Hello. I was planning on buying this phone unlocked (from best buy, or amazon) and going onto Sprint for a small time period for a promotion. I want to be sure that I had a decent connection at work, so I want to make sure that wifi calling and wifi texting works on the Sprint network.
Is there anyone that is or has used an unlocked (non-Sprint) moto G5 plus and can verify if their wifi calling and texting works fine on their moto g5 plus?
Thanks for the help!!

How can I keep wifi calling enabled on moto g4 plus? Have downloaded activity app, made a shortcut for wifi calling and enabled it, but as soon as a phone call is ended, the app reverts back to the wifi calling OFF position. How can I keep it ON?
What provider you have? From what I know, in US, only T-Mobile and their prepaid MetroPCS have native WiFi calling.

I have the same question:
Phone: Moto G4 Plus XT1641 Dual SIM 2GB/32GB
OS: Android 7.0 (patch level September 2017)
IMEI: 355672081638493
Provider: MINTSIM (T-Mobile MVNO)
MINTSIM sells itself on WIFI talk and text service
Since I am not using that app, I just can suggest to keep the WiFi on and also go into the power settings to exclude the WiFi calling app from being 'optimized'.
I just switched from ATT to Tmobile. Currently I have the OnePlus 5 but I am looking for a phone for my wife. I bought her the Samsung S8 as a surprised for her but she does not like the shape of it. It is too skiny compared to her Note 5. The Note 8 would be the perfect phone for her but I am not spending $1,000 on a phone for her to go on facebook and read the new. I am looking at the LG G6, the unlock US997 model from bhphoto. Right now the have it for $450 unlocked. Since witched from ATT, Tmobile has been great except my house which has very poor reception. I know the tmobile version of the G6 supports wifi calling but does the unlock US997 support it? I tried to research it but I didn't get an answer. The closest was, the Unlock version is the same with some restricted service.
So does anyone have the LG G6 US997 on the tmobile network and does it support wifi calling?
Recently reordered the G6 from BandH for $450 and I'm happy to inform you that both VoLTE and VoWifi do work on T-Mobile. I'm receiving my unit on Friday so I'll check on Visual Voicemail but I do recall having VoLTE and VoWifi working out of the box.

US997 absolutely does NOT have Wi-Fi calling - Volte yes, but I guess (if you ever received phone) you have by now figured out that point. Lucky you, B&H will take it back with first 4 weeks...
I did have wifi calling enabled as well as VoLTE on my unlocked G6. I'm not sure why you don't have that option but I did.
Wifi Texting?
I have the US997 unlocked model (not us cellular) on T-Mobile. Wifi Calling works no problem.
However, using the LG messages app, it won't let me text unless I have service. Anyone else run have that issue?
I installed Google Messages, which does let me text via Wifi. I'd rather stick with LG messages as it has a dark theme, which I like better.
I have the same phone using on T-Mobile but I don't have WiFi calling

I got mine from B&H. It may be because yours is "Sprint", the software (ROM) is slightly different. I don't have any idea what you would have to do to get wifi calling working. At this point you can't unlock the bootloader to flash a different rom, so your only option would be checking with T-Mobile to see if it is provisioned properly.
On a side note, I may have to try a different SMS app, as Google Messages way over compresses picture messages to they point they are garbage.
A couple of quick tests (using hangouts / google voice number), Signal will receive sms via wifi, but will not send. Textra will both receive and send via wifi. Picture quality for MMS is fine using either Signal or Textra.
I have an unlocked Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935U). My carrier is Total Wireless (Verizon MVNO). I recently got a new office at work, and the Verizon coverage in this part of the building is terrible. I use wifi for data but cellular calling basically doesn't work at all.
I've been looking at other networks, and I'm leaning toward T-Mobile or MetroPCS, one of the reasons being they have wifi calling and the wifi at my office is plenty fast. I checked in settings to see the wifi calling option, but when I go to settings > connections > more connection settings, which is where the wifi calling setting is supposed to be, there's nothing about wifi calling.
I had a thought that maybe the wifi calling option isn't there because my current carrier doesn't support wifi calling, so I contacted Samsung support. I asked if I get a SIM from a carrier that supports wifi calling, would the wifi calling option be enabled. They said that unlocked phones don't support wifi calling at all.
This confuses me, because this thread mentions some people were able to use T-Mobile wifi calling on an unlocked S7/S7Edge. But that thread is older, so maybe for some reason wifi calling was removed from the unlocked S7 Edge with the Nougat update?
I suppose the only way to find out for sure is to get a T-Mobile or MetroPCS SIM and see what happens. But is anyone able to shed some light on if this is even worth trying? I suppose it's also worth trying out just to see if regular cellular calling on T-Mobile might be fine at my new desk, but hopefully there's some way to do wifi calling.
Unfortunately I think you need the sm-g935f to get t mobile wifi calling. Don't think it was ever achieved on the U models
I had an s7 edge from T-Mobile (SM-G935T) but I flashed the unlocked firmware essentially making it a SM-G935U and I had VoLTE and Wifi calling working with no issues. It was about a month ago, so it was on Nougat. I would expect no issues with an actual SM-G935U on T-Mobile.
Well, I answered my own question. I switched over to the T-Mobile 10 GB $50/month prepaid plan and when I changed SIMs the phone gave me a "reconfiguring your device for new SIM card" message. Wifi calling is now active.
Also, this is a list of phones that support T-Mobile wifi calling. I probably should've checked here first.

So I just bought and retrieved from the mail a (locked to tracfone/straight talk) Samsung s8 for a steal off eBay for $400. I currently use a Verizon sim on my unlocked verizon galaxy s6 and plan to continue using Verizon's network but I want ed to know if it's possible to flash the phone to a Verizon stock? Do I have to unlock the phone and is it possible?
It's not a huge deal breaker if I cant. But I wanted to do it as an experiment because for some reason, my verizon Samsung s6 on nougat can bypass the hotspot subscription screen and initiate right away. I wanted to flash my s8 because tracfones don't usually have the mobile hotspot feature and if I can flash it, id like to see if the same trick applies. I use the hotspot feature to save me when I need to use my laptop away from home or play my switch online in a no Wi-Fi zone.
But like I said i can live without it, I just really wanted the phone.
I've got the opporunity to snag a nice, unlocked H872. But I'm on ATT - anybody know if that variant will be able to do WiFi calling on ATT (knowing it's originally the Tmobile version)??
Cheers!
Here is the thing, ATT only allows its phone to have wifi calling. So if the IMEI isn't ATT, it won't get wifi calling. You need LG H871. Also lately ATT is being an ass and turning off wifi calling on mvno's/prepaid accounts.
