, nothing happens (I usually expect an app detects it has been enabled and gives "success" message).
So I started disabling the 3 possible suspects listed by kapil1100 in this post. I had LG's Comfort View and some Accessibility options enabled, so I turned them off and: no change.
I disabled all other apps that have permission to Draw over other apps via: Settings > Apps & notifications > Special access > Draw over other apps, and: no change.
I use Evie launcher, so I went back to the stock one: no change.
I got thinking about what else could be modifying/accessing the screen and realized that LG has custom Home touch buttons.
I went to: Settings > Display > Home touch buttons > Hide Home touch buttons and DISABLED Show lock/hide icon and then tried enabling Draw over other apps for Datally and IT WORKED!.
I was then able to turn Show lock/hide icon back ON and everything has been working as expected. I suspect that, because I had Show lock/hide icon turned on during an upgrade, something got messed up and my turning it OFF and back ON fixed the issue.
I hope this helps someone!
